christ_n reformation_n what_o be_v the_o reformation_n of_o the_o outward_a man_n when_o the_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o atheism_n ignorance_n of_o god_n adultery_n pride_n murder_n etc._n etc._n and_o all_o the_o corruption_n of_o nature_n call_z you_o this_o a_o reformation_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n this_o reformation_n make_v none_o saint_n but_o all_o hypocrite_n force_v man_n action_n some_o handsomeness_n and_o conformity_n they_o have_v bring_v about_o a_o excellent_a reformation_n though_o the_o heart_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n remain_v as_o sinful_a vile_a and_o corrupt_a as_o ever_o and_o so_o altogether_o unreformed_a and_o so_o this_o reformation_n be_v like_o that_o reformation_n of_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n notorious_a hypocrite_n who_o make_v clean_o only_a the_o outside_n of_o the_o cup_n or_o platter_n leave_v they_o all_o filthy_a and_o unclean_a within_o and_o white_v over_o sepulchre_n to_o make_v they_o beautiful_a 25._o outward_o when_o inward_o they_o be_v full_a of_o rottenness_n and_o corruption_n so_o civil-ecclesiastical_a reformation_n make_v a_o man_n clean_o outward_o with_o a_o outward_a confession_n of_o faith_n when_o inward_o he_o be_v all_o filthy_a through_o unbelief_n and_o white_n he_o over_o with_o a_o few_o handsome_a form_n of_o worship_n when_o inward_o he_o be_v full_a of_o ignorance_n of_o god_n and_o atheism_n obj._n now_o if_o any_o ask_v but_o must_v there_o be_v no_o change_n of_o outward_a thing_n in_o the_o reformation_n of_o the_o gospel_n answ._n i_o answer_v yes_o a_o outward_a change_n that_o flow_v god_n strength_n and_o our_o own_o wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n by_o the_o come_n in_o of_o god_n wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n but_o now_o civil-ecclesiastical_a reformation_n reform_v sin_n by_o the_o half_n aswell_o as_o the_o man_n and_o so_o only_o reform_v outward_a and_o gross_a sin_n such_o as_o run_v into_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n which_o be_v the_o least_o by_o a_o thousand_o time_n of_o the_o evil_n that_o a_o man_n have_v and_o act_n but_o the_o great_a part_n of_o sin_n it_o still_o leave_v within_o as_o it_o be_v four_o it_o be_v a_o powerful_a and_o mighty_a reformation_n it_o be_v wrought_v in_o a_o man_n by_o the_o very_a power_n of_o god_n even_o by_o the_o right_a powerful_a hand_n of_o his_o righteousness_n and_o so_o no_o sin_n lust_n corruption_n though_o never_o so_o mighty_a be_v able_a to_o refist_n this_o work_n of_o god_n by_o the_o gospel_n but_o it_o make_v the_o whole_a body_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n of_o the_o devil_n fly_v in_o piece_n before_o it_o the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o create_v and_o redeem_v the_o elect_a may_v as_o well_o be_v resist_v as_o the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o reform_v they_o for_o it_o be_v and_o if_o the_o love_n of_o god_n have_v not_o put_v forth_o this_o power_n in_o the_o soul_n a_o christian_a have_v never_o be_v reform_v no_o not_o from_o one_o sin_n now_o the_o power_n of_o this_o reformation_n eminent_o appear_v in_o that_o it_o change_v the_o very_a nature_n of_o man_n it_o find_v they_o lion_n it_o make_v they_o lamb_n it_o find_v they_o wolf_n it_o make_v they_o mighty_a so_o civil-ecclesiastical_a reformation_n be_v weak_a for_o as_o the_o former_a have_v the_o power_n of_o god_n engage_v in_o it_o so_o this_o late_a have_v only_o the_o power_n of_o man_n can_v undertake_v and_o so_o the_o reformation_n manage_v by_o the_o mighty_a and_o severe_a power_n of_o man_n be_v weak_a as_o water_v in_o