be_v reply_v it_o may_v to_o some_o be_v know_v through_o their_o effectual_a call_n the_o lord_n secret_o persuade_v they_o by_o the_o secret_a operation_n and_o influence_n of_o his_o spirit_n to_o apply_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n ontward_o hold_v forth_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v how_o shall_v they_o in_o what_o manner_n can_v they_o be_v assure_v of_o the_o efficacy_n of_o their_o call_n and_o that_o their_o belief_n of_o it_o be_v not_o a_o mere_a presumption_n and_o groundless_a imagination_n for_o this_o again_o must_v either_o be_v know_v by_o its_o have_v a_o objective_a evidence_n of_o its_o own_o or_o from_o the_o evidence_n of_o the_o scripture_n if_o the_o first_o that_o i_o affirm_v to_o be_v as_o it_o indeed_o be_v immediate_a revelation_n exparte_v object_n which_o thing_n these_o man_n utter_o deny_v in_o this_o age_n for_o that_o secret_a operation_n influence_n or_o impression_n of_o god_n spirit_n they_o will_v allow_v to_o be_v only_a subjective_n and_o not_o objective_n which_o therefore_o i_o may_v just_o call_v as_o they_o understand_v it_o a_o blind_a impulse_n or_o impression_n from_o whence_o consequent_o they_o can_v infer_v the_o certainty_n of_o the_o gospel_n belong_v to_o they_o if_o they_o say_v the_o evidence_n be_v from_o the_o scripture_n then_o certain_o it_o must_v be_v from_o the_o scripture_n hold_v forth_o the_o gospel_n universal_o to_o all_o as_o glad_a tiding_n and_o so_o by_o consequence_n to_o they_o because_o there_o be_v no_o scripture_n that_o hold_v any_o such_o thing_n forth_o particular_o as_o to_o they_o more_o than_o to_o other_o for_o as_o be_v already_o show_v that_o it_o be_v hold_v forth_o as_o glad_a tiding_n to_o some_o give_v no_o man_n firm_a ground_n to_o conclude_v it_o so_o to_o he_o as_o one_o of_o those_o some_o but_o wave_v now_o this_o principle_n of_o they_o that_o immediate_a revelation_n be_v cease_v through_o most_o true_a it_o be_v that_o there_o be_v at_o this_o day_n immediate_a revelation_n and_o that_o no_o man_n can_v true_o apply_v the_o gospel_n to_o himself_o but_o by_o immediate_a revelation_n yet_o this_o argument_n be_v of_o great_a weight_n and_o force_n as_o for_o example_n first_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v that_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o universal_a be_v know_v and_o believe_v be_v a_o great_a and_o comfortable_a confirmation_n to_o the_o strengthen_n of_o man_n faith_n in_o the_o particular_a application_n for_o if_o the_o gospel_n hold_v forth_o good_a will_n unto_o all_o then_o certain_o unto_o i_o so_o second_o as_o i_o can_v save_o believe_v the_o gospel_n no_o other_o way_n but_o as_o hold_v forth_o unto_o i_o by_o immediate_a revelation_n so_o by_o this_o immediate_a revelation_n it_o be_v not_o any_o singular_a or_o particular_a principle_n that_o be_v thus_o hold_v forth_o unto_o i_o but_o that_o which_o be_v the_o universal_a the_o common_a salvation_n viz_o the_o light_n the_o word_n the_o seed_n which_o i_o sin_v reveal_v and_o make_v manifest_a in_o i_o reprove_v sin_n in_o heart_n word_n and_o deed_n and_o secret_o draw_v i_o from_o it_o unto_o righteousness_n which_o principle_n be_v reveal_v in_o i_o to_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n not_o i_o say_v as_o any_o particular_a principle_n give_v unto_o i_o and_o not_o unto_o other_o but_z as_o that_o which_o be_v universal_o give_v and_o work_n so_o to_o speak_v universal_o answer_v every_o where_o to_o i_o in_o other_o and_o