what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n 2._o queree_n 2_o how_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n be_v in_o christ_n 3._o queree_n 3_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n from_o which_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o christ_n have_v set_v we_o free_a but_o first_o if_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o christ_n do_v set_v we_o free_a from_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n than_o it_o seem_v the_o spirit_n have_v a_o law_n for_o as_o there_o be_v a_o law_n give_v by_o god_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o moses_n the_o mediator_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n so_o there_o be_v a_o law_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o it_o seem_v be_v the_o more_o powerful_a and_o glorious_a law_n the_o law_n that_o bring_v blessedness_n and_o joy_n unto_o a_o saint_n for_o its_o this_o law_n that_o bring_v life_n whereas_o the_o other_o bring_v death_n for_o the_o spirit_n must_v bring_v life_n through_o its_o own_o law_n queree_n 1_o but_o then_o the_o queerie_n be_v how_o the_o spirit_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o law_n or_o to_o have_v law_n answ_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v the_o law_n of_o spirit_n may_v be_v consider_v in_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o in_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o spirit_n 2._o in_o the_o operation_n or_o working_n of_o the_o spirit_n 3._o in_o the_o guidance_n of_o the_o spirit_n 1._o consider_v we_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o royal_a and_o giorious_a authority_n that_o the_o spirit_n have_v now_o the_o spirit_n have_v a_o double_a authority_n 1._o as_o it_o come_v from_o god_n 2._o as_o it_o be_v equal_a with_o god_n in_o the_o first_o sense_n the_o spirit_n and_o the_o law_n be_v one_o but_o in_o the_o second_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o law_n differ_v but_o i_o say_v the_o first_o part_n or_o piece_n of_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v this_o that_o it_o come_v forth_o from_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o be_v send_v forth_o from_o the_o father_n &_o the_o son_n by_o way_n of_o embassage_n &_o so_o our_o saviour_n say_v i_o will_v send_v the_o comforter_n he_o be_v a_o messenger_n send_v from_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o so_o have_v mighty_a authority_n hitherto_o the_o father_n work_v and_o i_o work_v but_o if_o the_o father_n work_v he_o work_v by_o the_o spirit_n and_o so_o if_o the_o son_n work_v he_o work_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n it_o be_v the_o same_o spirit_n come_v from_o they_o both_o and_o thus_o the_o spirit_n have_v authority_n and_o thus_o the_o law_n have_v also_o authority_n i_o mean_v the_o law_n give_v of_o god_n by_o moses_n for_o the_o law_n have_v all_o its_o authority_n as_o it_o come_v from_o god_n and_o as_o it_o be_v send_v forth_o by_o god_n so_o the_o law_n have_v true_a authority_n and_o in_o this_o consideration_n they_o both_o agree_v the_o spirit_n and_o the_o law_n both_o have_v authority_n as_o they_o come_v from_o god_n but_o then_o 2._o the_o spirit_n have_v another_o authority_n which_o the_o law_n simple_o consider_v have_v not_o that_o be_v this_o the_o spirit_n have_v authority_n in_o its_o self_n and_o from_o its_o self_n for_o the_o spirit_n have_v as_o great_a authority_n as_o he_o that_o send_v he_o god_n be_v the_o spirit_n &_o the_o spirit_n be_v god_n and_o the_o spirit_n come_v from_o the_o bosom_n of_o god_n be_v god_n himself_o and_o the_o spirit_n have_v equal_a authority_n with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o have_v power_n to_o work_v out_o of_o his_o own_o pleasure_n and_o out_o of_o his_o own_o will_n so_o say_v the_o scripture_n the_o wind_n