be_v in_o special_a manner_n teach_v and_o insist_v upon_o by_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o his_o preach_a chief_o urge_v these_o as_o we_o see_v here_o so_o do_v john_n baptist_n as_o appear_v math._n 3._o 2._o compare_v with_o act._n 19_o 4._o so_o also_o do_v the_o apostle_n as_o paul_n act._n 20._o 21._o he_o witness_v to_o jew_n and_o grecian_n the_o repentance_n towards_o god_n and_o faith_n towards_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n reas_n reas_n these_o be_v main_a and_o principal_a doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n therefore_o reckon_v among_o the_o fundamental_a point_n of_o christian_a religion_n teach_v in_o the_o primitive_a church_n hebr._n 6._o 1._o the_o foundation_n of_o repentance_n from_o dead_a work_n and_o of_o faith_n towards_o god_n remedy_n now_o repentance_n be_v a_o remedy_n etc._n etc._n this_o be_v true_a of_o repentance_n luke_n 24._o 47._o that_o repentance_n shall_v be_v preach_v in_o his_o name_n that_o be_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n as_o a_o part_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v also_o true_a of_o faith_n i_o mean_v of_o justify_v faith_n whereby_o we_o believe_v in_o christ_n that_o it_o be_v teach_v only_o in_o the_o gospel_n as_o a_o part_n of_o it_o and_o not_o in_o the_o law_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o moral_a law_n neither_o reveâ—leth_v nor_o teach_v christ_n the_o mediator_n therefore_o those_o word_n which_o he_o speak_v to_o our_o saviour_n ver._n 24._o touch_v the_o first_o he_o cry_v out_o viz._n the_o devil_n in_o the_o man_n possess_v as_o gen._n 3._o 1._o the_o serpent_n be_v say_v to_o speak_v to_o eve_n when_o it_o be_v the_o devil_n in_o the_o serpent_n quest_n quest_n what_o move_v the_o devil_n now_o to_o cry_v out_o answ_n answ_n the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o divine_a power_n of_o christ_n who_o be_v now_o about_o to_o dispossess_v and_o cast_v he_o out_o of_o his_o hold._n this_o no_o doubt_n do_v strike_v terror_n into_o this_o wicked_a spirit_n and_o so_o much_o the_o word_n follow_v do_v show_v observe_v observe_v this_o greatness_n of_o the_o power_n of_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v terrible_a to_o the_o devil_n themselves_o whensoever_o christ_n do_v put_v forth_o his_o power_n against_o they_o and_o make_v they_o feel_v it_o it_o be_v terrible_a to_o they_o even_o while_o our_o saviour_n live_v on_o earth_n in_o the_o state_n of_o humiliation_n as_o here_o we_o see_v and_o in_o many_o other_o place_n of_o the_o evangelist_n how_o the_o wicked_a spirit_n in_o such_o as_o be_v possess_v do_v tremble_v at_o the_o power_n of_o christ_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o do_v but_o begin_v to_o feel_v it_o when_o he_o be_v about_o to_o cast_v they_o out_o this_o make_v they_o to_o entreat_v so_o much_o that_o he_o will_v not_o torment_v they_o as_o mark_v 5._o 7._o and_o luke_n 8._o 28._o much_o more_o be_v the_o power_n of_o christ_n now_o terrible_a to_o the_o devil_n when_o he_o be_v exalt_v to_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n in_o heaven_n jam._n 2._o 19_o as_o they_o do_v believe_v the_o divine_a power_n of_o christ_n so_o they_o tremble_v at_o it_o but_o most_o terrible_a of_o all_o shall_v his_o no_o such_o matter_n but_o the_o contrary_n so_o also_o wicked_a man_n and_o gross_a hypocrite_n yea_o reprobate_n may_v make_v outward_a profession_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o his_o doctrine_n as_o we_o may_v see_v matth._n 7._o 22._o many_o shall_v say_v to_o christ_n at_o the_o last_o day_n lord_n lord_n have_v we_o not_o by_o thy_o name_n prophesy_v and_o by_o thy_o name_n cast_v out_o see_v then_o that_o we_o must_v not_o rest_v in_o a_o bare_a outward_a profession_n of_o christ_n name_n and_o gospel_n as_o if_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o prove_v we_o good_a christian_n such_o as_o think_v so_o do_v miserable_o delude_v themselves_o if_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o speak_v well_o of_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o gospel_n and_o to_o profess_v love_n to_o they_o in_o word_n it_o be_v a_o easy_a thing_n to_o be_v a_o christian_a and_o the_o devil_n himself_o shall_v then_o be_v a_o christian_n but_o there_o be_v much_o more_o require_v of_o christian_n know_v therefore_o that_o our_o outward_a profession_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v nothing_o worth_a nor_o shall_v ever_o do_v we_o good_a unless_o it_o be_v make_v in_o sincerity_n and_o truth_n of_o heart_n proceed_v from_o a_o true_a love_n to_o christ_n and_o his_o gospel_n and_o unless_o also_o it_o be_v join_v with_o a_o holy_a practice_n and_o conscionable_a obedience_n to_o the_o word_n of_o enough_o bear_v with_o sin_n in_o other_o and_o wink_v at_o it_o show_v no_o hatred_n or_o dislike_n of_o it_o by_o word_n or_o gesture_n and_o much_o more_o this_o condemn_v such_o as_o by_o word_n or_o gesture_n do_v approve_v and_o countenance_v the_o wicked_a and_o such_o as_o dishonour_n god_n by_o sin_n the_o sin_n of_o the_o heathen_a be_v rom._n 1._o ult_n they_o not_o only_o do_v wicked_o but_o favour_v those_o that_o do_v so_o observe_v 3_o observe_v 3._o last_o in_o that_o our_o saviour_n refuse_v this_o honour_n which_o the_o wicked_a spirit_n seem_v to_o yield_v to_o he_o benefit_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o come_v to_o bestow_v upon_o we_o and_o upon_o his_o true_a church_n faith_n be_v the_o mean_a by_o which_o we_o come_v to_o receive_v and_o enjoy_v they_o observe_v 2_o observe_v 2._o in_o that_o our_o saviour_n do_v take_v such_o special_a notice_n of_o this_o faith_n of_o the_o blind_a man_n which_o he_o know_v to_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n and_o be_v in_o show_n and_o appearance_n only_o as_o the_o miracle_n wrought_v by_o the_o magician_n of_o egypt_n exod._n 7._o or_o if_o they_o be_v real_o do_v yet_o not_o above_o and_o beyond_o the_o power_n of_o nature_n but_o by_o some_o natural_a help_n and_o mean_n observe_v 2_o observe_v 2._o the_o greatness_n of_o this_o miracle_n in_o that_o it_o be_v wrought_v so_o sudden_o and_o in_o so_o short_a
