convert_v these_o noble_a spirit_n these_o holy_a and_o glorious_a attendant_n of_o christ_n that_o shall_v wait_v upon_o he_o to_o judgement_n will_v be_v witness_n against_o rebellious_a sinner_n prefer_v before_o the_o service_n of_o god_n the_o worldly_a matter_n which_o have_v more_o of_o his_o heart_n then_o his_o maker_n and_o redeemer_n have_v the_o work_n which_o he_o be_v do_v when_o he_o shall_v have_v be_v pray_v or_o read_v or_o catechise_v his_o family_n or_o think_v sober_o of_o his_o latter_a end_n a_o thousand_o of_o these_o will_v then_o come_v into_o his_o mind_n and_o be_v as_o so_o many_o evidence_n against_o he_o to_o his_o condemnation_n 3._o the_o very_a effect_n also_o of_o man_n sin_n will_v be_v a_o evidence_n against_o they_o the_o wife_n and_o child_n of_o a_o drunkard_n be_v impoverish_v by_o his_o sin_n his_o family_n and_o the_o neighbourhood_n be_v disquiet_v by_o he_o these_o will_v be_v so_o many_o evidence_n against_o he_o so_o will_v the_o abuse_n of_o his_o own_o reason_n the_o entice_a of_o other_o to_o the_o same_o sin_n and_o harden_v they_o by_o his_o example_n one_o coveton_n unmerciful_a landlord_n do_v keep_v a_o hundred_o or_o many_o hundred_o person_n or_o family_n in_o so_o great_a necessity_n and_o care_n and_o labour_n that_o they_o be_v tempt_v by_o it_o to_o overpass_v the_o service_n of_o god_n as_o have_v scarce_o time_n for_o it_o or_o any_o room_n for_o it_o in_o their_o trouble_a thought_n all_o these_o miserable_a family_n and_o person_n and_o all_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v undo_v by_o this_o temptation_n will_v be_v so_o many_o evidence_n against_o such_o oppressor_n yea_o the_o poor_a who_o they_o have_v neglect_v to_o relieve_v when_o they_o may_v the_o sick_a who_o they_o have_v neglect_v to_o visit_v when_o they_o may_v will_v all_o witness_n then_o against_o the_o unmerciful_a mat._n 25._o the_o many_o ignorant_a worldly_a careless_a sinner_n that_o have_v perish_v under_o a_o idle_a and_o unfaithful_a minister_n will_v be_v so_o many_o witness_n against_o he_o to_o his_o condemnation_n they_o may_v then_o cry_v out_o against_o he_o to_o his_o face_n i_o be_v ignorant_a lord_n and_o he_o never_o do_v so_o much_o as_o teach_v i_o catechise_v i_o nor_o tell_v i_o of_o these_o thing_n i_o be_v careless_a and_o mind_v the_o world_n and_o he_o let_v i_o go_v on_o quiet_o and_o the_o feast_n be_v prepare_v and_o all_o thing_n be_v ready_a you_o make_v light_a of_o it_o and_o find_v excuse_n and_o will_v not_o come_v mat._n 22._o 4_o 5_o 6._o luke_n 14._o 17_o 18._o must_v christ_n redeem_v you_o by_o so_o dear_a a_o price_n from_o sin_n and_o misery_n and_o yet_o will_v you_o continue_v the_o servant_n of_o sin_n and_o prefer_v your_o slavery_n before_o your_o freedom_n and_o choose_v to_o be_v satan_n drudge_n rather_o than_o to_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n the_o sorrow_n and_o suffering_n that_o christ_n undergo_v for_o you_o will_v then_o prove_v the_o increase_n of_o your_o own_o sorrow_n as_o a_o neglect_a redeemer_n it_o be_v that_o he_o will_v condemn_v you_o and_o then_o you_o will_v be_v glad_a that_o it_o be_v but_o true_a doctrine_n that_o christ_n never_o die_v for_o you_o that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v condemn_v for_o refuse_v a_o redeemer_n and_o sin_v against_o he_o that_o shed_v his_o blood_n for_o you_o how_o deep_o will_v his_o wound_n then_o wound_v your_o conscience_n you_o will_v then_o remember_v that_o to_o this_o end_n he_o both_o â—yed_v rose_n and_o revive_v that_o he_o may_v be_v lord_n both_o of_o the_o clothes_n which_o cover_v they_o the_o house_n which_o they_o dwell_v in_o the_o beast_n that_o labour_v for_o they_o and_o all_o the_o creature_n that_o die_v for_o their_o use_n all_o these_o may_v rise_v