to_o other_o in_o i_o and_o so_o it_o be_v both_o outward_o preach_v and_o inward_o manifest_v to_o be_v that_o universal_a principle_n which_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n through_o close_v with_o which_o peace_n with_o the_o lord_n be_v obtain_v and_o because_o it_o be_v a_o universal_a principle_n and_o be_v so_o inward_o reveal_v therefore_o be_v my_o heart_n the_o more_o persuade_v to_o close_v with_o it_o especial_o at_o first_o or_o in_o my_o first_o entrance_n for_o come_v to_o hear_v that_o that_o which_o secret_o reprous_a for_o sin_n and_o appear_v against_o it_o in_o every_o conscience_n be_v the_o very_a grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o find_v the_o same_o thing_n reveal_v in_o my_o particular_a this_o be_v a_o occasion_n or_o ground_n for_o i_o to_o believe_v it_o whereas_o if_o the_o principle_n be_v not_o universal_a and_o that_o there_o be_v two_o principle_n reprove_v and_o convince_a of_o sin_n the_o one_o universal_n not_o save_v the_o other_o particular_a and_o save_a i_o may_v have_v much_o reason_n to_o question_n whether_o what_o i_o have_v be_v the_o save_n and_o special_a principle_n or_o no._n thus_o i_o say_v the_o principle_n be_v in_o the_o first_o place_n declare_v so_o to_o speak_v as_o a_o universal_a thing_n it_o be_v a_o great_a help_n unto_o the_o poor_a soul_n at_o its_o entrance_n to_o facilitate_v its_o belief_n of_o which_o thing_n i_o have_v have_v experience_n in_o my_o own_o particular_a who_o witness_v it_o reveal_v in_o i_o as_o universal_a and_o so_o close_v with_o it_o not_o that_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o there_o be_v any_o special_a principle_n reveal_v or_o give_v to_o i_o for_o such_o be_v the_o darkness_n confusion_n and_o inclearness_n that_o be_v over_o my_o mind_n that_o i_o can_v not_o have_v distinguish_v it_o but_o yet_o i_o manifest_o feel_v in_o my_o heart_n that_o which_o reprove_v all_o sin_n and_o weight_v i_o for_o it_o work_v as_o fire_n against_o it_o but_o this_o i_o know_v to_o be_v nothing_o but_o what_o be_v common_a to_o other_o for_o the_o same_o that_o make_v i_o know_v it_o in_o myself_o make_v i_o know_v and_o feel_v it_o in_o other_o and_o now_o this_o universal_a thing_n be_v by_o god_n faithful_a messenger_n preach_v unto_o i_o as_o the_o very_a grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o very_a save_a light_n of_o jesus_n christ._n o_o how_o glad_a tiding_n be_v it_o to_o my_o soul_n which_o close_v with_o the_o truth_n thereof_o by_o the_o secret_a operation_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n and_o true_o in_o that_o day_n i_o must_v needs_o say_v that_o the_o great_a most_o manifest_a and_o clear_a prop_n or_o ground_n of_o my_o faith_n that_o be_v visible_a unto_o my_o mind_n that_o i_o have_v in_o my_o heart_n what_o be_v save_v be_v even_o because_o i_o find_v in_o i_o that_o little_a universal_a common_a despise_a thing_n the_o least_o of_o all_o seed_n which_o be_v at_o this_o day_n more_o precious_a unto_o my_o soul_n and_o more_o excellent_a than_o all_o the_o mountain_n of_o prey_n see_v that_o be_v hold_v forth_o to_o be_v the_o save_a grace_n which_o be_v universal_a which_o i_o find_v in_o i_o answer_v to_o it_o in_o other_o yea_o when_o it_o be_v the_o least_o of_o all_o seed_n in_o i_o it_o do_v wonderful_o answer_v to_o its_o self_n in_o other_o in_o who_o it_o be_v grow_v up_o to_o be_v the_o great_a of_o all_o herb_n full_a of_o heavenly_a fruit_n and_o virtue_n and_o while_o it_o be_v yet_o burden_a and_o