this_o business_n of_o change_a nature_n and_o can_v only_o change_v some_o outward_a form_n and_o posture_n and_o the_o like_a leave_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n a_o man_n nature_n the_o same_o it_o be_v before_o it_o only_o put_v sheep_n clothing_n upon_o man_n which_o be_v easy_o do_v but_o still_o leave_v they_o wolf_n underneath_o five_o it_o be_v a_o constant_a reformation_n a_o reformation_n which_o be_v once_o begin_v be_v never_o intermit_v again_o till_o all_o be_v perfect_v constant_a for_o as_o long_o a_o god_n nature_n dwell_v in_o we_o it_o will_v ever_o be_v reform_v our_o nature_n to_o itself_o till_o it_o be_v altogether_o like_o it_o as_o long_o as_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n dwell_v in_o the_o flesh_n it_o will_v still_o be_v reform_v the_o flesh_n to_o the_o spirit_n till_o the_o whole_a body_n of_o sin_n be_v destroy_v and_o the_o natural_a man_n be_v make_v spiritual_a so_o that_o the_o whole-time_n of_o this_o life_n that_o be_v live_v in_o faith_n that_o be_v in_o union_n with_o christ_n be_v a_o time_n of_o continual_a reformation_n and_o a_o christian_n be_v daily_o wash_v cleanse_a and_o purify_n himself_o till_o he_o purify_v himself_o even_o as_o christ_n be_v pure_a but_o now_o civil-ecclesiastical_a reformation_n at_o first_o make_v a_o great_a noise_n and_o tumult_n in_o the_o world_n and_o after_o lie_v as_o still_o as_o a_o stone_n for_o such_o reformation_n reform_v only_o change_v some_o outward_a work_n leave_v the_o nature_n the_o self_n same_o that_o it_o be_v as_o you_o have_v hear_v now_o where_o the_o work_n be_v contrary_a to_o nature_n nature_n by_o degree_n return_v to_o itself_o again_o and_o put_v a_o end_n to_o those_o work_n and_o so_o there_o be_v a_o end_n of_o that_o reformation_n and_o thus_o you_o see_v what_o gospel-reformation_n be_v and_o how_o qualify_v whereby_o you_o see_v it_o clear_o difference_v from_o civil-ecclesiastical_a reformation_n and_o oh_o that_o that_o prophecy_n may_v here_o be_v fulfil_v isa._n 32._o 3._o the_o give_v to_o i_o of_o my_o father_n say_v christ_n and_o the_o church_n above_o all_o other_o thing_n thou_o they_o be_v and_o thou_o give_v they_o i_o thou_o they_o be_v by_o election_n and_o thou_o give_v they_o i_o that_o i_o may_v redeem_v they_o and_o reform_v they_o and_o present_v they_o to_o thou_o again_o without_o spot_n so_o that_o the_o father_n have_v commit_v the_o care_n of_o the_o reformation_n of_o the_o church_n to_o christ_n and_o second_o christ_n have_v take_v this_o care_n upon_o himself_o out_o it_o of_o obedience_n to_o his_o father_n and_o love_n to_o his_o church_n 1._o out_o of_o obedience_n to_o his_o father_n for_o he_o say_v i_o come_v not_o to_o do_v obedience_n my_o own_o will_n but_o the_o will_n of_o he_o that_o send_v i_o and_o this_o be_v the_o will_n of_o he_o that_o send_v i_o that_o of_o all_o that_o he_o have_v give_v i_o i_o shall_v lose_v none_o and_o so_o christ_n reform_v all_o that_o he_o may_v lose_v none_o out_o of_o obedience_n to_o his_o father_n 2._o out_o of_o love_n to_o his_o church_n he_o take_v this_o care_n and_o charge_n on_o love_n he_o for_o such_o be_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o church_n everywhere_o so_o glorious_o discover_v in_o the_o gospel_n that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o give_v himself_o for_o we_o to_o redeem_v we_o but_o also_o give_v himself_o to_o we_o to_o reform_v we_o christ_n die_v for_o we_o be_v our_o redemption_n christ_n dwell_v and_o live_v in_o we_o be_v our_o reformation_n three_o this_o work_n of_o reformation_n be_v only_o suitable_a to_o and_o christ_n convenient_a for_o christ_n the_o head_n as_o have_v so_o