for_o strength_n and_o increase_v and_o grow_v in_o grace_n for_o it_o be_v true_a indeed_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n may_v indeed_o cut_v we_o off_o from_o some_o bad_a way_n but_o when_o it_o have_v do_v so_o it_o leave_v we_o there_o leave_v we_o in_o a_o estate_n wherein_o we_o will_v not_o give_v offence_n and_o will_v not_o displease_v man_n that_o be_v grave_a and_o wise_a and_o this_o we_o may_v reach_v unto_o without_o respect_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n or_o any_o inward_a regard_n of_o his_o holy_a fear_n but_o when_o as_o we_o be_v quicken_v to_o live_v by_o virtue_n of_o some_o promise_n than_o the_o love_n of_o god_n constrain_v we_o to_o live_v to_o obedience_n and_o good_a end_n than_o our_o respect_n can_v reach_v heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a end_n and_o therefore_o observe_v this_o as_o of_o necessary_a use_n for_o any_o man_n that_o as_o he_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o be_v deceive_v in_o a_o counterfeit_a piece_n of_o money_n so_o much_o more_o let_v he_o be_v careful_a in_o the_o main_a point_n of_o his_o everlasting_a estate_n on_o this_o depend_v our_o have_v or_o not_o have_v of_o life_n and_o therefore_o it_o behoove_v we_o to_o be_v sure_a that_o we_o be_v not_o disappoint_v in_o this_o great_a mystery_n of_o godliness_n and_o consider_v serious_o upon_o what_o your_o hope_n and_o confidence_n be_v breed_v and_o whence_o it_o be_v ground_v quest_n you_o will_v say_v but_o be_v it_o not_o ordinary_a that_o the_o word_n of_o the_o law_n do_v humble_a and_o cast_v down_o the_o heart_n and_o spirit_n before_o god_n and_o cut_v they_o off_o from_o all_o confidence_n in_o the_o flesh_n before_o they_o come_v to_o lay_v hold_n of_o the_o promise_n of_o grace_n in_o christ_n answ_n true_o it_o be_v so_o indeed_o that_o his_o loose_a course_n and_o set_v himself_o to_o a_o more_o strict_a course_n than_o he_o begin_v to_o see_v his_o acquisite_a learning_n be_v but_o a_o small_a matter_n to_o edification_n he_o all_o these_o there_o may_v be_v some_o iniquity_n in_o their_o hand_n for_o which_o cause_n god_n will_v not_o show_v mercy_n to_o they_o see_v and_o observe_v if_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o it_o be_v to_o have_v the_o son_n by_o a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n but_o of_o this_o we_o shall_v have_v further_a occasion_n to_o speak_v in_o the_o 14_o 15_o and_o 16_o verse_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v leave_v it_o now_o and_o speak_v to_o it_o then_o you_o may_v remember_v we_o say_v there_o be_v three_o note_n to_o discern_v whether_o we_o have_v the_o son_n no._n the_o first_o be_v if_o we_o desire_v not_o christ_n for_o his_o benefit_n but_o chief_o for_o himself_o the_o second_o be_v if_o we_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o son_n we_o now_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o a_o three_o sign_n a_o point_n more_o easy_a to_o be_v gather_v then_o the_o former_a but_o though_o most_o common_a yet_o not_o to_o be_v neglect_v but_o be_v well_o apply_v will_v be_v of_o special_a use_n to_o the_o edification_n and_o salvation_n of_o the_o hearer_n for_o every_o truth_n in_o his_o place_n be_v divine_a and_o precious_a prince_n the_o three_o sign_n he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v he_o for_o his_o prince_n and_o therefore_o the_o next_o note_n be_v this_o he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n he_o have_v he_o not_o only_o for_o a_o saviour_n but_o for_o his_o lord_n and_o the_o prince_n a_o point_n which_o upon_o sundry_a occasion_n have_v be_v touch_v but_o now_o to_o speak_v of_o it_o more_o full_o there_o be_v no_o man_n that_o have_v the_o son_n but_o as_o he_o have_v he_o for_o his_o saviour_n so_o he_o have_v he_o for_o his_o prince_n act_v 3_o 3â—_n he_o have_v god_n exalt_v with_o his_o right_a hand_n who_o they_o slay_v a_o prince_n and_o a_o saviour_n so_o