his_o enemy_n and_o who_o may_v probable_o be_v wrought_v upon_o and_o who_o not_o but_o he_o say_v it_o be_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n that_o he_o exercise_v silence_n and_o patience_n but_o it_o be_v every_o to_o way_n the_o dishonour_n of_o god_n for_o if_o truth_n be_v in_o his_o tenant_n than_o he_o shameful_o desert_v it_o when_o he_o shall_v have_v commit_v himself_o to_o god_n in_o give_v a_o sign_n to_o they_o that_o they_o have_v evil_a thought_n of_o he_o while_o they_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o less_o than_o god_n or_o as_o below_o god_n for_o they_o may_v confute_v error_n that_o they_o think_v he_o take_v to_o himself_o that_o power_n which_o indeed_o he_o do_v not_o viz._n a_o absolute_a and_o independent_a power_n in_o remit_v sin_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v but_o a_o derive_v power_n which_o he_o have_v from_o another_o and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o his_o own_o which_o he_o exercise_v then_o in_o the_o work_n of_o this_o miracle_n that_o they_o may_v know_v that_o they_o err_v in_o their_o conception_n concern_v his_o manner_n of_o work_v he_o shall_v at_o this_o time_n especial_o rather_o than_o at_o another_o time_n by_o invocation_n upon_o his_o father_n have_v effect_v it_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o christ_n design_n be_v in_o work_v this_o miracle_n to_o teach_v they_o somewhat_o which_o they_o understand_v not_o and_o to_o rectify_v their_o apprehension_n concern_v himself_o as_o these_o word_n import_v that_o you_o may_v know_v that_o the_o son_n of_o man_n have_v power_n on_o earth_n to_o forgive_v sin_n i_o say_v unto_o thou_o who_o be_v sick_a etc._n etc._n arise_v and_o walk_v now_o what_o be_v it_o that_o he_o will_v teach_v they_o be_v this_o it_o that_o he_o do_v act_v dependent_o upon_o his_o father_n and_o have_v no_o such_o power_n of_o his_o own_o to_o forgive_v sin_n but_o derive_v it_o from_o his_o father_n if_o so_o be_v this_o the_o mean_n or_o the_o way_n to_o convince_v they_o of_o it_o his_o spirit_n or_o speak_v unto_o god_n his_o father_n to_o effect_v it_o in_o he_o or_o by_o he_o be_v it_o not_o rather_o the_o way_n to_o confirm_v they_o in_o their_o error_n if_o that_o be_v their_o error_n then_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n therefore_o it_o be_v manifest_a and_o clear_a that_o he_o will_v teach_v they_o some_o other_o thing_n wherein_o indeed_o they_o err_v and_o stand_v in_o need_n to_o be_v rectify_v they_o think_v he_o but_o a_o man_n and_o that_o he_o usurp_v that_o power_n which_o belong_v not_o unto_o he_o but_o be_v proper_a who_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n without_o measure_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o forementioned_a tenant_n of_o he_o be_v not_o a_o few_o his_o expression_n seem_v to_o i_o to_o carry_v such_o a_o sense_n 1._o that_o christ_n knowledge_n be_v so_o great_a that_o it_o be_v unmeasurable_a and_o consequent_o infinite_a and_o yet_o he_o himself_o but_o a_o creature_n and_o consequent_o finite_a which_o be_v a_o contradiction_n 2._o that_o this_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n come_v to_o be_v unmeasurable_a because_o the_o spirit_n be_v give_v to_o he_o without_o measure_n and_o yet_o the_o spirit_n himself_o be_v finite_a and_o consequent_o measurable_a according_a to_o he_o and_o if_o the_o spirit_n be_v infinite_a and_o his_o wisdom_n infinite_a as_o indeed_o he_o be_v though_o he_o deny_v it_o yet_o if_o christ_n be_v a_o mere_a creature_n and_o whole_o finite_a as_o he_o hold_v the_o maxim_n be_v infallible_a that_o quicquid_fw-la recipitur_fw-la recipitur_fw-la ad_fw-la the_o knowledge_n of_o he_o &_o c_o sol._n though_o i_o be_o not_o able_a to_o measure_v the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n who_o receive_v the_o spirit_n positive_o so_o as_o to_o declare_v exact_o what_o measure_n he_o receive_v and_o no_o more_o yet_o i_o be_o able_a to_o measure_v the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o have_v by_o the_o donation_n of_o the_o spirit_n negative_o i_o can_v say_v it_o be_v not_o unmeasurable_a it_o be_v not_o infinite_a but_o he_o bottom_n this_o interrogation_n upon_o a_o scripture_n viz._n john_n 3._o 34._o where_o he_o say_v that_o god_n give_v not_o his_o spirit_n by_o measure_n to_o he_o and_o he_o interpret_v it_o to_o be_v without_o measure_n and_o by_o consequence_n infinite_o but_o he_o be_v mistake_v for_o there_o be_v a_o comparison_n betwixt_o christ_n and_o john_n the_o baptist_n