church_n fall_v asleep_a in_o constantine_n his_o day_n in_o his_o lap_n and_o the_o child_n in_o the_o mother_n lap_n outward_a prosperity_n inward_a prosperity_n be_v not_o david_n slumber_v when_o he_o say_v i_o shall_v never_o be_v move_v and_o so_o 6._o job_n i_o say_v i_o shall_v die_v in_o my_o nest_n what_o not_o only_a when_o he_o have_v a_o outward_a flourish_a condition_n but_o when_o thus_o uniform_o grow_v one_o member_n as_o well_o as_o another_o now_o second_o for_o particular_a member_n they_o also_o grow_v and_o that_o uniform_o also_o grow_v not_o in_o one_o grace_n only_o or_o in_o this_o grace_n or_o that_o grace_n nor_o in_o another_o no_o but_o they_o grow_v uniform_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v all_o faith_n and_o no_o love_n it_o be_v impossible_a or_o all_o love_n and_o no_o knowledge_n it_o can_v be_v there_o must_v be_v a_o uniformity_n in_o growth_n if_o right_a that_o be_v more_o like_o a_o wen_n and_o its_o growth_n than_o growth_n of_o the_o body_n you_o will_v not_o esteem_v that_o a_o growth_n that_o a_o man_n shall_v grow_v all_o in_o the_o eye_n and_o it_o shall_v become_v as_o big_a as_o the_o body_n almost_o so_o that_o he_o can_v see_v wonderful_o but_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n the_o rest_n of_o the_o part_n be_v as_o small_a as_o when_o they_o be_v bear_v grow_v in_o one_o grace_n and_o grow_v in_o every_o grace_n grow_v in_o sincerity_n and_o grow_v in_o humility_n grow_v in_o faith_n and_o grow_v in_o love_n &_o grow_v in_o all_o a_o timpany_n a_o growth_n of_o one_o member_n more_o than_o all_o the_o rest_n be_v monstrous_a and_o so_o it_o will_v be_v in_o grace_n now_o though_o through_o defect_n or_o super_fw-la fluity_n in_o natural_a cause_n there_o may_v be_v a_o monstrosity_n in_o a_o birth_n or_o growth_n yet_o it_o can_v be_v in_o respect_n of_o christ_n who_o do_v alike_o extend_v his_o influence_n to_o the_o growth_n and_o increase_n
of_o one_o as_o well_o as_o another_o grace_n which_o he_o have_v beget_v in_o the_o soul_n so_o that_o if_o a_o man_n find_v he_o think_v he_o grow_v in_o faith_n and_o think_v he_o grow_v in_o love_n and_o yet_o grow_v not_o in_o zeal_n for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n grow_v not_o in_o tenderness_n of_o heart_n and_o plyableness_n to_o his_o will_n this_o be_v not_o a_o right_a growth_n alas_o how_o many_o of_o we_o then_o do_v not_o grow_v in_o grace_n indeed_o seven_o though_o there_o be_v a_o uniformity_n in_o growth_n yet_o we_o must_v not_o so_o understand_v it_o that_o every_o member_n grow_v in_o the_o same_o measure_n with_o another_o and_o yet_o may_v grow_v also_o in_o its_o due_a proportion_n and_o so_o also_o in_o respect_n of_o grace_n there_o may_v be_v somewhat_o of_o truth_n in_o it_o but_o to_o speak_v the_o more_o distinct_o first_o consider_v the_o member_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o ourselves_o if_o we_o be_v such_o indeed_o though_o all_o the_o member_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n do_v grow_v yet_o they_o do_v not_o grow_v all_o alike_o in_o the_o same_o measure_n the_o apostle_n say_v according_a to_o the_o effectual_a work_n in_o the_o measure_n of_o every_o part_n so_o that_o you_o see_v each_o part_n have_v 16._o a_o measure_n every_o member_n have_v not_o the_o same_o relation_n the_o same_o office_n in_o the_o body_n and_o so_o