for_o the_o commonness_n as_o well_o as_o for_o the_o usefulness_n of_o that_o fruit_n that_o none_o may_v plead_v ignorance_n that_o they_o may_v not_o plead_v excuse_n that_o none_o may_v say_v he_o be_v such_o a_o fruit_n as_o none_o can_v buy_v that_o they_o can_v not_o come_v at_o no_o christ_n will_v be_v resemble_v unto_o that_o which_o be_v common_a that_o he_o may_v be_v hold_v forth_o free_o unto_o poor_a lose_a sinner_n under_o the_o gospel_n 5._o and_o then_o five_o and_o last_o he_o be_v set_v forth_o by_o the_o appletree_n for_o the_o variety_n of_o fruit_n which_o it_o do_v bring_v forth_o and_o do_v grow_v upon_o this_o tree_n there_o be_v no_o tree_n that_o bring_v forth_o such_o variety_n of_o fruit_n how_o many_o sort_n several_a kind_n of_o apple_n they_o be_v almost_o innumerable_a and_o true_o in_o this_o respect_n christ_n be_v the_o appletree_n because_o of_o those_o innumerable_a precious_a gift_n and_o grace_n which_o do_v grow_v upon_o he_o the_o fullness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v pour_v out_o upon_o he_o it_o make_v he_o to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n of_o all_o kind_n he_o be_v the_o only_o beget_v son_n of_o god_n full_a of_o grace_n and_o truth_n there_o can_v be_v no_o excellency_n nor_o no_o perfection_n name_v which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o son_n of_o god_n they_o all_o do_v concentre_v and_o meet_v in_o he_o i_o shall_v say_v no_o more_o at_o this_o time_n but_o leave_v the_o metaphor_n unto_o your_o consideration_n think_v of_o it_o the_o lord_n jesus_n be_v please_v to_o be_v resemble_v to_o a_o appletree_n such_o a_o delight_n in_o be_v useful_a in_o be_v serviceable_a in_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n unto_o his_o father_n fruit_n that_o shall_v be_v for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o look_v to_o christ_n and_o labour_n to_o imitate_v christ_n the_o lord_n he_o delight_v in_o a_o fruitful_a tree_n rather_o than_o in_o a_o tall_a tree_n or_o in_o a_o strong_a tree_n it_o be_v the_o great_a commendation_n that_o can_v be_v to_o be_v fruitful_a and_o serviceable_a to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n to_o god_n and_o our_o generation_n christ_n choose_v this_o and_o let_v we_o choose_v it_o too_o and_o let_v we_o look_v to_o god_n who_o be_v the_o husbandman_n who_o make_v all_o this_o tree_n to_o be_v fruitful_a tree_n in_o his_o due_a time_n so_o much_o for_o this_o time_n sermon_n ii_o cant_n 2._o 3._o at_o the_o appletree_n among_o the_o tree_n of_o the_o wood_n so_o be_v my_o belove_a among_o the_o son_n i_o sit_v down_o under_o his_o shadow_n with_o great_a delight_n and_o his_o fruit_n be_v sweet_a to_o my_o taste_n i_o have_v make_v entrance_n the_o last_o day_n here_o be_v a_o double_a comparison_n the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v compare_v to_o the_o tree_n of_o the_o wood_n the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v compare_v to_o the_o appletree_n among_o those_o tree_n i_o shall_v add_v a_o five_o particular_a wherein_n the_o resemblance_n hold_v 5._o christ_n here_o be_v set_v forth_o as_o the_o appletree_n it_o seem_v to_o relate_v to_o the_o fruit_n of_o that_o tree_n that_o man_n do_v eat_v in_o paradise_n which_o in_o all_o probability_n be_v a_o kind_n of_o apple_n and_o herein_o we_o call_v to_o mind_v how_o man_n lose_v his_o happiness_n where_o it_o be_v that_o man_n undo_v himself_o how_o sin_n come_v into_o the_o world_n by_o eat_v of_o the_o forbid_a fruit_n as_o also_o it_o hold_v forth_o that_o christ_n have_v take_v away_o that_o curse_v all_o the_o bitterness_n and_o wrath_n for_o his_o people_n which_o be_v the_o fruit_n that_o come_v up_o from_o the_o wilderness_n