near_o and_o dear_a interest_n in_o the_o church_n his_o body_n and_o so_o he_o be_v full_a of_o love_n and_o bowel_n and_o tender_a compassion_n to_o the_o church_n he_o will_v not_o deal_v rough_o rugged_o and_o boisterous_o with_o the_o saint_n he_o will_v not_o grieve_v they_o and_o vex_v they_o and_o oppress_v they_o and_o crush_v they_o in_o piece_n but_o he_o be_v their_o head_n will_v deal_v meek_o and_o gentle_o with_o they_o he_o will_v not_o break_v the_o bruise_a reed_n nor_o quench_v the_o smoke_a flax_n when_o he_o be_v reform_v the_o sin_n and_o corruption_n of_o the_o faithful_a he_o deal_v with_o they_o in_o the_o very_a love_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n and_o will_v not_o put_v they_o to_o more_o sorrow_n than_o needs_o must_v and_o when_o he_o must_v needs_o put_v they_o to_o sorrow_n in_o the_o flesh_n for_o flesh_n can_v choose_v but_o mourn_v to_o part_n with_o itself_o utter_o in_o this_o reformation_n yet_o he_o be_v present_a with_o the_o comfort_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o when_o he_o have_v smite_v they_o be_v ready_a to_o heal_v they_o and_o to_o bind_v they_o up_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o have_v break_v they_o he_o deal_v with_o every_o christian_a in_o this_o reformation_n as_o tender_o as_o a_o man_n do_v with_o one_o of_o his_o own_o member_n that_o be_v in_o grief_n and_o anguish_n he_o regard_v and_o handle_v he_o as_o his_o own_o body_n as_o his_o own_o flesh_n and_o so_o the_o reformation_n of_o christ_n be_v altogether_o for_o edification_n and_o not_o at_o all_o for_o destruction_n for_o

the_o more_o be_v we_o make_v like_o unto_o he_o that_o as_o we_o have_v bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o earthly_a so_o we_o may_v bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o heavenly_a adam_n 2._o yea_o the_o flesh_n into_o its_o own_o likeness_n for_o the_o spirit_n be_v as_o fire_v that_o change_v every_o thing_n into_o its_o self_n and_o so_o do_v the_o spirit_n in_o the_o flesh_n make_v the_o flesh_n spiritual_a like_o heavenly_a fire_n it_o change_v man_n into_o its_o own_o likeness_n and_o make_v they_o spiritual_a heavenly_a holy_a meek_a good_a love_a etc._n etc._n and_o thus_o the_o spirit_n reform_v indeed_o when_o the_o spirit_n be_v pour_v forth_o upon_o a_o man_n how_o wonderful_o do_v it_o reform_v he_o this_o work_v a_o change_n in_o he_o in_o goodearne_a and_o no_o man_n be_v not_o of_o force_n and_o fury_n civil-ecclesiastical_a reformation_n reform_v by_o breathe_v out_o man_n threaten_n punishment_n prison_n fire_n and_o death_n but_o the_o gospel_n by_o preach_v peace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v most_o unbeseeming_a the_o gospel_n to_o do_v any_o thing_n rash_o and_o violent_o for_o the_o advancement_n thereof_o for_o the_o gospel_n of_o peace_n be_v not_o to_o be_v advance_v by_o violence_n and_o therefore_o violent_a reformer_n live_v in_o contradiction_n to_o the_o gospel_n of_o peace_n and_o can_v be_v true_o reckon_v christian_n but_o enemy_n to_o christianity_n sith_o
the_o assemble_n of_o the_o saint_n both_o public_o and_o private_o as_o occasion_n serve_v see_v this_o can_v be_v no_o prejudice_n to_o the_o state_n but_o a_o great_a advantage_n in_o as_o much_o the_o oil_n of_o god_n and_o so_o be_v anoint_a as_o christ_n be_v anoint_v and_o these_o anoint_a one_o be_v the_o lord_n prophet_n and_o the_o lord_n have_v no_o prophet_n but_o such_o as_o be_v anoint_a with_o the_o spirit_n thus_o christ_n be_v make_v the_o lord_n prophet_n the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v upon_o i_o for_o he_o have_v anoint_v i_o to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n and_o