do_v not_o require_v the_o same_o measure_n of_o strength_n or_o the_o same_o quantity_n or_o greatness_n yea_o if_o it_o have_v a_o great_a quantity_n than_o be_v meet_v it_o be_v a_o burden_n and_o a_o hindrance_n as_o if_o the_o joint_n of_o a_o finger_n shall_v grow_v as_o much_o as_o the_o joint_n of_o a_o man_n knee_n will_v it_o not_o be_v monstrous_a and_o yet_o both_o joint_n grow_v but_o each_o according_a to_o its_o proportion_n so_o that_o they_o grow_v all_o â—que_n but_o not_o â—qualiteâ—_n one_o as_o well_o as_o another_o but_o not_o one_o as_o much_o as_o the_o rest_n grow_v this_o over-groweth_a its_o proportion_n it_o be_v true_a every_o child_n of_o god_n be_v not_o a_o david_n nor_o a_o paul_n nor_o be_v every_o one_o call_v to_o those_o great_a undertake_n that_o they_o be_v the_o more_o eminent_a place_n in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n we_o have_v the_o more_o we_o must_v look_v to_o it_o that_o we_o grow_v if_o a_o man_n be_v a_o magistrate_n or_o a_o minister_n i_o tell_v you_o brethren_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o they_o be_v as_o other_o man_n in_o grace_n and_o yet_o alas_o then_o what_o disproportion_n do_v some_o of_o we_o make_v in_o the_o body_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o stand_v in_o that_o relation_n to_o the_o body_n and_o yet_o o_o how_o do_v other_o member_n overgrow_v we_o brethren_n they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v blame_v for_o their_o grow_v so_o fast_o but_o we_o for_o our_o grow_a no_o fa_fw-it 〈…〉_z o_o nor_o any_o more_o proportionable_a to_o our_o relation_n for_o a_o magistrate_n to_o have_v no_o more_o courage_n nor_o zeal_n then_o another_o man_n that_o be_v not_o call_v so_o to_o put_v it_o forth_o be_v unsuitable_a and_o so_o for_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n and_o so_o for_o minister_n be_v we_o as_o arm_n in_o the_o body_n and_o have_v scarce_o the_o strength_n of_o a_o little_a finger_n o_o how_o can_v we_o work_v for_o christ_n do_v the_o work_n of_o our_o condition_n if_o you_o see_v some_o eminent_a as_o bless_a be_v his_o name_n there_o be_v eminent_a and_o have_v their_o measure_n of_o growth_n to_o their_o condition_n you_o shall_v be_v follower_n of_o they_o follow_v after_o as_o hard_a as_o you_o can_v therefore_o minister_n shall_v be_v ensample_n to_o the_o flock_n in_o faith_n in_o puriry_n in_o holiness_n 1_o tim._n 4._o 12._o a_o example_n to_o believe_v in_o word_n in_o conversation_n in_o faith_n in_o purity_n etc._n etc._n but_o alas_o brethren_n may_v we_o not_o rather_o some_o of_o we_o take_v example_n therein_o how_o weak_a be_v our_o faith_n yet_o i_o say_v where_o there_o be_v such_o of_o eminency_n and_o thou_o can_v not_o reach_v they_o yet_o be_v not_o discourage_v because_o thou_o can_v not_o get_v so_o much_o light_n as_o the_o eye_n have_v be_v not_o discourage_v it_o be_v require_v there_o more_o than_o in_o another_o nor_o so_o much_o strength_n as_o a_o arm_n a_o leg_n when_o thou_o be_v it_o may_v be_v but_o as_o a_o little_a finger_n only_o there_o may_v be_v a_o proportion_n yea_o i_o will_v tell_v you_o brethren_n pity_v we_o pray_v for_o we_o magistrates_n and_o minister_n for_o i_o do_v very_o believe_v there_o be_v none_o fall_v so_o much_o short_a of_o our_o proportion_n of_o growth_n in_o grace_n according_a to_o our_o relation_n as_o we_o do_v