oppress_a and_o imprison_v in_o i_o it_o answer_v to_o the_o same_o the_o same_o i_o say_v for_o nature_n and_o kind_n in_o other_o where_o it_o be_v in_o dominion_n and_o perfect_a liberty_n over_o all_o that_o oppress_v it_o whereby_o i_o be_v exceed_o reach_v strengthen_v and_o confirm_v to_o believe_v that_o it_o be_v of_o a_o save_a nature_n conceive_v a_o bless_a hope_n that_o it_o will_v in_o due_a time_n be_v raise_v in_o i_o into_o the_o same_o dominion_n victory_n and_o liberty_n that_o i_o feel_v it_o to_o be_v in_o in_o they_o which_o now_o in_o a_o measure_n i_o do_v witness_n all_o glory_n and_o praise_n be_v unto_o the_o lord_n for_o ever_o so_o i_o say_v feel_v that_o universal_a principle_n in_o i_o and_o be_v persuade_v of_o the_o lord_n that_o it_o be_v universal_o save_v i_o be_v thereby_o help_v to_o believe_v that_o it_o be_v save_v in_o i_o and_o indeed_o that_o immediate_a revelation_n by_o which_o faith_n at_o first_o be_v usual_o or_o common_o wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o so_o much_o give_v in_o a_o distinct_a form_n of_o word_n particular_o say_v this_o or_o that_o thing_n to_o the_o soul_n as_o in_o a_o manifestation_n of_o the_o divine_a power_n and_o virtue_n of_o god_n spirit_n in_o that_o little_a seed_n which_o the_o heart_n be_v make_v to_o feel_v secret_o work_v in_o it_o as_o sire_n soap_n and_o water_n as_o a_o hammer_n and_o two_o edge_a sword_n as_o a_o magnet_n or_o load_v stone_n draw_v the_o heart_n to_o itself_o and_o thus_o be_v faith_n at_o first_o wrought_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n speak_v forth_o
so_o weak_a and_o small_a be_v only_o a_o very_a small_a remnant_n or_o relict_n of_o what_o man_n have_v before_o the_o fall_n to_o this_o i_o reply_v and_o say_v answ._n that_o this_o very_a answer_n then_o grant_v it_o to_o be_v still_o of_o a_o save_a nature_n in_o so_o much_o that_o if_o it_o save_v not_o this_o or_o that_o man_n in_o who_o it_o be_v it_o be_v not_o any_o defect_n in_o the_o nature_n but_o only_o in_o the_o degree_n or_o quantity_n of_o it_o but_o other_o that_o foresee_v the_o consequence_n of_o this_o concession_n will_v not_o allow_v it_o for_o if_o it_o be_v save_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o though_o it_o be_v the_o least_o of_o all_o seed_n yet_o it_o may_v save_v as_o christ_n compare_v the_o true_a seed_n of_o regeneration_n unto_o a_o very_o little_a thing_n even_o the_o least_o of_o all_o seed_n but_o that_o they_o say_v this_o universal_a pricciple_n be_v only_o some_o relict_n of_o that_o supernatural_a light_n which_o adam_n have_v before_o the_o fall_n and_o nothing_o de_fw-la novo_fw-la or_o of_o a_o new_a superad_v be_v not_o to_o be_v grant_v for_o if_o by_o supernatural_a light_n they_o understand_v the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o man_n that_o image_n do_v whole_o die_v &_o the_o light_n thereof_o become_v whole_o extinguish_v and_o so_o the_o image_n remain_v indeed_o in_o man_n but_o as_o a_o dead_a body_n without_o life_n or_o as_o a_o candle_n who_o light_n be_v blow_v out_o and_o extinguish_v for_o the_o lamb_n be_v slay_v from_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o world_n and_o by_o the_o fall_n christ_n come_v novo_fw-la to_o it_o that_o supernatural_a light_n then_o which_o be_v in_o all_o man_n since_o the_o fall_n be_v not_o any_o relict_n as_o aforesaid_a but_o some_o what_o give_v of_o a_o new_a to_o well_o weigh_v and_o consider_v and_o it_o will_v plain_o appear_v that_o the_o grace_n they_o