whole_o in_o order_n to_o the_o second_o and_o both_o together_o constitute_v spiritual_a wisdom_n for_o god_n have_v not_o reveal_v his_o will_n and_o make_v know_v our_o duty_n to_o we_o to_o make_v we_o more_o learned_a but_o to_o make_v we_o more_o good_a not_o to_o enlarge_v our_o understanding_n or_o entertain_v our_o mind_n with_o the_o fine_a notion_n of_o virtue_n but_o to_o form_n and_o govern_v our_o life_n therefore_o god_n have_v so_o order_v thing_n that_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v happy_a for_o any_o speculation_n unless_o they_o be_v draw_v down_o into_o practice_n for_o there_o be_v no_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n that_o a_o man_n may_v soon_o come_v at_o than_o the_o knowledge_n of_o religion_n because_o the_o great_a part_n of_o it_o have_v a_o foundation_n in_o the_o common_a reason_n of_o mankind_n and_o as_o for_o that_o which_o be_v reveal_v it_o be_v only_o new_a argument_n to_o be_v good_a and_o virtuous_a now_o this_o gospel_n make_v the_o knowledge_n and_o descend_v and_o the_o flood_n come_v the_o wind_n blue_a and_o beat_v upon_o that_o house_n and_o it_o fall_v happiness_n the_o practice_n of_o religion_n be_v a_o necessary_a condition_n for_o happiness_n as_o god_n have_v make_v the_o practice_n of_o religion_n a_o necessary_a condition_n of_o our_o happiness_n so_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n do_v make_v it_o a_o necessary_a condition_n for_o it_o for_o our_o utmost_a happiness_n be_v to_o consist_v in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n and_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o person_n shall_v have_v communion_n one_o with_o another_o that_o be_v not_o of_o a_o temper_n we_o must_v be_v like_a to_o god_n if_o we_o will_v be_v happy_a now_o nothing_o can_v make_v we_o like_a unto_o god_n but_o holiness_n and_o virtue_n therefore_o man_n be_v not_o wise_a who_o think_v they_o can_v be_v partaker_n of_o happiness_n upon_o any_o other_o account_n knowledge_n indeed_o itself_o be_v a_o divine_a perfection_n but_o yet_o that_o alone_o do_v not_o render_v a_o man_n like_o to_o god_n neither_o do_v that_o alone_o qualify_v he_o for_o his_o presence_n for_o if_o a_o man_n have_v the_o understanding_n of_o a_o angel_n only_o two_o different_a modes_n of_o revelation_n for_o he_o do_v as_o well_o reveal_v himself_o to_o we_o when_o he_o give_v we_o reason_n to_o understand_v his_o will_n as_o he_o do_v when_o he_o send_v a_o messenger_n from_o heaven_n to_o declare_v his_o mind_n since_o than_o god_n light_v up_o in_o we_o this_o candle_n of_o our_o reason_n why_o may_v he_o not_o give_v new_a light_n to_o it_o especial_o when_o it_o begin_v to_o burn_v with_o a_o die_a and_o languish_a flame_n how_o agreeable_a be_v this_o to_o the_o divine_a goodness_n and_o to_o that_o infinite_a care_n it_o take_v of_o the_o welfare_n and_o happiness_n of_o reasonable_a being_n to_o conduct_v and_o enlighten_v they_o with_o divine_a revelation_n chief_o when_o the_o grope_a world_n have_v so_o bewilder_v itself_o in_o a_o endless_a maze_n of_o error_n and_o be_v so_o lose_v in_o its_o own_o wander_n when_o no_o human_a understanding_n or_o wisdom_n can_v show_v the_o way_n then_o to_o spring_v a_o light_n arise_v these_o be_v the_o rub_v in_o our_o way_n which_o make_v a_o virtuous_a course_n so_o difficult_a at_o first_o because_o to_o cast_v off_o old_a habit_n of_o vice_n and_o folly_n to_o which_o they_o have_v be_v long_o accustom_v be_v that_o at_o which_o man_n be_v general_o gall_v for_o a_o state_n of_o vice_n and_o of_o virtue_n be_v not_o like_o two_o way_n that_o be_v just_o part_v by_o a_o line_n so_o as_o that_o a_o man_n may_v step_v out_o of_o the_o one_o full_a into_o the_o other_o when_o and_o how_o he_o please_v but_o they_o be_v like_o two_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o two_o very_a distant_a place_n one_o where_o happiness_n be_v the_o other_o where_o destruction_n so_o that_o they_o be_v