wherein_o though_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o we_o to_o do_v as_o we_o be_v wont_a and_o that_o we_o be_v not_o hinder_v by_o any_o fault_n in_o our_o will_n but_o by_o this_o disability_n upon_o yourself_o for_o which_o you_o can_v now_o be_v humble_v as_o you_o desire_v but_o i_o hope_v my_o friend_n that_o you_o take_v such_o a_o exact_a view_n of_o your_o life_n that_o sickness_n will_v not_o let_v you_o see_v any_o fault_n that_o be_v not_o visible_a to_o you_o before_o and_o i_o know_v you_o to_o be_v wise_a than_o to_o torment_v yourself_o with_o a_o of_o our_o heaviness_n at_o certain_a season_n which_o i_o have_v noâ—_n yet_o name_v and_o that_o be_v the_o withhold_v in_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o thaâ—_n strength_n and_o power_n which_o be_v upon_o we_o from_o the_o holy-ghost_n to_o raise_v and_o elevate_v we_o to_o a_o high_a pitch_n of_o love_n activity_n and_o joy_n in_o well_o do_v for_o as_o the_o help_n of_o that_o do_v lift_v we_o up_o above_o ourselves_o so_o when_o it_o much_o abate_v we_o be_v apt_a to_o fall_v as_o much_o below_o ourselves_o and_o to_o be_v surprise_v with_o sadness_n and_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n to_o see_v ourselves_o so_o strange_o change_v and_o this_o may_v be_v deny_v we_o for_o several_a cause_n either_o because_o we_o have_v not_o improve_v it_o so_o well_o as_o we_o may_v or_o because_o our_o lord_n see_v that_o our_o nature_n can_v bear_v always_o such_o extraordinary_a motion_n or_o that_o he_o may_v make_v we_o more_o sensible_a of_o his_o favour_n and_o raise_v their_o price_n and_o value_n in_o our_o esteem_n or_o that_o he_o may_v try_v our_o strength_n as_o a_o mother_n let_v we_o go_v she_o hold_v of_o the_o child_n to_o make_v it_o feel_v its_o foot_n or_o that_o he_o may_v thereby_o bow_v our_o will_n more_o absolute_o to_o he_o and_o break_v our_o self-love_n which_o desire_v nothing_o but_o pleasure_n or_o that_o he_o may_v prove_v whether_o we_o will_v love_v he_o for_o himself_o and_o not_o for_o the_o delicate_a entertainment_n which_o he_o give_v we_o or_o for_o some_o such_o cause_n unknown_a to_o you_o and_o i_o and_o every_o body_n else_o and_o shall_v we_o not_o yield_v submission_n quiet_o to_o a_o thing_n for_o which_o there_o may_v be_v so_o many_o reason_n and_o those_o not_o at_o all_o to_o our_o prejudice_n but_o to_o our_o profit_n let_v i_o say_v a_o few_o word_n concern_v the_o two_o last_o thing_n mention_v and_o show_v you_o that_o if_o our_o patience_n be_v exercise_v upon_o those_o account_n it_o will_v prove_v very_o beneficial_a to_o our_o soul_n i_o can_v say_v as_o some_o have_v do_v that_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o desire_v goodness_n for_o our_o own_o good_a but_o mere_o because_o it_o be_v please_v to_o god_n no_o this_o seem_v to_o i_o a_o very_a absurd_a doctrine_n and_o utter_o impossible_a that_o we_o shall_v separate_v these_o two_o piety_n and_o our_o own_o good_a we_o can_v so_o much_o as_o desire_v to_o be_v good_a but_o we_o shall_v feel_v a_o satisfaction_n in_o it_o for_o the_o very_a name_n of_o good_a carry_v a_o respect_n in_o it_o to_o something_o in_o we_o to_o which_o it_o be_v agreeable_a and_o convenient_a we_o do_v not_o mean_v when_o we_o bid_v you_o love_n god_n for_o himself_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o therein_o love_v yourself_o and_o seek_v your_o own_o contentment_n for_o you_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v please_v in_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o virtue_n but_o this_o i_o may_v affirm_v with_o safety_n that_o there_o may_v be_v sometime_o too_o much_o of_o self-love_n in_o our_o vehement_a desire_n after_o the_o extraordinary_a pleasure_n and_o joy_n of_o piety_n and_o that_o if_o we_o can_v be_v content_a after_o we_o use_v due_a diligence_n with_o our_o dryness_n and_o barrenness_n of_o spirit_n with_o our_o dulness_n and_o want_n of_o vigour_n nay_o with_o our_o frailty_n and_o fault_n too_o mere_o out_o of_o submission_n to_o god_n and_o because_o he_o think_v not_o fit_a to_o give_v we_o the_o pleasure_n of_o be_v whole_o without_o they_o it_o will_v be_v high_o acceptable_a to_o he_o and_o no_o less_o advantageous_a to_o we_o if_o in_o all_o thing_n i_o mean_v we_o can_v rest_v satisfy_v that_o god_n will_n be_v do_v though_o we_o be_v deny_v if_o we_o can_v forbear_v to_o prosecute_v our_o own_o will_n even_o in_o those_o matter_n and_o desire_v he_o to_o give_v we_o as_o much_o life_n