in_o truth_n but_o remain_v vain_a and_o unruly_a
talker_n and_o contender_n about_o word_n question_n and_o outward_a thing_n and_o will_v make_v themselves_o love_n god_n by_o their_o own_o strength_n and_o wisdom_n which_o may_v not_o be_v though_o they_o shall_v act_v therein_o never_o so_o violent_o as_o it_o be_v to_o pull_v god_n out_o of_o heaven_n to_o they_o by_o their_o strive_n pant_n and_o bursting_n out_o into_o heat_n in_o their_o devote_a zeal_n for_o though_o such_o suppose_v in_o their_o thought_n and_o heart_n they_o love_v god_n and_o also_o resolve_v so_o to_o do_v and_o for_o his_o sake_n to_o suffer_v death_n yet_o these_o man_n love_n in_o that_o manner_n be_v neither_o true_o so_o nor_o be_v any_o strength_n so_o ask_v by_o they_o to_o stand_v therein_o for_o such_o soul_n have_v but_o either_o receive_v that_o gift_n of_o love_n through_o christ_n as_o a_o man_n or_o they_o have_v it_o not_o but_o will_v have_v it_o and_o so_o strive_v in_o their_o own_o strength_n to_o feel_v the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o come_v not_o to_o a_o wait_a in_o the_o light_n to_o see_v and_o know_v their_o own_o soul_n nor_o themselves_o unworthy_a and_o unable_a to_o do_v any_o good_a thing_n think_v a_o good_a thought_n or_o in_o the_o least_o measure_n to_o move_v towards_o god_n or_o prepare_v their_o own_o heart_n for_o he_o or_o see_v their_o own_o miserable_a blind_a and_o naked_a condition_n as_o dead_a in_o sin_n and_o trespass_n wait_v at_o the_o pool_n to_o receive_v help_n and_o heal_n by_o the_o angel_n move_v of_o the_o water_n as_o the_o lord_n free_a gift_n of_o love_n to_o eternal_a of_o life_n that_o be_v not_o of_o the_o father_n but_o of_o the_o world_n nor_o to_o know_v he_o the_o healer_n and_o maker_n up_o of_o the_o breach_n the_o repairer_n of_o the_o ancient_a path_n to_o walk_v in_o by_o cleanse_v man_n soul_n that_o be_v full_a filthy_a while_o they_o remain_v ignorant_a of_o he_o or_o have_v any_o fleshly_a appetite_n lust_n or_o like_o desire_n alive_a in_o they_o whereby_o the_o fair_a pearl_n be_v blemish_v and_o much_o more_o filthy_a when_o their_o soul_n be_v take_v up_o with_o a_o full_a love_n and_o like_n of_o this_o world_n and_o whole_o overcome_v by_o the_o sensual_a and_o fleshly_a part_n that_o they_o choose_v it_o and_o delight_v therein_o as_o the_o full_a rest_n of_o their_o heart_n so_o that_o they_o feel_v no_o liquor_n of_o life_n or_o sweetness_n of_o grace_n stir_v they_o to_o loathe_v what_o their_o flesh_n like_v nor_o to_o desire_v that_o heavenly_a food_n of_o their_o soul_n so_o they_o do_v not_o bear_v the_o image_n of_o sin_n but_o be_v bear_v and_o carry_v with_o it_o and_o of_o it_o and_o feel_v no_o strength_n but_o in_o it_o nor_o no_o will_n to_o leave_v it_o but_o yield_v thereto_o with_o all_o ready_a forwardness_n but_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o food_n of_o all_o hungry_a soul_n and_o through_o he_o in_o he_o and_o by_o he_o be_v such_o soul_n reform_v and_o restore_v into_o their_o first_o and_o fair_a likeness_n of_o god_n in_o righteousness_n and_o true_a holiness_n and_o so_o be_v the_o new_a man_n create_v in_o christ_n jesus_n to_o good_a work_n to_o walk_v in_o they_o by_o the_o divine_a will_n and_o quicken_a spirit_n whereby_o the_o flame_a sword_n come_v to_o be_v remove_v and_o the_o everlasting_a gate_n open_v to_o all_o willing_a and_o watchful_a soul_n to_o true_o say_v i_o know_v you_o not_o depart_v from_o i_o you_o be_v worker_n of_o iniquity_n though_o they_o may_v have_v attain_v to_o a_o fleshly_a knowledge_n of_o he_o by_o imagine_v think_v and_o fashion_v he_o in_o themselves_o with_o their_o mind_n thought_n affection_n desire_n care_n and_o bodily_a wit_n and_o so_o suppose_v they_o love_v fear_v serve_v and_o worship_v he_o as_o a_o man_n like_o themselves_o yet_o without_o sin_n that_o god_n be_v wroth_a with_o they_o as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v offend_v that_o christ_n die_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o therefore_o they_o fall_v down_o at_o his_o foot_n with_o sorrow_n of_o heart_n cry_v for_o mercy_n and_o pardon_n and_o like_o the_o five_o