it_o open_v another_o light_n in_o the_o mind_n which_o make_v they_o to_o do_v god_n will_v as_o he_o teach_v they_o and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o i_o need_v not_o to_o teach_v you_o to_o love_n for_o you_o be_v teach_v 9_o of_o god_n to_o love_v one_o another_o that_o be_v there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o necessity_n lay_v upon_o you_o therefore_o you_o must_v needs_o love_v i_o grant_v that_o sometime_o a_o thief_n may_v be_v in_o the_o high_a way_n but_o it_o be_v for_o a_o booty_n and_o a_o holy_a man_n may_v be_v out_o of_o the_o way_n he_o may_v have_v slip_v aside_o the_o way_n but_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n the_o one_o man_n set_v himself_o of_o purpose_n to_o do_v evil_a but_o the_o other_o be_v force_v unto_o evil_a unwilling_o and_o you_o shall_v know_v the_o difference_n between_o these_o two_o in_o these_o thing_n if_o a_o holy_a man_n have_v go_v beside_o the_o way_n assoon_o as_o the_o passion_n or_o temptation_n be_v once_o past_a he_o will_v the_o chief_a cause_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n yet_o notwithstanding_o answ._n it_o admit_v of_o degree_n there_o be_v divers_a degree_n according_a unto_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o thing_n conceive_v some_o sorrow_n more_o and_o some_o less_o according_a to_o the_o proportion_n of_o grace_n receive_v every_o one_o in_o one_o degree_n or_o other_o but_o the_o cause_n in_o every_o one_o proportion_v it_o according_a to_o his_o build_n second_o because_o he_o seem_v to_o love_v some_o above_o other_o he_o express_v himself_o more_o unto_o some_o then_o unto_o other_o now_o where_o god_n will_v express_v a_o large_a measure_n of_o love_n there_o he_o will_v work_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n as_o a_o father_n love_v that_o child_n best_o that_o he_o beat_v most_o three_o because_o some_o have_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n than_o other_o some_o have_v receive_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o illumination_n then_o other_o now_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o forceable_a to_o make_v a_o man_n humble_a then_o to_o be_v spiritual_o enlighten_v so_o long_o as_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n do_v not_o come_v unto_o the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o grace_n he_o will_v never_o be_v humble_v the_o seven_o question_n be_v this_o what_o be_v the_o least_o measure_n of_o humiliation_n quest._n to_o this_o i_o answer_v the_o least_o measure_n of_o humiliation_n necessary_a be_v that_o which_o make_v a_o man_n believe_v answ._n in_o christ_n viz._n make_v he_o to_o fly_v unto_o he_o and_o to_o prize_n christ_n above_o all_o thing_n as_o the_o prodigal_n he_o do_v not_o at_o the_o first_o go_v unto_o his_o father_n but_o he_o consider_v of_o it_o and_o when_o he_o see_v no_o way_n to_o escape_v than_o he_o say_v i_o will_v go_v unto_o my_o father_n so_o a_o christian_n that_o have_v the_o least_o measure_n of_o humiliation_n and_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o will_v make_v he_o to_o fly_v unto_o christ_n the_o least_o measure_n will_v give_v he_o such_o a_o sight_n of_o sin_n and_o such_o a_o glimpse_n of_o glory_n that_o he_o will_v prize_v it_o above_o all_o thing_n it_o will_v show_v he_o that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n to_o escape_v hell_n but_o by_o go_v unto_o christ_n that_o nothing_o will_v satisfy_v for_o sin_n but_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n nothing_o so_o excellent_a as_o grace_v and_o holiness_n be_v it_o will_v tell_v he_o that_o he_o that_o will_v be_v christ_n disciple_n must_v do_v these_o two_o thing_n first_o he_o must_v deny_v himself_o he_o must_v renounce_v all_o