love-essence_n they_o be_v all_o citizen_n of_o the_o same_o city_n all_o subject_n and_o obedient_a servant_n of_o the_o same_o sovereign_n majesty_n they_o be_v all_o equal_a in_o the_o divine_a perfection_n and_o heavenly_a gift_n and_o grace_n they_o be_v all_o of_o they_o most_o lovely_a holy_a pure_a and_o righteous_a they_o be_v equal_o meek_a humble_a obedient_a resign_v etc._n etc._n so_o that_o they_o may_v very_o well_o be_v say_v to_o be_v coequal_a with_o one_o another_o 7._o in_o the_o seven_o place_n these_o spirit_n be_v all_o fix_a spirit_n that_o be_v they_o be_v unchangeable_a and_o unalterable_a and_o by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n fill_v they_o throughout_o become_v fix_v and_o unmoveable_a pillar_n in_o the_o most_o holy_a place_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o their_o unchangeable_a fixation_n be_v that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v the_o life_n of_o their_o life_n the_o spirit_n of_o their_o spirit_n and_o the_o move_a power_n in_o all_o their_o motion_n they_o desire_v not_o think_v not_o will_v not_o speak_v not_o move_v not_o but_o the_o holy_a spirit_n desire_n be_v will_n speak_v and_o move_v in_o and_o through_o they_o not_o that_o they_o want_v these_o faculty_n and_o power_n but_o because_o the_o holy_a ghost_n alone_o be_v the_o act_n and_o move_a power_n in_o and_o through_o all_o their_o faculty_n themselves_o be_v pure_o and_o mere_o passive_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o any_o of_o these_o spirit_n shall_v fall_v because_o they_o stand_v all_o fix_v in_o and_o by_o the_o unchangeable_a power_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n own_v no_o will_n but_o that_o of_o the_o bless_a trinity_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n for_o sin_n or_o self_n to_o enter_v in_o and_o take_v possession_n of_o these_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o still_a eternity_n forasmuch_o as_o the_o holy_a ghost_n who_o perform_v all_o the_o good_a will_n of_o the_o trinity_n be_v become_v their_o act_n and_o move_a power_n 8._o in_o the_o next_o place_n these_o simplified_a spirit_n as_o to_o their_o number_n be_v innumerable_a as_o to_o we_o though_o not_o to_o the_o holy_a trinity_n to_o who_o their_o number_n be_v exact_o know_v and_o who_o call_v they_o all_o by_o their_o name_n this_o innumerable_a number_n of_o spirit_n proceed_v as_o i_o tell_v you_o before_o from_o the_o overflow_a stream_n of_o love_n eternal_a essence_n for_o when_o the_o father_n and_o spirit_n move_v in_o the_o heart-essence_n of_o love_n than_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o son_n deity_n open_v itself_o and_o then_o the_o love-essence_n shut_v up_o in_o the_o heart_n do_v flow_v forth_o as_o a_o stream_n from_o the_o heart-center_n out_o of_o which_o essential_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o conjunction_n with_o wisdom_n form_v this_o numberless_a number_n of_o simplified_a spirit_n and_o this_o infinite_a fullness_n of_o the_o divine_a love_n may_v have_v suffice_v to_o the_o production_n of_o many_o more_o of_o these_o spirit_n than_o be_v bring_v forth_o therefore_o the_o outflowing_n of_o this_o ocean_n sea_n what_o shall_v i_o say_v of_o eternal_a love_n be_v bound_v by_o god_n will_n and_o wisdom_n who_o stand_v without_o eternal_a nature_n and_o be_v the_o most_o holy_a place_n and_o presence-chamber_n of_o the_o divine_a majesty_n in_o its_o own_o pure_a abstract_a essence_n but_o to_o speak_v somewhat_o more_o particular_a concern_v the_o place_n of_o â—hese_fw-mi spirit_n i_o say_v that_o they_o be_v place_v round_o about_o the_o eye_n of_o eternity_n not_o in_o the_o very_a eye_n which_o situation_n of_o â—â—â—ir's_n be_v a_o mark_n of_o their_o inferiority_n subordination_n unto_o and_o dependence_n upon_o the_o trinity_n 10._o in_o the_o ten_o and_o