purpose_n to_o enhance_v our_o guilt_n and_o heighten_v our_o eternal_a damnation_n no_o no_o my_o friend_n god_n be_v love_n and_o he_o have_v no_o pleasure_n in_o the_o ruin_n of_o his_o creature_n if_o they_o abuse_v his_o goodness_n and_o turn_v his_o grace_n into_o wantonness_n and_o thereby_o plunge_v themselves_o into_o the_o great_a depth_n of_o guilt_n and_o misery_n this_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o their_o obstinate_a wickedness_n and_o not_o the_o design_n of_o those_o benefit_n which_o he_o bestow_v if_o these_o consideration_n have_v once_o beget_v in_o our_o heart_n a_o real_a love_n and_o affection_n towards_o almighty_a god_n that_o will_v easy_o lead_v we_o unto_o the_o other_o branch_n of_o religion_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v need_v say_v the_o less_o unto_o they_o have_v for_o those_o that_o do_v any_o way_n belong_v to_o the_o person_n who_o we_o love_v how_o glad_o we_o lay_v hold_v on_o every_o opportunity_n to_o gratify_v the_o child_n or_o servant_n of_o price_n for_o their_o redemption_n again_o as_o all_o man_n stand_v in_o a_o near_a relation_n they_o to_o god_n so_o they_o have_v still_o so_o much_o of_o his_o image_n stamp_v on_o they_o as_o some_o this_o image_n be_v more_o eminent_a and_o conspicuous_a and_o we_o can_v discern_v the_o lovely_a treat_v of_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n and_o though_o in_o other_o it_o be_v miserable_o sully_v and_o deface_v yet_o be_v it_o not_o altogether_o raze_v some_o lineament_n at_o least_o do_v still_o remain_v all_o man_n be_v endue_v with_o rational_a and_o immortal_a soul_n with_o understanding_n and_o will_n capable_a of_o the_o high_a and_o most_o excellent_a thing_n and_o if_o they_o be_v at_o present_a disorder_a and_o put_v out_o of_o tune_n by_o wickedness_n and_o folly_n so_o noble_a and_o divine_a a_o creature_n as_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n to_o be_v sink_v and_o immerse_v in_o brutish_a and_o sensual_a lust_n or_o amuse_v with_o airy_a and_o fantastical_a delight_n and_o so_o to_o lose_v the_o relish_n of_o solid_a and_o spiritual_a pleasure_n that_o the_o beast_n shall_v be_v feed_v and_o pamper_a and_o the_o man_n and_o the_o christian_a be_v starve_v in_o we_o do_v we_o but_o mind_n who_o we_o be_v and_o for_o what_o we_o be_v make_v this_o will_v teach_v we_o in_o a_o right_a sense_n to_o reverence_n and_o stand_v in_o awe_n of_o ourselves_o it_o will_v beget_v a_o holy_a modesty_n and_o shamefacedness_n and_o make_v we_o very_o shy_a and_o reserve_v in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o most_o innocent_a and_o allowable_a pleasure_n it_o will_v be_v country_n be_v much_o in_o our_o thought_n it_o will_v make_v we_o as_o stranger_n and_o pilgrim_n to_o abstain_v from_o fleshly_a lust_n which_o war_n against_o the_o soul_n and_o keep_v ourselves_o unspotted_a in_o this_o world_n that_o we_o may_v be_v fit_a for_o the_o enjoyment_n and_o felicity_n of_o the_o other_o but_o then_o we_o must_v see_v that_o our_o notion_n of_o heaven_n be_v not_o gross_a and_o carnal_a that_o we_o dream_v not_o of_o a_o mahometan_a paradise_n nor_o rest_n on_o those_o metaphor_n and_o similitude_n by_o which_o these_o joy_n be_v sometime_o represent_v for_o this_o may_v perhaps_o have_v a_o quite_o contrary_a effect_n it_o may_v entangle_v we_o further_o in_o carnal_a affection_n and_o we_o shall_v be_v ready_a to_o indulge_v ourselves_o a_o very_a liberal_a foretaste_n of_o those_o pleasure_n