but_o this_o be_v but_o the_o first_o and_o then_o second_o for_o the_o grace_n in_o every_o believer_n now_o the_o measure_n of_o every_o grace_n its_o growth_n as_o i_o think_v be_v much_o more_o hard_a to_o determine_v whether_o all_o grace_n do_v grow_v according_a to_o the_o proportion_n of_o the_o growth_n of_o any_o one_o of_o they_o that_o be_v to_o say_v whether_o love_n to_o god_n and_o zeal_n to_o his_o glory_n do_v grow_v according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o every_o man_n faith_n and_o so_o patience_n according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o his_o faith_n indeed_o i_o be_o at_o a_o stand_v here_o if_o that_o one_o habit_n of_o grace_n do_v beget_v another_o faith_n do_v beget_v love_n it_o will_v be_v the_o more_o clear_a because_o then_o according_a to_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o cause_n the_o effect_n will_v be_v a_o strong_a cause_n a_o strong_a effect_n the_o habit_n of_o grace_n in_o we_o be_v not_o voluntary_a agent_n but_o i_o take_v it_o for_o grant_v that_o the_o efficient_a cause_n of_o all_o grace_n one_o in_o any_o grace_n now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v a_o most_o free_a agent_n be_v not_o tie_v up_o by_o a_o necessity_n of_o nature_n to_o work_v alike_o upon_o the_o same_o heart_n to_o the_o increase_n of_o every_o grace_n though_o he_o do_v work_v to_o the_o growth_n of_o every_o grace_n yet_o whether_o he_o do_v equal_o work_v to_o the_o increase_n of_o they_o all_o so_o that_o what_o proportion_n of_o grace_n a_o believer_n have_v in_o one_o grace_n he_o have_v the_o same_o proportion_n of_o strength_n in_o another_o be_v doubtful_a special_o since_o the_o lord_n who_o work_v in_o we_o both_o to_o will_v and_o to_o do_v of_o his_o own_o good_a pleasure_n know_v what_o trial_n he_o have_v for_o every_o one_o of_o we_o some_o in_o one_o kind_n some_o in_o another_o some_o great_a trial_n for_o their_o faith_n and_o some_o for_o their_o self-denial_n and_o some_o for_o their_o love_n may_z according_o work_n but_o this_o be_v not_o so_o much_o material_a if_o we_o can_v find_v we_o grow_v in_o every_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n whether_o we_o do_v grow_v alike_o in_o the_o measure_n of_o love_n as_o in_o the_o measure_n of_o faith_n or_o zeal_n or_o spiritualness_n as_o it_o will_v be_v very_o hard_a to_o judge_v consider_v how_o hard_o it_o be_v to_o judge_v of_o the_o strength_n of_o our_o habit_n by_o their_o act_n which_o may_v accidental_o be_v inter_v 〈…〉_z it_v and_o interrupt_v and_o consider_v whatever_o knowledge_n we_o have_v at_o the_o best_a of_o the_o faculty_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o their_o work_n and_o so_o of_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n in_o forth_o to_o convince_v the_o world_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o righteousness_n and_o 16._o of_o judgement_n and_o so_o say_v the_o apostle_n james_n he_o have_v beget_v we_o again_o of_o his_o own_o will_n by_o his_o word_n of_o truth_n and_o therefore_o by_o this_o mean_v grace_n be_v keep_v alive_a by_o our_o keep_v this_o knowledge_n and_o increase_v by_o the_o increase_n of_o this_o have_v chastened_a he_o and_o not_o suffer_v he_o to_o take_v the_o way_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n so_o shall_v it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n