last_o place_n i_o shall_v speak_v something_o concern_v their_o outward_a form_n and_o figure_n which_o as_o be_v tell_v you_o before_o be_v the_o very_a same_o with_o the_o figure_n of_o the_o eye_n of_o eternity_n only_o with_o this_o difference_n that_o the_o eye_n of_o eternity_n be_v great_a and_o these_o also_o many_o lesser_a eye_n encompass_v it_o round_o according_a as_o you_o see_v it_o represent_v in_o the_o figure_n which_o be_v in_o the_o margin_n where_o the_o great_a spot_n in_o the_o midst_n decipher_v the_o eye_n of_o eternity_n appear_v like_o the_o black_a or_o sight_n of_o a_o eye_n and_o the_o lesser_a spot_n round_o about_o it_o represent_v the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o still_a eternity_n exact_o resemble_v the_o eye_n of_o eternity_n with_o this_o only_a distinction_n that_o they_o be_v less_o than_o it_o and_o here_o we_o may_v also_o take_v notice_n that_o as_o these_o spirit_n do_v exact_o in_o their_o outward_a figure_n resemble_v the_o holy_a trinity_n as_o they_o exist_v in_o the_o shut_v up_o eye_n of_o eternity_n so_o also_o they_o exact_o resemble_v one_o another_o without_o any_o the_o least_o difference_n appear_v all_o not_o only_o in_o the_o same_o figure_n and_o
and_o three_o number_n and_o if_o all_o will_v keep_v to_o these_o expression_n it_o will_v take_v away_o much_o contention_n about_o word_n there_o be_v other_o who_o be_v so_o far_o displease_v with_o the_o word_n person_n that_o they_o will_v only_o have_v the_o trinity_n to_o be_v three_o denomination_n of_o one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n but_o this_o be_v too_o short_a to_o express_v the_o essential_a distinction_n of_o father_n son_n and_o spirit_n and_o be_v as_o much_o in_o one_o extreme_a as_o the_o word_n person_n be_v in_o the_o other_o i_o now_o proceed_v to_o open_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n which_o consist_v in_o two_o particular_n viz._n unity_n in_o trinity_n and_o trinity_n in_o unity_n and_o first_o concern_v unity_n in_o trinity_n the_o eternal_a unity_n vary_v forth_o itself_o into_o a_o eternal_a trinity_n be_v there_o no_o unity_n there_o can_v be_v no_o trinity_n because_o from_o the_o unity_n the_o holy_a triniâ—â—_n do_v proceed_v as_o from_o its_o eternal_a ground_n object_n but_o you_o will_v say_v if_o the_o eternal_a unity_n be_v â—â—â—_o ground_n whence_o the_o holy_a trinity_n do_v proceed_v than_o there_o iâ—_n execute_v the_o will_n of_o the_o father_n this_o outflowing_a life_n and_o act_v power_n proceed_v from_o the_o divine_a essence_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o therefore_o be_v coeternal_a coessential_a and_o coequal_a with_o the_o father_n and_o son_n quest._n why_o be_v not_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v to_o be_v beget_v of_o but_o to_o proceed_v from_o the_o father_n answ._n if_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v beget_v of_o the_o father_n than_o the_o son_n can_v not_o have_v be_v the_o only_o beget_v of_o the_o father_n and_o so_o the_o father_n will_v have_v have_v more_o son_n than_o one_o neither_o will_v there_o have_v be_v a_o distinction_n between_o the_o son_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v not_o say_v to_o be_v generate_v of_o the_o father_n but_o to_o proceed_v from_o the_o father_n and_o son_n as_o a_o outflowing_a breath_n of_o life_n and_o power_n the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v complete_a the_o trinity_n and_o make_v ghost_n without_o both_o father_n and_o son_n quest._n how_o be_v the_o unity_n in_o trinity_n distinguish_v in_o the_o eternal_a world_n answ._n i_o have_v tell_v you_o before_o that_o the_o trinity_n be_v distinguishable_a by_o their_o name_n number_n order_n and_o by_o their_o relative_a property_n but_o not_o by_o their_o nature_n because_o they_o have_v but_o one_o nature_n and_o