lead_v rule_n and_o that_o which_o rule_n be_v a_o rule_n to_o they_o that_o follow_v it_o but_o the_o spirit_n lead_v rom._n 8._o ergo_fw-la etc._n etc._n it_o be_v just_a such_o a_o sophism_n as_o that_o the_o discovery_n that_o he_o set_v up_o for_o be_v not_o the_o same_o to_o all_o nation_n and_o person_n as_o can_v easy_o be_v prove_v ten_o thousand_o will_v break_v through_o the_o hedge_n unfaithfulness_n and_o especial_o that_o like_a corah_n they_o rebel_n against_o their_o spiritual_a guide_n and_o leader_n thus_o we_o may_v see_v the_o great_a need_n of_o a_o outward_a rule_n and_o the_o great_a goodness_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v give_v we_o one_o full_a and_o perfect_o sufficient_a to_o be_v a_o rule_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o life_n in_o all_o necessary_a case_n and_o beside_o if_o w._n p_n argument_n have_v any_o truth_n in_o it_o it_o will_v infer_v that_o christ_n or_o the_o spirit_n abstract_o consider_v from_o all_o revelation_n both_o internal_a and_o allege_v that_o he_o have_v the_o first_o reformer_n father_n and_o martyr_n on_o his_o side_n viz._n that_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o the_o rule_n of_o faith_n but_o the_o light_n in_o every_o fallacious_a his_o false_a accusation_n and_o charge_n against_o the_o bishop_n and_o church_n of_o england_n and_o all_o protestant_a opponent_n to_o the_o quaker_n that_o they_o confine_v the_o the_o proposition_n be_v grant_v and_o i_o know_v none_o that_o ever_o deny_v it_o to_o wit_n that_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v god_n be_v great_a and_o more_o excellent_a than_o the_o scripture_n but_o than_o it_o follow_v not_o that_o it_o be_v the_o great_a or_o more_o excellent_a rule_n because_o proper_o speak_v it_o be_v no_o rule_n at_o all_o right_o logician_n will_v tell_v he_o if_o he_o will_v go_v and_o learn_v of_o they_o which_o it_o be_v to_o be_v suspect_v for_o all_o that_o he_o be_v a_o student_n at_o oxford_n he_o have_v great_a need_n to_o do_v that_o thing_n in_o a_o though_o the_o spirit_n be_v superior_a to_o the_o revelation_n of_o it_o whither_o internal_a or_o external_n yet_o not_o the_o spirit_n but_o his_o revelation_n be_v the_o rule_n and_o internal_a revelation_n be_v the_o rule_n to_o the_o prophet_n whereby_o they_o believe_v their_o prophecy_n and_o what_o internal_a revelation_n be_v to_o they_o external_a revelation_n be_v to_o we_o though_o we_o have_v not_o that_o internal_a revelation_n that_o they_o have_v which_o be_v prophetical_a and_o extraordinary_a but_o the_o spirit_n internal_o by_o way_n of_o seal_n seal_v to_o we_o the_o truth_n and_o certainty_n of_o the_o external_a revelation_n give_v we_o as_o sure_a ground_n for_o the_o certainty_n of_o our_o faith_n as_o they_o have_v of_o they_o but_o this_o inward_a seal_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v no_o rule_n either_o coordinate_a with_o the_o scripture_n or_o subordinate_a to_o it_o because_o it_o do_v not_o propose_v to_o we_o by_o itself_o all_o the_o thing_n necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v by_o we_o in_o verbal_a proposition_n as_o the_o seal_n of_o a_o bond_n though_o it_o be_v a_o proof_n and_o evidence_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o bond_n yet_o it_o tell_v we_o not_o the_o content_n of_o it_o and_o now_o because_o the_o bishop_n find_v fault_n with_o his_o calling_n the_o scripture_n without_o and_o the_o illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n within_o the_o double_a and_o agree_a record_n of_o true_a religion_n as_o indeed_o well_o he_o may_v so_o do_v in_o w._n p_n sense_n though_o in_o a_o qualify_a and_o sober_a sense_n it_o may_v be_v acknowledge_v as_o perceive_v the_o fallacious_a sense_n that_o w._n p._n have_v of_o those_o