conscience_n of_o guilt_n verse_n 3.4_o and_o partly_o with_o the_o delay_n of_o comfort_n and_o a_o outgate_n verse_n 5.6_o after_o that_o i_o say_v the_o psalmist_n come_v to_o get_v some_o issue_n and_o outgate_v whereof_o he_o give_v not_o a_o direct_a and_o express_a account_n but_o any_o good_a he_o have_v get_v he_o present_o make_v it_o appear_v in_o good_a news_n to_o israel_n he_o have_v a_o exhortation_n to_o they_o to_o hope_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o have_v motive_n and_o argument_n press_v his_o exhortation_n which_o be_v take_v partly_o from_o what_o be_v in_o god_n to_o the_o behoof_n of_o his_o israel_n for_o with_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v mercy_n etc._n etc._n and_o partly_o from_o what_o he_o will_v let_v forth_o of_o this_o for_o their_o good_a and_o behoove_v not_o only_o be_v mercy_n and_o plenteous_a redemption_n with_o he_o but_o he_o shall_v redeem_v israel_n from_o all_o his_o iniquity_n for_o the_o exhortation_n i_o speak_v to_o it_o at_o length_n and_o at_o the_o last_o occasion_n i_o break_v in_o upon_o the_o motive_n the_o instruction_n to_o be_v gather_v from_o which_o i_o reduce_v to_o two_o general_a head_n 1._o something_o suppose_v concern_v they_o that_o be_v put_v to_o hope_n and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n and_o 2._o something_o propose_v concern_v such_o as_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_n and_o as_o a_o ground_n to_o their_o hope_n for_o the_o first_o that_o which_o be_v suppose_v in_o the_o word_n it_o may_v again_o be_v reduce_v to_o these_o two_o head_n of_o doctrine_n 1._o that_o the_o man_n call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n be_v one_o that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o misery_n in_o himself_o and_o be_v put_v to_o look_v out_o to_o what_o be_v in_o god_n or_o with_o he_o to_o do_v his_o turn_n for_o with_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v mercy_n that_o there_o be_v mercy_n with_o god_n imply_n that_o the_o man_n that_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n be_v in_o himself_o miserable_a and_o put_v to_o look_v out_o to_o god_n for_o mercy_n and_o so_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o bless_a and_o sure_a character_n of_o a_o person_n that_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n that_o he_o be_v keep_v humble_a not_o conceity_n nor_o dream_v of_o any_o good_a in_o himself_o and_o the_o near_o he_o be_v to_o the_o dust_n he_o have_v the_o more_o warrant_n to_o hope_n for_o the_o man_n that_o spear_n the_o right_a gate_n to_o hope_n be_v he_o that_o lam._n 3.29_o put_v his_o mouth_n in_o the_o dust_n if_o so_o be_v there_o may_v be_v hope_n he_o creep_v low_a in_o the_o dust_n to_o seek_v encouragement_n to_o hope_n and_o the_o man_n that_o be_v call_v to_o live_v by_o faith_n be_v oppose_v to_o the_o man_n who_o soul_n be_v lift_v up_o in_o he_o and_o consequent_o to_o the_o man_n who_o heart_n be_v not_o upright_o in_o he_o hab._n 2.4_o and_o further_o the_o man_n that_o be_v call_v to_o hope_n and_o allow_v to_o hope_n in_o the_o humble_v sense_n of_o his_o misery_n he_o be_v put_v to_o look_v without_o himself_o to_o what_o be_v in_o god_n or_o with_o god_n for_o he_o he_o be_v call_v to_o hope_v on_o the_o account_n of_o mercy_n in_o relation_n to_o his_o misery_n it_o intimat_n that_o the_o humble_a sensible_a man_n the_o israel_n of_o god_n can_v never_o be_v undo_v so_o long_o as_o god_n be_v to_o the_o fore_n and_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o he_o to_o do_v his_o turn_n though_o he_o be_v miserable_a and_o want_n that_o he_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o yet_o if_o it_o be_v in_o god_n he_o shall_v not_o want_v if_o mercy_n be_v in_o and_o with_o god_n he_o be_v make_v up_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o misery_n to_o this_o i_o have_v speak_v already_o and_o shall_v not_o repeat_v i_o proceed_v to_o the_o second_o observation_n