of_o mercy_n and_o salvation_n answ_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a it_o may_v indeed_o so_o happen_v that_o those_o saint_n who_o joy_n and_o comfort_n be_v at_o one_o time_n fresh_a and_o verdant_a at_o another_o time_n wither_v and_o drop_v off_o so_o that_o they_o look_v upon_o themselves_o as_o rot_a tree_n destinate_a to_o make_v fuel_n for_o hell_n whence_o proceed_v this_o it_o be_v not_o from_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n but_o as_o carnal_a man_n be_v apt_a to_o mistake_v the_o first_o work_n of_o conviction_n for_o melancholy_a or_o for_o temptation_n so_o this_o their_o salvation_n though_o they_o speak_v these_o thing_n yet_o they_o believe_v not_o a_o word_n of_o what_o they_o say_v and_o therefore_o they_o be_v inexcusable_a if_o they_o strive_v not_o to_o put_v forth_o that_o power_n that_o they_o suppose_v they_o have_v into_o act._n although_o a_o man_n foot_n be_v chain_v and_o fetter_a that_o he_o can_v walk_v nor_o stir_v yet_o if_o he_o think_v himself_o at_o liberty_n and_o yet_o will_v sit_v still_o judge_v you_o whether_o the_o fault_n be_v not_o whole_o to_o be_v impute_v to_o his_o want_n of_o will_n and_o not_o to_o his_o want_n of_o happiness_n and_o salvation_n as_o renounce_v their_o own_o work_n now_o whence_o be_v it_o that_o man_n be_v so_o difficult_o bring_v unto_o the_o renounce_n their_o own_o work_n why_o it_o be_v because_o by_o they_o they_o hope_v to_o obtain_v salvation_n and_o can_v there_o be_v such_o a_o principle_n in_o man_n and_o yet_o at_o the_o same_o time_n believe_v and_o think_v that_o they_o can_v work_v out_o their_o own_o salvation_n it_o be_v very_o evident_a therefore_o whatever_o notion_n man_n may_v take_v up_o to_o stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o a_o clamorous_a conscience_n when_o it_o call_v they_o to_o work_v and_o labour_v yet_o they_o do_v not_o themselves_o believe_v what_o they_o say_v concern_v their_o impotency_n but_o do_v real_o think_v they_o have_v a_o power_n to_o work_v out_o their_o own_o salvation_n four_o do_v you_o never_o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v be_v deal_v with_o your_o heart_n and_o conscience_n when_o it_o have_v be_v persuade_v you_o to_o enter_v upon_o a_o course_n of_o obedience_n do_v you_o never_o procrastinate_v and_o use_v delay_n do_v you_o never_o stifle_v the_o breathe_n and_o resist_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o holy_a savour_n now_o christ_n perform_v his_o mediatory_a office_n no_o where_o but_o in_o heaven_n for_o though_o as_o god_n he_o be_v everywhere_o present_n as_o the_o father_n be_v and_o therefore_o hear_v your_o prayer_n wheresoever_o they_o be_v put_v up_o yet_o as_o mediator_n they_o be_v only_o hear_v in_o heaven_n by_o he_o and_o he_o hear_v no_o prayer_n but_o the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n as_o he_o be_v mediator_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o comfort_n to_o you_o that_o christ_n hear_v your_o prayer_n as_o he_o be_v god_n only_o for_o so_o he_o do_v and_o can_v but_o do_v it_o unless_o he_o hear_v your_o prayer_n likewise_o as_o he_o be_v mediator_n now_o christ_n as_o he_o be_v mediator_n he_o be_v god-man_n for_o as_o he_o wrought_v out_o our_o salvation_n in_o both_o nature_n so_o he_o still_o continue_v to_o mediate_v for_o we_o in_o both_o nature_n and_o since_o the_o human_a nature_n be_v only_o in_o heaven_n therefore_o it_o follow_v he_o perform_v the_o mediatory_a office_n only_o in_o heaven_n now_o it_o be_v the_o mediatorship_n of_o christ_n alone_o that_o make_v all_o our_o prayer_n and_o duty_n acceptable_a to_o god_n himself_o therefore_o it_o concern_v we_o still_o to_o pray_v lord_n hear_v we_o in_o heaven_n it_o be_v in_o vain_a that_o thou_o hear_v i_o on_o earth_n unless_o thou_o hear_v in_o heaven_n too_o my_o prayer_n can_v be_v hear_v acceptable_o unless_o thou_o hear_v they_o twice_o thou_o hear_v my_o prayer_n on_o earth_n not_o a_o word_n of_o my_o tongue_n but_o thou_o hear_v but_o what_o will_v it_o avail_v thy_o servant_n unless_o thou_o hear_v my_o prayer_n a_o second_o time_n repeat_v over_o to_o thou_o in_o the_o intercession_n and_o mediation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o heaven_n and_o therefore_o say_v solomon_n 1_o king_n 8.34_o hear_v thou_o in_o heaven_n and_o forgive_v when_o god_n shall_v only_o hear_v on_o earth_n he_o will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o forgive_a that_o he_o will_v be_v avenge_v but_o when_o he_o hear_v our_o prayer_n in_o heaven_n through_o the_o mediation_n of_o christ_n than_o he_o be_v incline_v to_o forgive_v and_o pardon_v we_o hence_o we_o find_v that_o the_o jew_n pray_v towards_o the_o temple_n which_o be_v a_o type_n of_o heaven_n and_o the_o altar_n and_o incense_n and_o mercy-seat_n in_o this_o temple_n be_v type_n of_o christ_n who_o be_v now_o
