resemblance_n of_o heaven_n and_o that_o which_o be_v in_o heaven_n be_v here_o among_o we_o and_o therefore_o if_o heaven_n be_v a_o place_n to_o be_v delight_v in_o the_o saint_n be_v therefore_o have_v a_o high_a esteem_n of_o the_o saint_n close_o with_o they_o and_o come_v into_o as_o near_a communion_n as_o be_v possible_a if_o they_o be_v so_o excellent_a and_o to_o be_v delight_v in_o that_o the_o way_n to_o be_v account_v more_o eminent_a than_o other_o be_v to_o be_v rich_a and_o to_o wear_v fine_a clothes_n &_o get_v honour_n and_o such_o like_a but_o these_o be_v fade_v and_o not_o permanent_a so_o there_o be_v many_o minister_n that_o think_v to_o get_v esteem_n if_o they_o be_v honour_v before_o great_a one_o and_o go_v brave_a but_o you_o know_v by_o experience_n that_o a_o faithful_a godly_a minister_n that_o walk_v faithful_o and_o conscionable_o he_o get_v more_o esteem_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n not_o only_o of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a but_o of_o those_o that_o have_v enlighten_v conscience_n than_o a_o hundred_o of_o those_o and_o they_o vex_v at_o it_o that_o they_o shall_v do_v so_o why_o they_o go_v a_o way_n to_o work_v to_o get_v more_o esteem_n but_o they_o be_v deceive_v they_o look_v at_o excellency_n where_o it_o be_v not_o it_o be_v not_o such_o thing_n but_o in_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n that_o prevail_v with_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n boniface_n the_o martyr_n when_o he_o be_v ask_v the_o question_n boniface_n if_o he_o may_v have_v the_o sacrament_n if_o he_o will_v drink_v it_o in_o a_o wooden_a chalice_n now_o they_o have_v golden_a cup_n that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o bravery_n and_o glory_n but_o they_o have_v wooden_a priest_n those_o that_o have_v no_o true_a excellency_n in_o they_o 10.20_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v little_a worth_n it_o may_v be_v his_o estate_n his_o house_n his_o land_n may_v be_v somewhat_o worth_a but_o what_o be_v his_o heart_n worth_n he_o have_v nothing_o in_o himself_o to_o commend_v himself_o but_o now_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n people_n be_v in_o that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o heart_n it_o be_v a_o uncomfortable_a thing_n to_o any_o of_o you_o if_o suppose_v you_o have_v a_o servant_n along_o with_o you_o where_o you_o go_v and_o all_o the_o respect_n you_o have_v be_v for_o your_o servant_n sake_n if_o any_o entertain_v you_o into_o their_o house_n it_o be_v not_o out_o of_o respect_n to_o you_o but_o respect_n to_o your_o man_n they_o love_v your_o man_n and_o for_o his_o sake_n they_o entertain_v you_o they_o have_v no_o respect_n but_o godly_a man_n have_v not_o so_o many_o servant_n to_o gain_v respect_n by_o outward_a thing_n but_o that_o respect_n they_o have_v of_o god_n saint_n and_o in_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n they_o have_v it_o from_o a_o internal_a excellency_n but_o we_o let_v this_o go_v the_o second_o point_n follow_v the_o excellent_a of_o the_o earth_n in_o who_o be_v all_o my_o delight_n it_o be_v but_o little_a that_o can_v be_v do_v i_o see_v though_o it_o be_v the_o point_n i_o intend_v most_o that_o that_o have_v be_v say_v already_o make_v way_n abundant_o into_o the_o heart_n that_o if_o they_o be_v the_o excellent_a of_o the_o earth_n there_o be_v cause_n that_o we_o shall_v delight_v in_o they_o observation_n that_o be_v the_o point_n that_o a_o gracious_a heart_n take_v great_a delight_n in_o the_o saint_n on_o earth_n first_o in_o their_o person_n or_o second_o in_o their_o society_n and_o communion_n with_o they_o or_o rather_o thus_o they_o take_v delight_n in_o they_o severally_z and_o joint_o if_o they_o look_v upon_o any_o one_o saint_n of_o god_n they_o have_v delight_n in_o he_o but_o they_o have_v more_o to_o look_v on_o all_o the_o saint_n together_o joint_o so_o they_o can_v say_v their_o soul_n delight_v in_o they_o there_o be_v a_o sweet_a complacency_n take_v in_o they_o joint_o and_o that_o be_v that_o which_o i_o shall_v speak_v to_o at_o this_o time_n the_o delight_n that_o be_v to_o be_v take_v in_o the_o saint_n joint_o together_o there_o be_v delight_n in_o the_o saint_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o their_o society_n and_o communion_n with_o they_o for_o so_o this_o delight_n of_o david_n be_v to_o be_v take_v in_o a_o large_a sense_n not_o only_o in_o one_o particular_a because_o of_o the_o good_a that_o he_o see_v in_o