as_o far_o separate_v as_o heaven_n and_o hell_n be_v for_o the_o far_a a_o man_n have_v travel_v in_o the_o way_n of_o vice_n he_o be_v at_o the_o great_a distance_n from_o those_o of_o virtue_n so_o that_o it_o require_v time_n and_o much_o strive_v too_o to_o pass_v from_o the_o one_o to_o the_o other_o it_o be_v a_o long_a and_o severe_a conflict_n to_o master_n evil_a habit_n the_o temptation_n of_o the_o world_n and_o of_o the_o flesh_n will_v rally_v and_o make_v head_n again_o after_o they_o have_v be_v beat_v off_o notwithstanding_o these_o difficulty_n the_o seed_n of_o virtue_n under_o the_o influence_n and_o care_n of_o the_o divine_a spirit_n will_v get_v the_o better_a and_o grow_v up_o to_o such_o a_o strength_n as_o will_v conquer_v they_o it_o be_v indeed_o a_o very_a unpleasant_a sight_n for_o a_o vicious_a person_n to_o look_v into_o himself_o or_o to_o consider_v on_o his_o bad_a course_n therefore_o he_o labour_v all_o he_o can_v to_o stifle_v his_o reason_n that_o he_o may_v not_o think_v himself_o a_o vicious_a person_n be_v a_n very_a unpleasant_a sight_n to_o himself_o what_o will_v be_v the_o sad_a issue_n of_o a_o ungodly_a life_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o all_o man_n find_v some_o bitterness_n in_o cast_v off_o their_o lust_n according_a to_o the_o progress_n they_o have_v make_v in_o vice_n for_o if_o we_o intend_v to_o lead_v a_o virtuous_a life_n we_o must_v consider_v that_o many_o virtue_n be_v to_o be_v practise_v before_o the_o contrary_a vice_n will_v be_v subdue_v we_o have_v many_o irregular_a passion_n to_o bring_v into_o order_n and_o must_v root_v out_o all_o the_o power_n of_o evil_a custom_n we_o have_v a_o body_n of_o sin_n to_o put_v off_o which_o cling_v close_o to_o we_o and_o be_v bind_v to_o cleanse_v ourselves_o from_o all_o filthiness_n both_o of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n and_o to_o perfect_a holiness_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n to_o increase_v and_o improve_v our_o virtue_n that_o be_v add_v to_o our_o faith_n knowledge_n temperance_n patience_n brotherly_a kindness_n and_o charity_n to_o abound_v in_o all_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n which_o be_v by_o jesus_n christ_n to_o the_o praise_n and_o glory_n of_o god_n this_o change_n can_v be_v wrought_v without_o some_o trouble_n this_o new-birth_n can_v be_v bring_v about_o without_o some_o bitter_a pang_n a_o thorough_a reformation_n of_o manner_n be_v a_o work_n that_o require_v much_o time_n deliberation_n and_o labour_n to_o effect_v it_o however_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v discourage_v for_o so_o soon_o as_o we_o have_v begin_v a_o good_a course_n of_o life_n spirit_n a_o good_a course_n of_o life_n be_v always_o under_o the_o influence_n of_o god_n spirit_n we_o be_v in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o god_n will_v help_v we_o in_o and_o if_o we_o pursue_v our_o advantage_n we_o shall_v every_o day_n gain_v ground_n and_o the_o work_n will_v grow_v easy_a upon_o our_o hand_n and_o though_o we_o may_v be_v a_o little_a dishearten_v at_o first_o at_o the_o hardship_n of_o virtue_n yet_o after_o a_o little_a while_o we_o shall_v be_v enable_v to_o run_v the_o way_n of_o god_n commandment_n with_o pleasure_n for_o nothing_o be_v more_o hurtful_a to_o a_o virtuous_a and_o holy_a life_n than_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n require_v those_o thing_n of_o we_o that_o he_o have_v not_o give_v we_o strength_n to_o perform_v whereas_o god_n take_v delight_n in_o bestow_v the_o gift_n of_o his_o spirit_n upon_o we_o nothing_o be_v more_o please_v to_o he_o than_o that_o we_o shall_v partake_v of_o his_o divine_a nature_n and_o be_v make_v holy_a as_o he_o be_v holy_a that_o we_o shall_v be_v bring_v back_o to_o that_o state_n wherein_o we_o be_v when_o we_o come_v out_o of_o his_o hand_n therefore_o one_o of_o the_o great_a discouragement_n to_o a_o virtuous_a life_n be_v a_o false_a