up_o against_o they_o to_o their_o condemnation_n and_o the_o judge_n may_v thus_o expostulate_v with_o they_o do_v all_o these_o mercy_n deserve_v no_o more_o thanks_o shall_v you_o not_o have_v serve_v he_o that_o so_o liberal_o maintain_v you_o god_n think_v not_o all_o these_o too_o good_a for_o you_o and_o do_v you_o think_v your_o heart_n and_o service_n too_o good_a for_o he_o he_o served_z yous_z w_z the_o the_o weary_a labour_n of_o your_o fellow_n creature_n and_o shall_v you_o have_v grudge_v to_o bear_v his_o easy_a yoke_n they_o be_v your_o slave_n and_o drudge_n reâ—arded_v can_v you_o think_v with_o any_o reason_n that_o your_o soul_n shall_v do_v so_o much_o for_o a_o life_n of_o a_o few_o year_n continuance_n and_o do_v no_o more_o for_o a_o life_n that_o shall_v have_v no_o end_n 3._o and_o whereas_o you_o talk_v of_o trust_v god_n with_o your_o soul_n you_o do_v not_o trust_v he_o you_o do_v but_o on_o that_o pretence_n careless_o disregard_n they_o if_o you_o trust_v god_n show_v any_o word_n of_o promise_n that_o ever_o he_o give_v you_o to_o trust_v upon_o that_o ever_o a_o impenitent_a carnal_a careless_a person_n shall_v be_v save_v no_o he_o have_v tell_v yon_a enough_o to_o the_o contrary_n and_o can_v you_o think_v that_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n that_o you_o shall_v mind_v your_o body_n more_o than_o your_o soul_n and_o for_o the_o safety_n of_o your_o soul_n and_o for_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o where_o have_v he_o bid_v you_o do_v so_o for_o your_o body_n no_o he_o know_v that_o you_o be_v prone_a to_o do_v too_o much_o for_o they_o and_o therefore_o he_o have_v bid_v you_o care_n not_o and_o labour_v not_o that_o be_v do_v it_o as_o if_o you_o do_v it_o not_o and_o let_v your_o care_n and_o labour_n you_o and_o not_o say_v i_o will_v let_v all_o alone_a and_o trust_n god_n and_o must_v you_o not_o much_o more_o use_v diligence_n in_o much_o great_a thing_n if_o you_o will_v trust_v god_n you_o must_v trust_v he_o in_o his_o own_o way_n and_o in_o the_o use_n of_o his_o own_o mean_n the_o four_o excuse_n i_o be_v never_o bring_v up_o to_o learning_n i_o can_v so_o much_o as_o read_v nor_o they_o answ_n the_o great_a be_v their_o sin_n who_o thus_o neglect_v you_o but_o this_o be_v no_o sufficient_a excuse_n for_o you_o heaven_n be_v not_o prepare_v for_o the_o learned_a only_o nor_o will_v christ_n ask_v you_o at_o judgement_n whether_o you_o be_v good_a scholar_n or_o not_o no_o nor_o so_o much_o as_o whether_o you_o can_v write_v or_o read_v but_o consider_v well_o be_v not_o god_n word_n so_o plain_o write_v that_o the_o unlearned_a may_v understand_v it_o do_v he_o not_o put_v it_o into_o the_o most_o familiar_a stile_n though_o he_o know_v it_o will_v be_v offensive_a to_o the_o proud_a scholar_n of_o the_o world_n of_o purpose_n that_o he_o may_v fit_v it_o to_o the_o capacity_n of_o the_o ignorant_a and_o if_o you_o can_v not_o read_v yet_o tell_v i_o can_v not_o you_o have_v learned_a to_o read_v at_o 20_o or_o 30_o year_n of_o age_n if_o you_o have_v be_v but_o willing_a to_o bestow_v now_o and_o then_o a_o hour_n to_o that_o end_n or_o at_o least_o do_v you_o not_o live_v near_o some_o that_o can_v read_v and_o can_v you_o not_o have_v procure_v they_o to_o read_v to_o you_o or_o to_o help_v you_o and_o do_v you_o not_o hear_v these_o thing_n read_v to_o
