their_o mouth_n they_o never_o employ_v any_o of_o they_o for_o their_o temporal_a gain_n and_o advantage_n silver_n and_o gold_n they_o have_v none_o though_o they_o be_v enrich_v with_o all_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n they_o heal_v all_o manner_n of_o disease_n but_o receive_v nothing_o for_o the_o cure_n they_o speak_v with_o tongue_n teach_v mystery_n instruct_v man_n in_o heavenly_a knowledge_n but_o free_o they_o receive_v and_o free_o they_o give_v to_o all_o their_o disciple_n none_o of_o they_o seek_v to_o advance_v himself_o to_o the_o degree_n of_o a_o noble_a in_o he_o through_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n from_o the_o dead_a as_o he_o tell_v we_o v._o 13_o 14._o for_o this_o cause_n say_v he_o we_o faint_v not_o etc._n etc._n v._o 16._o it_o be_v no_o fool-hardiness_n that_o make_v they_o expose_v themselves_o to_o so_o many_o calamity_n but_o the_o belief_n of_o some_o better_a thing_n which_o will_v reward_v their_o suffering_n for_o our_o light_a affliction_n say_v he_o v._o 17_o 18._o which_o be_v but_o for_o a_o moment_n work_v for_o we_o a_o far_o more_o exceed_a and_o eternal_a weight_n of_o glory_n while_o we_o look_v not_o at_o the_o thing_n which_o be_v see_v but_o at_o the_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o see_v etc._n etc._n and_o if_o any_o one_o shall_v think_v that_o these_o suffering_n may_v end_v at_o last_o in_o death_n and_o bring_v they_o down_o to_o their_o grave_n he_o will_v have_v they_o think_v withal_o that_o it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n let_v these_o misery_n proceed_v so_o far_o as_o to_o take_v away_o our_o life_n this_o be_v the_o worst_a of_o it_o the_o best_a be_v we_o know_v that_o if_o our_o earthly_a house_n of_o this_o tabernacle_n be_v dissolve_v we_o have_v a_o build_n of_o god_n a_o house_n not_o make_v with_o hand_n eternal_a in_o the_o heaven_n these_o suffering_n it_o be_v true_a may_v pull_v down_o our_o present_a habitation_n but_o that_o be_v all_o they_o can_v do_v there_o be_v a_o better_a building_n which_o they_o can_v touch_v beside_o we_o shall_v be_v no_o great_a loser_n by_o the_o demolish_n of_o this_o dwell_n for_o it_o be_v but_o a_o earthly_a house_n nay_o we_o shall_v be_v great_a gainer_n for_o we_o shall_v the_o soon_o enter_v into_o the_o celestial_a and_o eternal_a mansion_n this_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n in_o which_o we_o may_v consider_v these_o three_o thing_n 1._o the_o description_n which_o the_o apostle_n make_v of_o the_o present_a state_n in_o which_o we_o now_o be_v it_o be_v in_o our_o earthly_a house_n of_o this_o tabernacle_n which_o must_v be_v dissolve_v 2._o his_o description_n of_o the_o future_a state_n in_o which_o the_o faithful_a shall_v be_v hereafter_o they_o have_v a_o build_n of_o god_n a_o house_n not_o make_v with_o hand_n eternal_a in_o the_o heaven_n 3._o the_o certainty_n of_o that_o happy_a state_n it_o be_v a_o thing_n as_o evident_a in_o its_o kind_n as_o the_o other_o be_v as_o we_o know_v that_o this_o house_n of_o we_o be_v to_o be_v dissolve_v so_o we_o know_v there_o be_v a_o build_n of_o god_n when_o it_o be_v throw_v down_o which_o stand_v for_o ever_o the_o one_o be_v certain_a as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o of_o the_o two_o first_o i_o