that_o he_o that_o have_v christ_n have_v he_o not_o only_o as_o a_o saviour_n but_o as_o a_o prince_n to_o whosoever_o he_o be_v a_o saviour_n to_o they_o he_o be_v also_o become_v a_o prince_n it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a dishonour_n to_o he_o to_o save_v they_o who_o he_o do_v not_o rule_v to_o save_v they_o from_o the_o power_n of_o the_o grave_n and_o to_o leave_v they_o still_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o unbroken_v off_o from_o their_o evil_a way_n it_o be_v much_o dishonour_n to_o he_o it_o be_v a_o dishonour_n to_o parent_n to_o have_v child_n and_o to_o have_v they_o untaught_a and_o unmannerly_a and_o god_n have_v give_v the_o life_n blood_n of_o his_o own_o son_n to_o purchase_v we_o unto_o himself_o and_o therefore_o he_o will_v not_o only_o save_v we_o but_o rule_v we_o or_o else_o we_o shall_v never_o have_v he_o for_o our_o saviour_n so_o that_o here_o be_v two_o point_n to_o be_v open_v point_n 1_o first_o he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v he_o for_o his_o saviour_n point_n 2_o second_o he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v he_o also_o for_o his_o lord_n it_o be_v a_o usual_a say_n every_o man_n will_v have_v christ_n for_o a_o saviour_n but_o rare_a be_v those_o that_o will_v have_v he_o for_o their_o ruler_n and_o governor_n but_o though_o the_o say_n be_v true_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o common_a conceit_n of_o man_n yet_o in_o truth_n i_o say_v they_o be_v but_o rare_a christian_n that_o will_v have_v he_o for_o a_o saviour_n so_o far_o off_o be_v they_o from_o desire_v he_o as_o their_o lord_n for_o two_o thing_n there_o be_v that_o go_v to_o the_o have_v of_o christ_n for_o a_o saviour_n thing_n to_o have_v christ_n for_o a_o saviour_n require_v two_o thing_n first_o he_o that_o will_v have_v christ_n for_o a_o saviour_n must_v look_v up_o to_o he_o for_o salvation_n in_o all_o his_o way_n and_o distress_n we_o have_v other_o saviour_n but_o not_o he_o if_o we_o look_v for_o salvation_n elsewhere_o esa_n 40.22_o look_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o end_v of_o the_o earth_n and_o be_v you_o save_v there_o be_v no_o god_n nor_o saviour_n beside_o i_o &_o therefore_o look_v to_o i_o and_o be_v you_o save_v so_o that_o if_o a_o man_n will_v have_v god_n for_o his_o saviour_n he_o must_v look_v to_o he_o from_o one_o end_n of_o the_o earth_n to_o the_o other_o we_o be_v at_o the_o utmost_a corner_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o if_o we_o will_v be_v save_v we_o must_v look_v up_o to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n for_o salvation_n as_o david_n look_v towards_o the_o temple_n at_o jerusalem_n for_o salvation_n
your_o soul_n do_v cleave_v unto_o then_o be_v you_o indeed_o bear_v to_o a_o spiritual_a life_n because_o you_o be_v right_o breed_v breed_v of_o a_o promise_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o god_n but_o if_o you_o find_v yourselves_o to_o be_v of_o another_o frame_n and_o you_o be_v bow_v to_o walk_v with_o god_n and_o to_o reform_v your_o course_n of_o life_n by_o outward_a bound_n this_o be_v not_o so_o safe_a but_o if_o your_o whole_a man_n universal_o be_v bow_v to_o a_o godly_a holy_a frame_n and_o all_o thing_n be_v become_v new_a new_a friend_n new_a affection_n new_a desire_n if_o you_o find_v such_o a_o universal_a change_n than_o you_o be_v right_o breed_v christian_n and_o indeed_o no_o christian_n be_v right_o breed_v but_o such_o christian_n but_o if_o you_o make_v a_o great_a stir_n about_o the_o great_a reformation_n that_o be_v wrought_v in_o you_o and_o it_o be_v from_o the_o good_a inclination_n and_o disposition_n you_o have_v always_o have_v you_o ever_o have_v a_o good_a mind_n and_o in_o the_o end_n you_o thank_v god_n you_o have_v reform_v such_o and_o such_o evil_n as_o you_o have_v be_v blame_v for_o time_n be_v when_o you_o can_v have_v free_o play_v at_o card_n and_o die_n but_o since_o