their_o person_n but_o in_o regard_n of_o all_o the_o good_a he_o see_v in_o they_o and_o by_o they_o in_o join_v with_o they_o take_v they_o a_o delightful_a work_n as_o they_o be_v together_o to_o praise_n god_n christ_n be_v praise_v he_o as_o they_o worship_v christ_n be_v worship_v now_o every_o saint_n of_o god_n have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o he_o and_o so_o he_o delight_v in_o the_o society_n of_o the_o saint_n on_o this_o ground_n because_o there_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n and_o god_n be_v praise_v solemn_o among_o their_o heart_n that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o pray_v this_o be_v a_o argument_n that_o prayer_n be_v prevalent_a because_o when_o god_n will_v not_o show_v mercy_n he_o will_v not_o have_v such_o a_o precious_a thing_n lose_v and_o spend_v to_o no_o purpose_n last_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a because_o if_o it_o shall_v than_o a_o pray_a heart_n be_v not_o always_o a_o mercy_n from_o god_n but_o certain_o it_o be_v therefore_o though_o perhaps_o you_o can_v find_v the_o thing_n grant_v that_o you_o pray_v for_o yet_o to_o have_v a_o continual_a pray_v heart_n know_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n from_o god_n and_o those_o that_o be_v spiritual_a prize_v more_o the_o continuance_n of_o a_o pray_a heart_n many_o time_n than_o the_o grant_n of_o the_o thing_n they_o pray_v for_o all_o these_o put_v together_o be_v full_a evidence_n that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a to_o call_v unto_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v many_o other_o evidence_n which_o i_o pass_v by_o one_o purpose_n that_o i_o may_v have_v as_o much_o time_n as_o may_v be_v for_o application_n but_o now_o wherein_o do_v it_o appear_v that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a to_o seek_v the_o lord_n what_o do_v prayer_n do_v first_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a to_o seek_v god_n if_o there_o be_v nothing_o else_o in_o prayer_n but_o the_o right_a exercise_n of_o the_o faculty_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o of_o our_o grace_n this_o alone_o be_v worth_a our_o time_n the_o grace_n of_o our_o soul_n must_v be_v exercise_v about_o somewhat_o now_o prayer_n serve_v for_o the_o exercise_n of_o all_o grace_n second_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a if_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o the_o performance_n of_o our_o duty_n as_o creature_n to_o god_n there_o be_v many_o people_n that_o be_v weary_a of_o prayer_n because_o they_o have_v not_o that_o by_o it_o that_o they_o expect_v but_o know_v that_o there_o be_v two_o argument_n to_o prayer_n the_o performance_n of_o duty_n and_o the_o obtain_n of_o mercy_n if_o there_o be_v but_o only_o the_o former_a that_o alone_o shall_v suffice_v to_o keep_v thou_o pray_v as_o long_o as_o thou_o live_v three_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a if_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o the_o tender_v that_o homage_n and_o worship_n that_o we_o owe_v to_o god_n prayer_n be_v not_o only_o a_o duty_n but_o a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o worship_n that_o god_n have_v in_o the_o world_n while_o we_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n it_o be_v worth_a the_o time_n again_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a if_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o this_o that_o we_o come_v and_o show_v what_o side_n we_o be_v of_o that_o we_o join_v and_o side_n with_o god_n against_o his_o adversary_n and_o for_o his_o people_n but_o these_o be_v not_o the_o thing_n here_o intend_v further_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a because_o there_o be_v no_o faithful_a prayer_n that_o ever_o be_v make_v but_o god_n accept_v of_o it_o in_o heaven_n there_o be_v never_o one_o of_o the_o seed_n of_o jacob_n that_o ever_o put_v up_o a_o faithful_a petition_n to_o god_n but_o god_n take_v it_o in_o his_o hand_n and_o read_v it_o a_o king_n or_o any_o superior_a when_o you_o come_v with_o a_o petition_n may_v refuse_v to_o take_v it_o but_o god_n never_o refuse_v to_o take_v any_o petition_n from_o a_o faithful_a soul_n therefore_o say_v the_o psalmist_n psal_n 6.9_o the_o lord_n have_v hear_v my_o supplication_n the_o lord_n will_v receive_v my_o prayer_n he_o will_v take_v it_o and_o look_v on_o it_o and_o read_v it_o and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o he_o will_v also_o accept_v it_o and_o take_v
