over_o they_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o general_a frame_n sect_n 2._o now_o come_v we_o to_o the_o particular_a part_n and_o therein_o let_v we_o consider_v i._o those_o that_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o rest_n namely_o the_o blood_n and_o spirit_n 1._o for_o the_o blood_n you_o know_v it_o be_v a_o excellent_a part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o of_o absolute_a necessity_n insomuch_o that_o the_o blood_n be_v say_v to_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o body_n which_o must_v not_o be_v understand_v direct_o as_o the_o word_n seem_v to_o imply_v as_o if_o the_o life_n of_o a_o man_n be_v nothing_o but_o his_o blood_n for_o that_o be_v not_o possible_a if_o that_o be_v so_o then_o nothing_o can_v live_v which_o have_v no_o blood_n but_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o bee_n and_o many_o other_o like_o creature_n have_v no_o blood_n and_o yet_o have_v life_n it_o will_v also_o follow_v that_o so_o many_o drop_n of_o a_o man_n blood_n as_o he_o lose_v so_o much_o he_o lose_v of_o his_o life_n whereas_o many_o time_n the_o evacuation_n of_o blood_n be_v the_o preservation_n of_o life_n and_o that_o which_o be_v most_o absurd_a it_o will_v follow_v that_o a_o man_n life_n may_v be_v sever_v from_o he_o and_o yet_o remain_v for_o a_o time_n after_o such_o separation_n for_o so_o you_o see_v that_o the_o blood_n of_o man_n and_o of_o other_o creature_n may_v be_v keep_v a_o long_a time_n in_o vessel_n after_o it_o be_v sever_v from_o the_o body_n and_o beside_o all_o this_o the_o angel_n who_o have_v neither_o blood_n nor_o other_o bodily_a part_n have_v life_n in_o great_a perfection_n than_o a_o man_n thus_o than_o we_o understand_v these_o place_n that_o speak_v of_o the_o the_o blood_n that_o it_o be_v a_o special_a instrument_n of_o the_o soul_n whereby_o life_n be_v convey_v to_o the_o several_a part_n of_o the_o body_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o airy_a invisible_a substance_n yet_o bodily_a arise_v like_o vapour_n â—rom_o the_o pure_a part_n of_o the_o blood_n for_o although_o it_o be_v say_v the_o life_n be_v in_o the_o blood_n yet_o this_o be_v because_o the_o blood_n be_v a_o thing_n which_o be_v more_o obvious_a to_o the_o sense_n than_o the_o spirit_n and_o again_o because_o it_o be_v the_o nursery_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o fuel_n of_o the_o spirit_n whereby_o as_o by_o a_o precious_a oil_n the_o lamp_n and_o flame_n of_o life_n be_v cherish_v and_o maintain_v so_o that_o life_n be_v more_o immediate_o in_o the_o spirit_n than_o in_o the_o blood_n again_o life_n be_v lose_v by_o the_o shed_n of_o the_o blood_n because_o the_o spirit_n the_o immediate_a instrument_n of_o the_o soul_n whereby_o it_o communicate_v life_n to_o the_o body_n be_v extinguish_v by_o the_o shed_n of_o the_o blood_n even_o as_o the_o flame_n go_v out_o when_o the_o wood_n be_v quiâ—e_o take_v away_o and_o so_o in_o this_o respect_n also_o the_o blood_n be_v say_v to_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o creature_n moreover_o consider_v the_o spirit_n whereof_o somewhat_o have_v already_o be_v speak_v by_o the_o way_n these_o be_v call_v spirit_n not_o but_o that_o they_o be_v bodily_a substance_n but_o because_o they_o have_v the_o least_o grossness_n in_o they_o of_o all_o other_o part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o come_v near_a to_o a_o spiritual_a nature_n and_o these_o be_v indeed_o the_o immediate_a instrument_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o be_v as_o it_o be_v of_o a_o middle_a nature_n between_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n they_o be_v a_o common_a tie_n or_o bond_n between_o they_o both_o unite_n both_o together_o these_o be_v of_o most_o excellent_a use_n in_o the_o body_n throughout_o