employ_v in_o that_o which_o be_v suppose_v concern_v the_o man_n that_o be_v put_v to_o hope_n and_o warrant_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n that_o not_o only_o be_v he_o simple_o miserable_a and_o need_v mercy_n but_o he_o be_v under_o such_o a_o bondage_n of_o sin_n and_o misery_n as_o he_o can_v extricat_fw-la himself_o out_o of_o it_o except_o god_n interpose_v he_o need_v not_o only_a mercy_n in_o god_n but_o redemption_n and_o plenteous_a redemption_n in_o god_n to_o rid_v he_o out_o of_o these_o bond_n wherein_o he_o be_v fetter_v and_o bind_v and_o out_o of_o which_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o deliver_v himself_o although_o the_o consideration_n of_o sin_n will_v come_v in_o to_o be_v speak_v to_o on_o the_o next_o observation_n by_o itself_o yet_o i_o shall_v on_o this_o touch_n a_o little_a in_o general_n both_o on_o the_o bondage_n of_o sin_n and_o misery_n under_o which_o the_o israel_n of_o god_n be_v suppon_v to_o be_v lie_v as_o for_o sin_n all_o man_n by_o nature_n be_v bind_v slave_n to_o it_o they_o be_v hurry_v away_o with_o every_o impetuous_a blast_n of_o temptation_n that_o blow_v upon_o their_o corruption_n but_o it_o be_v the_o israel_n of_o god_n that_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n that_o feel_v this_o bondage_n hence_o the_o apostle_n rom._n 7.19_o say_v the_o good_a that_o i_o will_v i_o do_v not_o but_o the_o evil_a that_o i_o will_v not_o that_o i_o do_v and_o he_o find_v a_o law_n in_o his_o member_n war_a against_o the_o law_n of_o his_o mind_n lead_v he_o captive_a to_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n on_o which_o account_n he_o cry_v out_o o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n there_o be_v a_o captivity_n indeed_o under_o sin_n and_o he_o tell_v the_o galatian_n chap._n 5.17_o that_o the_o flesh_n lu_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n against_o the_o flesh_n and_o these_o two_o be_v contrary_a one_o to_o another_o so_o that_o they_o can_v do_v the_o thing_n they_o will_v so_o the_o israel_n of_o god_n be_v under_o a_o bondage_n of_o sin_n when_o they_o will_v do_v good_a as_o the_o same_o apostle_n have_v it_o ill_o be_v present_a with_o they_o and_o for_o the_o bondage_n of_o their_o misery_n the_o scripture_n be_v so_o full_a anent_o it_o and_o the_o experience_n of_o the_o saint_n so_o ample_o confirm_v it_o that_o it_o be_v needless_a to_o stand_v on_o particular_a proof_n and_o instance_n of_o it_o how_o often_o be_v they_o put_v to_o that_o psal_n 107.11_o because_o they_o rebel_v therefore_o he_o bring_v down_o their_o heart_n with_o sorrow_n and_o labour_n they_o fall_v and_o there_o be_v none_o to_o help_v in_o the_o application_n of_o this_o i_o shall_v speak_v a_o word_n first_o to_o the_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a and_o then_o to_o god_n israel_n who_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o he_o notwithstanding_o this_o bondage_n they_o be_v under_o for_o the_o first_o to_o wit_n the_o wicked_a they_o will_v from_o this_o look_n on_o it_o as_o a_o sad_a character_n to_o know_v little_a and_o be_v as_o little_a sensible_a of_o their_o bondage_n through_o sin_n and_o misery_n they_o look_v on_o a_o licentious_a way_n of_o live_v in_o sin_n when_o they_o have_v eye_n full_a of_o adultery_n and_o that_o can_v cease_v from_o sin_n as_o it_o be_v 2_o pet._n 2.14_o when_o sin_n reign_v in_o their_o mortal_a body_n and_o they_o obey_v it_o in_o the_o lust_n thereof_o and_o they_o yield_v their_o member_n as_o instrument_n of_o unrighteousness_n unto_o sin_n rom._n 6.12_o when_o they_o give_v themselves_o up_o to_o work_v all_o uncleanness_n with_o greediness_n ephes_n 4.19_o they_o look_v upon_o that_o as_o their_o liberty_n and_o they_o be_v never_o out_o of_o bond_n except_o when_o they_o be_v glut_v themselves_o with_o sin_n they_o sleep_v not_o except_o they_o do_v ill_a o_o that_o such_o know_v what_o a_o madness_n and_o distraction_n they_o be_v under_o