wherein_o we_o have_v place_v our_o everlasting_a felicity_n but_o when_o we_o come_v once_o to_o conceive_v aright_o of_o those_o pure_a and_o spiritual_a pleasure_n when_o the_o happiness_n we_o propose_v to_o ourselves_o be_v from_o the_o sight_n and_o love_n and_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n and_o our_o mind_n be_v fill_v with_o the_o hope_n and_o fore-thought_n of_o that_o bless_a estate_n o_o how_o mean_a and_o contemptible_a will_v all_o thing_n here_o below_o appear_v in_o our_o eye_n with_o what_o disdain_n will_v we_o reject_v the_o gross_a and_o muddy_a pleasure_n that_o will_v deprive_v we_o of_o those_o celestial_a enjoyment_n or_o any_o way_n unfit_a and_o indispose_v we_o for_o they_o the_o last_o branch_n of_o religion_n be_v humility_n fail_n and_o sure_o we_o can_v never_o want_v matter_n of_o consideration_n for_o beget_v it_o all_o our_o wickedness_n and_o imperfection_n all_o our_o folly_n and_o our_o sin_n may_v help_v to_o pull_v down_o that_o fond_a and_o overween_a conceit_n which_o we_o be_v apt_a to_o entertain_v of_o ourselves_o that_o which_o make_v any_o body_n esteem_v we_o be_v their_o knowledge_n or_o apprehension_n of_o some_o little_a good_a and_o their_o ignorance_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o evil_n that_o may_v be_v in_o we_o be_v they_o thorough_o acquaint_v with_o we_o they_o will_v quick_o change_v their_o opinion_n the_o thought_n that_o pass_v in_o our_o heart_n in_o the_o best_a and_o most_o serious_a day_n of_o our_o life_n be_v expose_v unto_o public_a view_n will_v render_v we_o either_o hateful_a or_o ridiculous_a and_o now_o however_o we_o conceal_v our_o fail_n from_o one_o another_o yet_o sure_o we_o be_v conscious_a to_o they_o ourselves_o and_o some_o serious_a reflection_n upon_o they_o will_v much_o qualify_v and_o allay_v the_o vanity_n of_o our_o spirit_n thus_o holy_a man_n have_v come_v real_o to_o think_v worse_o of_o themselves_o than_o of_o any_o other_o person_n in_o the_o world_n not_o but_o that_o they_o know_v that_o gross_a and_o scandalous_a vice_n be_v in_o their_o nature_n more_o heinous_a than_o the_o surprisal_n of_o tentation_n and_o infirmity_n but_o because_o they_o be_v much_o more_o intent_n on_o their_o own_o miscarriage_n than_o on_o those_o of_o their_o neighbour_n and_o do_v consider_v all_o the_o aggravation_n of_o the_o one_o and_o every_o thing_n that_o may_v be_v suppose_v to_o diminish_v and_o alleviate_v the_o other_o but_o it_o be_v well_o observe_v by_o a_o pious_a ourselves_o writer_n that_o the_o deep_a and_o most_o pure_a humility_n do_v not_o so_o much_o arise_v from_o the_o consideration_n of_o our_o own_o fault_n and_o defect_n as_o from_o a_o calm_a and_o quiet_a contemplation_n of_o the_o divine_a purity_n and_o goodness_n our_o spot_n never_o appear_v so_o clear_o as_o when_o we_o place_v they_o before_o this_o infinite_a light_n and_o we_o never_o seem_v less_o in_o our_o own_o eye_n than_o when_o we_o look_v down_o upon_o ourselves_o from_o on_o high_a o_o how_o little_a how_o nothing_o do_v all_o those_o shadow_n of_o perfection_n then_o appear_v for_o which_o we_o be_v wont_n to_o value_v ourselves_o that_o humility_n which_o come_v from_o a_o view_n of_o our_o own_o sinfulness_n and_o misery_n be_v more_o turbulent_a and_o boisterous_a but_o the_o other_o lay_v we_o full_a as_o low_a and_o want_v nothing_o but_o that_o anguish_n and_o vexation_n wherewith_o our_o soul_n be_v apt_a to_o boil_v when_o they_o be_v the_o near_a object_n of_o