the_o part_n they_o convey_v life_n sense_n and_o motion_n to_o they_o all_o they_o be_v in_o special_a manner_n employ_v in_o the_o more_o retire_v and_o spiritual_a action_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o exercise_n of_o reason_n and_o understanding_n in_o the_o serious_a thought_n and_o meditation_n of_o the_o heart_n by_o it_o the_o pain_n or_o delight_n of_o one_o part_n of_o the_o body_n be_v convey_v and_o impart_v to_o the_o rest_n and_o a_o sympathy_n or_o fellow_n feeling_n be_v derive_v from_o one_o to_o the_o other_o and_o in_o these_o the_o singular_a wisdom_n of_o the_o creator_n be_v notable_o manifest_v sect_n 3._o the_o part_n contain_v these_o be_v in_o the_o next_o place_n to_o be_v consider_v where_o first_o the_o head_n be_v that_o which_o be_v set_v in_o the_o high_a place_n and_o be_v full_a of_o most_o curious_a workmanship_n it_o be_v the_o seat_n both_o of_o the_o outward_a and_o inward_a sense_n and_o as_o all_o the_o outward_a sense_n be_v place_v there_o so_o none_o of_o the_o five_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o any_o other_o part_n of_o the_o body_n except_o that_o of_o the_o touch_n or_o feeling_n which_o be_v the_o low_a and_o gross_a of_o the_o rest_n there_o be_v the_o eye_n of_o a_o singular_a and_o most_o curious_a make_n which_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o see_v the_o very_a window_n of_o this_o house_n that_o let_v in_o light_n to_o the_o soul_n which_o otherwise_o will_v dwell_v in_o a_o dark_a dungeon_n it_o be_v a_o admirable_a thing_n to_o consider_v how_o by_o the_o wonderful_a power_n and_o wisdom_n of_o god_n all_o colour_n have_v his_o property_n to_o caff_v forth_o a_o resemblance_n and_o image_n of_o themselves_o whicâ—_n by_o the_o air_n be_v convey_v into_o the_o eye_n if_o this_o be_v well_o consider_v and_o understand_v it_o will_v be_v find_v one_o of_o the_o most_o wonderful_a work_n of_o the_o creation_n set_v forth_o the_o creator_n glory_n but_o you_o may_v conceive_v it_o thus_o when_o a_o looking-glass_n be_v hold_v before_o the_o face_n instant_o there_o be_v a_o image_n of_o the_o face_n in_o the_o glass_n now_o the_o glass_n can_v frame_v such_o a_o image_n in_o itself_o for_o than_o it_o shall_v be_v there_o as_o well_o when_o the_o face_n be_v turn_v away_o wherefore_o it_o must_v be_v of_o necessity_n that_o the_o face_n do_v at_o all_o time_n in_o the_o light_n cast_v forth_o a_o image_n of_o itself_o and_o the_o glass_n do_v only_o hold_v it_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o lead_n at_o the_o backside_n whereby_o this_o image_n be_v stay_v and_o not_o suffer_v to_o pass_v through_o and_o vanish_v and_o so_o do_v every_o thing_n that_o have_v colour_n cast_v forth_o consider_v that_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v tree_n plant_n man_n beast_n etc._n etc._n whatsoever_o can_v be_v see_v do_v every_o way_n cast_v forth_o image_n of_o themselves_o into_o the_o air_n and_o that_o these_o be_v several_o and_o distinct_o convey_v to_o the_o eye_n and_o discern_v by_o it_o there_o be_v the_o ear_n whereby_o we_o hear_v which_o take_v in_o sound_n and_o noise_n in_o a_o wonderful_a manner_n wherein_o also_o the_o admirable_a power_n and_o wisdom_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o that_o one_o voice_n issue_v out_o of_o one_o mouth_n shall_v enter_v in_o at_o many_o hundred_o ear_n for_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v grant_v that_o we_o can_v hear_v any_o voice_n or_o noise_n unless_o it_o true_o enter_v into_o our_o ear_n for_o if_o the_o noise_n can_v be_v hear_v without_o such_o a_o entrance_n than_o be_v those_o open_a passage_n needless_a which_o be_v in_o the_o ear_n but_o these_o open_a passage_n be_v as_o needful_a to_o let_v in_o sound_n as_o a_o door_n be_v to_o let_v a_o man_n into_o a_o house_n now_o one_o