he_o will_v do_v it_o in_o the_o fit_a season_n such_o be_v the_o exigence_n of_o the_o church_n and_o people_n of_o god_n that_o they_o require_v a_o sharp_a visitation_n and_o therefore_o such_o be_v god_n love_n that_o he_o appoint_v out_o a_o certain_a time_n for_o they_o 3._o from_o the_o different_a condition_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o ungodly_a in_o suffer_v both_o suffer_v but_o differ_v much_o 1._o in_o order_n god_n begin_v with_o his_o own_o house_n 2_o in_o measure_n where_o shall_v the_o ungodly_a appear_v their_o judgement_n shall_v be_v most_o terrible_a &_o certain_a it_o be_v set_v down_o by_o way_n of_o interrogation_n and_o admiration_n what_o shall_v their_o end_n beâ—_n and_o as_o pharaoh_n dream_v weâ—â—_n double_v for_o more_o certainty_n 〈◊〉_d here_o be_v a_o double_a question_n to_o make_v the_o matter_n more_o out_o of_o question_n 1._o what_o shall_v their_o end_n be_v that_o obey_v not_o the_o gospel_n 2._o where_o shall_v the_o ungodly_a and_o sinner_n appear_v here_o be_v no_o unnecessary_a waste_n of_o word_n and_o argument_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n know_v that_o all_o be_v little_a enough_o to_o fortify_v the_o soul_n against_o the_o evil_a day_n unless_o the_o soul_n be_v well_o ballace_v it_o will_v soon_o be_v overturn_v when_o storm_n arise_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n in_o these_o three_o verse_n set_v down_o 1._o some_o foundation_n of_o comfort_n and_o 2._o a_o encouragement_n to_o build_v upon_o they_o wherefore_o let_v they_o that_o suffer_v etc._n etc._n the_o point_v considerable_a in_o the_o 17._o below_o wherein_o he_o manifest_v his_o grace_n yea_o the_o whole_a world_n in_o a_o sort_n be_v his_o house_n because_o he_o manifest_v his_o power_n and_o wisdom_n in_o it_o but_o heaven_n and_o his_o church_n in_o a_o more_o peculiar_a manner_n and_o that_o in_o these_o respect_n 1._o reason_n because_o god_n by_o his_o grace_n have_v residence_n in_o his_o church_n 2._o because_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n the_o word_n and_o sacramets_n there_o administer_v he_o do_v seed_v his_o church_n as_o in_o a_o house_n 3._o a_o man_n rest_v and_o take_v contentment_n
not_o i_o i_o thank_v god_n there_o be_v mercy_n in_o christ_n and_o i_o hope_v for_o pardon_n etc._n etc._n belove_a here_o be_v the_o bane_n of_o man_n â—oules_n they_o will_v be_v their_o own_o carver_n and_o take_v of_o the_o gospel_n what_o they_o list_v oh_o so_o much_o of_o christ_n as_o concern_v their_o own_o good_a they_o will_v have_v so_o much_o as_o concern_v their_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n so_o much_o as_o they_o may_v have_v and_o be_v proud_a too_o and_o be_v devilish_a and_o evil_a in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n too_o this_o they_o allow_v of_o and_o it_o be_v pity_n he_o shall_v live_v that_o regard_v not_o christ_n in_o justification_n but_o so_o much_o as_o concern_v mortification_n &_o self-denial_a as_o cross_n they_o in_o their_o sinful_a course_n this_o they_o be_v stranger_n to_o but_o we_o must_v know_v the_o gospel_n do_v not_o only_o bring_v salvation_n but_o it_o teach_v a_o man_n to_o deny_v ungodliness_n &_o worldly_a lâ—sts_n and_o not_o be_v cross_v so_o long_o they_o be_v content_a that_o christ_n and_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v they_o but_o otherwise_o if_o they_o can_v enjoy_v christ_n upon_o their_o own_o term_n that_o be_v if_o they_o can_v go_v to_o heaven_n and_o to_o hell_n too_o they_o will_v rather_o regard_v their_o own_o profit_n and_o pleasure_n than_o regard_n christ._n oh_o how_o do_v these_o poor_a wretch_n delude_v their_o own_o soul_n belove_v the_o embrace_n and_o obey_v the_o gospel_n be_v a_o spiritual_a marriage_n betwixt_o christ_n and_o the_o believer_n now_o you_o know_v in_o of_o heaven_n yet_o notwithstanding_o satan_n have_v so_o bewitch_v many_o poor_a wretch_n that_o they_o think_v their_o case_n be_v good_a and_o all_o shall_v go_v well_o with_o they_o be_v their_o life_n never_o so_o loose_a and_o opposite_a to_o the_o way_n of_o god_n they_o bless_v themselves_o when_o god_n do_v not_o bless_v they_o but_o rather_o curse_v they_o to_o their_o face_n the_o devil_n himself_o be_v likely_a to_o be_v save_v as_o soon_o as_o such_o graceless_a person_n as_o these_o without_o repentance_n no_o no_o if_o ever_o they_o expect_v a_o pardon_n they_o must_v live_v as_o subject_n if_o they_o frame_v not_o themselves_o to_o be_v guide_v by_o christ_n and_o come_v under_o his_o government_n to_o be_v rule_v according_a to_o his_o will_n they_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o mercy_n and_o salvation_n those_o my_o enemy_n that_o will_v not_o have_v i_o rule_v over_o they_o bring_v they_o hither_o and_o slay_v they_o before_o i_o 27._o etc._n etc._n we_o mock_v christ_n if_o we_o will_v not_o suffer_v he_o to_o rule_v we_o but_o i_o can_v obey_v the_o gospel_n of_o myself_o object_n it_o be_v true_a answ._n we_o can_v no_o more_o than_o we_o can_v obey_v the_o law_n nay_o it_o be_v hard_a to_o obey_v the_o gospel_n then_o to_o obey_v the_o law_n in_o a_o man_n own_o strength_n for_o there_o be_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o law_n in_o strength_n be_v require_v to_o plant_v the_o excellent_a grace_n of_o faith_n in_o our_o heart_n but_o though_o we_o be_v as_o unable_a to_o believe_v and_o obey_v the_o gospel_n as_o the_o law_n yet_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n together_o with_o the_o unfolding_n of_o our_o misery_n by_o the_o gospel_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n go_v along_o to_o sustain_v we_o the_o law_n find_v we_o dead_a and_o give_v we_o no_o strength_n but_o leave_v a_o man_n curse_a still_o the_o gospel_n likewise_o find_v we_o dead_a but_o it_o leave_v we_o not_o so_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o spirit_n 5._o receive_v you_o the_o spirit_n by_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o gospel_n god_n bless_a spirit_n go_v together_o with_o the_o sweet_a message_n of_o salvation_n and_o eternal_a life_n and_o this_o spirit_n do_v not_o only_o open_v our_o understanding_n but_o incline_v and_o bend_v our_o will_n and_o affection_n to_o embrace_v the_o truth_n that_o please_a man_n to_o displease_v god_n perhaps_o a_o little_a ease_n for_o the_o present_a alas_o what_o be_v this_o to_o that_o unexpressible_a horror_n and_o despair_n which_o will_v one_o day_n
