conscience_n a_o tender_a quick_a enlighten_v and_o inlivened_a conscience_n be_v the_o only_a point_n upon_o which_o we_o must_v erect_v the_o practical_a rule_n of_o our_o christian_a compass_n mind_n that_o therefore_o herein_o imitate_v that_o great_a pilot_n paul_n labour_v always_o to_o have_v a_o conscience_n void_a of_o offence_n towards_o god_n and_o man_n that_o
with_o he_o you_o may_v say_v we_o trust_v we_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n heb._n 13.8_o indeed_o without_o this_o there_o be_v no_o trust_n to_o those_o rule_n what_o be_v the_o best_a rule_n if_o man_n make_v no_o conscience_n of_o they_o a_o paint_a compass_n upon_o the_o leaf_n of_o the_o book_n be_v of_o no_o use_n to_o steer_v by_o it_o must_v be_v a_o erect_a compass_n set_v on_o a_o needle_n which_o stir_v and_o move_v by_o which_o our_o ship_n at_o sea_n be_v to_o be_v guide_v and_o cun_v and_o write_v rule_n though_o never_o so_o full_a or_o few_o be_v of_o no_o profit_n if_o they_o be_v not_o lay_v upon_o the_o conscience_n and_o that_o conscience_n quick_a and_o tender_a remember_v therefore_o this_o as_o a_o additional_a yet_o fundamental_a point_n that_o if_o ever_o you_o will_v be_v the_o better_a for_o the_o former_a compass_n you_o must_v make_v conscience_n of_o the_o fame_n eye_v it_o therefore_o and_o out_o of_o conscience_n unto_o god_n endeavour_n to_o steer_v according_a to_o it_o in_o every_o point_n of_o thy_o compass_n eye_n god_n as_o the_o main_a and_o out_o of_o conscience_n unto_o he_o carry_v thy_o thyself_o in_o all_o thing_n as_o near_o as_o possible_a according_a to_o this_o compass_n then_o may_v thou_o rejoice_v and_o expect_v that_o god_n upon_o thy_o endeavour_n shall_v speak_v unto_o thou_o well_o do_v steer_v away_o or_o steer_v thus_o and_o certain_o it_o be_v no_o small_a rejoice_v in_o those_o thing_n to_o have_v the_o testimony_n of_o our_o conscience_n that_o in_o all_o simplicity_n and_o godly_a sincerity_n by_o may_v retain_v it_o wherefore_o do_v as_o our_o sea-boy_n do_v at_o first_o con_n over_o this_o compass_n again_o and_o again_o get_v it_o into_o the_o head_n nay_o into_o the_o heart_n that_o when_o thou_o be_v any_o where_n though_o in_o the_o dark_a or_o deep_a and_o can_v not_o have_v the_o help_n of_o large_a discourse_n these_o thing_n may_v be_v in_o thy_o memory_n to_o help_v thou_o here_o to_o steer_v and_o carry_v thyself_o upon_o all_o occasion_n i_o will_v not_o say_v if_o thou_o remember_v these_o thing_n thou_o need_v no_o more_o but_o this_o i_o do_v humble_o assure_v thou_o of_o if_o thou_o remember_v these_o thing_n and_o do_v they_o thou_o shall_v not_o miscarry_v but_o safe_o arrive_v at_o the_o port_n of_o eternal_a felicity_n when_o thou_o shall_v have_v cause_n to_o spiritual_a seaman_n be_v to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o now_o my_o meditation_n shall_v be_v of_o two_o sort_n viz._n some_o meditation_n of_o a_o more_o single_a simple_a nature_n and_o other_o of_o a_o mix_v such_o as_o we_o call_v miscellaneous_a fix_v and_o simple_a meditation_n be_v such_o as_o may_v arise_v from_o some_o particular_a special_a text_n of_o scripture_n which_o concern_v seaman_n of_o this_o sort_n i_o shall_v only_o instance_n in_o two_o first_o that_o of_o psalm_n 77.19_o thy_o way_n be_v in_o the_o sea_n and_o thy_o path_n in_o the_o mighty_a water_n this_o scripture_n indeed_o be_v use_v in_o a_o spiritual_a sense_n with_o reference_n to_o the_o secret_a unknown_a way_n of_o god_n in_o his_o act_n in_o the_o world_n and_o in_o his_o deal_n with_o his_o saint_n but_o yet_o it_o relate_v unto_o and_o be_v speak_v of_o god_n in_o allusion_n to_o the_o literal_a sea_n and_o water_n where_o god_n make_v his_o way_n for_o he_o walk_v and_o be_v in_o the_o deep_n as_o on_o the_o dry_a hence_o meditate_v thus_o 1._o why_o shall_v i_o fear_v danger_n more_o or_o sin_n less_o at_o sea_n then_o on_o the_o land_n the_o lord_n be_v here_o even_o in_o these_o mighty_a water_n amid_o all_o those_o roll_a wave_n he_o walk_v and_o rule_n then_o though_o i_o steer_v in_o the_o mighty_a ocean_n yet_o i_o will_v fear_v no_o evil_n for_o god_n be_v with_o i_o