man_n can_v enter_v in_o at_o many_o door_n at_o once_o and_o so_o one_o voice_n remain_v one_o can_v enter_v in_o at_o many_o hundred_o ear_n at_o the_o same_o moment_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v multiply_v in_o the_o air_n and_o so_o that_o which_o be_v but_o one_o in_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o speaker_n be_v manifold_a in_o the_o air_n and_o be_v take_v in_o by_o many_o ear_n there_o be_v also_o the_o nose_n which_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o smell_v another_o part_n of_o the_o body_n which_o serve_v we_o both_o for_o necessity_n and_o delight_n it_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o prove_v the_o wholsomness_n or_o unwholsomness_n of_o many_o thing_n which_o be_v good_a and_o which_o be_v hurtful_a to_o we_o and_o yield_v delight_n and_o refreshment_n in_o present_v we_o with_o many_o please_a and_o fragrant_a smell_n there_o be_v also_o the_o tongue_n and_o palate_n the_o instrument_n of_o taste_n but_o especial_o the_o palate_n or_o upper_a part_n of_o the_o mouth_n the_o tongue_n have_v another_o and_o more_o proper_a use_n this_o be_v a_o sense_n of_o great_a use_n for_o
light_n at_o the_o first_o so_o that_o this_o i_o conceive_v at_o the_o first_o be_v make_v that_o huge_a orb_n or_o sphere_n of_o heaven_n without_o sun_n moon_n or_o star_n and_o together_o with_o it_o the_o common_a matter_n of_o all_o inferior_a body_n for_o first_o he_o say_v the_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v make_v but_o he_o do_v not_o say_v that_o the_o heaven_n but_o the_o earth_n only_o be_v without_o form_n and_o void_a and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n move_v upon_o the_o water_n or_o hover_v over_o this_o mix_a mass_n of_o earth_n &_o water_n as_o the_o bird_n over_o her_o egg_n by_o its_o divine_a virtue_n frame_v and_o shaâ—â—ng_v distinct_a and_o several_a sort_n of_o creature_n out_o of_o this_o common_a lump_n on_o this_o first_o day_n be_v the_o light_n create_v as_o a_o active_a instrument_n to_o distinguish_v time_n and_o as_o i_o conceive_v so_o also_o to_o be_v use_v in_o bring_v forth_o distinct_a and_o special_a creature_n by_o virtue_n of_o a_o quicken_a operative_a heat_n accompany_v this_o light_n this_o light_n you_o see_v be_v before_o the_o sun_n which_o be_v not_o create_v until_o the_o four_o day_n and_o in_o probability_n this_o light_n be_v fâ—xed_v and_o radicate_v in_o the_o heaven_n and_o so_o shine_v here_o upon_o this_o confuse_a heap_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o water_n for_o have_v it_o be_v without_o a_o subject_n scatter_v abroad_o throughout_o the_o vast_a and_o void_a empty_a space_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n on_o every_o side_n where_o have_v the_o distinction_n be_v between_o day_n and_o night_n and_o therefore_o i_o conceive_v that_o this_o excellent_a creature_n be_v seat_v in_o heaven_n by_o the_o father_n of_o light_n do_v shine_v upon_o half_a the_o earth_n at_o once_o as_o now_o the_o sun_n do_v and_o so_o be_v carry_v about_o with_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o heaven_n and_o make_v day_n where_o it_o shine_v and_o leave_v the_o night_n there_o whence_o it_o remove_v so_o that_o while_o the_o earth_n continue_v without_o form_n and_o have_v its_o face_n coveâ—ed_v with_o darkness_n there_o be_v the_o first_o evening_n and_o when_o the_o light_n be_v make_v and_o show_v upon_o the_o earth_n out_o of_o darkness_n there_o be_v the_o first_o morning_n and_o this_o evening_n and_o morning_n be_v the_o first_o day_n sect_n 2._o in_o the_o second_o place_n be_v to_o be_v consider_v the_o distinction_n and_o division_n between_o the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o water_n 1._o the_o division_n of_o the_o upper_a part_n of_o the_o water_n from_o the_o low_a part_n