trust_n and_o confidence_n in_o any_o thing_n for_o salvation_n without_o christ_n and_o he_o must_v deny_v all_o ability_n to_o work_v that_o which_o be_v good_a without_o the_o spirit_n second_o he_o must_v take_v up_o the_o cross_n that_o be_v he_o must_v suffer_v what_o god_n will_v have_v he_o either_o in_o his_o name_n or_o body_n or_o good_n this_o be_v the_o last_o measure_n requisite_a without_o which_o thou_o will_v not_o receive_v christ_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o last_o question_n be_v it_o so_o that_o humiliation_n be_v so_o necessary_a to_o the_o use_v right_a receive_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o gospel_n this_o shall_v teach_v we_o to_o consider_v our_o condition_n and_o estate_n whether_o we_o have_v this_o condition_n in_o we_o or_o no_o let_v every_o man_n by_o this_o try_v his_o condition_n whether_o he_o have_v receive_v christ_n or_o no_o and_o this_o must_v not_o be_v outward_o but_o inward_o not_o a_o sorrow_n in_o show_n but_o in_o substance_n and_o think_v not_o that_o a_o little_a sob_a and_o sigh_v will_v serve_v the_o turn_n a_o little_a ring_n of_o the_o hand_n a_o few_o tear_n and_o a_o little_a hang_v down_o of_o the_o head_n but_o it_o must_v be_v a_o deep_a humiliation_n such_o a_o humiliation_n that_o proceed_v from_o the_o spirit_n in_o roman_n 8._o 15._o you_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o spirit_n again_o to_o fear_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n you_o 15._o once_o have_v a_o slavish_a fear_n a_o fear_n contrary_a unto_o this_o true_a fear_n which_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n but_o you_o shall_v not_o have_v it_o again_o but_o that_o humiliation_n shall_v proceed_v from_o another_o ground_n namely_o from_o the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n whereby_o you_o shall_v fear_v he_o not_o as_o a_o judge_n but_o as_o a_o father_n therefore_o let_v every_o man_n enter_v into_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o see_v whether_o this_o condition_n be_v in_o he_o or_o no_o and_o think_v not_o else_o he_o will_v not_o receive_v jesus_n christ._n to_o receive_v jesus_n 1._o christ_n be_v the_o first_o act_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o therefore_o we_o preach_v the_o gospel_n general_o unto_o all_o that_o whosoever_o will_v may_v have_v christ_n but_o you_o must_v first_o receive_v he_o and_o this_o you_o will_v not_o do_v till_o you_o be_v humble_v till_o you_o think_v you_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o christ_n till_o then_o you_o will_v think_v the_o work_n too_o great_a and_o wage_n too_o small_a as_o for_o example_n a_o woman_n must_v first_o receive_v her_o husband_n and_o be_v unite_v unto_o he_o before_o she_o can_v be_v make_v partaker_n either_o of_o his_o riches_n or_o honour_n so_o before_o a_o christian_a can_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o benefit_n of_o christ_n he_o must_v deny_v himself_o and_o cleave_v whole_o unto_o christ_n and_o receive_v he_o so_o as_o to_o be_v rule_v by_o he_o and_o to_o suffer_v for_o he_o but_o some_o man_n will_v say_v this_o be_v too_o much_o what_o object_n must_v i_o so_o receive_v christ_n that_o i_o must_v forsake_v all_o thing_n for_o he_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v no_o marvel_n though_o thou_o think_v so_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o humble_v answ._n but_o if_o thou_o be_v humble_v thou_o will_v never_o stick_v at_o any_o thing_n when_o a_o man_n be_v humble_v he_o be_v then_o in_o the_o condition_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v both_o to_o deny_v himself_o take_v up_o the_o cross_n and_o to_o follow_v christ_n when_o a_o man_n be_v humble_v than_o he_o care_v not_o to_o be_v trample_v under_o