have_v discourse_v elsewhere_o upon_o the_o like_a occasion_n with_o this_o that_o have_v now_o bring_v we_o together_o show_v how_o poor_a and_o mean_a the_o dwelling_n be_v in_o which_o our_o soul_n lodge_v while_o they_o remain_v in_o this_o world_n and_o what_o goodly_a preparation_n our_o lord_n have_v make_v for_o they_o in_o the_o next_o there_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o opposition_n here_o of_o the_o one_o state_n to_o the_o other_o in_o five_o respect_n 1._o we_o be_v here_o only_o in_o a_o house_n but_o there_o be_v a_o build_n for_o we_o 2._o this_o be_v a_o house_n of_o we_o but_o that_o be_v a_o build_n of_o god_n 3._o we_o be_v now_o but_o a_o house_n of_o a_o tabernacle_n then_o we_o shall_v have_v a_o house_n not_o make_v with_o band_n 4._o and_o this_o be_v a_o earthly_a house_n whereas_o that_o be_v in_o the_o heaven_n 5._o this_o be_v to_o be_v dissolve_v but_o that_o be_v eternal_a in_o the_o heaven_n as_o much_o as_o to_o say_v we_o be_v here_o confine_v to_o a_o very_a strait_a and_o narrow_a room_n in_o which_o the_o noble_a thought_n and_o affection_n of_o our_o soul_n be_v apt_a to_o be_v choke_v and_o stifle_v and_o no_o wonder_n consider_v the_o meaneness_n of_o its_o original_n and_o the_o poorness_n of_o its_o beginning_n our_o body_n be_v once_o a_o very_a small_a pile_n so_o small_a that_o it_o can_v be_v enclose_v in_o our_o mother_n womb._n then_o and_o a_o long_a time_n after_o our_o soul_n be_v so_o pen_v up_o that_o they_o can_v not_o find_v themselves_o they_o be_v force_v to_o stay_v many_o year_n before_o they_o can_v gain_v so_o much_o liberty_n as_o to_o turn_v about_o reflect_v on_o themselves_o and_o know_v that_o they_o have_v a_o be_v nay_o so_o pitiful_o be_v they_o coop_v up_o that_o the_o rational_a spirit_n can_v not_o breathe_v or_o give_v any_o sign_n at_o all_o of_o life_n and_o though_o now_o
indeed_o this_o house_n be_v raise_v and_o advance_v to_o a_o great_a bigness_n yet_o beside_o that_o it_o be_v of_o no_o huge_a dimension_n and_o a_o great_a many_o year_n be_v spend_v in_o rear_v it_o to_o such_o a_o height_n it_o be_v but_o like_o a_o tabernacle_n a_o place_n subject_n to_o continual_a change_n the_o scene_z of_o perpetual_a alteration_n by_o which_o it_o have_v both_o its_o subsistence_n and_o destruction_n it_o be_v liable_a also_o to_o outward_a violence_n as_o well_o as_o inward_a pain_n and_o disease_n and_o at_o its_o best_a state_n be_v but_o a_o vile_a and_o forbid_v habitation_n a_o house_n of_o clay_n or_o dirt_n into_o which_o it_o will_v at_o last_o be_v resolve_v it_o can_v stand_v long_o though_o we_o underprop_v it_o never_o so_o much_o but_o as_o it_o call_v for_o daily_a repair_n so_o in_o the_o end_n it_o will_v utter_o fall_v to_o ruin_v this_o be_v the_o miserable_a condition_n of_o soul_n in_o their_o present_a abode_n which_o shall_v make_v they_o one_o will_v think_v not_o very_o fond_a of_o it_o nor_o to_o set_v a_o high_a esteem_n on_o those_o pleasure_n which_o be_v limit_v to_o so_o small_a a_o space_n and_o crowd_v into_o such_o a_o narrow_a compass_n nunquam_fw-la magnis_fw-la ingeniis_fw-la chara_fw-la in_o corpore_fw-la mora_fw-la est_fw-la no_o great_a mind_n ever_o hold_v their_o body_n in_o great_a esteem_n nor_o will_v purchase_v their_o stay_n in_o they_o at_o too_o great_a a_o