holy_a trinity_n in_o the_o eternal_a world_n some_o do_v thus_o distinguish_v the_o trinity_n they_o say_v the_o father_n be_v light_a the_o son_n life_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n love_n but_o these_o can_v be_v the_o distinguish_a character_n of_o the_o trinity_n because_o the_o father_n be_v light_a life_n and_o love_n and_o so_o likewise_o the_o son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n other_o will_v have_v the_o father_n to_o be_v light_n the_o son_n love_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n power_n but_o all_o these_o belong_v to_o every_o one_o of_o the_o trinity_n and_o therefore_o can_v be_v the_o distinguish_a character_n of_o they_o other_o again_o will_v have_v the_o father_n fire_n the_o son_n light_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n air_n but_o these_o be_v element_n which_o be_v root_v in_o eternal_a nature_n principle_n and_o be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o globe_n of_o eternity_n other_o distinguish_v the_o father_n by_o the_o severity_n of_o divine_a justice_n the_o son_n by_o love_n and_o mercifulness_n whereas_o in_o the_o eternal_a world_n there_o be_v no_o severity_n of_o vindictive_a justice_n know_v nor_o any_o thing_n of_o anger_n or_o wrath_n because_o the_o holy_a trinity_n stand_v whole_o in_o the_o unity_n of_o love_n the_o only_a distinction_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n in_o the_o eternal_a world_n be_v this_o that_o the_o father_n manifest_v himself_o as_o a_o wonderful_a all-seeing_a eye_n the_o son_n manifest_v himself_o as_o the_o centre_n of_o the_o eye_n and_o heart_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o a_o outflowing_a power_n proceed_v from_o the_o father_n eye_n and_o the_o son_n heart_n effect_v whatsoever_o the_o will_n of_o the_o father_n in_o the_o eye_n through_o the_o love-essence_n seat_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o son_n will_v have_v do_v and_o thus_o the_o holy_a trinity_n do_v manifest_v themselves_o distinct_o in_o the_o eternal_a world_n though_o they_o all_o stand_v in_o the_o eternal_a unity_n and_o be_v not_o only_o three_o denomination_n as_o will_v be_v clear_o manifest_v in_o the_o three_o chapter_n of_o this_o follow_a discourse_n to_o which_o i_o refer_v you_o now_o
i_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o other_o particular_a in_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n viz._n trinity_n in_o unity_n this_o mystery_n i_o will_v endeavour_v to_o open_v as_o i_o have_v see_v it_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o my_o enlighten_v mind_n and_o show_v how_o the_o holy_a trinity_n do_v subsist_v as_o one_o in_o one_o only_a ground_n or_o divine_a essence_n object_n you_o will_v say_v if_o three_o do_v subsist_v in_o one_o only_a essence_n that_o seem_v to_o make_v a_o quaternity_n and_o not_o a_o trinity_n answ._n this_o be_v a_o ill_a draw_v consequence_n and_o a_o mere_a mistake_n which_o may_v easy_o be_v rectify_v thus_o the_o one_o only_a ground_n or_o essence_n in_o which_o the_o holy_a trinity_n do_v subsist_v be_v the_o eternal_a unity_n and_o this_o eternal_a unity_n in_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n subsist_v in_o the_o father_n unity_n so_o that_o the_o holy_a trinity_n be_v one_o with_o the_o eternal_a unity_n from_o whence_o they_o flow_v forth_o and_o as_o they_o have_v their_o beginning_n from_o the_o unity_n so_o they_o end_v in_o the_o same_o the_o holy_a scripture_n teach_v we_o this_o fundamental_a truth_n that_o the_o holy_a trinity_n be_v one_o and_o yet_o three_o in_o that_o oneness_n 1_o joh._n 5._o 7._o there_o be_v three_o that_o bear_v record_n in_o heaven_n the_o father_n the_o word_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o these_o three_o be_v one_o they_o be_v all_o one_o in_o the_o eternal_a unity_n the_o