than_o you_o see_v the_o vanity_n of_o it_o this_o note_v this_o and_o you_o take_v better_a course_n and_o do_v now_o consort_v yourselves_o with_o well_o order_v and_o stay_v company_n you_o have_v always_o a_o good_a mind_n to_o be_v better_o but_o you_o can_v not_o do_v it_o sudden_o and_o so_o in_o the_o conclusion_n your_o reformation_n be_v but_o a_o good_a inclination_n or_o disposition_n of_o your_o mind_n and_o if_o you_o see_v that_o much_o good_a have_v be_v wrought_v upon_o you_o by_o the_o counsel_n of_o such_o and_o such_o friend_n and_o by_o the_o good_a example_n of_o such_o and_o such_o wise_a and_o discreet_a friend_n and_o if_o you_o find_v that_o there_o be_v some_o strange_a change_n in_o your_o carriage_n your_o course_n of_o life_n be_v much_o alter_v you_o be_v not_o so_o light_a and_o wanton_a as_o you_o be_v but_o you_o take_v a_o far_o more_o grave_a and_o wise_a and_o stay_v course_n and_o to_o much_o better_a purpose_n both_o for_o church_n and_o commonwealth_n wherein_o you_o live_v now_o i_o say_v if_o you_o shall_v go_v on_o and_o look_v for_o that_o spiritual_a life_n which_o only_o spring_v from_o christ_n jesus_n and_o will_v lead_v on_o to_o eternal_a glory_n and_o therefore_o rest_v not_o in_o any_o reformation_n of_o yourselves_o till_o you_o find_v there_o be_v such_o a_o inward_a and_o whole_a change_n wrought_v in_o you_o which_o the_o heart_n be_v wont_a to_o speak_v of_o to_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n grace_n it_o be_v god_n will_v else_o it_o can_v never_o have_v be_v wrought_v and_o you_o can_v not_o speak_v of_o it_o till_o now_o and_o you_o never_o rest_v satisfy_v in_o such_o a_o change_n as_o a_o word_n of_o reproof_n or_o counsel_n that_o have_v wrought_v such_o a_o change_n or_o reformation_n in_o you_o that_o stay_v in_o the_o outward_a man_n or_o in_o some_o affection_n till_o you_o find_v your_o heart_n to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n grace_n in_o the_o acknowledgement_n of_o the_o word_n of_o promise_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n make_v you_o new_a that_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o say_v that_o in_o very_a deed_n you_o have_v christ_n and_o with_o christ_n life_n and_o that_o life_n which_o will_v never_o decay_v but_o will_v hold_v to_o all_o eternity_n and_o therefore_o now_o to_o speak_v something_o of_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o life_n of_o our_o justification_n therefore_o a_o second_o sort_n of_o sign_n it_o sign_n of_o spiritual_a life_n from_o the_o effect_n of_o it_o be_v take_v from_o the_o effect_n of_o spiritual_a life_n you_o see_v what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o as_o the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o god_n the_o word_n of_o promise_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n these_o be_v the_o first_o sort_n of_o sign_n now_o a_o second_o sort_n of_o sign_n be_v from_o the_o effect_n and_o fruit_n of_o life_n and_o herein_o take_v notice_n of_o some_o fruit_n of_o your_o life_n of_o justification_n justification_n life_n of_o justification_n it_o be_v a_o principal_a part_n of_o our_o spiritual_a life_n to_o have_v our_o sin_n forgive_v bless_a be_v the_o man_n who_o iniquity_n be_v pardon_v and_o to_o who_o the_o lord_n impute_v no_o sin_n psal_n 32.1_o 2._o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n be_v call_v justification_n then_o god_n account_v we_o righteous_a and_o this_o be_v call_v justification_n of_o life_n rom._n 5.18_o because_o in_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n be_v our_o life_n as_o when_o a_o malefactor_n by_o the_o law_n be_v condemn_v he_o be_v by_o the_o law_n a_o dead_a man_n and_o if_o his_o pardon_n come_v his_o pardon_n be_v his_o life_n and_o it_o be_v so_o indeed_o so_o be_v it_o in_o this_o case_n the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n be_v the_o very_a life_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o