lean_v upon_o her_o belove_a i_o raise_v thou_o up_o under_o the_o appletree_n there_o thy_o mother_n bring_v thou_o forth_o there_o she_o bring_v forth_o which_o be_v bring_v into_o the_o world_n by_o the_o disobedience_n of_o man_n under_o the_o tree_n so_o then_o i_o say_v this_o may_v be_v hold_v forth_o 1._o first_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v his_o people_n remember_v what_o they_o lose_v in_o adam_n by_o their_o disobedience_n and_o then_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v they_o remember_v the_o lord_n jesus_n he_o have_v take_v away_o all_o that_o curse_n and_o all_o that_o wrath_n which_o be_v the_o desert_n of_o man_n disobedience_n so_o that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v pour_v upon_o believer_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o comparison_n betwixt_o christ_n and_o the_o appletree_n 2._o it_o be_v say_v further_o that_o he_o be_v as_o the_o appletree_n among_o the_o tree_n of_o the_o wood._n the_o next_o work_n than_o be_v to_o inquire_v after_o that_o comparison_n why_o be_v christ_n say_v to_o be_v the_o appletree_n among_o the_o tree_n of_o the_o wood_n why_o not_o among_o the_o tree_n of_o the_o garden_n there_o be_v much_o in_o this_o comparison_n receive_v it_o with_o attention_n for_o i_o shall_v be_v but_o short_a in_o this_o work_n 1._o first_o of_o all_o it_o hold_v forth_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n take_v the_o same_o nature_n that_o we_o have_v he_o become_v man_n he_o take_v upon_o he_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n it_o be_v true_a he_o be_v not_o a_o wild_a tree_n but_o he_o be_v a_o tree_n as_o well_o as_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o tree_n in_o the_o wood_n he_o be_v of_o the_o same_o substance_n with_o they_o he_o have_v the_o same_o body_n the_o same_o bark_n the_o same_o rind_n the_o same_o outside_n that_o other_o tree_n have_v he_o be_v in_o all_o thing_n make_v like_a unto_o we_o we_o read_v in_o heb._n 2._o 14_o 17._o for_o as_o much_o then_o as_o the_o child_n be_v partaker_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n he_o also_o himself_o likewise_o take_v part_n of_o the_o same_o that_o though_o death_n he_o may_v destroy_v he_o that_o have_v the_o power_n of_o death_n that_o be_v the_o devil_n wherefore_o in_o all_o thing_n it_o behove_v he_o to_o be_v make_v like_o unto_o his_o brethren_n that_o he_o may_v be_v a_o merciful_a and_o faithful_a high_a priest_n in_o thing_n pertain_v you_o for_o you_o will_v never_o come_v up_o unto_o it_o but_o if_o thou_o be_v one_o that_o do_v profess_v submission_n to_o christ_n then_o be_v you_o my_o friend_n say_v christ_n and_o my_o thou_o to_o come_v up_o to_o it_o thou_o shall_v have_v most_o peace_n in_o it_o and_o when_o ever_o it_o be_v over_o it_o will_v never_o repent_v thou_o that_o thou_o do_v seek_v that_o man_n that_o have_v do_v thou_o the_o wrong_n object_n 2._o ay_o but_o it_o will_v be_v object_v further_a he_o have_v do_v i_o that_o wrong_n that_o can_v be_v repair_v he_o have_v wrong_v i_o in_o my_o good_a name_n oh_o his_o word_n have_v be_v as_o sharp_a arrow_n and_o they_o have_v wound_v secret_o if_o he_o have_v break_v my_o head_n i_o can_v have_v bear_v it_o that_o will_v have_v be_v heal_v again_o but_o he_o have_v wound_v my_o good_a name_n take_v away_o my_o good_a name_n and_o therefore_o herein_o it_o be_v hard_o for_o a_o man_n to_o come_v up_o to_o this_o duty_n of_o forgive_n of_o such_o wrong_n answ_n 1._o but_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v thou_o speak_v of_o arrow_n that_o shall_v wound_v thou_o in_o thy_o name_n oh_o but_o they_o be_v not_o worse_o than_o those_o which_o wound_v christ_n they_o wound_v