foolish_a virgin_n suppose_v they_o be_v ready_a for_o he_o have_v good_a trust_n in_o his_o mercy_n and_o so_o reverence_v he_o and_o fear_v before_o he_o and_o thereupon_o do_v very_o believe_v they_o so_o know_v and_o worship_v he_o because_o they_o feel_v their_o heart_n move_v and_o stir_v with_o love_n to_o he_o and_o desire_v of_o he_o but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o worship_n in_o spirit_n and_o truth_n which_o he_o expect_v and_o accept_v for_o all_o this_o while_n these_o worshipper_n know_v not_o their_o own_o soul_n nor_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n reconcile_a they_o to_o himself_o nor_o have_v they_o any_o oil_n in_o their_o lamp_n or_o sweet_a liquor_n of_o life_n supply_a their_o soul_n for_o the_o lord_n jesus_n be_v not_o see_v much_o less_o know_v and_o worship_v by_o man_n imagination_n for_o the_o earthly_a nature_n can_v receive_v retain_v or_o bear_v this_o heavenly_a new_a wine_n so_o there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o christ_n jesus_n tell_v his_o disciple_n he_o have_v many_o thing_n to_o say_v unto_o they_o but_o they_o can_v not_o then_o bear_v they_o and_o yet_o be_v upright_o in_o heart_n to_o the_o lord_n he_o be_v please_v so_o to_o temper_n strengthen_v and_o comfort_v they_o with_o such_o a_o inward_a behold_v that_o they_o forsake_v sin_n and_o the_o great_a love_n of_o this_o world_n whereby_o the_o invisible_a light_n of_o his_o godhead_n be_v somewhat_o shadow_v to_o the_o inner_a eye_n of_o their_o soul_n under_o the_o labour_v in_o outward_a service_n for_o he_o and_o that_o with_o hearty_a affection_n but_o mary_n choose_v the_o better_a part_n she_o receive_v and_o embrace_v he_o with_o more_o pure_a affection_n and_o retain_v he_o in_o she_o bear_v it_o marry_o magdalen_n love_v christ_n well_o before_o his_o passion_n of_o bodily_a death_n but_o her_o love_n be_v much_o bodily_a and_o little_a spiritual_o for_o she_o love_v he_o not_o as_o god_n before_o though_o her_o thought_n and_o affection_n be_v set_v upon_o he_o in_o which_o affection_n or_o action_n express_v her_o love_n christ_n condemn_v she_o not_o in_o that_o time_n so_o far_o as_o we_o find_v but_o after_o when_o he_o be_v rise_v from_o death_n and_o appear_v unto_o she_o she_o will_v have_v reverence_v he_o with_o such_o a_o manner_n of_o love_n as_o she_o do_v before_o and_o then_o christ_n forbid_v she_o say_v touch_v i_o not_o as_o look_v not_o on_o i_o with_o a_o fleshly_a eye_n to_o rest_v therein_o for_o so_o i_o be_o not_o ascend_v to_o my_o father_n nor_o equal_a to_o the_o father_n so_o but_o now_o love_v i_o as_o i_o be_o one_o with_o the_o father_n in_o the_o form_n of_o the_o godhead_n know_v love_n and_o worship_v i_o as_o god_n and_o man_n like_o god_n so_o to_o be_v with_o i_o love_n and_o worship_v i_o only_o for_o that_o i_o be_o god_n that_o take_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n and_o heavenly_a gift_n of_o holiness_n and_o glory_n few_o have_v yet_o attain_v to_o in_o these_o latter_a time_n since_o the_o apostasy_n and_o therefore_o those_o soul_n that_o have_v not_o attain_v to_o this_o spiritual_a understanding_n of_o he_o through_o his_o grace_n be_v to_o wait_v in_o his_o light_n with_o pure_a affection_n of_o fervent_a love_n until_o more_o grace_n be_v free_o give_v that_o all_o spiritual_a gift_n be_v feel_v and_o taste_v in_o the_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n chief_o in_o love_n and_o spiritual_a understanding_n but_o not_o in_o imagination_n through_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o body_n or_o bodily_a wit_n which_o be_v not_o spiritual_a feeling_n and_o at_o most_o but_o outward_a token_n of_o spiritual_a inward_a feeling_n in_o the_o power_n of_o their_o soul_n where_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v light_v their_o reason_n and_o kindle_v their_o affection_n with_o his_o bless_a presence_n so_o clear_o in_o fervent_a love_n that_o they_o immediate_o thereby_o receive_v the_o knowledge_n of_o spiritual_a truth_n and_o perfect_a love_n with_o a_o outward_a show_v of_o of_o the_o inward_a feel_n of_o spiritual_a grace_n and_o as_o it_o be_v in_o