if_o god_n give_v we_o to_o find_v that_o life_n there_o be_v no_o fear_n of_o the_o life_n of_o our_o sanctification_n or_o consolation_n etc._n etc._n the_o first_o effect_n then_o that_o flow_v from_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n be_v some_o inward_a peace_n of_o conscience_n sin_n inward_a peace_n flow_v from_o pardon_n of_o sin_n some_o inward_a refreshment_n and_o satisfaction_n yield_v to_o the_o heart_n that_o it_o can_v never_o attain_v to_o before_o for_o sin_n may_v be_v pardon_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o that_o pardon_n be_v not_o manifest_v and_o declare_v to_o my_o soul_n until_o god_n vouchsafe_v i_o some_o measure_n of_o peace_n and_o a_o manifestation_n of_o the_o free_a pardon_n of_o my_o sin_n i_o can_v have_v little_a rest_n it_o be_v a_o notable_a say_n rom._n 5.1_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n a_o man_n justify_v be_v one_o that_o have_v his_o sin_n pardon_v for_o what_o be_v it_o that_o all_o our_o life_n time_n before_o make_v we_o afraid_a of_o god_n displeasure_n and_o we_o have_v much_o disquietness_n about_o our_o estate_n oh_o the_o sin_n of_o our_o soul_n that_o we_o have_v commit_v all_o our_o life_n long_o the_o sin_n commit_v many_o a_o day_n ago_o that_o now_o lie_v heavy_a upon_o our_o soul_n and_o the_o want_n of_o pardon_n lay_v as_o heavy_a as_o our_o sin_n but_o now_o if_o god_n come_v and_o say_v thy_o sin_n be_v pardon_v then_o follow_v a_o sweet_a tranquillity_n of_o peace_n in_o the_o soul_n a_o matter_n that_o philosopher_n have_v talk_v of_o to_o quiet_a the_o mind_n to_o lull_v man_n asleep_a and_o with_o apply_v remedy_n do_v stupisie_n for_o a_o while_n and_o take_v off_o the_o heavy_a burden_n or_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o burden_n rather_o than_o the_o burden_n itself_o but_o so_o soon_o as_o ever_o god_n pardon_v sin_n there_o be_v shed_v abroad_o a_o spirit_n of_o peace_n in_o our_o soul_n and_o sometime_o in_o that_o unspeakable_a measure_n as_o that_o it_o pass_v the_o understanding_n of_o a_o man_n to_o conceive_v this_o note_v this_o phil._n 4.7_o but_o i_o do_v not_o so_o conceive_v that_o every_o christian_n as_o soon_o as_o ever_o his_o sin_n be_v first_o pardon_v have_v such_o a_o unconceivable_a peace_n in_o his_o soul_n but_o he_o find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ease_n sometime_o as_o if_o you_o have_v throw_v a_o millstone_n from_o off_o his_o body_n notable_a be_v that_o expression_n in_o esa_n 32.17_o the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n shall_v be_v peace_n and_o the_o effect_n of_o righteousness_n quietness_n and_o assurance_n for_o ever_o he_o speak_v of_o that_o righteousness_n whereby_o we_o stand_v righteous_a before_o god_n and_o the_o imputation_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n to_o our_o soul_n the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n shall_v be_v peace_n from_o this_o work_n and_o effect_v you_o may_v gather_v what_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o be_v bless_a be_v such_o it_o be_v quietness_n and_o assurance_n for_o ever_o not_o that_o there_o be_v a_o everlasting_a sense_n of_o that_o peace_n for_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o be_v sometime_o obscure_v for_o want_n of_o watchfulness_n and_o want_v of_o experience_n in_o the_o way_n of_o godliness_n and_o sometime_o through_o the_o buffet_n of_o satan_n or_o desertion_n from_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o so_o many_o time_n our_o peace_n may_v be_v overclouded_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o take_v away_o but_o the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n be_v peace_n if_o sin_n be_v pardon_v peace_n will_v follow_v upon_o it_o and_o the_o fruit_n of_o this_o righteousness_n be_v quietness_n and_o assurance_n for_o ever_o the_o heart_n