price_n they_o rather_o groan_v earnest_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v in_o the_o next_o verse_n when_o they_o feel_v the_o burden_n and_o pressure_n of_o this_o state_n to_o be_v translate_v to_o that_o bless_a country_n where_o they_o shall_v be_v better_o entertain_v for_o there_o all_o faithful_a soul_n shall_v feel_v themselves_o in_o fair_a and_o more_o spacious_a mansion_n and_o possess_v a_o build_n of_o great_a capacity_n and_o large_a reception_n in_o which_o they_o shall_v enjoy_v as_o much_o liberty_n and_o freedom_n as_o heart_n can_v desire_v spread_v themselves_o in_o a_o vast_a and_o unbounded_a blessedness_n it_o can_v be_v otherwise_o see_v it_o be_v a_o build_n of_o god_n a_o fabric_n whole_o of_o his_o own_o rear_n and_o therefore_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o beautiful_a and_o stately_a work_n that_o shall_v bear_v some_o mark_n of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o builder_n and_o declare_v the_o greatness_n wisdom_n and_o magnificent_a goodness_n of_o our_o creator_n and_o redeemer_n there_o can_v be_v no_o time_n conceive_v there_o wherein_o we_o shall_v be_v to_o seek_v for_o our_o happiness_n but_o at_o our_o first_o entrance_n into_o that_o bless_a place_n we_o shall_v find_v our_o thought_n full_a of_o god_n our_o heart_n exceed_o ravish_v with_o his_o love_n and_o all_o this_o present_a tabernacle_n but_o as_o that_o house_n be_v make_v without_o hand_n so_o it_o will_v subsist_v unchangeable_o without_o those_o help_n which_o we_o now_o require_v for_o it_o be_v a_o build_n in_o the_o heaven_n the_o dwell_a place_n of_o god_n himself_o who_o will_v one_o day_n refine_v our_o very_a body_n and_o make_v it_o like_o the_o pure_a sky_n so_o that_o it_o shall_v have_v no_o spot_n nor_o wrinkle_n nor_o any_o such_o thing_n but_o be_v of_o a_o clear_a and_o transparent_a beauty_n like_o that_o of_o the_o glorious_a body_n of_o our_o saviour_n this_o will_v secure_v the_o incorruption_n and_o eternity_n of_o it_o there_o will_v be_v no_o heaviness_n in_o it_o to_o incline_v it_o to_o this_o dull_a earth_n again_o no_o such_o weight_n as_o shall_v sink_v we_o down_o to_o these_o low_a region_n but_o be_v translate_v to_o the_o country_n of_o spirit_n it_o will_v become_v in_o a_o manner_n a_o spiritual_a body_n which_o shall_v neither_o grow_v old_a nor_o suffer_v any_o decay_n but_o remain_v in_o a_o constant_a youth_n and_o freshness_n eternal_o in_o the_o heaven_n these_o be_v great_a and_o glorious_a thing_n as_o i_o then_o distinct_o show_v so_o great_a that_o they_o who_o do_v not_o believe_v they_o can_v but_o wish_v they_o shall_v be_v true_a for_o man_n natural_o abhor_v to_o think_v that_o any_o thing_n of_o they_o shall_v perish_v and_o die_v for_o ever_o and_o they_o as_o passionate_o desire_v to_o be_v in_o a_o better_a condition_n than_o now_o they_o find_v themselves_o they_o will_v all_o be_v more_o happy_a if_o they_o know_v how_o than_o the_o whole_a world_n can_v make_v they_o and_o never_o by_o their_o good_a will_n have_v any_o period_n put_v to_o their_o enjoyment_n which_o be_v the_o very_a thing_n that_o the_o apostle_n here_o give_v we_o hope_v of_o the_o general_n sense_n of_o who_o word_n be_v this_o that_o there_o be_v a_o never_o end_a felicity_n for_o good_a christian_n not_o only_o for_o