inward_a grace_n and_o the_o body_n make_v obedient_a thereby_o to_o the_o spirit_n move_v and_o lead_v without_o fainedness_n or_o fancy_n of_o imagination_n and_o he_o be_v no_o spiritual_a man_n that_o have_v not_o thus_o learned_a christ_n or_o be_v teach_v his_o lesson_n by_o he_o in_o like_a spiritual_a wise_n nor_o any_o way_n qualify_v to_o judge_v of_o spiritual_a matter_n but_o must_v how_o then_o shall_v he_o reform_v other_o but_o as_o a_o blind_a man_n may_v judge_v of_o colour_n because_o these_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v above_o the_o sight_n of_o his_o carnal_a eye_n so_o that_o he_o perceive_v they_o not_o that_o have_v not_o the_o spiritual_a eye_n of_o his_o understanding_n open_v and_o how_o then_o shall_v he_o open_v the_o scripture_n that_o as_o christ_n say_v neither_o know_v they_o nor_o the_o power_n of_o god_n or_o be_v skilled_a in_o the_o use_n of_o his_o spiritual_a weapon_n his_o warfare_n or_o work_n to_o be_v do_v in_o his_o vineyard_n or_o know_v the_o kingdom_n power_n or_o glory_n of_o god_n whereto_o all_o true_a service_n tend_v for_o as_o it_o be_v write_v the_o natural_a man_n understand_v not_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o unwilling_a to_o know_v what_o conscience_n and_o the_o light_n therein_o mean_n lest_o it_o shall_v hinder_v their_o earthly_a happiness_n of_o glory_v in_o their_o shame_n as_o man_n not_o in_o their_o right_a mind_n but_o bereave_v of_o their_o wit_n not_o know_v what_o they_o be_v of_o who_o they_o be_v to_o who_o they_o belong_v what_o their_o business_n be_v here_o or_o how_o to_o gain_v content_a in_o anything_o but_o every_o toy_n disquiet_v their_o mind_n every_o filthy_a lust_n take_v hold_v of_o they_o and_o get_v dominion_n over_o they_o lead_v they_o captive_a and_o they_o they_o nor_o take_v any_o heed_n to_o his_o lead_n or_o light_n that_o will_v show_v they_o better_o but_o resist_v all_o so_o that_o they_o seldom_o feel_v any_o glimpse_n of_o the_o light_n of_o christ_n neither_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v it_o to_o rest_v in_o or_o shine_v into_o their_o soul_n lest_o it_o shall_v draw_v they_o from_o the_o great_a love_n and_o like_n of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o lust_n that_o seem_v so_o sweet_a to_o they_o but_o do_v they_o say_v they_o want_v grace_n to_o resist_v sin_n and_o tentation_n thereto_o that_o do_v present_o yield_v themselves_o to_o sin_n upon_o the_o motion_n thereof_o these_o man_n have_v grace_v true_o offer_v to_o they_o but_o they_o withstand_v it_o and_o turn_v it_o into_o wantonness_n and_o resist_v the_o true_a light_n to_o their_o vain_a pleasure_n and_o lustful_a practice_n even_o as_o beast_n and_o sodomite_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o rise_v up_o to_o play_v fill_v themselves_o with_o worldly_a solace_n and_o leave_v token_n of_o their_o jollity_n behind_o they_o from_o whence_o that_o general_a question_n arise_v do_v you_o love_v this_o meat_n or_o drink_v this_o or_o the_o other_o outward_a thing_n etc._n etc._n about_o which_o lust_n many_o do_v so_o mighty_o spend_v their_o strength_n and_o employ_v their_o wit_n in_o strive_v to_o get_v needless_a wealth_n to_o satisfy_v this_o love_n he_o and_o teach_v he_o all_o needful_a thing_n for_o salvation_n gain_v they_o for_o he_o and_o bestow_v they_o on_o he_o and_o therefore_o as_o there_o be_v a_o stand_v fast_o in_o this_o watchful_a slaughter_n and_o so_o keep_v they_o while_o he_o may_v in_o presumption_n etc._n etc._n but_o if_o once_o he_o see_v any_o soul_n will_v entire_o give_v themselves_o to_o be_v spiritual_o employ_v than_o he_o strive_v by_o himself_o and_o his_o minister_n to_o set_v their_o sin_n in_o order_n before_o they_o and_o tell_v they_o they_o be_v great_a sinner_n and_o more_o in_o this_o change_n and_o turn_v then_o in_o any_o thing_n before_o say_v to_o they_o that_o be_v not_o the_o way_n but_o a_o denial_n of_o christ_n a_o fancy_n and_o frenzy_n of_o a_o fanatic_a spirit_n and_o for_o some_o wicked_a end_n and_o that_o it_o will_v bring_v they_o into_o contempt_n want_n and_o poverty_n wherein_o none_o will_v pity_v they_o that_o they_o