also_o the_o life_n of_o justification_n you_o hear_v have_v these_o three_o effect_n or_o fruit_n in_o the_o heart_n peace_n quietness_n and_o assurance_n for_o ever_o care_v to_o keep_v our_o conscience_n pacify_v in_o some_o measure_n careful_a to_o maintain_v that_o peace_n we_o have_v have_v so_o much_o ado_n to_o get_v and_o also_o love_v of_o god_n according_a to_o the_o abundance_n of_o sin_n that_o have_v be_v pardon_v to_o we_o we_o be_v now_o speak_v of_o the_o effect_n of_o life_n and_o now_o to_o speak_v of_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o life_n of_o our_o sanctification_n sanctification_n life_n of_o sanctification_n he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v life_n not_o only_o in_o the_o pardon_n of_o his_o sin_n but_o he_o have_v likewise_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n which_o be_v the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n a_o frame_n of_o grace_n wrought_v in_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v the_o life_n of_o holiness_n now_o because_o sanctification_n be_v find_v partly_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o partly_o in_o the_o life_n let_v i_o now_o show_v you_o some_o such_o effect_n of_o spiritual_a life_n as_o be_v find_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a and_o breathe_v forth_o themselves_o in_o his_o life_n by_o those_o habit_n and_o gift_n which_o be_v principal_o within_o and_o the_o sum_n of_o what_o i_o shall_v now_o say_v be_v thus_o much_o there_o be_v certain_a variety_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o themselves_o so_o different_a and_o opposite_a as_o that_o in_o nature_n they_o be_v seldom_o compatible_a to_o one_o person_n at_o one_o and_o the_o same_o time_n or_o least_o of_o all_o to_o be_v find_v in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o business_n and_o yet_o be_v find_v where_o ever_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n be_v sanctify_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n where_o you_o have_v the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n in_o a_o christian_a you_o shall_v find_v variety_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o some_o of_o they_o of_o such_o diversity_n and_o opposition_n one_o to_o another_o that_o in_o nature_n the_o like_a temper_n be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o one_o person_n at_o the_o same_o time_n and_o in_o the_o same_o business_n they_o be_v certain_a kind_n of_o conjugation_n or_o companion_n of_o grace_n so_o fit_v and_o join_v together_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n as_o that_o nature_n be_v not_o able_a to_o compact_v such_o sanctify_a affection_n unto_o such_o use_n upon_o any_o occasion_n much_o less_o able_a to_o bring_v they_o forth_o upon_o any_o occasion_n they_o be_v so_o different_a in_o themselves_o to_o name_v some_o of_o they_o in_o particular_a first_o if_o you_o look_v at_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n as_o it_o work_v in_o the_o heart_n once_o joy_n and_o grief_n in_o the_o soul_n sanctify_v at_o once_o and_o exercise_n itself_o in_o the_o conversion_n of_o a_o sinner_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o when_o the_o soul_n discern_v any_o life_n of_o grace_n in_o its_o heart_n that_o sin_n be_v now_o pardon_v and_o god_n be_v please_v to_o frame_v it_o anew_o and_o to_o give_v it_o a_o new_a life_n at_o that_o time_n the_o heart_n be_v take_v up_o with_o these_o two_o contrary_a effect_n it_o be_v both_o enlarge_v with_o no_o small_a measure_n of_o joy_n that_o ever_o god_n shall_v redeem_v he_o from_o such_o a_o desperate_a condition_n as_o his_o soul_n lie_v in_o and_o yet_o withal_o full_a of_o grief_n of_o heart_n that_o ever_o he_o shall_v have_v so_o much_o displease_v that_o god_n that_o have_v do_v so_o much_o for_o he_o and_o so_o plain_a as_o that_o you_o shall_v evident_o discern_v the_o voice_n of_o your_o own_o joy_n from_o the_o voice_n of_o your_o own_o grief_n i_o know_v not_o better_a how_o to_o instance_n in_o it_o then_o