actual_o unwilling_a if_o a_o man_n have_v so_o accustom_v himself_o to_o murder_v drunkeness_n steal_v or_o the_o like_a wickedness_n so_o far_o that_o he_o can_v leave_v it_o will_v you_o therefore_o forgive_v he_o or_o will_v any_o judge_n or_o jury_n hold_v he_o excuse_v or_o rather_o think_v he_o the_o more_o unfit_a for_o mercy_n 5._o note_v also_o that_o the_o want_n of_o a_o supernatural_a habit_n no_o nor_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o contrary_a habit_n do_v not_o efficient_o determine_v the_o will_n to_o particular_a act_n much_o less_o take_v away_o its_o natural_a freedom_n 6._o and_o that_o till_o habit_n attain_v a_o utter_a predominancy_n at_o least_o there_o be_v a_o power_n remain_v in_o the_o will_v to_o resist_v they_o and_o use_v mean_n against_o they_o though_o eventual_o the_o perverse_a inclination_n may_v hinder_v the_o use_n of_o it_o the_o three_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n i_o have_v hear_v from_o learned_a man_n that_o god_n do_v determine_v all_o action_n natural_a and_o free_a as_o the_o first_o efficient_a physical_a immediate_a cause_n or_o else_o nothing_o can_v act._n and_o then_o it_o be_v not_o long_o of_o i_o that_o i_o choose_v think_v may_v be_v say_v against_o it_o then_o for_o it_o 2._o i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v either_o false_a or_o reconcileable_a with_o god_n holiness_n and_o man_n liberty_n and_o culpability_n so_o that_o its_o a_o mad_a thing_n to_o deceive_v your_o self_n with_o such_o philosophical_a uncertainty_n when_o the_o truth_n which_o you_o oppose_v by_o it_o be_v infallible_o certain_a that_o god_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o sin_n but_o man_n himself_o who_o be_v just_o condemn_v for_o it_o be_v undoubted_o true_a and_o will_v you_o obscure_v so_o clear_a a_o truth_n by_o search_v into_o point_n beyond_o human_a reach_n if_o not_o unsound_a as_o you_o conclude_v they_o the_o four_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n but_o at_o least_o those_o learned_a divine_n among_o we_o that_o doubt_v of_o this_o do_v yet_o say_v that_o the_o will_n be_v necessary_o and_o infallble_o determine_v by_o the_o practical_a understanding_n and_o that_o be_v as_o much_o unresistible_o necessitate_v by_o object_n and_o therefore_o whatever_o act_n be_v do_v by_o my_o understanding_n or_o will_n be_v thus_o necessitate_v and_o i_o can_v not_o help_v it_o theâ—_n say_v liberty_n be_v but_o the_o act_n of_o the_o faculty_n aggreeable_o to_o its_o nature_n and_o it_o be_v god_n as_o creator_n that_o give_v adam_n his_o faculty_n and_o god_n by_o providential_a dtspose_n that_o present_v all_o object_n to_o he_o by_o which_o high_a understanding_n and_o so_o his_o will_n be_v unvoidable_o necessitate_v answ_n this_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o former_a uncertain_a if_o noâ—_n certain_o false_a be_v this_o true_a for_o aught_o we_o can_v see_v it_o will_v lay_v all_o the_o sin_n and_o misery_n of_o this_o world_n on_o god_n as_o the_o unresistible_a necessitate_v way_n of_o determine_v the_o will_n or_o if_o the_o understanding_n do_v determine_v the_o will_n efficient_o and_o necessary_o it_o be_v not_o every_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n that_o must_v do_v it_o if_o it_o be_v so_o when_o it_o say_v this_o must_v be_v do_v and_o say_v it_o importunate_o yet_o not_o when_o it_o only_o say_v this_o may_v be_v do_v or_o you_o may_v venture_v on_o it_o which_o be_v the_o common_a part_n which_o it_o have_v in_o sin_n i_o be_o not_o please_v that_o these_o curious_a objection_n fall_v in_o the_o way_n nor_o do_v i_o delight_v to_o put_v they_o into_o vulgar_a head_n but_o find_v many_o young_a scholar_n and_o other_o that_o have_v convert_v with_o they_o assault_v with_o these_o temptation_n i_o think_v meet_v to_o give_v a_o touch_n and_o but_o a_o touch_n to_o take_v they_o out_o of_o their_o way_n as_o mr._n fenner_n have_v do_v more_o full_o in_o the_o preface_n to_o his_o hide_a manna_n on_o this_o last_o point_n to_o which_o i_o refer_v you_o i_o only_o add_v this_o the_o will_n of_o man_n in_o its_o very_a dominion_n do_v bear_v god_n image_n it_o be_v a_o self_n determine_v power_n