this_o shall_v be_v go_v and_o this_o kind_n of_o body_n and_o soul_n shall_v be_v alter_v and_o change_v to_o the_o image_n of_o the_o bless_v second_o adam_n we_o shall_v put_v off_o our_o of_o jesus_n christ_n this_o shall_v follow_v to_o any_o one_o that_o understand_v it_o that_o therefore_o we_o shall_v study_v and_o learn_v to_o conform_v ourselves_o in_o our_o heart_n and_o life_n lie_v and_o whereon_o it_o be_v build_v not_o upon_o any_o thing_n in_o we_o or_o do_v by_o we_o but_o only_o upon_o the_o death_n and_o resurrection_n of_o jesus_n christ_n second_o hence_o all_o that_o be_v saint_n all_o that_o believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n shall_v labour_v to_o see_v the_o glorious_a condition_n they_o be_v in_o by_o christ_n three_o we_o shall_v learn_v be_v justify_v law_n and_o they_o that_o will_v fulfil_v the_o law_n with_o their_o own_o righteousness_n they_o do_v the_o law_n wrong_n they_o that_o do_v most_o here_o and_o they_o that_o suffer_v most_o in_o hell_n they_o can_v never_o satisfy_v the_o law_n but_o a_o christian_n have_v satisfy_v the_o law_n because_o he_o have_v give_v it_o a_o perfect_a righteousness_n now_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v owe_v ten_o thousand_o pound_n and_o he_o have_v but_o fifty_o shilling_n a_o year_n come_v in_o and_o it_o may_v be_v one_o year_n he_o pay_v ten_o shilling_n another_o year_n he_o pay_v a_o noble_a and_o the_o pure_a spirituality_n and_o go_v to_o christ_n jesus_n and_o he_o have_v satisfy_v all_o so_o much_o brief_o for_o the_o second_o lesson_n now_o i_o shall_v enter_v a_o little_a upon_o the_o father_n and_o of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n therefore_o we_o may_v conclude_v thence_o that_o we_o may_v baptize_v those_o that_o be_v disciple_n but_o from_o that_o place_n to_o gather_v this_o doctrine_n that_o they_o and_o they_o only_o be_v to_o be_v baptize_v can_v be_v right_o but_o here_o i_o say_v it_o be_v they_o and_o they_o only_o why_o so_o because_o we_o see_v of_o it_o in_o this_o city_n yet_o if_o that_o prayer_n and_o repeat_v and_o read_v and_o hear_v or_o preach_v or_o whatsoever_o it_o be_v if_o it_o flow_v from_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n as_o a_o natural_a man_n know_v natural_a thing_n so_o one_o saint_n know_v another_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n know_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n it_o be_v true_a we_o all_o of_o we_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o flesh_n and_o there_o be_v somewhat_o of_o good_a old_a adam_n as_o well_o as_o of_o corrupt_a adam_n but_o sure_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o conceive_v he_o to_o be_v a_o saint_n let_v he_o be_v never_o so_o glorious_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n and_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n if_o there_o be_v not_o somewhat_o of_o christ_n in_o he_o you_o may_v see_v a_o poor_a despicable_a creature_n and_o see_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o christ_n in_o he_o and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n you_o may_v see_v great_a professor_n that_o be_v ringleader_n of_o other_o and_o yet_o there_o be_v not_o one_o jot_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o but_o all_o be_v old_a adam_n screw_v up_o in_o his_o brave_a part_n and_o all_o be_v but_o flesh_n a_o little_a more_o refine_v and_o he_o that_o be_v flesh_n and_o all_o that_o be_v flesh_n can_v inherit_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n look_v to_o yourselves_o serious_o especial_o you_o that_o be_v most_o eminent_a that_o think_v best_o of_o the_o old_a or_o of_o the_o