must_v change_v their_o condition_n with_o their_o mind_n wife_n and_o child_n come_v to_o want_v that_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o bodily_a sickness_n and_o be_v lay_v in_o prison_n that_o they_o shall_v have_v learned_a man_n to_o advise_v they_o better_o the_o minister_n to_o admonish_v they_o and_o pray_v for_o they_o to_o take_v counsel_n at_o the_o priest_n lip_n which_o preserve_v knowledge_n and_o not_o run_v of_o their_o own_o head_n with_o a_o few_o giddy_a contemptible_a people_n that_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o scripture_n and_o original_a tongue_n and_o if_o they_o depart_v not_o from_o their_o new_a way_n great_a temptation_n will_v overtake_v they_o and_o with_o much_o more_o of_o this_o kind_n do_v this_o flatter_a devil_n seek_v to_o beguile_v such_o soul_n as_o hearken_v to_o he_o by_o the_o cunning_a craftiness_n of_o such_o as_o lie_v in_o wait_n to_o deceive_v and_o that_o entangle_v with_o entice_a word_n of_o man_n wisdom_n to_o beguile_v their_o soul_n with_o bodily_a savour_n sweetness_n of_o wit_n art_n and_o outward_a exercise_n and_o thereby_o if_o possible_a draw_v they_o aside_o from_o the_o simplicity_n and_o puff_v they_o up_o with_o conceit_n of_o themselves_o as_o if_o they_o have_v by_o such_o wisdom_n and_o the_o way_n thereof_o former_o find_v the_o feel_n of_o heavenly_a joy_n and_o so_o lead_v they_o back_o again_o and_o up_o into_o high_a notion_n and_o conceit_n of_o a_o proud_a mind_n until_o they_o become_v base_a and_o blockish_a and_o thereby_o fall_v full_a low_a at_o last_o with_o their_o cold_a dry_a and_o barren_a soul_n for_o the_o more_o they_o imagine_v to_o gain_v by_o such_o mean_n the_o great_a will_v be_v their_o loss_n and_o they_o the_o far_o off_o from_o what_o they_o so_o seem_v to_o seek_v and_o much_o more_o indispose_v to_o return_v into_o the_o right_a way_n of_o obtain_v it_o for_o thereby_o the_o mind_n will_v be_v oft_o and_o high_o lift_v up_o as_o if_o it_o be_v in_o a_o happy_a estate_n and_o condition_n more_o holy_a virtuous_a and_o better_a than_o other_o and_o to_o rejoice_v as_o if_o they_o have_v escape_v a_o very_a great_a temptation_n and_o to_o conceive_v angry_a stir_n in_o themselves_o when_o other_o seem_v not_o so_o to_o esteem_v of_o they_o and_o the_o flatter_a spirit_n will_v sudden_o praise_v and_o applaud_v such_o as_o for_o good_a deed_n and_o virtuous_a live_n and_o this_o last_o be_v the_o sore_a and_o great_a of_o all_o temptation_n and_o most_o dangerous_a because_o of_o the_o delight_n man_n will_v seem_v to_o feel_v about_o they_o by_o such_o sound_n to_o the_o ear_n and_o sweet_a savour_n of_o sense_n tickle_v they_o with_o delight_n therein_o as_o if_o all_o be_v well_o and_o they_o have_v much_o grace_n and_o be_v right_o travel_v with_o their_o mind_n from_o fleshly_a thing_n while_o they_o be_v only_o ravish_v with_o spiritual_a pride_n wherein_o the_o vain_a love_n and_o self-conceit_n pray_v weep_v speak_v and_o thank_v god_n with_o the_o pharisee_fw-mi while_o they_o know_v not_o god_n but_o their_o proud_a heart_n deceive_v they_o and_o lead_v they_o to_o show_v outward_a love_n and_o meekness_n in_o speech_n and_o gesture_n as_o if_o they_o be_v spiritual_o virtuous_a and_o that_o they_o dislike_v nothing_o but_o sin_n only_o because_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n and_o yet_o be_v even_o then_o at_o the_o gate_n of_o spiritual_a death_n so_o puff_v up_o with_o pride_n and_o pleasure_n therein_o as_o that_o they_o be_v even_o dead_a while_o they_o live_v or_o rather_o twice_o dead_a and_o pluck_v up_o the_o root_n become_v servant_n to_o man_n and_o time_n mistake_v one_o thing_n for_o another_o with_o their_o fleshly_a heart_n get_v aloft_o and_o puff_v up_o rest_v in_o the_o root_n and_o rottenness_n of_o sin_n black_a and_o thick_a darkness_n fill_v their_o soul_n which_o may_v be_v hide_v from_o some_o man_n yet_o christ_n jesus_n see_v it_o and_o abhor_v it_o and_o their_o service_n because_o of_o their_o hypocrisy_n and_o heresy_n so_o accompany_v with_o bodily_a and_o spiritual_a pride_n which_o be_v never_o learn_v of_o christ_n as_o their_o god_n for_o man_n