idle_a time_n a_o thrifty_a person_n may_v make_v much_o gain_n and_o advantage_n out_o of_o these_o delay_n so_o much_o for_o what_o be_v suppon_v here_o that_o the_o saint_n even_o in_o their_o sincere_a and_o serious_a seek_v of_o god_n be_v exercise_v with_o delay_n as_o to_o comfort_v or_o a_o out-gate_n under_o difficulty_n follow_v in_o the_o 2._o place_n that_o which_o be_v propose_v that_o when_o he_o be_v put_v to_o wait_v he_o do_v wait_v hence_o observe_v that_o in_o the_o case_n of_o delay_n whether_o for_o comfort_n or_o a_o out-gate_n it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o saint_n to_o wait_v on_o this_o will_v take_v in_o all_o that_o follow_v in_o these_o two_o verse_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v first_o explain_v the_o import_n of_o it_o and_o then_o press_v the_o reasonablness_n equity_n and_o advantage_n of_o it_o for_o the_o import_n of_o this_o duty_n of_o wait_v a_o waiter_n on_o god_n when_o he_o be_v delay_v he_o must_v have_v these_o three_o thing_n short_o 1._o he_o must_v have_v somewhat_o to_o be_v the_o basis_n and_o ground_n of_o his_o wait_v and_o that_o be_v the_o faith_n of_o the_o saint_n which_o prepare_v the_o way_n for_o the_o patience_n of_o the_o saint_n and_o so_o it_o follow_v after_o in_o the_o text._n that_o a_o soul_n that_o wait_v on_o god_n hope_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o meaning_n of_o this_o short_o be_v that_o a_o waiter_n on_o god_n when_o he_o be_v delay_v must_v not_o judge_v of_o god_n by_o what_o be_v present_a but_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n so_o long_o as_o god_n give_v he_o not_o another_o bible_n and_o that_o will_v never_o be_v whatever_o be_v his_o present_a case_n he_o must_v still_o look_v for_o better_a if_o he_o have_v a_o cloud_n he_o must_v look_v that_o it_o will_v scatter_v if_o he_o have_v a_o night_n he_o must_v look_v for_o a_o day_n on_o the_o back_n of_o that_o night_n as_o isai_n 8.17_o i_o will_v wait_v on_o the_o lord_n that_o hide_v his_o face_n from_o the_o house_n of_o jacob_n and_o i_o will_v look_v for_o he_o though_o he_o hide_v his_o face_n at_o present_a i_o will_v look_v for_o better_a thing_n from_o he_o and_o mic._n 7.7_o i_o will_v look_v not_o only_o a_o sin_n in_o they_o but_o a_o shame_n to_o look_v upon_o their_o posture_n in_o wait_v they_o wait_v upon_o god_n as_o if_o they_o never_o have_v a_o day_n to_o do_v well_o in_o his_o aught_o therefore_o in_o the_o 3._o place_n i_o say_v in_o wait_v you_o will_v beware_v of_o fret_v quarrel_a despondency_n of_o take_v the_o snuff_n in_o your_o passion_n and_o in_o wait_v study_v patience_n meekness_n and_o calmness_n of_o spirit_n to_o do_v it_o sweet_o this_o be_v the_o perfect_a work_n of_o patience_n which_o christ_n command_v by_o his_o own_o practice_n mat._n 11.29_o say_v that_o these_o be_v the_o idle_v folk_n and_o foreslow_v their_o own_o mercy_n but_o 2._o as_o duty_n be_v the_o great_a business_n so_o duty_n acceptable_a to_o god_n be_v attainable_a in_o the_o worst_a of_o time_n in_o the_o low_a of_o condition_n i_o need_v not_o stand_v on_o the_o general_a how_o its_o god_n mercy_n to_o his_o people_n that_o they_o may_v well_o be_v deprive_v of_o comfort_n or_o comfortable_a issue_n but_o they_o be_v not_o put_v out_o of_o service_n they_o can_v never_o want_v acceptable_a work_n to_o put_v their_o hand_n unto_o and_o if_o they_o be_v turn_v idle_a from_o the_o work_n of_o their_o call_v and_o station_n their_o idleness_n be_v a_o work_n with_o submission_n to_o god_n but_o that_o which_o i_o be_o upon_o be_v that_o the_o difficulty_n of_o the_o lord_n servant_n and_o people_n be_v never_o so_o great_a but_o duty_n acceptable_a to_o god_n be_v attainable_a my_o soul_n wait_v say_v the_o psalmist_n he_o win_v at_o it_o i_o confess_v time_n and_o dispensation_n may_v soon_o fall_v forth_o to_o be_v such_o that_o hypocrite_n will_v think_v duty_n to_o be_v impossible_a isa_n 33.14_o the_o sinner_n in_o zion_n be_v afraid_a