foot_n for_o christ_n to_o suffer_v disgrace_n reproach_n and_o shame_n for_o christ_n but_o till_o then_o a_o man_n will_v not_o something_n a_o man_n will_v do_v but_o not_o this_o therefore_o it_o be_v necessary_a to_o the_o receive_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o a_o man_n be_v humble_a second_o to_o receive_v the_o gospel_n be_v to_o entertain_v christ_n into_o the_o soul_n he_o that_o entertain_v 2._o christ_n so_o must_v retain_v he_o and_o continue_v with_o he_o he_o must_v not_o take_v christ_n for_o a_o day_n or_o a_o year_n but_o he_o must_v take_v christ_n as_o a_o woman_n do_v her_o husband_n for_o term_v of_o life_n nay_o after_o life_n and_o that_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n with_o such_o a_o holy_a demeanour_n of_o himself_o that_o he_o may_v not_o give_v the_o least_o occasion_n of_o evil_n that_o may_v be_v to_o christ._n you_o must_v take_v heed_n of_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n and_o you_o must_v resist_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n if_o you_o contract_v with_o christ_n you_o must_v takehee_v of_o despise_v he_o take_v heed_n of_o give_v the_o spirit_n a_o nonplus_n and_o you_o must_v continue_v in_o all_o estate_n and_o keep_v as_o the_o themselves_o from_o all_o such_o work_n on_o that_o day_n which_o may_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o keep_v they_o from_o humiliation_n for_o the_o object_n be_v hold_v long_o on_o the_o faculty_n it_o will_v before_o he_o and_o paul_n be_v ever_o humble_a in_o remember_v his_o sin_n therefore_o let_v this_o humiliation_n and_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v in_o you_o not_o like_o a_o land_n flood_n but_o like_o a_o mixture_n of_o spiritual_a joy_n hope_v and_o confidence_n that_o they_o have_v wrought_v in_o they_o by_o the_o spirit_n the_o three_o be_v this_o you_o must_v proportion_v your_o rule_n humiliation_n according_a unto_o your_o sin_n if_o your_o sin_n have_v be_v great_a sin_n than_o your_o humiliation_n must_v be_v a_o deep_a humiliation_n this_o we_o see_v in_o manasses_n as_o his_o sin_n be_v exceed_v great_a so_o his_o humiliation_n be_v exceed_v great_a it_o wrought_v in_o he_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o humiliation_n and_o so_o peter_n sin_n be_v great_a and_o his_o humiliation_n be_v great_a for_o as_o the_o sin_n be_v great_a or_o lesser_a so_o the_o humiliation_n shall_v be_v great_a or_o lesser_a because_o the_o great_a the_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a shall_v be_v the_o judgement_n for_o they_o and_o therefore_o when_o you_o can_v pass_v over_o your_o sin_n as_o little_a sin_n it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o you_o be_v not_o humble_v for_o if_o you_o be_v he_o shall_v need_v whether_o he_o will_v hold_v close_o to_o he_o or_o no_o he_o know_v not_o and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o the_o unstable_a heart_n shall_v receive_v nothing_o of_o way_n sometime_o by_o god_n own_o spirit_n answ._n sometime_o by_o satan_n first_o it_o be_v do_v by_o god_n own_o spirit_n when_o by_o it_o the_o mind_n be_v enlighten_v to_o see_v that_o he_o be_v in_o bondage_n by_o reason_n of_o sin_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o it_o be_v call_v the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n rom._n 8._o second_o and_o more_o frequent_o by_o satan_n when_o he_o by_o god_n permission_n do_v vex_v and_o terrify_v the_o soul_n of_o man_n and_o drive_v they_o to_o despair_v and_o this_o be_v call_v horror_n and_o the_o vex_v of_o the_o soul_n now_o whether_o this_o horror_n of_o conscience_n be_v wrought_v by_o god_n own_o spirit_n or_o by_o satan_n we_o may_v know_v by_o these_o four_o difference_n 1._o if_o we_o find_v any_o falsehood_n mingle_v