make_v any_o thing_n his_o god_n that_o his_o heart_n be_v in_o love_n with_o that_o he_o take_v content_a in_o dare_v sin_n against_o god_n for_o or_o wrong_v any_o man_n by_o and_o so_o such_o man_n have_v their_o divers_a kind_n of_o idol-god_n one_o his_o belly_n another_o the_o applause_n of_o man_n a_o three_o his_o opinion_n and_o word_n hear_v or_o speak_v wherein_o such_o serve_v not_o the_o lord_n jesus_n but_o their_o own_o lustful_a mind_n and_o every_o other_o thing_n that_o a_o man_n choose_v by_o his_o own_o act_n to_o take_v pleasure_n in_o be_v his_o god_n and_o then_o when_o god_n stir_v up_o such_o soul_n to_o obedience_n and_o give_v they_o suitable_a ability_n these_o proud_a heart_n resist_v all_o and_o in_o stead_n of_o obedience_n become_v rebellious_a heady_a harsh_a and_o high-minded_a abuse_v the_o tender_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n god_n in_o the_o light_n of_o his_o spiritual_a leading_n to_o repentance_n and_o this_o condition_n be_v as_o aforesaid_a the_o more_o desperate_a because_o therein_o such_o conclude_v that_o all_o be_v well_o and_o sound_n and_o that_o they_o be_v right_a sure_a and_o righteous_a even_o above_o any_o ordinary_a pharisee_n and_o so_o arrogate_v to_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o hear_v and_o consider_v thou_o that_o think_v thou_o stand_v that_o suppose_v thou_o be_v raise_v from_o death_n to_o life_n have_v taste_v of_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o bear_v it_o may_v be_v some_o affliction_n and_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o false_a liberty_n for_o than_o will_v satan_n try_v and_o winnow_v thou_o and_o be_v teach_v thou_o as_o aforesaid_a or_o as_o sometime_o he_o will_v have_v do_v jesus_n christ_n to_o cast_v himself_o down_o to_o turn_v stone_n into_o
free_a to_o wait_v on_o jesus_n christ_n as_o he_o ought_v for_o so_o long_o as_o love_v to_o any_o creature_n or_o lustful_a desire_n carry_v the_o mind_n out_o from_o jesus_n christ_n his_o true_a light_n within_o he_o can_v die_v to_o the_o world_n nor_o come_v into_o this_o darkness_n of_o know_v himself_o &_o be_v crucify_v to_o the_o world_n as_o not_o desire_v it_o nor_o accept_v it_o and_o for_o this_o forsake_v say_v jesus_n christ_n he_o shall_v have_v a_o hundred_o fold_n even_o the_o profit_n of_o this_o darkness_n be_v hide_v through_o grace_n from_o worldly_a good_n that_o he_o seek_v they_o not_o earnest_o be_v not_o let_v by_o they_o love_v they_o not_o look_v not_o after_o they_o and_o therefore_o have_v a_o hundred_o fold_n more_o than_o any_o king_n or_o rich_a man_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o take_v care_n to_o keep_v that_o he_o have_v and_o yet_o covet_v more_o for_o he_o that_o covet_v jesus_n christ_n and_o he_o only_o he_o have_v more_o rest_n of_o heart_n and_o conscience_n true_a love_n and_o delight_n in_o his_o soul_n in_o one_o hour_n than_o he_o that_o love_v the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n have_v or_o can_v have_v in_o all_o his_o life-time_n and_o this_o darkness_n be_v but_o as_o midday_n when_o the_o sun_n shine_v out_o of_o the_o darkness_n and_o jesus_n christ_n give_v rest_n to_o his_o belove_a that_o stand_v firm_a in_o his_o counsel_n and_o doubt_v not_o nor_o be_v afraid_a for_o any_o evil_a tiding_n because_o his_o heart_n be_v sin_v and_o be_v well_o assure_v that_o the_o light_n of_o knowledge_n and_o feel_v appli_v his_o heart_n thereto_o as_o first_o jesus_n christ_n by_o his_o light_n and_o spirit_n call_v from_o worldly_a vanity_n and_o that_o than_o bring_v great_a sweerness_n and_o joy_n with_o it_o but_o if_o left_a and_o not_o second_v it_o stay_v there_o but_o for_o a_o little_a season_n though_o the_o remembrance_n thereof_o abide_v and_o after_o that_o the_o time_n of_o reform_v and_o set_v the_o soul_n at_o right_n be_v with_o much_o labour_n and_o watch_v for_o when_o the_o mind_n be_v set_v against_o all_o sin_n within_o and_o without_o and_o the_o desire_n whole_o on_o the_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n wherein_o there_o will_v be_v feel_v many_o let_n from_o within_o in_o his_o own_o will_n and_o without_o