but_o consider_v how_o many_o sweet_a experience_n have_v thou_o have_v of_o his_o love_n which_o it_o may_v be_v many_o a_o poor_a creature_n will_v have_v give_v a_o world_n for_o one_o of_o they_o many_o a_o kiss_n of_o his_o lip_n thou_o scarce_o ever_o though_o he_o frown_v upon_o we_o though_o he_o seem_v to_o shake_v we_o off_o not_o to_o heed_v we_o nor_o regard_v we_o yet_o our_o soul_n it_o may_v be_v be_v sick_a of_o love_n for_o he_o we_o must_v follow_v he_o still_o but_o thou_o that_o have_v such_o fore-draught_n of_o his_o love_n sometime_o yea_o many_o time_n o_o the_o remembrance_n of_o these_o i_o think_v shall_v much_o be_v matter_n of_o rejoice_v to_o the_o saithful_a overseer_n of_o the_o church_n of_o 3._o christ_n we_o be_v bind_v to_o thank_v god_n always_o for_o you_o brethren_n as_o it_o be_v meet_v because_o not_o this_o the_o way_n to_o make_v he_o repent_v of_o the_o good_a he_o have_v do_v unto_o we_o and_o to_o withdraw_v they_o seven_o a_o very_a hypocrite_n brethren_n may_v grow_v in_o some_o thing_n and_o therefore_o we_o have_v need_n look_v to_o it_o to_o go_v beyond_o they_o in_o our_o growth_n a_o hypocrite_n may_v grow_v in_o part_n and_o gift_n may_v learn_v to_o pray_v and_o preach_v most_o plausible_o may_v make_v long_a prayer_n with_o those_o hypocrite_n though_o they_o grow_v not_o inward_o at_o all_o therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o stick_v here_o or_o because_o thou_o grow_v more_o civil_o escape_v the_o pollution_n of_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o alas_o be_v the_o same_o in_o disposition_n a_o swine_n in_o nature_n yea_o there_o may_v be_v a_o grow_v in_o assent_n to_o the_o truth_n such_o a_o say_v as_o the_o devil_n have_v which_o make_v they_o tremble_v and_o some_o kind_n of_o affection_n too_o as_o herod_n have_v but_o by_o how_o much_o we_o see_v there_o how_o quick_o be_v some_o man_n spirit_n up_o in_o duty_n like_o tinder_n to_o the_o fire_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o like_o the_o spirit_n of_o wine_n or_o oil_n quick_o fire_v therefore_o god_n will_v have_v the_o fat_a offer_v up_o it_o will_v quick_o take_v fire_n and_o when_o our_o service_n come_v off_o with_o delight_n and_o cheerfulness_n than_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v with_o it_o so_o you_o see_v they_o rejoice_v they_o be_v count_v worthy_a to_o suffer_v for_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n 41._o and_o yet_o a_o little_a before_o be_v so_o weak_a that_o they_o all_o forsake_v ebb_v and_o flow_v some_o man_n nature_n be_v more_o passionate_a apt_a to_o grieve_v to_o be_v affect_v with_o every_o little_a thing_n and_o there_o a_o little_a matter_n will_v set_v their_o misunderstand_v that_o place_n in_o mal._n 4._o and_o beside_o christ_n the_o messiah_n they_o expect_v another_o prophet_n before_o he_o as_o the_o ancient_n chrysost_n theoph._n cyril_n and_o beza_n also_o conceive_v and_o seem_v very_o plain_a in_o that_o place_n of_o john_n why_o do_v thou_o baptise_v if_o thou_o neither_o be_v elias_n nor_o that_o prophet_n nor_o yet_o the_o christ_n 25._o set_v forth_o himself_o the_o true_a the_o spiritual_a shewbread_n or_o bread_n of_o face_n if_o they_o have_v but_o stomach_n and_o appetite_n suitable_a to_o the_o necessity_n of_o their_o poor_a this_o sermon_n of_o he_o concern_v eat_n he_o flesh_n and_o drink_v