be_v it_o not_o punctual_a to_o the_o point_n propose_v for_o by_o this_o answer_n the_o spirit_n here_o mean_v shall_v only_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o man_n for_o by_o this_o spirit_n only_o we_o work_v our_o mortification_n consecutiuè_fw-la that_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v work_v in_o we_o it_o work_v direct_o immediate_o and_o entire_o and_o in_o produce_v its_o proper_a effect_n it_o have_v no_o partner_n or_o co-agent_n it_o may_v notwithstanding_o be_v yet_o further_o reply_v that_o we_o must_v mortify_v the_o flesh_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n not_o as_o by_o any_o instrumental_a cause_n subordinate_a to_o we_o but_o in_o such_o a_o sense_n as_o we_o say_v inferior_a magistrate_n do_v the_o act_n of_o the_o magistracy_n by_o the_o king_n or_o supreme_a magistrate_n authority_n unto_o which_o they_o and_o their_o magistracy_n be_v subordinate_a thus_o some_o good_a pasqualius_n good_a pasqualius_n interpreter_n upon_o this_o place_n say_v that_o we_o say_v to_o be_v the_o agent_n even_o in_o those_o thing_n which_o they_o do_v by_o the_o authority_n and_o warrant_n of_o the_o superior_n whereas_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v not_o only_o the_o author_n or_o sole_a authorizer_n but_o the_o principal_a actor_n or_o agent_n in_o this_o work_n of_o mortification_n for_o a_o more_o particular_a and_o punctual_a resolution_n of_o the_o question_n propose_v we_o be_v to_o unfold_v the_o divers_a acception_n of_o these_o word_n or_o term_n to_o wit_n the_o spirit_n and_o mortification_n 3._o there_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o there_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o man_n both_o of_o they_o have_v their_o several_a and_o divers_a importance_n in_o scripture_n the_o spirit_n of_o man_n may_v be_v consider_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o natural_a man_n or_o in_o the_o man_n altogether_o unregenerate_a and_o this_o spirit_n be_v at_o enmity_n with_o god_n or_o in_o the_o man_n as_o yet_o unregenerate_a yet_o in_o the_o way_n to_o regeneration_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o this_o man_n be_v privative_o opposite_a to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n so_o as_o darkness_n be_v to_o light_n blindness_n to_o sight_n or_o death_n to_o life_n there_o be_v a_o spirit_n likewise_o in_o the_o man_n regenerate_v the_o same_o for_o substance_n with_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o natural_a man_n the_o same_o for_o substance_n that_o it_o be_v in_o himself_o before_o regeneration_n but_o alter_v in_o quality_n and_o this_o spirit_n though_o it_o cease_v not_o to_o be_v in_o man_n yet_o be_v it_o not_o usual_o call_v the_o spirit_n of_o man_n as_o be_v no_o way_n opposite_a unto_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n but_o subordinate_a unto_o it_o so_o subordinate_a unto_o it_o that_o it_o be_v call_v the_o spirit_n that_o be_v of_o god_n and_o sometime_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n 4._o these_o diverse_a acception_n of_o the_o word_n spirit_n as_o likewise_o the_o distinction_n or_o opposition_n between_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n be_v set_v down_o by_o our_o apostle_n 1._o cor._n 2._o from_o the_o nine_o verse_n unto_o the_o end_n of_o the_o chapter_n what_o man_n know_v the_o thing_n of_o a_o man_n save_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n which_o be_v in_o he_o even_o so_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n know_v no_o man_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n ver_fw-la 11._o he_o do_v not_o say_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n again_o when_o he_o say_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n know_v no_o man_n he_o exclude_v the_o natural_a man_n only_o or_o the_o man_n to_o who_o god_n have_v not_o impart_v the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o so_o he_o have_v say_v for_o 9_o eye_n have_v not_o see_v nor_o ear_n hear_v neither_o have_v enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n the_o thing_n which_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o they_o that_o love_v he_o into_o what_o man_n heart_n have_v they_o not_o enter_v or_o unto_o what_o man_n do_v this_o negative_a belong_v only_o to_o the_o natural_a or_o unregenerate_a man._n for_o by_o we_o and_o know_v by_o we_o they_o can_v be_v but_o by_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v in_o we_o so_o he_o add_v more_o express_o ver._n 12._o now_o we_o have_v receive_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o spiritual_a and_o punctual_o to_o this_o purpose_n the_o apostle_n have_v say_v for_o 14._o the_o natural_a man_n receive_v not_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n for_o they_o be_v foolishness_n unto_o he_o neither_o can_v he_o know_v they_o so_o long_o as_o he_o remain_v a_o natural_a man_n because_o they_o be_v spiritual_o discern_v he_o add_v by_o way_n of_o opposition_n cure_v or_o of_o the_o subject_a whereunto_o the_o say_a medicine_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v like_a dislike_n or_o contrary_a 2._o the_o medicine_n may_v be_v sometime_o contrary_a to_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o disease_n but_o like_a unto_o the_o nature_n oppose_v sometime_o again_o the_o medicine_n may_v be_v contrary_a to_o the_o nature_n but_o agreeable_a with_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o disease_n wherewith_o nature_n be_v oppose_v some_o disease_n proper_o consist_v in_o mere_a weakness_n of_o nature_n or_o languishment_n of_o spirit_n and_o these_o must_v be_v cure_v per_fw-la simile_n by_o administration_n of_o such_o diet_n or_o receipt_n as_o may_v immediate_o comfort_v the_o fountain_n of_o life_n which_o consist_v in_o calido_fw-la &_o humido_fw-la in_o moderate_a heat_n and_o moisture_n as_o for_o this_o reason_n hot-water_n to_o man_n in_o 'swounds_o be_v fit_a and_o warm_a broth_n or_o cordial_n to_o man_n otherwise_o feeble_a or_o deprive_v of_o heat_n and_o moisture_n other_o disease_n consist_v either_o in_o excessive_a heat_n or_o abundance_n of_o blood_n and_o these_o must_v be_v cure_v by_o the_o contrary_a as_o by_o open_v a_o vein_n or_o by_o cool_a diet_n or_o medicine_n too_o much_o fullness_n of_o body_n can_v be_v holpen_v but_o by_o abstinence_n or_o evacuation_n however_o both_o sort_n of_o physician_n agree_v that_o when_o all_o be_v do_v nature_n be_v the_o best_a physician_n and_o that_o be_v the_o best_a physic_n which_o set_v nature_n free_a to_o exercise_v she_o own_o strength_n or_o strengthen_v she_o to_o expel_v noisome_a humour_n which_o cloy_v or_o molest_v she_o but_o oft_o time_n it_o so_o fall_v out_o that_o nature_n can_v be_v thus_o free_v of_o bad_a humour_n which_o be_v settle_v in_o the_o body_n without_o administration_n of_o some_o thing_n that_o be_v contrary_a unto_o nature_n but_o consort_v so_o well_o with_o the_o humour_n which_o oppress_v she_o that_o nature_n be_v enforce_v to_o