their_o soul_n but_o their_o body_n too_o in_o the_o other_o world_n for_o their_o soul_n present_o in_o those_o heavenly_a mansion_n which_o our_o lord_n speak_v of_o in_o his_o father_n house_n and_o for_o their_o body_n at_o the_o day_n of_o his_o appear_v again_o when_o he_o that_o raise_v up_o the_o lord_n jesus_n shall_v raise_v up_o we_o also_o by_o jesus_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v in_o ver._n 14._o of_o the_o former_a chapter_n but_o what_o certainty_n be_v there_o of_o such_o thing_n may_v some_o say_v may_v we_o not_o abuse_v ourselves_o if_o we_o look_v for_o that_o which_o no_o man_n ever_o see_v be_v not_o this_o to_o build_v castle_n in_o the_o air_n as_o the_o common_a say_n be_v and_o to_o feed_v ourselves_o with_o vain_a and_o empty_a promise_n out_o of_o our_o own_o imagination_n why_o shall_v we_o hope_v for_o any_o such_o glorious_a state_n who_o be_v so_o unworthy_a even_o our_o present_a be_v what_o make_v it_o enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o think_v of_o be_v so_o happy_a and_o to_o entertain_v their_o mind_n with_o the_o expectation_n of_o such_o matter_n as_o seem_v too_o good_a and_o too_o great_a to_o be_v true_a the_o apostle_n answer_v to_o such_o surmise_n here_o in_o my_o text._n we_o know_v that_o we_o have_v a_o build_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n we_o have_v good_a reason_n for_o what_o we_o preach_v we_o do_v not_o flatter_v ourselves_o and_o you_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o these_o thing_n our_o hope_n be_v not_o build_v on_o the_o sand_n or_o the_o air_n but_o stand_v on_o a_o firm_a foundation_n we_o have_v solid_a ground_n for_o this_o persuasion_n and_o such_o certain_a argument_n on_o which_o to_o find_v this_o belief_n that_o it_o amount_v to_o a_o knowledge_n we_o doubt_v no_o more_o of_o it_o than_o of_o those_o thing_n of_o which_o we_o have_v a_o certain_a assurance_n but_o as_o we_o know_v that_o we_o must_v die_v so_o we_o know_v by_o other_o mean_n that_o after_o we_o be_v dissolve_v there_o be_v a_o better_a dwell_n for_o we_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o subject_n of_o my_o discourse_n at_o this_o time_n and_o here_o be_v five_o thing_n worthy_a of_o our_o notice_n which_o make_v up_o the_o evidence_n which_o the_o apostle_n have_v for_o this_o build_n and_o eternal_a possession_n in_o the_o heaven_n i._o he_o say_v it_o be_v a_o thing_n know_v a_o matter_n that_o be_v demonstrable_a by_o proper_a argument_n ii_o a_o thing_n general_o know_v for_o he_o speak_v in_o the_o plural_a number_n not_o a_o private_a doctrine_n but_o the_o common_a sense_n of_o all_o the_o follower_n of_o jesus_n iii_o they_o know_v this_o so_o that_o they_o make_v it_o the_o scope_n of_o all_o their_o endeavour_n that_o the_o particle_n for_o bid_v we_o consider_v which_o refer_v to_o the_o word_n immediate_o forego_v iu._n more_o than_o this_o they_o be_v so_o sure_a of_o it_o that_o for_o its_o sake_n they_o quit_v their_o present_a dwell_n and_o venture_v their_o very_a life_n to_o come_v at_o it_o for_o so_o he_o will_v tell_v you_o if_o you_o look_v but_o a_o little_a further_o back_o to_o the_o 16._o 11._o and_o 10_o â—h_a verse_n of_o the_o four_o chapter_n of_o which_o he_o here_o also_o give_v the_o reason_n v._o last_o they_o be_v so_o perfect_o