his_o blood_n but_o say_v our_o saviour_n you_o believe_v not_o that_o be_v to_o say_v you_o will_v not_o take_v of_o this_o bread_n eat_v of_o it_o receive_v and_o apply_v the_o benefit_n of_o my_o death_n and_o resurrection_n and_o ascension_n and_o intercession_n and_o all_o i_o understand_v by_o this_o bread_n in_o a_o spiritual_a sense_n whereby_o the_o soul_n be_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n and_o this_o be_v a_o sad_a symptom_n unto_o they_o that_o they_o be_v not_o belong_v to_o god_n purpose_n of_o grace_n 14._o have_v not_o hear_v say_v the_o apostle_n and_o faith_n come_v by_o hear_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v the_o word_n of_o faith_n and_o therein_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n be_v reveal_v from_o faith_n to_o faith_n thereby_o wherein_o even_o in_o the_o gospel_n preach_v of_o which_o the_o apostle_n be_v not_o ashamed_a by_o the_o preach_v thereof_o poor_a 17._o creature_n o_o he_o can_v hold_v it_o 3._o it_o teach_v yet_o further_o and_o the_o poor_a soul_n learn_v this_o also_o effectual_o that_o there_o be_v no_o help_n for_o he_o in_o the_o creature_n neither_o in_o himself_o nor_o in_o any_o other_o if_o he_o take_v the_o quintessence_n of_o all_o his_o work_n which_o we_o usual_o before_o have_v a_o high_a esteem_n of_o and_o temper_v they_o together_o alas_o they_o will_v not_o make_v a_o balsom_a for_o this_o wound_n now_o all_o the_o spirit_n in_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n if_o they_o can_v be_v extract_v i_o mean_v the_o comfort_n that_o may_v arise_v from_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o they_o will_v not_o keep_v the_o poor_a languish_a soul_n from_o faint_v and_o die_v water_n of_o the_o full_a cup_n let_v they_o overflow_v never_o so_o much_o if_o a_o man_n have_v river_n of_o pleasure_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o creature-comfort_n honour_n relation_n part_n learning_n gift_n whatsoever_o they_o be_v alas_o the_o poor_a creature_n be_v now_o teach_v they_o will_v not_o quench_v this_o spark_n that_o be_v get_v into_o the_o conscience_n i_o mean_v they_o will_v not_o allay_v the_o trouble_n of_o his_o spirit_n will_v not_o heal_v the_o wound_n of_o his_o spirit_n so_o that_o now_o he_o know_v not_o what_o to_o do_v the_o hart_n they_o say_v if_o smite_v with_o a_o arrow_n go_v to_o her_o herb_n to_o cause_v the_o arrow_n to_o fall_v out_o and_o other_o creature_n be_v poison_v sting_v sick_a distemper_a run_v to_o their_o cure_n by_o a_o natural_a instinct_n but_o now_o when_o god_n have_v shoot_v this_o arrow_n into_o a_o poor_a soul_n it_o wound_v too_o deep_a stick_v too_o fast_o for_o the_o tooth_n of_o any_o creature_n to_o pluck_v it_o out_o or_o for_o the_o virtue_n of_o any_o creature_n yea_o they_o be_v so_o far_o from_o heal_v that_o rather_o the_o consideration_n of_o they_o be_v as_o oil_n to_o the_o flame_n to_o vex_v and_o wound_v so_o much_o the_o more_o well_o this_o be_v much_o to_o be_v teach_v he_o that_o learn_v this_o effectual_o and_o not_o in_o the_o notion_n only_o go_v far_o there_o be_v many_o convince_v of_o their_o wound_n their_o bleed_a die_a condition_n but_o they_o imagine_v there_o be_v help_v to_o be_v have_v in_o something_o else_o they_o run_v to_o a_o duty_n of_o their_o own_o as_o if_o a_o day_n of_o fast_v will_v make_v amends_o for_o all_o run_v