to_o fetch_v a_o resemblance_n from_o the_o return_n of_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n from_o captivity_n to_o jerusalem_n read_v psal_n 126.2_o 3_o 4._o when_o god_n turn_v the_o captivity_n of_o his_o people_n this_o be_v their_o affection_n then_o be_v their_o mouth_n fill_v with_o laughter_n and_o their_o tongue_n with_o sing_v etc._n etc._n now_o the_o same_o people_n that_o so_o rejoice_v to_o see_v themselves_o redeem_v by_o the_o arm_n of_o the_o lord_n when_o they_o do_v rejoice_v to_o see_v themselves_o set_v at_o liberty_n from_o the_o captivity_n they_o do_v at_o the_o same_o time_n as_o sad_o grieve_v and_o weep_v to_o consider_v the_o unkindness_n they_o have_v put_v upon_o god_n and_o their_o unworthiness_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n from_o he_o as_o you_o may_v read_v jer._n 50._o 4_o 5._o speak_v of_o the_o same_o people_n and_o of_o the_o same_o time_n their_o return_n from_o the_o captivity_n and_o he_o tell_v you_o they_o shall_v come_v go_v and_o weep_v shall_v they_o go_v and_o seek_v the_o lord_n god_n and_o ask_v the_o way_n to_o zion_n with_o their_o face_n thitherward_o if_o the_o psalmist_n speak_v of_o it_o he_o say_v they_o be_v out_o of_o and_o beyond_o themselves_o for_o joy_n as_o in_o a_o comfortable_a dream_n the_o news_n seem_v to_o be_v too_o good_a to_o be_v true_a and_o they_o rejoice_v with_o exceed_v great_a joy_n and_o if_o the_o prophet_n jeremy_n speak_v of_o the_o very_a same_o people_n and_o the_o same_o time_n and_o the_o very_a same_o action_n he_o tell_v you_o they_o go_v to_o jerusalem_n weep_v they_o go_v to_o seek_v the_o lord_n and_o ask_v the_o way_n to_o zion_n they_o rejoice_v at_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o mercy_n and_o weep_v in_o sense_n of_o their_o unworthiness_n of_o it_o and_o true_o this_o kind_n of_o combination_n shall_v you_o find_v stir_v in_o every_o soul_n that_o be_v convert_v to_o god_n when_o the_o pardon_n of_o its_o sin_n be_v seal_v to_o its_o heart_n it_o breed_v a_o certain_a kind_n of_o inward_a joy_n and_o comfort_n in_o the_o lord_n that_o have_v thus_o gracious_o pardon_v their_o iniquity_n and_o yet_o more_o abundant_o mourn_v for_o the_o evil_n it_o have_v so_o displease_v god_n with_o nor_o be_v there_o any_o mourning_n so_o deep_o wound_v the_o soul_n as_o that_o which_o arise_v from_o the_o sight_n of_o christ_n crucify_v than_o the_o soul_n mourn_v full_a bitter_o zach._n 12.10_o he_o will_v mourn_v exceed_o to_o think_v that_o he_o shall_v deal_v so_o unworthy_o against_o that_o god_n that_o have_v all_o this_o while_n have_v such_o wonderful_a thought_n of_o peace_n towards_o he_o this_o be_v the_o first_o combination_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v find_v in_o the_o soul_n after_o sin_n be_v pardon_v and_o the_o heart_n restore_v to_o a_o new_a life_n for_o we_o speak_v before_o of_o prize_v christ_n in_o our_o judgement_n by_o certain_a preparative_n grace_n but_o now_o we_o speak_v of_o that_o kind_n of_o life_n of_o sanctification_n which_o put_v forth_o itself_o after_o some_o sense_n of_o our_o justification_n this_o life_n of_o the_o mixture_n of_o joy_n and_o mourning_n bear_v witness_n to_o our_o life_n of_o sanctification_n second_o in_o the_o worship_v of_o god_n in_o those_o duty_n of_o the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n fear_n 2._o joy_n and_o fear_n you_o shall_v find_v another_o combination_n of_o mix_a affection_n the_o like_a of_o which_o be_v not_o and_o can_v be_v find_v in_o nature_n and_o that_o be_v joy_n and_o fear_n according_a to_o psal_n 2.11_o serve_v the_o lord_n with_o fear_n and_o rejoice_v with_o tremble_a thus_o you_o see_v what_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n after_o that_o god_n have_v begin_v to_o root_v the_o life_n of_o of_o god_n then_o have_v thy_o heart_n most_o melt_v before_o the_o lord_n thy_o god_n and_o thou_o have_v be_v ashamed_a and_o confound_v within_o thyself_o and_o