and_o other_o minister_n of_o the_o church_n for_o they_o receive_v the_o spirit_n and_o be_v limit_v and_o stint_v and_o receive_v not_o all_o that_o they_o be_v capable_a of_o and_o must_v have_v but_o the_o spirit_n be_v divide_v to_o they_o as_o it_o please_v god_n to_o one_o man_n be_v give_v wisdom_n and_o to_o a_o other_o knowledge_n etc._n etc._n 1_o cor._n 12._o 11._o and_o eph._n 4._o 7._o and_o rom._n 12._o 3._o but_o to_o christ_n be_v give_v the_o spirit_n not_o by_o measure_n that_o be_v not_o according_a to_o this_o measure_n for_o christ_n have_v all_o these_o and_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n in_o perfection_n and_o not_o imperfect_o as_o man_n here_o have_v and_o he_o have_v the_o whole_a as_o he_o be_v capable_a of_o as_o man_n but_o yet_o the_o whole_a be_v not_o infinite_a nor_o unmeasurable_a of_o which_o i_o have_v large_o before_o speak_v and_o therefore_o shall_v not_o enlarge_v here_o it_o may_v be_v further_o say_v by_o way_n of_o negation_n that_o all_o the_o knowledge_n that_o christ_n have_v receive_v as_o man_n by_o the_o donation_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v not_o enable_v he_o as_o a_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o spirit_n let_v none_o be_v carry_v out_o beyond_o what_o he_o have_v receive_v some_o have_v much_o more_o need_n to_o learn_v then_o to_o teach_v in_o a_o assembly_n and_o gift_a saint_n but_o the_o time_n be_v that_o prophesy_v in_o those_o that_o be_v many_o of_o they_o neither_o gift_v nor_o call_v undermine_v ministry_n and_o the_o people_n spirit_n be_v many_o of_o they_o inordinate_o carry_v rather_o after_o prophecy_n by_o the_o poor_a weak_a and_o raw_a person_n that_o will_v consume_v time_n that_o way_n then_o after_o the_o best_a gift_n that_o be_v ministerial_o exercise_v among_o they_o i_o be_o loath_a to_o say_v that_o such_o who_o be_v exercise_v and_o such_o who_o put_v they_o upon_o it_o and_o encourage_v they_o in_o it_o do_v seek_v be_v endure_v but_o such_o one_o in_o many_o place_n and_o to_o many_o person_n make_v themselves_o a_o prey_n and_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o there_o be_v a_o lust_a in_o person_n to_o partake_v of_o every_o man_n gift_n though_o he_o be_v a_o very_a stranger_n that_o be_v come_v among_o they_o under_o the_o profession_n of_o a_o saint_n who_o face_n they_o never_o see_v before_o and_o there_o must_v be_v some_o new_a notion_n present_v or_o there_o will_v be_v but_o slender_a acceptation_n express_v i_o desire_v to_o mourn_v for_o these_o thing_n of_o which_o there_o have_v be_v very_o sad_a experience_n in_o the_o part_n where_o i_o have_v live_v and_o the_o consequence_n have_v be_v dreadful_a and_o detrimental_a to_o faith_n and_o holiness_n i_o have_v clear_v myself_o from_o be_v any_o enemy_n to_o prophesy_v yet_o lest_o i_o shall_v be_v suspect_v i_o declare_v it_o again_o that_o i_o be_o not_o against_o it_o but_o i_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o ordinance_n of_o christ_n if_o it_o be_v right_o regulate_v and_o it_o be_v on_o foot_n in_o that_o fellowship_n of_o saint_n to_o which_o i_o stand_v relate_v those_o who_o we_o have_v find_v competent_o furnish_v with_o the_o spirit_n for_o such_o a_o undertake_n we_o have_v open_v the_o door_n to_o for_o a_o occasional_a exercise_v of_o their_o part_n and_o we_o have_v shut_v it_o against_o other_o who_o we_o have_v not_o conceive_v able_a but_o i_o look_v upon_o that_o promiscuous_a way_n licentious_a liberty_n of_o prophesy_v by_o any_o that_o will_v put_v themselves_o upon_o broach_v they_o to_o other_o 11._o many_o receive_v stranger_n in_o among_o they_o that_o have_v knowledge_n and_o plausible_a expression_n and_o seem_a sanctity_n without_o inquire_v after_o they_o they_o and_o they_o have_v be_v entertain_v by_o the_o people_n as_o singular_a revelation_n and_o rare_a discovery_n of_o the_o hide_a truth_n of_o god_n which_o god_n have_v make_v know_v to_o such_o who_o have_v have_v secret_a communion_n with_o he_o and_o so_o they_o have_v be_v infect_v and_o corrupt_v 13._o many_o be_v grow_v suspicious_a of_o all_o that_o they_o have_v believe_v and_o all_o danger_n and_o be_v subject_a to_o be_v carry_v away_o with_o every_o wind_n of_o doctrine_n for_o if_o any_o come_v to_o they_o in_o the_o habit_n of_o a_o saint_n pretend_v the_o study_n of_o divine_a mystery_n and_o
by_o his_o spirit_n i_o shall_v utter_o deny_v it_o as_o that_o which_o both_o want_v truth_n in_o it_o and_o be_v absurd_a as_o that_o which_o be_v neither_o consistent_a with_o scripture_n nor_o