new_a adam_n and_o not_o according_a to_o such_o a_o proportion_n of_o strictness_n in_o their_o life_n for_o the_o pharisee_n go_v beyond_o many_o weak_a professor_n be_v for_o he_o these_o kind_n of_o communion_n will_v prove_v nothing_o but_o faction_n in_o the_o end_n but_o the_o true_a communion_n be_v when_o saint_n together_o keep_v fellowship_n church-fellowship_n or_o other_o upon_o spiritual_a ground_n that_o be_v when_o christ_n in_o his_o soul_n and_o christ_n in_o my_o close_a together_o this_o be_v the_o main_a ground_n that_o make_v communion_n and_o fellowship_n whatsoever_o come_v in_o beside_o that_o be_v additional_a but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o communion_n of_o people_n without_o this_o i_o say_v it_o will_v prove_v but_o faction_n but_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n i_o shall_v show_v now_o what_o course_n we_o shall_v take_v to_o bring_v ourselves_o to_o spiritual_a walk_n and_o second_o what_o they_o shall_v dozen_o or_o twenty_o man_n tug_v and_o strive_v to_o get_v it_o off_o and_o yet_o it_o stick_v and_o another_o man_n that_o be_v in_o a_o boat_n upon_o the_o water_n and_o needs_o only_o to_o hoist_v sail_n and_o sit_v down_o and_o it_o be_v go_v he_o go_v with_o wind_n and_o tide_n so_o a_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o grace_n he_o can_v go_v as_o a_o child_n and_o speak_v love_a and_o plain_a word_n to_o his_o father_n and_o get_v power_n over_o his_o sin_n that_o all_o the_o howl_n and_o roar_v and_o cry_v of_o another_o a_o whole_a year_n together_o can_v do_v it_o be_v so_o and_o all_o you_o that_o know_v what_o grace_n be_v know_v it_o that_o be_v one_o thing_n therefore_o consider_v this_o if_o thou_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n thou_o be_v dead_a to_o sin_n for_o thyself_o but_o to_o do_v for_o god_n but_o now_o and_o then_o and_o it_o may_v be_v after_o many_o persuasion_n thou_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o do_v something_o for_o god_n and_o for_o the_o people_n of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o thou_o to_o look_v to_o thy_o self_n and_o to_o thy_o own_o honour_n and_o thy_o own_o place_n and_o preferment_n etc._n etc._n the_o lord_n help_v thou_o to_o look_v to_o this_o sermon_n viii_o rom._n 8._o 5._o for_o they_o that_o be_v after_o the_o flesh_n do_v mind_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o they_o that_o be_v after_o the_o spirit_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n i_o have_v speak_v of_o these_o word_n in_o general_n and_o â—ow_o i_o will_v according_a to_o the_o strength_n that_o god_n shall_v give_v i_o speak_v of_o they_o a_o little_a in_o particular_a that_o see_v those_o that_o enjoy_v this_o great_a privilege_n to_o have_v the_o law_n fulfil_v in_o they_o be_v those_o that_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n that_o we_o may_v find_v whether_o we_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n or_o after_o the_o spirit_n i_o will_v urge_v it_o a_o little_a further_o and_o that_o according_a to_o the_o apostle_n method_n he_o pitch_v upon_o the_o mind_n and_o the_o mind_n not_o simple_o consider_v but_o as_o it_o be_v act_v and_o set_v forth_o the_o mind_n in_o mind_v therefore_o as_o he_o take_v the_o chief_a faculty_n to_o judge_v the_o rest_n by_o so_o i_o will_v take_v the_o chief_a act_n in_o that_o faculty_n that_o so_o you_o may_v judge_v of_o the_o rest_n by_o that_o one_o and_o so_o keep_v to_o the_o apostle_n method_n now_o the_o chief_a act_n of_o the_o mind_n doubtless_o be_v the_o reason_a part_n of_o the_o mind_n there_o be_v many_o act_n in_o the_o mind_n as_o it_o understand_v it_o think_v it_o