with_o this_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n than_o it_o come_v from_o the_o devil_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n mingle_v no_o falsehood_n but_o only_o enlighten_v and_o show_v the_o truth_n light_n make_v a_o thing_n seem_v as_o it_o be_v 2._o you_o may_v discern_v of_o it_o by_o the_o affection_n it_o strike_v in_o we_o for_o that_o that_o the_o devil_n cause_v in_o we_o strike_v a_o hatred_n of_o god_n but_o that_o that_o god_n spirit_n work_v in_o we_o cause_v a_o servile_a fear_n 3._o you_o may_v know_v it_o by_o the_o extremity_n of_o anguish_n it_o cause_v god_n spirit_n work_v by_o meekness_n and_o consolation_n but_o the_o devil_n work_v by_o extremity_n of_o terror_n and_o fear_n answ._n 4._o you_o may_v know_v it_o by_o the_o manner_n of_o do_v for_o the_o devil_n do_v it_o disorderly_a sudden_o and_o violent_o without_o any_o equality_n but_o the_o spirit_n proceed_v orderly_o first_o it_o enlighten_v the_o mind_n and_o then_o it_o raise_v objection_n and_o so_o go_v on_o by_o a_o little_a and_o a_o little_a but_o the_o devil_n work_v violent_o hence_o be_v that_o that_o satan_n be_v say_v to_o buffet_v paul_n for_o all_o buffet_n betoken_v violence_n indeed_o sometime_o the_o spirit_n do_v unequal_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o satan_n work_v and_o his_o what_o be_v to_o be_v think_v of_o such_o a_o condition_n 2._o i_o answer_v that_o such_o a_o condition_n be_v simple_o answ._n in_o itself_o consider_v be_v very_o miserable_a because_o it_o estrange_v and_o draw_v the_o heart_n away_o from_o god_n yea_o and_o from_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o end_n of_o god_n work_n and_o so_o therefore_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o most_o heinous_a sin_n but_o yet_o as_o god_n use_v it_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n or_o one_o of_o the_o first_o step_n to_o faith_n and_o a_o good_a mean_n to_o subdue_v and_o weaken_v the_o stubbornness_n of_o our_o heart_n quest._n how_o may_v we_o know_v whether_o god_n intend_v this_o for_o a_o punishment_n or_o for_o a_o preparation_n of_o grace_n answ._n you_o may_v know_v it_o by_o the_o event_n for_o when_o god_n do_v it_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o creature_n then_o after_o it_o there_o follow_v grace_n but_o if_o it_o bring_v not_o grace_n after_o it_o if_o there_o be_v only_o a_o plow_a and_o no_o harvest_n the_o prick_n with_o a_o needle_n and_o no_o thread_n then_o it_o be_v a_o spark_n of_o hell_n fire_n and_o the_o very_a praludium_fw-la of_o hell_n what_o shall_v we_o then_o think_v of_o those_o that_o never_o 3._o have_v this_o horror_n and_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n their_o estate_n for_o all_o that_o may_v be_v very_o good_a for_o this_o vexation_n be_v not_o absolute_o needful_a although_o answ._n humiliation_n be_v wherefore_o if_o thou_o have_v it_o not_o seek_v not_o after_o it_o for_o god_n use_v many_o mean_n yet_o thou_o may_v take_v hence_o occasion_n the_o more_o to_o try_v thy_o estate_n whether_o come_v this_o horror_n from_o melancholy_n or_o how_o shall_v we_o disceme_v it_o from_o melancholy_a 4._o if_o thou_o apprehend_v sin_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n answ._n than_o it_o be_v horror_n of_o conscience_n for_o when_o the_o faculty_n be_v pinch_v upon_o the_o right_a object_n to_o wit_n sin_n then_o it_o be_v no_o melancholy_a but_o in_o horror_n the_o conscience_n be_v pitch_v upon_o the_o right_n obeject_v viz._n sin_n for_o that_o be_v the_o proper_a object_n of_o the_o conscience_n as_o for_o melancholy_a that_o be_v not_o grief_n but_o extend_v grief_n as_o varnish_n be_v not_o colour_n but_o do_v extend_v the_o colour_n indeed_o melancholy_a may_v be_v join_v with_o it_o and_o