blow_v where_o it_o list_v so_o be_v every_o man_n that_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n the_o wind_n be_v sometime_o in_o the_o east_n sometime_o in_o the_o west_n no_o man_n command_v it_o hither_o or_o thither_o no_o man_n bid_v it_o go_v here_o or_o there_o but_o it_o go_v where_o it_o will_n it_o be_v even_o so_o with_o the_o spirit_n he_o have_v authority_n to_o lay_v hold_n of_o one_o man_n and_o not_o another_o to_o choose_v this_o man_n and_o to_o give_v life_n to_o that_o person_n and_o so_o suffer_v another_o to_o lie_v under_o death_n and_o misery_n for_o the_o spirit_n have_v that_o prerogative_n wherein_o he_o be_v not_o only_o as_o a_o messenger_n but_o be_v equal_a with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o so_o the_o royal_a authority_n of_o the_o spirit_n exceed_o surpass_v the_o law_n though_o the_o law_n have_v also_o authority_n from_o god_n but_o then_o 2._o the_o spirit_n may_v be_v say_v to_o have_v a_o law_n or_o
righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o go_v about_o to_o set_v up_o their_o own_o righteousness_n which_o be_v by_o the_o law_n have_v not_o submit_v to_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n and_o so_o though_o they_o have_v a_o zeal_n of_o god_n in_o the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o be_v without_o a_o christ_n they_o be_v without_o a_o spirit_n and_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n thus_o you_o have_v see_v the_o character_n of_o the_o man_n that_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n and_o they_o be_v next_o to_o be_v inform_v of_o their_o woeful_a and_o miserable_a condition_n from_o this_o point_n and_o the_o first_o word_n it_o speak_v to_o they_o be_v no_o less_o than_o this_o they_o shall_v die_v die_v eternal_o it_o be_v the_o direct_a word_n of_o the_o apostle_n rom_n 8.13_o for_o if_o you_o live_v after_o the_o flesh_n you_o shall_v die_v eternal_o for_o they_o that_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n shall_v not_o inherit_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n no_o spiritual_a peace_n no_o true_a contentment_n nor_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n thy_o pleasure_n be_v dead_a pleasure_n thy_o comfort_n be_v dead_a comfort_n thy_o life_n be_v a_o dead_a life_n for_o if_o thou_o look_v upon_o thoy_z best_o comfort_n and_o pleasure_n thou_o shall_v find_v bitterness_n and_o sorrow_n in_o they_o a_o secret_a inward_a anguish_n in_o they_o so_o that_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v compare_v with_o those_o live_a pleasure_n and_o that_o glorious_a sweetness_n and_o peace_n that_o saint_n have_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o so_o may_v i_o say_v of_o all_o that_o thou_o injoye_v ah_o poor_a creature_n hâ—w_o sad_a be_v thy_o condition_n if_o it_o be_v bitterness_n in_o the_o be_v gine_v it_o will_v much_o more_o be_v bitter_a in_o the_o latter_a end_n and_o how_o searfull_a will_v that_o wait_v of_o vergence_n be_v when_o it_o shall_v full_o seâ—â—e_v upon_o thou_o and_o now_o i_o can_v but_o bewail_v and_o pity_v thy_o condition_n and_o thy_o deplorable_a estate_n nor_o can_v i_o leave_v thou_o here_o in_o it_o but_o 3._o use_v to_o invite_v poor_a sinner_n to_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n use_v 3_o in_o the_o next_o use_n with_o yern_v bowel_n and_o melt_a affection_n be_v so_o deep_o affect_v with_o thy_o miserable_a condition_n desire_v to_o fall_v a_o woo_n of_o thou_o to_o come_v over_o unto_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o through_o his_o spirit_n thou_o may_v be_v free_v from_o this_o condition_n and_o a_o beseech_v of_o thou_o to_o be_v marry_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n that_o thou_o may_v be_v dead_a to_o the_o law_n what_o can_v thou_o object_v against_o he_o that_o thou_o shall_v not_o embrace_v he_o i_o