word_n well_o observe_v by_o the_o bishop_n that_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v what_o scripture_n say_v except_o the_o light_n within_o they_o dictate_v the_o same_o and_o yet_o none_o of_o they_o can_v just_o say_v that_o the_o light_n within_o do_v dictate_v to_o they_o by_o itself_o one_o article_n of_o that_o call_v the_o apostle_n creed_n yea_o w._n p._n do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o pretend_v that_o it_o do_v to_o he_o yet_o most_o uncivil_o he_o fall_v upon_o the_o bishop_n p._n 107_o tell_v he_o it_o must_v be_v his_o turn_n now_o to_o pity_v the_o bishop_n and_o true_o say_v he_o i_o do_v it_o with_o all_o my_o heart_n and_o this_o it_o seem_v in_o retaliation_n of_o the_o bishop_n superior_a to_o the_o scripture_n as_o the_o author_n and_o lord_n of_o they_o and_o who_o use_v they_o as_o his_o instrument_n as_o the_o work_n man_n use_v a_o rule_n or_o tool_n that_o he_o work_v withal_o but_o the_o bishop_n and_o all_o sound_a christian_n think_v that_o it_o be_v no_o dishonour_n to_o the_o spirit_n to_o acknowledge_v the_o office_n proper_a to_o he_o which_o be_v to_o rule_n and_o the_o office_n proper_a to_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n and_o instrument_n in_o the_o hand_n and_o management_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o thus_o the_o office_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v a_o far_o inferior_a office_n to_o the_o office_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o the_o servant_n and_o his_o office_n be_v inferior_a to_o the_o master_n and_o his_o office_n but_o to_o put_v the_o spirit_n in_o the_o office_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v to_o degrade_v the_o master_n and_o put_v he_o in_o the_o servant_n place_n the_o last_o thing_n i_o shall_v notice_n in_o this_o book_n of_o w._n p._n be_v not_o so_o proper_o a_o fallacy_n as_o a_o downright_a open-faced_a falsehood_n and_o false_a charge_n and_o accusation_n against_o all_o protestant_n whatsoever_o except_o the_o ordinary_a discovery_n give_v to_o all_o mankind_n 6._o the_o light_n within_o be_v the_o general_a rule_n of_o faith_n and_o life_n not_o with_o respect_n to_o these_o extraordinary_a discovery_n above_o mention_v p._n 32._o but_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o ordinary_a discovery_n give_v to_o mankind_n in_o general_a universal_o 7._o we_o have_v no_o need_n that_o the_o light_n within_o shall_v give_v we_o any_o of_o these_o extraordinary_a discovery_n p._n 32._o concern_v adam_n fall_n and_o that_o extraordinary_a manifestation_n of_o god_n in_o the_o flesh_n of_o that_o man_n improper_o call_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n because_o the_o historical_a account_n of_o these_o thing_n be_v extant_a in_o scripture_n and_o it_o not_o be_v needful_a to_o be_v give_v we_o by_o any_o new_a inward_a revelation_n we_o may_v conclude_v it_o be_v not_o give_v to_o any_o of_o we_o it_o suffice_v we_o have_v the_o historical_a account_n of_o they_o give_v we_o in_o scripture_n which_o be_v sufficient_a to_o beget_v in_o we_o a_o historical_a faith_n of_o these_o thing_n without_o any_o new_a inward_a revelation_n of_o they_o such_o as_o be_v give_v to_o the_o prophet_n and_o apostle_n 8._o the_o historical_a account_n of_o these_o thing_n though_o it_o may_v be_v call_v a_o historical_a rule_n of_o the_o historical_a faith_n of_o they_o yet_o it_o can_v be_v call_v the_o rule_n of_o faith_n and_o life_n that_o be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n for_o as_o all_o have_v not_o this_o historical_a faith_n because_o the_o history_n have_v not_o reach_v they_o so_o to_o they_o who_o have_v the_o history_n the_o historical_a faith_n do_v not_o profit_v they_o to_o salvation_n but_o do_v far_o rather_o hurt_v