and_o spirit_n and_o cheerfulness_n and_o joy_n as_o he_o please_v we_o shall_v be_v so_o far_o from_o offend_v he_o that_o he_o will_v take_v it_o for_o a_o very_a grateful_a piece_n of_o service_n to_o he_o this_o be_v not_o to_o teach_v any_o remissness_n in_o your_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n but_o it_o suppose_v you_o do_v your_o best_a and_o only_o advise_v you_o that_o if_o notwithstanding_o you_o can_v be_v as_o you_o will_v you_o do_v not_o let_v your_o spirit_n fall_v into_o any_o impatience_n or_o fretfulness_n for_o this_o be_v to_o prefer_v god_n pleasure_n above_o your_o own_o it_o be_v a_o subjection_n of_o your_o will_n to_o he_o in_o those_o point_n wherein_o you_o be_v most_o desirous_a to_o have_v it_o gratify_v it_o be_v a_o unusual_a instance_n of_o resignation_n to_o he_o which_o declare_v there_o be_v nothing_o so_o dear_a to_o you_o but_o you_o be_v willing_a to_o quit_v it_o so_o you_o may_v but_o do_v well_o and_o be_v accept_v with_o he_o and_o here_o remember_v these_o two_o thing_n first_o that_o our_o solid_a comfort_n do_v not_o depend_v upon_o do_v have_v of_o our_o strength_n and_o ability_n to_o be_v please_v in_o our_o success_n be_v not_o so_o please_v to_o god_n as_o to_o be_v patient_a in_o our_o contest_v nay_o to_o rejoice_v and_o triumph_v in_o our_o victory_n be_v nothing_o so_o good_a as_o to_o be_v constant_a and_o resolve_v notwithstanding_o that_o we_o be_v a_o little_a overcome_v in_o those_o spiritual_a consolation_n which_o we_o thirst_v after_o we_o do_v not_o always_o receive_v so_o much_o profit_n as_o we_o do_v pleasure_n but_o in_o the_o want_n of_o they_o if_o our_o will_n be_v thereby_o more_o perfect_o potter_n furnace_n how_o thick_a and_o black_a it_o be_v as_o if_o it_o will_v make_v a_o picture_n of_o hell_n itself_o who_o will_v think_v that_o the_o vessel_n of_o clay_n which_o be_v bake_v there_o will_v not_o be_v burn_v to_o ash_n by_o the_o fury_n of_o the_o fire_n or_o that_o at_o lest_o they_o will_v come_v out_o as_o black_a as_o soot_n by_o the_o foulness_n of_o the_o smoke_n and_o yet_o when_o the_o fire_n be_v put_v out_o and_o the_o vessel_n unfurnace_v you_o see_v there_o be_v no_o such_o thing_n but_o that_o which_o be_v soft_a and_o yield_a be_v become_v hard_a and_o strong_a and_o its_o complexion_n likewise_o be_v so_o much_o mend_v that_o a_o prince_n need_v not_o disdain_v the_o use_n of_o some_o of_o these_o cup_n just_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o a_o distress_a loss_n but_o after_o a_o while_n when_o the_o work_n of_o god_n be_v do_v and_o the_o vapour_n be_v vanish_v and_o disappear_v it_o find_v itself_o to_o be_v grow_v much_o in_o firmness_n purity_n and_o splendour_n and_o that_o it_o be_v make_v a_o vessel_n of_o honour_n fit_a for_o the_o master_n use_n there_o be_v no_o loss_n of_o any_o thing_n but_o of_o its_o self-will_n nothing_o be_v consume_v but_o its_o softness_n and_o delicacy_n which_o make_v it_o loath_a to_o be_v touch_v the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o many_o little_a passion_n and_o disorderly_a desire_n to_o which_o our_o frail_a nature_n be_v subject_a if_o we_o can_v free_v ourselves_o from_o one_o inordinate_a passion_n which_o be_v a_o too_o vehement_a desire_n to_o be_v quite_o rid_v of_o they_o it_o may_v bring_v we_o little_a less_o peace_n than_o if_o we_o be_v and_o our_o profit_v will_v no_o less_o appear_v in_o continue_v still_o to_o do_v our_o duty_n of_o which_o we_o complain_v that_o they_o be_v so_o great_a a_o hindrance_n however_o there_o be_v no_o reason_n for_o such_o conclusion_n as_o those_o which_o good_a mind_n have_v be_v apt_a to_o make_v in_o a_o gloomy_a day_n that_o if_o god_n love_v they_o he_o will_v not_o treat_v they_o after_o that_o manner_n there_o be_v rather_o great_a reason_n consider_v what_o have_v be_v say_v to_o be_v not_o only_o patient_a but_o thankful_a to_o he_o in_o such_o a_o condition_n for_o it_o be_v not_o inconsistent_a with_o his_o care_n and_o infinite_a kindness_n to_o let_v we_o be_v obnoxious_a to_o those_o change_n and_o those_o weakness_n too_o which_o i_o have_v mention_v but_o you_o see_v plain_o it_o must_v be_v so_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v best_o to_o be_v well_o please_v with_o these_o method_n of_o our_o heavenly_a father_n at_o least_o content_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o and_o let_v i_o add_v this_o for_o a_o conclusion_n of_o this_o discourse_n that_o god_n may_v suffer_v some_o person_n to_o