know_v that_o thou_o will_v answer_v that_o thou_o can_v not_o object_v against_o he_o but_o against_o thyself_o thou_o be_v a_o great_a sinner_n but_o what_o though_o thou_o be_v 5.20_o 2._o cor._n 5.20_o yet_o he_o woe_v thou_o and_o send_v his_o messenger_n to_o we_o thou_o and_o will_v meaning_n be_v either_o one_o or_o both_o of_o these_o two_o thing_n either_o 1._o by_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n he_o must_v mean_v the_o power_n of_o sin_n or_o 2._o by_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n he_o mean_v that_o law_n which_o give_v sin_n a_o be_v and_o give_v it_o power_n to_o destroy_v now_o though_o the_o first_o of_o these_o may_v be_v here_o include_v yet_o he_o main_o intend_v the_o second_o in_o this_o place_n as_o i_o shall_v show_v by_o and_o by_o but_o if_o he_o do_v here_o any_o thing_n aim_n at_o the_o first_o in_o this_o place_n it_o be_v as_o sin_n be_v a_o law_n and_o sin_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o law_n under_o these_o two_o signification_n 1._o as_o it_o have_v a_o mighty_a power_n in_o 〈◊〉_d or_o 2._o as_o it_o have_v a_o certain_a kind_n of_o confuse_a rule_n 1._o it_o have_v a_o mighty_a power_n for_o so_o say_v the_o scripture_n the_o flesh_n lu_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o where_o there_o be_v lust_n there_o be_v love_n and_o love_n be_v as_o strong_a as_o death_n either_o in_o good_a thing_n or_o in_o evil_a and_o so_o sin_n have_v its_o power_n but_o 2._o it_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o uncertain_a rule_n and_o method_n for_o there_o be_v a_o method_n in_o pleasure_n and_o lust_n and_o sinful_a joy_n after_o a_o carnal_a manner_n and_o so_o sin_n be_v a_o law_n but_o that_o which_o the_o apostle_n here_o mean_n be_v 2._o the_o law_n which_o be_v the_o law_n that_o occasion_n sin_n which_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n free_v we_o from_o to_o this_o purpose_n observe_v but_o the_o 23._o verse_n of_o the_o seven_o chapter_n which_o run_v thus_o but_o i_o see_v another_o law_n in_o my_o membr_n war_a against_o the_o law_n of_o my_o mind_n and_o bring_v i_o into_o captivity_n unto_o the_o law_n of_o occasion_n sin_n for_o here_o be_v law_n against_o law_n bring_v into_o captivity_n to_o law_n the_o law_n of_o sin_n in_o his_o member_n rebel_a against_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o his_o mind_n or_o his_o inward_a man_n for_o say_v paul_n i_o do_v see_v another_o law_n in_o my_o member_n and_o this_o law_n in_o his_o member_n be_v the_o power_n of_o sin_n work_v through_o concupiscence_n and_o lust_n carry_v he_o contrary_a to_o god_n rebel_a say_v he_o against_o the_o law_n of_o my_o mind_n meaning_n against_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o his_o heart_n or_o the_o spirit_n in_o his_o heart_n as_o a_o law_n and_o so_o as_o he_o say_v in_o another_o place_n the_o flesh_n lu_v against_o the_o spirit_n lead_v i_o captive_a to_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n mean_v by_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n here_o in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o law_n of_o which_o he_o speak_v in_o the_o text._n the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n which_o be_v the_o law_n that_o occasion_n sin_n and_o death_n or_o the_o law_n of_o commandment_n and_o this_o appear_v in_o the_o verse_n follow_v the_o text_n for_o the_o apostle_n have_v say_v in_o the_o text_n that_o the_o saint_n be_v free_a from_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n in_o the_o next_o verse_n he_o show_v what_o that_o law_n be_v in_o these_o word_n for_o what_o the_o law_n can_v not_o do_v in_o that_o it_o be_v weak_a through_o the_o flesh_n god_n send_v his_o own_o son_n etc._n etc._n what_o be_v that_o which_o the_o law_n can_v not_o do_v that_o the_o son_n of_o god_n do_v for_o we_o answer_v 1._o the_o