declare_v of_o be_v true_o evangelicall_n be_v call_v the_o word_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o gospel_n rome_n 10_o 8._o v._n 16._o compare_v and_o colossian_n 1._o 23._o 27._o as_o also_o john_n 1._o 9_o 7._o etc._n etc._n where_o it_o be_v call_v the_o true_a light_n which_o light_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n that_o all_o through_o he_o may_v believe_v etc._n etc._n section_n iii_o the_o objection_n of_o any_o seem_a weight_n answer_v object_n 1._o natural_a and_o unconvert_v man_n be_v say_v ephes_n 5._o 8._o to_o be_v darkness_n how_o then_o can_v save_a light_n be_v in_o they_o answ._n it_o may_v be_v in_o they_o notwithstanding_o in_o a_o seed_n as_o well_o as_o darkness_n by_o your_o own_o principle_n be_v say_v to_o be_v in_o the_o saint_n so_o long_o as_o they_o be_v in_o this_o body_n who_o yet_o be_v in_o that_o place_n say_v to_o be_v light_n in_o the_o lord._n why_o may_v not_o then_o as_o well_o light_o be_v in_o they_o that_o be_v call_v darkness_n as_o darkness_n according_a to_o your_o principle_n be_v in_o they_o that_o be_v call_v light_n in_o the_o lord_n yea_o it_o must_v have_v be_v in_o they_o while_o darkness_n or_o they_o can_v never_o have_v be_v bring_v out_o of_o that_o state_n to_o be_v light_n in_o the_o lord_n for_o it_o be_v by_o the_o shine_a of_o the_o true_a light_n in_o such_o that_o those_o that_o resist_v not_o its_o operation_n come_v to_o be_v so_o change_v object_n 2._o all_o man_n have_v not_o faith_n therefore_o all_o man_n have_v not_o save_v light_n answ._n i_o deny_v the_o consequence_n for_o faith_n be_v the_o effect_n of_o this_o save_a light_n only_o in_o those_o that_o resist_v not_o its_o meek_a and_o gentle_a operation_n not_o in_o those_o that_o resist_v it_o for_o in_o they_o it_o produce_v not_o faith_n but_o condemnation_n so_o we_o grant_v all_o man_n have_v not_o faith_n hope_n as_o the_o day_n of_o their_o visitation_n remain_v object_n 4._o it_o be_v say_v the_o world_n can_v receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n because_o it_o see_v he_o not_o neither_o know_v he_o witness_v such_o a_o change_n but_o by_o receive_v the_o word_n and_o spirit_n of_o truth_n while_o natural_a and_o carnal_a as_o it_o be_v say_v as_o many_o as_o receive_v he_o to_o they_o he_o give_v power_n to_o become_v the_o son_n of_o god_n by_o which_o receive_v here_o be_v understand_v believe_v but_o there_o be_v a_o more_o general_a receive_n of_o the_o spirit_n by_o which_o unbeliever_n may_v come_v to_o believe_v
all_o to_o be_v save_v absolute_o but_o conditional_o ex_fw-la parte_fw-la objecti_fw-la upon_o their_o believe_a and_o whereas_o it_o be_v again_o by_o they_o object_v either_o god_n will_v they_o to_o find_v out_o wisdom_n but_o can_v not_o for_o since_o the_o fall_n the_o natural_a light_n or_o illumination_n of_o man_n be_v exceed_o corrupt_v and_o yet_o man_n have_v love_v it_o and_o set_v it_o up_o above_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o feed_v upon_o it_o as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v the_o tree_n of_o life_n and_o it_o have_v be_v permit_v to_o grow_v and_o become_v a_o very_a large_a growth_n of_o the_o natural_a illumination_n as_o it_o be_v corrupt_v for_o many_o man_n who_o be_v very_o unrighteous_a and_o wicked_a have_v much_o of_o it_o and_o many_o time_n more_o than_o the_o righteous_a so_o that_o christ_n say_v the_o child_n of_o this_o world_n be_v wise_a in_o their_o generation_n than_o the_o child_n of_o god_n now_o the_o natural_a