though_o it_o bias_v by_o habit_n and_o need_v a_o world_n to_o carry_v the_o gild_n of_o every_o crime_n to_o the_o will_n of_o man_n and_o there_o to_o leave_v it_o upon_o this_o all_o law_n and_o judgement_n be_v ground_v from_o ignorance_n and_o intellectual_a weakness_n man_n common_o fetch_v excuse_n for_o their_o fault_n but_o from_o the_o will_v they_o be_v aggravate_v if_o we_o think_v it_o strange_a that_o man_n will_n shall_v be_v the_o first_o cause_n so_o much_o as_o of_o a_o sinful_a mode_n and_o answer_v all_o occur_v objection_n it_o may_v suffice_v that_o we_o be_v certain_a the_o holy_a majesty_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o sin_n and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o make_v all_o this_o as_o plain_a as_o the_o sun_n and_o easy_o answer_v all_o these_o vain_a excuse_n though_o we_o shall_v be_v unable_a and_o if_o we_o be_v much_o ignorant_a of_o the_o frame_n and_o motion_n of_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o especial_o of_o that_o high_a self_n determine_v principle_n freewill_n the_o great_a spring_n of_o our_o action_n and_o the_o curious_a engine_n by_o which_o god_n do_v sapiential_o govern_v the_o world_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n consider_v that_o the_o soul_n can_v know_v itself_o but_o by_o reflection_n and_o god_n give_v we_o a_o soul_n to_o use_v rather_o than_o to_o know_v itself_o and_o to_o know_v its_o quality_n and_o operation_n rather_o than_o its_o essence_n the_o five_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n no_o man_n can_v be_v save_v nor_o avoid_v any_o sin_n nor_o believe_v in_o christ_n but_o those_o who_o god_n have_v predestinate_v thereto_o i_o be_v under_o a_o irreversible_a sentence_n before_o i_o be_v bear_v and_o therefore_o i_o do_v nothing_o but_o what_o i_o be_v predestinate_v to_o do_v and_o if_o god_n decree_v not_o to_o save_v i_o how_o can_v i_o help_v it_o answ_n 1._o god_n judgement_n be_v more_o plain_a but_o his_o decree_n or_o secret_a purpose_n be_v mysterious_a and_o to_o darken_v certainty_n by_o have_v recourse_n to_o point_n obscure_a be_v no_o part_n of_o it_o will_v be_v so_o with_o the_o great_a part_n of_o we_o and_o what_o be_v a_o year_n or_o two_o or_o a_o 100_o how_o speedy_o be_v it_o come_v how_o many_o a_o soul_n that_o be_v now_o in_o heaven_n or_o hell_n within_o a_o 1000_o year_n dwell_v in_o the_o place_n that_o you_o now_o dwell_v in_o and_o sit_v in_o the_o seat_n you_o now_o sit_v in_o and_o now_o their_o time_n be_v past_a what_o be_v it_o alas_o how_o quick_o will_v it_o be_v so_o with_o we_o you_o know_v not_o when_o you_o go_v to_o bed_n but_o you_o may_v be_v judge_v by_o the_o next_o morning_n or_o when_o you_o ask_v it_o serious_o qu._n but_o who_o be_v they_o that_o be_v ready_a how_o shall_v i_o know_v whether_o i_o be_v ready_a or_o not_o answ_n there_o be_v a_o twofold_a readiness_n 1._o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o safe_a case_n 2._o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o comfortable_a case_n in_o regard_n of_o that_o day_n the_o latter_a be_v very_o desirable_a but_o the_o first_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n this_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o you_o must_v principal_o inquire_v after_o in_o general_n all_o those_o and_o only_o those_o be_v ready_a for_o judgement_n who_o shall_v be_v justify_v and_o save_v and_o not_o condemn_v when_o judgement_n come_v they_o that_o have_v a_o good_a cause_n in_o a_o gospel_n sense_n it_o may_v be_v know_v before_o hand_n who_o these_o be_v for_o christ_n judge_v as_o i_o tell_v you_o by_o his_o law_n and_o therefore_o find_v out_o who_o it_o be_v that_o the_o law_n of_o grace_n do_v justify_v or_o condemn_v and_o you_o may_v certain_o know_v who_o