imagine_v but_o especial_o the_o reason_a part_n it_o belong_v to_o the_o mind_n to_o reason_n concern_v thing_n and_o reason_n be_v the_o chief_a part_n and_o be_v call_v and_o account_v by_o scholar_n the_o chief_a part_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o they_o say_v that_o man_n be_v a_o reasonable_a creature_n now_o i_o say_v if_o we_o will_v find_v ouâ—_n by_o the_o scripture_n what_o we_o be_v whether_o we_o be_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n or_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n for_o there_o be_v the_o hinge_n of_o it_o we_o must_v examine_v it_o by_o the_o mind_n and_o not_o by_o the_o mind_n simple_o as_o it_o be_v a_o faculty_n but_o the_o mind_n act_v and_o exercise_v and_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o exercise_n let_v we_o take_v the_o reason_a part_n of_o it_o that_o be_v the_o best_a part_n for_o of_o all_o the_o act_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o reason_n be_v the_o strong_a and_o that_o that_o most_o immediate_o flow_v from_o the_o understanding_n therefore_o if_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v carnal_a the_o whole_a soul_n be_v so_o and_o if_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o be_v spiritual_a the_o whole_a soul_n be_v spiritual_a that_o be_v one_o thing_n that_o do_v move_v i_o to_o pitch_v upon_o that_o it_o be_v the_o chief_a beside_o i_o find_v that_o the_o apostle_n in_o 1_o cor._n 5._o 16._o he_o distinguish_v those_o that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n from_o those_o that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n by_o the_o reason_a part_n for_o say_v he_o henceforth_o know_v we_o no_o man_n after_o the_o flesh_n yea_o though_o we_o have_v know_v christ_n after_o the_o flesh_n yet_o now_o henceforth_o know_v we_o he_o no_o more_o we_o do_v not_o say_v he_o henceforth_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n and_o we_o know_v it_o by_o our_o knowledge_n we_o do_v know_v thing_n not_o according_a to_o the_o flesh_n but_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n if_o christ_n himself_o be_v here_o we_o will_v not_o look_v upon_o he_o with_o a_o fleshly_a eye_n what_o this_o knowledge_n be_v you_o may_v see_v in_o the_o verse_n before_o for_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n constrain_v we_o because_o we_o thus_o judge_v we_o thus_o reason_n that_o if_o one_o die_v for_o all_o then_o be_v all_o dead_a and_o that_o he_o die_v for_o all_o that_o they_o which_o live_v shall_v not_o henceforth_o live_v unto_o themselves_o but_o unto_o he_o which_o die_v for_o they_o and_z rise_v again_z we_o know_v say_v he_o that_o we_o be_v spiritual_a and_o not_o fleshly_a by_o our_o judge_n of_o thing_n by_o our_o reason_n of_o thing_n for_o thus_o we_o judge_v or_o thus_o we_o reason_n that_o if_o one_o die_v for_o all_o that_o be_v do_v die_v for_o all_o then_o sure_o we_o all_o be_v dead_a and_o we_o reason_n further_o that_o if_o one_o man_n do_v die_v for_o we_o and_o we_o be_v suffer_v to_o live_v we_o shall_v employ_v our_o life_n not_o for_o ourselves_o but_o for_o he_o that_o die_v for_o we_o this_o kind_n of_o reason_v we_o have_v that_o walk_n after_o the_o spirit_n and_o not_o after_o the_o flesh_n therefore_o i_o will_v pitch_v upon_o that_o and_o the_o rather_o because_o the_o lord_n have_v be_v please_v for_o end_n best_o know_v to_o he_o to_o keep_v that_o in_o my_o mind_n and_o to_o six_o it_o so_o on_o my_o thought_n that_o i_o can_v not_o pass_v it_o by_o and_o i_o usual_o judge_v in_o such_o case_n that_o god_n do_v often_o do_v it_o for_o your_o sake_n and_o therefore_o according_a to_o this_o method_n we_o