illumination_n as_o it_o be_v pure_a before_o transgression_n so_o in_o they_o who_o come_v to_o be_v purify_v from_o transgression_n it_o do_v become_v pure_a for_o the_o truth_n purify_v it_o and_o it_o grow_v up_o under_o its_o shadow_n and_o be_v good_a unto_o man_n for_o divers_a use_n and_o so_o unrighteousness_n hinder_v its_o growth_n as_o its_o pure_a but_o not_o as_o it_o be_v impure_a and_o this_o have_v be_v the_o manifestation_n be_v not_o the_o natural_a illumination_n because_o through_o it_o god_n keep_v they_o as_o by_o a_o chain_n from_o do_v these_o abomination_n which_o afterward_o he_o give_v they_o up_o to_o commit_v there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o god_n dwell_v in_o their_o knowledge_n whereby_o they_o know_v he_o through_o what_o he_o have_v make_v manifest_a of_o his_o eternal_a power_n in_o imprint_v in_o the_o creature_n but_o second_o the_o word_n may_v be_v no_o less_o true_o yea_o more_fw-it proper_o and_o warrantable_o translate_v in_o the_o creature_n or_o thing_n make_v as_o thus_o the_o invisible_a thing_n of_o god_n be_v see_v clear_o in_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v make_v so_o that_o they_o who_o look_v upon_o the_o invisible_a thing_n of_o god_n with_o the_o light_n of_o divine_a illumination_n which_o proceed_v from_o he_o can_v and_o do_v see_v god_n and_o his_o invisible_a thing_n in_o all_o the_o creature_n or_o thing_n that_o be_v make_v so_o that_o the_o creature_n be_v not_o in_o themselves_o a_o veil_n to_o hinder_v the_o sight_n of_o god_n from_o any_o man_n if_o the_o veil_n of_o iniquity_n be_v but_o rend_v off_o from_o the_o eye_n of_o his_o they_o with_o his_o heavenly_a presence_n and_o may_v be_v see_v in_o they_o by_o man_n who_o behold_v he_o in_o the_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a light_n which_o proceed_v from_o he_o but_o they_o universal_a to_o the_o particular_a or_o particular_n be_v a_o most_o certain_a and_o infallible_a consequence_n as_o for_o example_n i_o or_o any_o man_n may_v conclude_v our_o selus_fw-la as_o the_o gospel_n it_o must_v be_v hold_v forth_o as_o a_o thing_n certain_a and_o as_o such_o must_v be_v make_v know_v unto_o he_o for_o what_o be_v a_o man_n faith_n but_o the_o particular_a application_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o thing_n therein_o hold_v forth_o unto_o a_o man_n self_n or_o man_n lay_v hold_n on_o the_o grace_n offer_v and_o believe_v that_o it_o belong_v to_o he_o which_o he_o can_v never_o do_v until_o it_o be_v so_o make_v know_v to_o he_o and_o that_o certain_o not_o by_o faint_a or_o rash_a conjecture_n for_o true_a divine_a faith_n rely_v not_o can_v lean_v upon_o mere_a conjecture_n but_o only_o upon_o certainty_n and_o herein_o faith_n differ_v from_o opinion_n which_o always_o rely_v upon_o conjecture_n and_o therefore_o be_v but_o faint_a and_o fluctuate_a weak_a and_o feeble_a as_o be_v the_o foundation_n upon_o which_o it_o rely_v whereas_o that_o certainty_n which_o be_v the_o right_a basis_n and_o foundation_n of_o true_a faith_n be_v strong_a and_o can_v never_o fail_v again_o the_o gospel_n can_v not_o be_v glad_a tiding_n to_o any_o further_o than_o it_o be_v certain_o know_v to_o belong_v to_o they_o because_o uncertain_a tiding_n can_v never_o be_v glad_a tiding_n the_o uncertainty_n thereof_o so_o hinder_v the_o heart_n in_o close_v there_o with_o that_o it_o can_v come_v to_o have_v joy_n therein_o but_o be_v rather_o keep_v in_o a_o anxious_a sadness_n till_o it_o know_v the_o certainty_n of_o