he_o in_o his_o name_n in_o his_o good_a name_n they_o reproach_v he_o and_o revile_v he_o yet_o he_o cry_v out_o father_n forgive_v they_o they_o be_v not_o sharp_a in_o it_o he_o can_v not_o have_v open_v his_o mouth_n against_o he_o david_n consider_v that_o when_o shimei_n curse_v he_o say_v he_o it_o may_v be_v god_n have_v say_v unto_o he_o go_v and_o curse_n david_n and_o so_o his_o spirit_n submit_v unto_o it_o ay_o david_n consider_v it_o be_v a_o righteous_a thing_n with_o god_n for_o i_o have_v sin_v against_o i_o have_v wound_v the_o name_n wound_a spirit_n who_o can_v bear_v and_o know_v if_o thy_o spirit_n be_v not_o bring_v off_o to_o pass_v by_o those_o wrong_n and_o injury_n which_o be_v do_v unto_o thy_o brother_n the_o lord_n may_v wound_v thy_o spirit_n even_o as_o he_o suffer_v man_n to_o wound_v thy_o good_a name_n object_n 3._o but_o three_o it_o will_v be_v object_v further_o for_o it_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a thing_n pass_v by_o so_o many_o wrong_n and_o such_o open_a wrong_n and_o injury_n answ_n 1._o i_o answer_v thou_o say_v thou_o shall_v be_v count_v a_o child_n when_o christ_n say_v thou_o must_v be_v be_v further_o object_v some_o will_v say_v i_o never_o do_v he_o wrong_v in_o my_o life_n he_o have_v abuse_v i_o so_o and_o so_o and_o i_o never_o do_v he_o the_o least_o wrong_n in_o all_o my_o day_n here_o be_v a_o hard_a task_n well_o in_o answer_n to_o this_o answ_n 1._o first_o of_o all_o the_o lord_n may_v say_v the_o same_o of_o thou_o if_o thou_o be_v one_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v forgive_v the_o lord_n may_v say_v oh_o i_o have_v do_v such_o a_o man_n good_a so_o and_o so_o and_o he_o have_v rebel_v and_o sin_v so_o against_o i_o i_o say_v may_v not_o the_o lord_n urge_v this_o against_o every_o one_o of_o we_o i_o have_v do_v this_o and_o that_o for_o he_o and_o i_o have_v never_o do_v he_o wrong_n yet_o he_o have_v do_v thus_o to_o i_o notwithstanding_o which_o carry_v out_o with_o strong_a desire_n after_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n when_o the_o soul_n delight_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o be_v carry_v out_o with_o strong_a desire_n after_o further_a and_o further_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n this_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n walk_v with_o he_o when_o it_o can_v take_v up_o in_o any_o thing_n short_a of_o eye_n to_o witness_v no_o eye_n to_o overlook_a yet_o it_o know_v that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o though_o he_o do_v so_o see_v the_o transgression_n of_o his_o people_n as_o to_o cast_v they_o off_o yet_o he_o may_v see_v that_o which_o may_v be_v matter_n of_o sore_a displeasure_n and_o grief_n and_o therefore_o this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v as_o a_o bridle_n and_o a_o woman_n etc._n etc._n and_o so_o say_v he_o oh_o my_o soul_n give_v not_o thy_o strength_n to_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n give_v not_o the_o strength_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o affection_n to_o these_o poor_a low_a thing_n thou_o have_v better_a thing_n to_o spend_v thy_o strength_n upon_o there_o be_v god_n and_o christ_n there_o be_v a_o kingdom_n there_o be_v the_o pearl_n of_o great_a price_n there_o be_v a_o inheritance_n there_o be_v a_o eternity_n there_o be_v a_o everlasting_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n these_o thing_n be_v thou_o to_o be_v take_v up_o with_o these_o hitherto_o every_o day_n and_o i_o work_v so_o that_o he_o that_o walk_v with_o god_n look_v upon_o his_o call_v as_o a_o ordinance_n of_o god_n and_o see_v the_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n in_o it_o in_o appoint_v