persuade_v of_o it_o that_o they_o esteem_v themselves_o in_o a_o sort_n possess_v of_o this_o build_n for_o he_o say_v ear_n that_o it_o be_v his_o goodness_n and_o kindness_n alone_o which_o move_v he_o to_o engage_v himself_o in_o those_o promise_n they_o be_v well_o assure_v for_o nothing_o else_o can_v persuade_v he_o to_o it_o and_o that_o his_o power_n be_v equal_a to_o his_o will_n they_o have_v abundant_a demonstration_n for_o they_o see_v he_o open_v the_o eye_n of_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v blind_a and_o can_v easy_o do_v as_o much_o for_o their_o body_n it_o be_v no_o hard_a for_o he_o they_o know_v to_o give_v a_o luminous_a body_n than_o it_o be_v so_o marvellous_o to_o illuminate_v their_o mind_n to_o turn_v this_o earthly_a house_n into_o a_o heavenly_a than_o to_o fill_v the_o spirit_n of_o common_a man_n with_o the_o spirit_n and_o wisdom_n of_o god_n that_o pureness_n agility_n and_o incorruption_n of_o the_o body_n which_o they_o look_v for_o be_v as_o easy_a to_o be_v effect_v in_o the_o twinkle_n of_o a_o eye_n as_o it_o be_v for_o their_o soul_n to_o receive_v on_o a_o sudden_a such_o quickness_n of_o thought_n the_o light_n of_o prophecy_n the_o gift_n of_o language_n and_o all_o the_o other_o excellent_a endowment_n which_o they_o find_v themselves_o possess_v of_o he_o that_o have_v convert_v their_o mind_n into_o a_o kind_n of_o angelical_a understanding_n they_o know_v can_v raise_v they_o still_o to_o what_o degree_n he_o please_v and_o convert_v their_o other_o part_n into_o as_o high_a a_o glory_n so_o that_o the_o angel_n shall_v as_o much_o admire_v the_o change_n of_o the_o one_o as_o they_o do_v of_o the_o other_o and_o as_o now_o they_o desire_v to_o look_v into_o the_o goodly_a state_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n so_o hereafter_o they_o shall_v be_v very_o much_o surprise_v with_o the_o great_a splendour_n of_o it_o when_o they_o see_v the_o dead_a raise_v and_o make_v equal_a to_o themselves_o martion_n indeed_o and_o other_o ancient_a heretic_n vilify_v the_o body_n so_o much_o that_o they_o think_v it_o unworthy_a of_o the_o care_n of_o god_n but_o as_o tertullian_n smart_o reply_v they_o love_v it_o too_o well_o though_o they_o despise_v and_o undervalue_v it_o so_o much_o and_o as_o for_o god_n he_o will_v never_o despise_v the_o work_n of_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o it_o be_v not_o one_o of_o his_o ordinary_a work_n neither_o but_o the_o work_n of_o his_o counsel_n the_o receptacle_n of_o a_o noble_a spirit_n that_o which_o minister_n to_o the_o most_o high_a and_o do_v he_o service_n that_o which_o be_v offer_v and_o sacrifice_v to_o he_o by_o the_o holy_a martyr_n that_o which_o the_o son_n of_o not_o now_o feel_v the_o beginning_n of_o a_o change_n in_o it_o as_o they_o do_v in_o their_o spirit_n yet_o the_o wonderful_a advancement_n which_o they_o feel_v in_o they_o force_v they_o to_o conclude_v that_o he_o can_v as_o easy_o raise_v and_o improve_v their_o mortal_a body_n and_o it_o be_v a_o proof_n also_o that_o he_o will_v for_o one_o promise_v be_v fulfil_v of_o send_v the_o spirit_n upon_o they_o it_o be_v a_o earnest_n of_o the_o other_o promise_n that_o he_o will_v turn_v these_o earthly_a body_n into_o heavenly_a planè_fw-la accepit_fw-la &_o hîc_fw-la spiritum_fw-la