father_n be_v in_o the_o son_n and_o the_o son_n in_o the_o father_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o the_o father_n and_o son_n so_o that_o one_o can_v be_v without_o the_o other_o and_o be_v but_o one_o ever_o bless_v god_n though_o distinguish_v in_o their_o go_n forth_o and_o the_o manifestation_n of_o themselves_o now_o if_o it_o be_v ask_v what_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n be_v i_o answer_v it_o be_v pure_a unity_n and_o pure_a unity_n be_v pure_a deity_n and_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o father_n son_n and_o spirit_n they_o be_v all_o unity_n and_o pure_a deity_n and_o as_o they_o have_v but_o one_o undivided_a nature_n so_o they_o have_v but_o one_o eye_n one_o understanding_n one_o will._n but_o if_o any_o one_o inquire_v further_o what_o this_o eternal_a unity_n and_o deity_n be_v which_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n i_o answer_v that_o none_o know_v this_o but_o the_o unsearchable_a trinity_n neither_o be_v it_o any_o further_a knowable_a by_o angel_n or_o man_n but_o that_o it_o be_v what_o it_o be_v but_o notwithstanding_o that_o we_o say_v that_o the_o unity_n be_v unknowable_a in_o itself_o to_o angel_n and_o man_n yet_o it_o may_v be_v know_v forasmuch_o as_o it_o relate_v to_o the_o trinity_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o one_o ground_n in_o which_o they_o subsist_v and_o in_o this_o respect_n we_o say_v that_o the_o eternal_a unity_n be_v a_o most_o simple_a essence_n free_a from_o all_o duality_n and_o contrariety_n it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o variety_n may_v consist_v with_o unity_n but_o contrariety_n destroy_v its_o nature_n which_o admit_v of_o no_o mixture_n whatsoever_o now_o if_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o trinity_n be_v eternal_a unity_n and_o simplicity_n free_a from_o all_o contrariety_n and_o mixture_n it_o follow_v that_o light_n and_o darkness_n love_n and_o anger_n can_v be_v in_o the_o holy_a trinity_n as_o they_o exist_v in_o the_o globe_n of_o eternity_n because_o these_o contrariety_n will_v necessary_o destroy_v the_o nature_n of_o unity_n but_o you_o will_v say_v that_o god_n be_v style_v in_o scripture_n a_o god_n that_o be_v angry_a and_o a_o consume_a fire_n and_o in_o other_o place_n he_o be_v say_v to_o be_v light_n and_o love_n which_o imply_v that_o there_o be_v a_o mixture_n of_o contrariety_n in_o the_o essence_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n i_o answer_v that_o these_o scripture_n speak_v of_o god_n as_o he_o have_v introduce_v himself_o into_o apostatise_v and_o impure_a nature_n essence_n after_o the_o fall_n whereas_o i_o in_o this_o place_n speak_v of_o god_n as_o he_o exist_v in_o the_o eternal_a world_n before_o eternal_a nature_n be_v divide_v by_o the_o fall_n and_o in_o this_o state_n the_o holy_a trinity_n be_v nothing_o but_o eternal_a unity_n free_a from_o any_o contrariety_n or_o mixture_n whatsoever_o and_o thus_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o trinity_n if_o well_o understand_v manifest_v clear_o hâ—w_a father_n son_n and_o spirit_n be_v distinct_a and_o yet_o be_v but_o one_o eternal_a unity_n and_o thus_o much_o concern_v the_o trinity_n in_o unity_n now_o i_o will_v further_o treat_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o holy_a trinity_n the_o triune_n god_n consider_v in_o himself_o in_o the_o globe_n of_o eternity_n be_v pure_a deity_n which_o pure_a deiâ—y_n be_v the_o high_a purity_n clarity_n and_o brightness_n of_o glory_n beyond_o all_o imagination_n this_o high_a purity_n of_o the_o trinity_n be_v free_a from_o all_o impurity_n and_o imperfection_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o this_o high_a purity_n consist_v the_o righteousness_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n this_o bright_a purity_n be_v the_o