shall_v observe_v this_o doctrine_n or_o this_o lesson_n doct_n that_o those_o that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n or_o that_o walk_n according_a to_o the_o flesh_n be_v sway_v and_o guide_v by_o fleshly_a reason_n and_o those_o that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n be_v sway_v and_o rule_v by_o spiritual_a reason_n true_a gospel_n believer_n be_v rule_v and_o sway_v with_o spiritual_a reason_n and_o all_o carnal_a fleshly_a man_n be_v rule_v by_o carnal_a fleshly_a reason_n for_o such_o as_o the_o mind_n be_v so_o be_v the_o whole_a man_n and_o if_o your_o reason_n be_v right_o than_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o all_o the_o act_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v right_a for_o that_o be_v the_o chief_a you_o may_v judge_v of_o all_o the_o act_n of_o your_o mind_n by_o your_o reason_n and_o therefore_o we_o cull_v out_o that_o for_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o rest_n i_o say_v carnal_a man_n be_v sway_v
judge_v of_o his_o principle_n as_o you_o see_v he_o that_o have_v a_o dark_a lantern_n he_o can_v see_v every_o body_n as_o he_o go_v but_o no_o body_n see_v he_o and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o natural_a man_n do_v so_o little_a good_a in_o their_o place_n because_o they_o can_v discern_v other_o man_n we_o have_v see_v brave_a man_n employ_v about_o action_n and_o design_n but_o they_o can_v judge_v spiritual_o and_o therefore_o they_o do_v not_o prosper_v why_o because_o some_o flatterer_n come_v and_o cheat_v they_o they_o want_v their_o dark_a lantern_n a_o godly_a man_n be_v able_a to_o see_v through_o a_o natural_a man_n and_o to_o see_v his_o principle_n and_o end_n and_o as_o a_o wise_a man_n will_v fetch_v it_o out_o he_o can_v judge_v of_o thing_n natural_o and_o corrupt_o because_o he_o have_v be_v so_o himself_o and_o he_o know_v how_o to_o judge_v spiritual_o which_o the_o other_o can_v do_v that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o a_o godly_a man_n in_o a_o committee_n or_o a_o few_o in_o the_o army_n or_o parliament_n they_o can_v tell_v how_o far_o their_o principle_n will_v carry_v they_o towards_o god_n or_o any_o good_a work_n therefore_o i_o will_v to_o god_n this_o poor_a kingdom_n will_v be_v wise_a at_o last_o that_o if_o there_o be_v any_o business_n that_o require_v wisdom_n either_o in_o parliament_n or_o army_n or_o committee_n or_o city_n that_o they_o will_v put_v in_o godly_a man_n they_o have_v their_o dark_a lantern_n they_o can_v see_v through_o thing_n and_o will_v not_o be_v take_v with_o chaff_n as_o other_o may_v you_o see_v how_o god_n have_v prosper_v and_o bless_v they_o and_o how_o they_o have_v continue_v constant_a therefore_o i_o say_v henceforth_o let_v we_o not_o in_o any_o place_n or_o business_n look_v so_o much_o to_o our_o kindred_n or_o neighbour_n or_o carnal_a relation_n but_o that_o god_n will_v teach_v we_o to_o choose_v godly_a man_n in_o all_o place_n they_o be_v the_o only_a wise_a man_n sort_n of_o act_n or_o reason_v corrupt_a reason_v natural_a spiritual_n i_o premise_v three_o thing_n before_o i_o can_v come_v to_o prove_v the_o doctrine_n the_o first_o be_v this_o that_o there_o be_v excellent_a reason_n in_o all_o godliness_n there_o be_v reason_n and_o the_o best_a reason_n as_o i_o show_v you_o at_o large_a and_o make_v two_o or_o three_o use_v of_o it_o now_o to_o go_v forward_o a_o little_a the_o second_o thing_n brief_o that_o i_o must_v premise_v before_o i_o prove_v this_o lesson_n it_o be_v this_o the_o reason_v of_o the_o soul_n be_v the_o high_a and_o excellent_a act_n of_o the_o mind_n as_o the_o mind_n or_o understanding_n be_v the_o