from_o his_o enemy_n by_o temptation_n and_o his_o great_a torment_n that_o he_o have_v live_v so_o long_o in_o the_o false_a love_n of_o the_o world_n and_o this_o will_v stick_v close_o to_o he_o until_o he_o pass_v through_o spiritual_a tribulation_n and_o be_v purify_v through_o fear_n doubt_n and_o perplexity_n that_o he_o will_v be_v near_o unto_o despair_n and_o whole_o leave_v unto_o the_o enemy_n save_v only_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n private_o love_v he_o and_o such_o a_o soul_n have_v also_o private_a trust_n in_o his_o mercy_n and_o go_v he_o never_o so_o far_o he_o shall_v not_o fall_v because_o he_o be_v bear_v up_o from_o despair_n though_o with_o great_a inward_a pain_n so_o that_o he_o sometime_o know_v not_o whence_o it_o come_v and_o yet_o then_o that_o soul_n will_v not_o for_o all_o the_o world_n be_v blind_v with_o the_o false_a love_n as_o before_o it_o be_v for_o that_o be_v hell_n to_o such_o a_o soul_n and_o this_o the_o lord_n jesus_n do_v in_o pure_a love_n and_o for_o great_a profit_n to_o that_o soul_n to_o drive_v out_o sensuality_n that_o it_o may_v receive_v spiritual_a light_n and_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v reform_v in_o feeling_n and_o free_o accept_v the_o gift_n of_o perfect_a cleanse_n to_o enter_v into_o the_o rest_n and_o cease_v from_o his_o own_o work_n as_o god_n do_v from_o his_o then_o be_v jesus_n christ_n more_o sweet_o familiar_a with_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v so_o bring_v through_o the_o fire_n of_o affliction_n into_o true_a peace_n and_o in_o this_o work_n some_o soul_n have_v great_a devotion_n in_o prayer_n and_o main_a touching_n of_o spiritual_a light_n in_o love_n and_o long_v after_o god_n but_o these_o inward_a feeling_n where_o they_o stand_v in_o compunction_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n or_o of_o devotion_n or_o outward_a imagination_n be_v not_o the_o feeling_n that_o the_o soul_n shall_v have_v and_o feel_v in_o the_o gracious_a habitation_n with_o god_n spiritual_o while_o in_o this_o life_n or_o body_n of_o flesh_n though_o they_o may_v be_v gracious_a gift_n of_o god_n and_o not_o to_o be_v abuse_v or_o neglect_v although_o the_o soul_n that_o feel_v they_o be_v not_o yet_o reform_v in_o feeling_n for_o it_o have_v not_o yet_o receive_v the_o gift_n of_o perfect_a and_o spiritual_a burn_a love_n to_o jesus_n christ_n as_o they_o may_v come_v to_o if_o they_o be_v faithful_a in_o it_o and_o yet_o they_o may_v feel_v more_o of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n than_o other_o that_o have_v that_o gift_n in_o the_o way_n towards_o perfect_a feeling_n in_o as_o much_o as_o the_o feel_n show_v more_o outward_o by_o their_o fervour_n in_o bodily_a token_n as_o in_o weep_v pray_v speak_a and_o other_o bodily_a stir_n and_o strive_n that_o some_o other_o will_v think_v they_o ravish_v with_o love_n etc._n etc._n yet_o still_o consider_v that_o these_o stir_n and_o strive_n be_v of_o god_n to_o stay_v they_o from_o the_o worldly_a love_n and_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n that_o have_v so_o long_o be_v root_v in_o their_o heart_n from_o which_o worldly_a love_n they_o may_v not_o be_v draw_v out_o by_o such_o feeble_a stir_n of_o great_a fervour_n and_o outward_a strength_n which_o be_v no_o true_a token_n of_o much_o love_n but_o of_o weakness_n and_o little_a love_n in_o their_o soul_n that_o can_v bear_v a_o little_a touch_v of_o god_n for_o it_o be_v yet_o fleshly_a and_o fasten_v thereto_o and_o not_o mortify_v there_o from_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n for_o the_o touch_n seem_v so_o quick_a and_o also_o delectable_a over_o all_o thing_n feel_v before_o in_o fleshly_a love_n of_o earthly_a thing_n that_o it_o be_v over-taken_a with_o it_o for_o that_o it_o be_v so_o new_a sudden_a and_o strange_a that_o the_o body_n can_v well_o bear_v it_o but_o break_v out_o into_o weep_n bodily_a stir_n and_o other_o action_n as_o christ_n say_v the_o old_a bottle_n will_v break_v and_o not_o hold_v the_o new_a wine_n but_o that_o god_n keep_v it_o whole_a in_o mercy_n let_v it_o break_v out_o into_o tear_n and_o word_n through_o