draw_v it_o forth_o but_o it_o come_v not_o whole_o from_o that_o but_o from_o some_o other_o inward_a principle_n as_o the_o fatness_n of_o the_o soil_n may_v bring_v forth_o the_o corn_n the_o soon_o but_o yet_o that_o be_v not_o the_o cause_n thereof_o but_o the_o root_n that_o it_o have_v again_o i_o answer_v that_o all_o disease_n be_v heal_v by_o their_o contrary_n if_o that_o this_o be_v melancholy_a then_o may_v it_o be_v heal_v by_o merry_a company_n which_o be_v the_o contrary_a unto_o it_o but_o if_o it_o be_v the_o horror_n of_o conscience_n then_o must_v it_o only_o be_v heal_v by_o the_o apprehension_n of_o god_n love_n in_o jesus_n christ._n whether_o may_v it_o befall_v the_o child_n of_o god_n to_o 5._o his_o weakness_n more_o than_o to_o be_v weak_a in_o spiritual_a knowledge_n and_o yet_o you_o must_v know_v that_o a_o man_n may_v have_v much_o knowledge_n as_o worldly_a knowledge_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o divine_a truth_n and_o yet_o be_v but_o weak_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n for_o there_o be_v a_o knowledge_n of_o art_n which_o fill_v the_o brain_n with_o knowledge_n but_o the_o spirit_n go_v no_o further_o that_o be_v it_o do_v not_o sanctify_v that_o knowledge_n in_o the_o heart_n again_o there_o be_v a_o knowledge_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v a_o operative_a work_a knowledge_n which_o go_v with_o this_o other_o knowledge_n and_o lead_v it_o to_o sanctification_n and_o be_v practical_a but_o yet_o i_o say_v you_o must_v know_v before_o you_o can_v be_v strong_a there_o must_v be_v some_o proportion_n between_o the_o spiritual_a knowledge_n and_o the_o spiritual_a strength_n as_o for_o example_n one_o man_n eat_v and_o be_v fat_a another_o man_n eat_v and_o be_v still_o lean_a so_o some_o have_v asmuch_o as_o other_o have_v and_o yet_o be_v not_o so_o strong_a as_o other_o and_o yet_o we_o say_v fatness_n come_v by_o eat_v so_o do_v the_o strength_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o knowledge_n and_o where_o the_o lord_n work_v by_o his_o spirit_n by_o his_o spirit_n i_o say_v the_o most_o knowledge_n there_o be_v most_o strength_n therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o labour_n for_o a_o full_a measure_n of_o save_a knowledge_n for_o a_o work_n purge_a convince_a operative_a and_o powerful_a knowledge_n and_o this_o i_o do_v not_o only_o speak_v unto_o you_o that_o be_v weak_a but_o also_o unto_o you_o that_o be_v strong_a that_o you_o be_v careful_a to_o add_v unto_o your_o knowledge_n for_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o you_o do_v not_o grow_v in_o grace_n but_o because_o you_o be_v not_o careful_a to_o add_v more_o knowledge_n unto_o that_o which_o you_o have_v it_o may_v be_v you_o pick_v some_o good_a thing_n from_o some_o sermon_n or_o good_a book_n but_o present_o you_o forget_v it_o you_o do_v not_o make_v it_o your_o own_o by_o meditation_n and_o so_o it_o do_v you_o no_o good_a but_o if_o you_o will_v be_v careful_a to_o add_v unto_o it_o you_o will_v grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n than_o you_o do_v and_o here_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o we_o builder_n other_o builder_n when_o they_o have_v build_v a_o house_n the_o owner_n look_v to_o it_o himself_o and_o keep_v it_o in_o repair_n but_o when_o we_o have_v do_v what_o we_o can_v to_o build_v you_o up_o in_o the_o inward_a man_n and_o think_v that_o you_o will_v put_v to_o your_o hand_n yourselves_o when_o we_o be_v to_o further_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n you_o begin_v to_o pull_v down_o your_o build_n again_o yourselves_o by_o your_o loose_a life_n by_o follow_v your_o pleasure_n your_o sport_v and_o game_n and_o profane_v of_o the_o lord_n day_n therefore_o you_o must_v