of_o the_o same_o which_o be_v by_o the_o firmament_n or_o body_n of_o the_o air_n which_o god_n make_v between_o the_o upper_a and_o low_a part_n of_o the_o water_n which_o i_o apprehend_v thus_o that_o although_o the_o earth_n and_o water_n lay_v confuse_v together_o in_o one_o heap_n yet_o the_o thin_a part_n of_o this_o lump_n come_v near_o the_o nature_n of_o water_n be_v raise_v to_o the_o upper_a part_n and_o that_o these_o muddy_a water_n lie_v in_o a_o huge_a heap_n above_o the_o grâ—sser_n and_o more_o earthy_a part_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v penetrate_v into_o they_o and_o bâ—_n his_o virtue_n rary_o the_o middle_a part_n of_o this_o watery_a matter_n turn_v it_o into_o a_o huge_a spacious_a but_o much_o pure_a and_o thin_a body_n of_o the_o air_n which_o be_v call_v a_o expansion_n or_o out-spread_a cover_v whereby_o a_o separation_n be_v make_v between_o the_o waterish_a matter_n compass_v and_o hide_v under_o it_o the_o whole_a earth_n on_o every_o side_n and_o the_o upper_a part_n of_o the_o water_n which_o in_o cloud_n and_o exhalation_n be_v draw_v and_o raise_v up_o some_o high_a some_o low_a above_o some_o part_n of_o this_o air_n or_o cover_v and_o this_o firmament_n be_v call_v heaven_n even_o the_o same_o speak_v of_o elsewhere_o in_o scripture_n the_o heaven_n shâ—ll_v hear_v the_o earth_n hos._n 2_o 21._o that_o be_v the_o air_n shall_v shower_v down_o fattâ—ning_a shower_n upon_o the_o earth_n and_o so_o we_o â—ead_a of_o the_o fowl_n of_o heaven_n that_o be_v of_o the_o air_n as_o s._n paul_n also_o call_v the_o heaven_n of_o the_o blessed_a saint_n and_o angel_n the_o three_o heaven_n aâ—d_v â—o_o proportionable_o that_o which_o be_v the_o place_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o star_n be_v the_o second_o and_o this_o of_o the_o air_n here_o mention_v be_v the_o first_o heaven_n and_o this_o evening_n and_o morning_n wherein_o this_o be_v doâ—e_n be_v the_o second_o day_n though_o yet_o without_o a_o sun_n 2._o as_o there_o be_v a_o distinction_n of_o the_o upper_a and_o low_a part_n of_o the_o water_n so_o now_o of_o the_o water_n from_o the_o earth_n the_o water_n â—hat_n encompass_v &_o whole_o overwhelm_v the_o earth_n which_o shall_v now_o henceforth_o become_v a_o fountain_n of_o light_n both_o to_o other_o star_n and_o to_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o woâ—ld_n by_o which_o the_o day_n shall_v be_v rule_v and_o then_o a_o lâ—sser_a light_n though_o in_o appearance_n great_a to_o we_o at_o a_o near_a distance_n than_o other_o stâ—rs_n even_o the_o moon_n to_o rule_v the_o night_n so_o that_o now_o there_o shall_v embrace_v the_o opinion_n of_o parâ—â—s_n genes_n who_o acknowledge_v the_o star_n to_o have_v a_o threefold_n kind_a of_o signification_n natural_a civil_a divine_a 1._o natural_a as_o they_o from_o this_o four_o day_n to_o the_o last_o day_n the_o day_n of_o judgement_n by_o encompass_v the_o earth_n in_o twenty_o and_o four_o hour_n make_v a_o natural_a day_n complete_a and_o by_o a_o full_a revolution_n to_o the_o same_o point_n where_o it_o begin_v make_v a_o full_a year_n iv._o to_o give_v light_n to_o the_o earth_n without_o which_o all_o the_o creature_n will_v be_v in_o mass_n and_o lump_n of_o thing_n not_o distinct_o order_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o time_n distinct_o measure_v viz._n on_o the_o first_o day_n of_o time_n be_v the_o beginning_n of_o the_o distinct_a of_o light_n as_o many_o time_n in_o beauty_n strength_n wit_n outward_a carriage_n policy_n civil_a deportment_n etc._n etc._n yet_o the_o mean_a true_a christian_a be_v more_o excellent_a than_o his_o best_a carnal_a neighbour_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o image_n of_o god_n restore_v to_o he_o 7._o again_o see_v the_o beast_n have_v those_o pleasure_n whereof_o the_o sense_n be_v capable_a