weakness_n and_o feebleness_n of_o soul_n and_o not_o because_o of_o much_o love_n as_o some_o may_v suppose_v but_o afterward_o when_o through_o love_n the_o uncleanness_n be_v melt_v out_o of_o the_o soul_n by_o such_o fervour_n then_o be_v the_o love_n clear_a and_o stand_v still_o and_o then_o perfect_a love_n cast_v out_o fear_n then_o be_v the_o soul_n in_o peace_n and_o much_o more_o in_o love_n then_o before_o though_o it_o show_v less_o outward_a for_o it_o be_v now_o all_o whole_a at_z rest_z within_z and_o little_o appear_v outward_o for_o in_o the_o first_o state_n such_o feeling_n come_v to_o the_o soul_n sudden_o before_o it_o be_v well_o aware_a and_o as_o it_o come_v before_o the_o soul_n know_v it_o so_o it_o oft_o return_v or_o depart_v without_o its_o knowledge_n neither_o can_v the_o soul_n tell_v how_o to_o come_v to_o that_o state_n again_o no_o know_v where_o to_o find_v it_o for_o the_o thought_n be_v not_o yet_o keep_v within_o in_o the_o light_n with_o a_o firm_a long_a desire_n to_o jesus_n christ_n nor_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n keep_v open_a and_o near_o to_o the_o spiritual_a behold_v of_o heavenly_a thing_n and_o so_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o fix_v and_o than_o what_o weakness_n and_o unsuitableness_n be_v in_o all_o without_o stedfasness_n firm_a faith_n and_o full_a intent_n to_o god_n to_o know_v his_o secret_n and_o obey_v his_o will_n and_o it_o be_v always_o to_o be_v diligent_o mind_v that_o there_o be_v two_o manner_n of_o feeling_n the_o one_o inward_a according_a to_o man_n bodily_a wit_n and_o skill_n and_o the_o other_o more_o inward_a or_o within_o that_o be_v of_o spiritual_a light_n wisdom_n and_o skill_n which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n teach_v and_o plant_v in_o
the_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n so_o there_o be_v a_o meekness_n that_o be_v gain_v by_o the_o work_n of_o reason_n in_o fleshly_a feel_n and_o another_o that_o be_v deep_o feel_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o be_v the_o free_a and_o spiritual_a gift_n of_o love_n and_o it_o be_v a_o full_a hard_a thing_n and_o a_o great_a mystery_n to_o he_o that_o stand_v in_o the_o work_n of_o his_o own_o reason_n to_o keep_v constant_a rest_n and_o softness_n in_o his_o heart_n and_o charity_n to_o love_v man_n when_o they_o despise_v he_o without_o resist_v or_o repine_v thereat_o etc._n etc._n both_o these_o be_v of_o love_n but_o the_o first_o work_v by_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o second_o work_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o so_o the_o first_o be_v imperfect_a the_o second_o perfect_a the_o first_o meekness_n a_o man_n feel_v in_o behold_v his_o sin_n and_o wretchedness_n and_o judge_v himself_o unworthy_a of_o any_o mercy_n or_o good_a thing_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o as_o the_o worst_a of_o creature_n worthy_a of_o all_o suffering_n and_o thus_o thrust_v himself_o down_o under_o all_o other_o and_o grieve_v in_o his_o heart_n when_o he_o be_v overcome_v by_o any_o temptation_n confess_v accuse_v himself_o and_o ask_v forgiveness_n etc._n etc._n but_o this_o be_v not_o perfect_a meekness_n for_o it_o come_v of_o beginning_n to_o profit_n in_o grace_n cause_v by_o behold_v of_o sin_n and_o this_o be_v the_o meekness_n that_o love_n work_v by_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o perfect_a meekness_n the_o soul_n feel_v of_o the_o sight_n and_o spiritual_a knowledge_n of_o jesus_n christ_n see_v he_o to_o be_v all_o and_o do_v all_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o for_o it_o and_o have_v so_o great_a love_n and_o joy_n in_o that_o spiritual_a sight_n that_o it_o forget_v itself_o after_o a_o sort_n and_o lean_v to_o jesus_n christ_n with_o all_o the_o love_n it_o have_v to_o behold_v he_o and_o heed_v not_o any_o unworthiness_n or_o sin_n before_o do_v but_o set_v itself_o with_o all_o sin_n past_a and_o good_a deed_n also_o at_o nought_o as_o unworthy_a to_o be_v remember_v and_o judge_v no_o particular_a soul_n neither_o better_a nor_o worse_o they_o himself_o but_o love_v and_o help_v the_o good_a