labour_v to_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n if_o you_o will_v grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n the_o second_o mean_n to_o be_v use_v if_o you_o will_v mean_n grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n be_v this_o you_o must_v be_v diligent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n as_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v the_o hand_n of_o the_o diligent_a make_v rich_a as_o diligence_n in_o a_o call_n make_v rich_a so_o where_o there_o be_v much_o diligence_n in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n there_o be_v much_o strength_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n but_o no_o man_n get_v spiritual_a strength_n save_v they_o that_o be_v diligent_a and_o therefore_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o man_n be_v not_o strong_a in_o this_o spiritual_a strength_n because_o like_o the_o sluggard_n they_o be_v not_o diligent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n they_o take_v no_o pain_n for_o grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o they_o get_v no_o increase_n for_o according_a unto_o the_o proportion_n of_o your_o pain_n so_o be_v the_o inward_a man_n strengthen_v and_o as_o you_o use_v they_o more_o diligent_o so_o you_o find_v the_o strength_n of_o they_o more_o operative_a and_o powerful_a for_o it_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o body_n if_o you_o be_v not_o diligent_a and_o careful_a to_o feed_v the_o body_n it_o will_v wither_v and_o consume_v away_o and_o grow_v weak_a so_o if_o you_o feed_v not_o the_o soul_n diligent_o and_o use_v the_o mean_n constant_o you_o will_v breed_v weakness_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o more_o secure_a and_o remiss_a you_o be_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n the_o weak_a you_o be_v it_o may_v be_v you_o think_v it_o will_v not_o weaken_v you_o to_o neglect_v private_a prayer_n but_o omit_v it_o once_o and_o it_o will_v make_v you_o careless_a and_o the_o more_o you_o neglect_v the_o more_o unfit_a and_o undisposed_a you_o will_v find_v yourselves_o so_o you_o may_v think_v you_o may_v profane_v one_o sabbath_n neglect_v therein_o the_o duty_n require_v and_o man_n will_v not_o grow_v strong_a these_o be_v the_o food_n that_o the_o inward_a man_n feed_v upon_o it_o be_v with_o the_o inward_a man_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o plant_n if_o you_o will_v have_v a_o plant_n to_o grow_v than_o you_o must_v set_v it_o in_o a_o good_a soil_n you_o must_v dig_v about_o it_o and_o dung_n it_o but_o if_o you_o be_v careless_a where_o you_o set_v it_o it_o will_v not_o prosper_v and_o thrive_v even_o so_o if_o you_o do_v not_o add_v fatness_n of_o soil_n unto_o the_o beginning_n of_o grace_n if_o you_o do_v not_o use_v all_o the_o mean_n as_o the_o communion_n of_o saint_n and_o prayer_n the_o inward_a man_n will_v not_o grow_v strong_a but_o wither_v and_o die_v you_o will_v be_v dwarf_n in_o grace_n and_o holiness_n the_o second_o rule_n if_o you_o will_v have_v the_o mean_n effectual_a be_v this_o you_o must_v look_v that_o you_o perform_v rule_n holy_a duty_n strong_o for_o then_o the_o mean_n strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n when_o they_o be_v do_v with_o strong_a affection_n when_o he_o use_v they_o not_o remisse_o and_o cold_o for_o remiss_a action_n weakness_n the_o habit_n as_o for_o example_n take_v water_n that_o be_v exceed_o hot_a and_o put_v cold_a water_n to_o it_o and_o you_o will_v weaken_v it_o so_o perform_v holy_a duty_n and_o use_v the_o mean_n of_o grace_n remiss_o and_o they_o will_v weaken_v the_o habit_n to_o good_a it_o will_v work_v a_o indisposition_n in_o the_o soul_n therefore_o do_v they_o strong_o with_o much_o zeal_n and_o strong_a