such_o a_o way_n for_o man_n there_o be_v abundance_n of_o wisdom_n in_o it_o by_o this_o mean_v wicked_a man_n be_v keep_v from_o be_v desperate_o wicked_a if_o there_o be_v no_o work_n no_o employment_n for_o they_o there_o will_v be_v a_o study_v of_o wickedness_n a_o plot_v and_o contrive_v of_o wickedness_n sin_n will_v become_v out_o of_o measure_n sinful_a it_o will_v break_v from_o all_o bank_n and_o bound_n the_o whole_a earth_n will_v commit_v violence_n nay_o it_o be_v good_a for_o god_n own_o people_n whilst_o they_o be_v in_o the_o world_n to_o have_v employment_n for_o by_o this_o mean_v they_o be_v keep_v from_o many_o a_o snare_n and_o many_o a_o temptation_n they_o be_v free_v from_o a_o idle_a man_n tempt_v the_o devil_n the_o devil_n tempt_v man_n and_o a_o idle_a man_n tempt_v the_o devil_n unto_o those_o woeful_a snare_n which_o other_o be_v employ_v be_v free_v from_o a_o man_n that_o walk_v with_o god_n look_v upon_o his_o call_v god_n have_v set_v he_o in_o as_o a_o ordinance_n of_o god_n but_o then_o again_o 2._o second_o he_o desire_v to_o do_v all_o the_o work_n of_o his_o call_v as_o unto_o god_n that_o be_v another_o you_o thus_o faithful_a in_o your_o calling_n it_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o god_n look_v after_o faithfulness_n walk_v with_o he_o whilst_o we_o be_v perform_v the_o work_n of_o our_o call_v it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o the_o call_v that_o god_n regard_v but_o your_o faithfulness_n in_o it_o let_v the_o call_v be_v what_o it_o will_v if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o call_v never_o so_o honourable_a yet_o if_o he_o be_v not_o faithful_a in_o it_o he_o be_v no_o way_n please_v to_o god_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o call_v never_o so_o mean_a and_o never_o so_o low_a yet_o if_o he_o be_v faithful_a in_o it_o it_o be_v well_o please_v to_o god_n oh_o it_o be_v that_o which_o will_v stick_v by_o you_o yea_o it_o be_v that_o which_o will_v follow_v you_o when_o you_o leave_v the_o world_n your_o calling_n can_v follow_v you_o they_o must_v leave_v you_o they_o must_v be_v leave_v behind_o below_o but_o thy_o faithfulness_n that_o faithfulness_n that_o have_v be_v exercise_v in_o thy_o employment_n and_o in_o thy_o work_n that_o will_v never_o leave_v thy_o soul_n that_o will_v follow_v it_o even_o unto_o heaven_n and_o now_o you_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n though_o other_o be_v unfaithful_a yet_o you_o be_v engage_v to_o faithfulness_n you_o be_v engage_v to_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o the_o work_n of_o your_o call_v for_o you_o have_v the_o body_n and_o therefore_o you_o be_v engage_v herein_o as_o it_o be_v your_o duty_n therefore_o be_v faithful_a in_o all_o oh_o what_o encouragement_n be_v here_o for_o christian_n to_o consider_v this_o whatsoever_o their_o call_v be_v though_o never_o so_o mean_a they_o be_v accept_v in_o it_o the_o lord_n accept_v it_o while_o they_o study_v faithfulness_n to_o carry_v it_o faithful_o in_o therefore_o if_o you_o have_v acceptance_n not_o only_a when_o you_o come_v before_o god_n in_o his_o worship_n but_o when_o you_o be_v in_o your_o own_o way_n in_o your_o calling_n and_o employment_n your_o person_n and_o work_n be_v accept_v it_o be_v a_o great_a engagement_n unto_o you_o to_o be_v find_v faithful_a in_o the_o work_n of_o your_o call_v and_o so_o much_o for_o this_o time_n noble_a and_o that_o be_v to_o serve_v god_n in_o his_o generation_n that_o he_o may_v be_v a_o instrument_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n to_o do_v some_o good_a in_o his_o generation_n that_o god_n may_v have_v the_o glory_n of_o it_o this_o be_v the_o last_o end_n and_o so_o he_o do_v