in_o all_o and_o every_o man_n therein_o and_o slight_v and_o despise_v all_o the_o joy_n and_o worship_n of_o this_o world_n as_o see_v it_o so_o little_a and_o nought_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o joy_n and_o love_v the_o soul_n feel_v in_o the_o spiritual_a sight_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o knowledge_n of_o his_o purity_n and_o holiness_n that_o though_o he_o may_v have_v all_o worldly_a joy_n and_o worship_n without_o sin_n yet_o he_o will_v not_o meddle_v with_o it_o the_o world_n have_v no_o savour_n in_o this_o meekness_n but_o be_v exceed_v far_o from_o it_o it_o be_v the_o lover_n of_o jesus_n christ_n only_a that_o have_v this_o meekness_n abide_v in_o he_o with_o like_n and_o gladness_n and_o that_o without_o any_o heaviness_n or_o stir_v for_o it_o but_o the_o world_n have_v a_o proud_a meekness_n belong_v to_o a_o hypocrite_n without_o this_o joy_n or_o gladness_n by_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o do_v heed_n the_o praise_n of_o man_n as_o also_o fear_v their_o dispraise_n take_v pleasure_n or_o displeasure_n thereat_o in_o themselves_o and_o it_o be_v like_o this_o be_v the_o snare_n that_o david_n pray_v to_o have_v his_o heart_n pluck_v out_o of_o and_o many_o that_o yet_o love_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n more_o than_o god_n or_o his_o praise_n do_v bestir_v themselves_o travel_n and_o labour_n with_o their_o will_n wit_n and_o affection_n and_o so_o think_v on_o god_n christ_n and_o outward_a exercise_n as_o it_o be_v by_o their_o strength_n to_o draw_v out_o of_o themselves_o a_o feeling_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n even_o by_o bodily_a force_n and_o mastery_n if_o that_o be_v possible_a but_o these_o love_v not_o spiritual_o nor_o be_v this_o a_o kindly_a or_o gracious_a work_n of_o love_n but_o a_o kind_n of_o maddo_n of_o the_o soul_n at_o reason_n bid_v which_o without_o meekness_n and_o forsake_v the_o love_n of_o earthly_a thing_n be_v very_o dangerous_a to_o beget_v spiritual_a pride_n which_o otherwise_o do_v in_o meekness_n of_o love_n and_o a_o loathe_n of_o all_o earthly_a affection_n may_v find_v favour_n with_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v by_o he_o change_v from_o man_n own_o work_n into_o spiritual_a working_n for_o as_o man_n can_v think_v a_o good_a thought_n of_o himself_o so_o he_o ought_v to_o forbear_v his_o own_o think_n word_n and_o work_n as_o not_o good_a and_o therefore_o can_v find_v no_o acceptance_n with_o god_n and_o wait_v with_o patience_n for_o the_o lord_n work_v in_o he_o to_o will_v and_o to_o do_v of_o his_o good_a pleasure_n all_o other_o working_n be_v to_o the_o soul_n great_a suffering_n and_o loss_n as_o the_o prophet_n say_v the_o kindle_v of_o fire_n with_o man_n own_o holy_a spirit_n will_v not_o believe_v how_o the_o virtue_n of_o meekness_n soberness_n chastity_n love_n and_o cleanness_n be_v wrought_v so_o quiet_o and_o sure_o without_o travel_n or_o painful_a labour_n of_o the_o body_n and_o bodily_a wit_n and_o therefore_o they_o labour_v and_o toil_n day_n after_o day_n with_o their_o reason_n and_o outward_a exercise_n in_o their_o own_o strength_n to_o get_v virtue_n and_o make_v love_n by_o word_n and_o other_o stir_n and_o what_o they_o seem_v so_o to_o get_v they_o have_v much_o more_o ado_n to_o keep_v with_o all_o their_o fight_n against_o sin_n contending_n for_o grace_n and_o wrangling_n about_o it_o and_o therefore_o be_v like_o wrestler_n sometime_o above_o and_o soon_o again_o underneath_o up_o and_o down_o in_o and_o out_o off_o and_o on_o get_v and_o lose_v and_o so_o weary_a their_o wit_n and_o tire_v themselves_o because_o all_o this_o strive_v be_v in_o their_o own_o reason_n might_n and_o strength_n of_o self-will_n as_o fight_n with_o themselves_o but_o neither_o in_o true_a savour_n nor_o love_n and_o therefore_o have_v not_o the_o victory_n or_o upper_a hand_n of_o what_o they_o strive_v about_o and_o such_o must_v loose_v the_o full_a rest_n because_o no_o man_n may_v so_o put_v himself_o full_o into_o god_n hand_n for_o that_o man_n see_v he_o not_o but_o his_o eye_n be_v shut_v he_o thereby_o close_v it_o