high_a faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n so_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v the_o most_o excellent_a and_o most_o immediate_a act_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o mind_n be_v christ_n or_o the_o devil_n chief_a throne_n if_o christ_n be_v in_o the_o soul_n he_o keep_v his_o palace_n in_o the_o mind_n if_o the_o devil_n be_v in_o the_o soul_n he_o keep_v his_o garrison_n in_o the_o mind_n so_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v the_o chief_a strength_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o immediate_a flow_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o whole_a act_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v like_o the_o new_a river_n it_o come_v to_o london_n and_o then_o you_o have_v conduit_n to_o receive_v it_o and_o those_o send_v it_o to_o wooden_a pipe_n and_o those_o send_v it_o to_o leaden_a pipe_n and_o so_o to_o your_o kitchen_n and_o cellar_n so_o the_o soul_n the_o mind_n be_v as_o the_o new_a river_n the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v the_o conduit_n that_o receive_v it_o first_o from_o the_o reason_n it_o come_v to_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n and_o then_o it_o go_v out_o into_o the_o action_n so_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v the_o first_o and_o chief_a and_o supreme_a part_n of_o all_o the_o action_n thereof_o therefore_o if_o the_o mind_n be_v naught_o the_o whole_a soul_n be_v naught_o if_o the_o reason_n be_v naught_o the_o whole_a soul_n and_o life_n be_v naught_o also_o but_o because_o i_o will_v pass_v from_o that_o the_o use_n of_o it_o in_o a_o word_n be_v this_o that_o hence_o we_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o wise_a man_n the_o most_o rational_a man_n be_v usual_o the_o worst_a man_n because_o they_o have_v more_o strength_n of_o reason_n then_o other_o man_n the_o reason_n be_v corrupt_a and_o naught_o the_o strong_a that_o reason_n be_v the_o worse_a the_o man_n be_v therefore_o if_o i_o have_v a_o child_n or_o a_o friend_n that_o be_v a_o wicked_a man_n if_o he_o be_v not_o make_v a_o good_a man_n i_o wish_v he_o may_v never_o be_v very_o rational_a or_o reasonable_a because_o the_o strong_a his_o reason_n be_v be_v corrupt_a the_o more_o ill_o he_o be_v in_o his_o will_n and_o affection_n when_o man_n be_v mad_a with_o reason_n many_o of_o the_o vulgar_a be_v mad_a without_o reason_n they_o will_v hate_v a_o thing_n upon_o hear-say_n o_o such_o a_o one_o be_v a_o independent_a and_o this_o and_o that_o but_o when_o man_n be_v mad_a with_o reason_n when_o they_o have_v wicked_a reason_n they_o be_v mad_a to_o purpose_n they_o be_v mad_a with_o a_o vengeance_n as_o we_o say_v and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o choose_v many_o wise_a nor_o many_o noble_a but_o simple_a people_n and_o simple_a thing_n god_n do_v not_o ordinary_o do_v it_o as_o now_o in_o the_o army_n fight_v abroad_o usual_o they_o do_v not_o take_v great_a strong_a garrison_n but_o little_a petty_a one_o be_v take_v to_o and_o again_o daily_o so_o not_o many_o wise_a man_n be_v call_v god_n take_v some_o strong_a garrison_n for_o it_o be_v a_o strong_a garrison_n of_o the_o devil_n when_o a_o great_a learned_a man_n be_v without_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o be_v like_o portsmouth_n etc._n etc._n fortify_v strong_o god_n may_v take_v away_o the_o weapon_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o the_o principal_a ordnance_n he_o have_v be_v carnal_a reason_v but_o god_n do_v it_o not_o ordinary_o it_o be_v a_o say_v of_o a_o godly_a man_n and_o a_o rational_a one_o too_o he_o shake_v his_o head_n