all_o as_o to_o the_o lord_n he_o desire_v also_o to_o be_v holy_a and_o spiritual_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o call_v though_o his_o hand_n be_v to_o the_o earth_n he_o desire_v that_o his_o heart_n may_v be_v upright_o he_o groan_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o a_o carnal_a heart_n it_o be_v worse_o than_o death_n to_o he_o to_o be_v carnal_o mind_v he_o rejoice_v in_o the_o promise_n of_o holiness_n and_o in_o that_o prophecy_n in_o zachariah_n in_o that_o day_n holiness_n shall_v be_v write_v to_o the_o lord_n upon_o the_o bell_n of_o horse_n there_o be_v a_o promise_n that_o god_n people_n shall_v be_v holy_a when_o they_o be_v in_o the_o world_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o calling_n and_o employment_n holiness_n shall_v be_v write_v to_o the_o lord_n upon_o they_o he_o rejoice_v to_o think_v that_o that_o time_n be_v a_o come_n he_o pray_v and_o wait_v to_o see_v the_o accomplishment_n of_o it_o in_o his_o own_o spirit_n he_o desire_v to_o sanctify_v all_o by_o the_o word_n and_o prayer_n he_o know_v its_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o not_o his_o own_o endeavour_n that_o can_v make_v he_o prosperous_a in_o his_o call_v he_o desire_v also_o that_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n do_v shut_v out_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n that_o be_v another_o part_n of_o his_o walk_n with_o god_n oh_o how_o fearful_a be_v he_o to_o grasp_v too_o much_o of_o the_o world_n how_o fearful_a be_v he_o that_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v deprive_v he_o of_o those_o opportunity_n of_o wait_v upon_o god_n of_o communion_n with_o the_o lord_n and_o with_o his_o own_o spirit_n he_o do_v not_o live_v upon_o his_o own_o endeavour_n but_o he_o live_v by_o faith_n whilst_o he_o work_v with_o his_o hand_n he_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o promise_n for_o protection_n blessing_n and_o acceptance_n he_o desire_v also_o to_o shun_v all_o those_o snare_n and_o temptation_n that_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o call_v as_o every_o call_v have_v its_o special_a snare_n and_o temptation_n he_o desire_v there_o to_o be_v most_o watchful_a where_o there_o be_v most_o likelihood_n he_o shall_v slip_v and_o fall_v and_o be_v snare_v and_o break_v he_o pray_v and_o watch_v against_o the_o temptation_n that_o be_v in_o his_o way_n and_o be_v relation_n there_o be_v three_o sort_n there_o be_v that_o of_o husband_n and_o wife_n parent_n and_o child_n and_z
servant_z and_o master_n i_o shall_v not_o speak_v large_o of_o all_o these_o it_o will_v be_v too_o large_a a_o subject_n i_o shall_v only_o now_o give_v you_o some_o hint_n what_o that_o gracious_a herself_o as_o one_o that_o be_v give_v to_o be_v a_o meet_a help_n unto_o her_o husband_n and_o therefore_o she_o desire_v to_o do_v he_o good_a all_o his_o day_n so_o say_v solomon_n when_o he_o speak_v of_o this_o virtuous_a woman_n in_o prov._n 21._o 12._o she_o will_v do_v he_o good_a and_o not_o evil_a all_o the_o day_n of_o his_o life_n she_o endeavour_v to_o help_v he_o and_o to_o do_v he_o good_a in_o his_o soul_n body_n and_o estate_n she_o will_v do_v he_o good_a in_o every_o condition_n in_o affliction_n in_o low_a condition_n when_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v upon_o god_n in_o make_v two_o to_o become_v one_o and_o therefore_o i_o say_v of_o that_o love_n which_o be_v due_a to_o and_o which_o he_o may_v give_v unto_o the_o creature_n he_o give_v unto_o she_o the_o great_a share_n as_o be_v the_o near_a relation_n and_o because_o he_o love_v she_o you_o shall_v see_v how_o he_o carry_v himself_o towards_o she_o 1._o first_o he_o love_v her_o soul_n in_o