never_o open_v thy_o mouth_n a_o joy_n as_o will_v not_o vanish_v away_o like_a lightning_n in_o the_o air_n a_o flash_n of_o joy_n it_o will_v sink_v down_o into_o the_o heart_n and_o leave_v so_o much_o the_o more_o deep_a impression_n mourning_n by_o how_o much_o the_o more_o it_o have_v have_v joy_n i_o grant_v that_o sometime_o the_o joy_n of_o god_n own_o servant_n may_v soon_o vanish_v away_o but_o it_o be_v never_o know_v that_o the_o joy_n of_o a_o live_a christian_n do_v so_o soon_o vanish_v and_o depart_v away_o but_o that_o when_o it_o do_v most_o abound_v in_o the_o heart_n it_o do_v cause_n inward_a mourning_n and_o if_o not_o weep_v yet_o a_o affection_n of_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n of_o soul_n that_o ever_o we_o have_v so_o displease_v god_n the_o more_o god_n have_v be_v merciful_a to_o we_o the_o more_o be_v we_o shame_v of_o ourselves_o &_o inward_o grieve_v for_o our_o shameless_a carriage_n if_o therefore_o you_o only_o find_v joy_n in_o hear_v that_o may_v deceive_v you_o it_o be_v not_o the_o shortness_n of_o the_o continuance_n that_o argue_v the_o unsoundnesse_n of_o the_o joy_n but_o the_o want_n of_o this_o combination_n that_o will_v argue_v the_o falsehood_n of_o it_o if_o god_n yoke_n not_o spiritual_a joy_n with_o spiritual_a mourning_n then_o suspect_v your_o joy_n for_o it_o do_v not_o accompany_v salvation_n unto_o life_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n this_o you_o shall_v find_v to_o be_v true_a the_o joy_n of_o live_a soul_n in_o christ_n though_o that_o oftentimes_o be_v soon_o go_v yet_o it_o leave_v this_o spirit_n of_o mourning_n which_o keep_v possession_n for_o it_o and_o that_o many_o time_n for_o a_o long_a time_n and_o you_o may_v read_v your_o comfort_n in_o the_o sorrow_n that_o it_o have_v leave_v behind_o for_o there_o be_v as_o much_o cause_n of_o comfort_n in_o this_o sorrow_n as_o in_o the_o joy_n when_o you_o have_v it_o when_o you_o see_v your_o soul_n can_v mourn_v unfeigned_o for_o that_o you_o see_v so_o good_a a_o god_n to_o such_o a_o wretch_n this_o very_a comfortable_a sorrow_n that_o be_v leave_v in_o thy_o heart_n be_v a_o undoubted_a pledge_n that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o vanish_v joy_n the_o power_n and_o work_v of_o it_o last_v long_o and_o will_v abide_v in_o the_o soul_n for_o ever_o a_o man_n will_v in_o such_o a_o case_n mourn_v for_o his_o sin_n while_o he_o live_v if_o you_o have_v therefore_o find_v your_o joy_n mix_v with_o sorrow_n it_o be_v right_a else_o it_o be_v but_o a_o fade_a hypocritical_a and_o false_a joy_n again_o further_o how_o do_v you_o find_v your_o heart_n affect_v with_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n do_v you_o come_v to_o duty_n marvellous_a unwilling_o that_o if_o you_o can_v avoid_v it_o you_o will_v not_o keep_v such_o duty_n in_o your_o house_n and_o if_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v you_o put_v it_o upon_o any_o body_n rather_o than_o upon_o yourself_o you_o may_v be_v a_o live_a christian_n but_o your_o heart_n be_v in_o a_o dead_a frame_n at_o that_o time_n and_o if_o it_o be_v always_o so_o with_o you_o you_o never_o do_v true_o live_v but_o if_o you_o find_v your_o spirit_n at_o least_o your_o heart_n come_v on_o most_o willing_o to_o christian_a duty_n that_o you_o perform_v they_o like_o freewill_n offering_n not_o free_a so_o as_o without_o warrant_n from_o god_n word_n but_o free_a in_o respect_n of_o grace_n do_v but_o observe_v thus_o much_o it_o may_v be_v you_o may_v come_v off_o free_o before_o god_n because_o he_o have_v give_v you_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o you_o can_v quit_v yourselves_o well_o and_o such_o as_o in_o which_o you_o live_v they_o come_v from_o a_o live_a heart_n and_o the_o sacrifice_n be_v lively_a and_o acceptable_a and_o argue_v you_o have_v life_n and_o therein_o you_o have_v christ_n the_o god_n of_o peace_n but_o if_o a_o man_n have_v only_o fear_v in_o a_o duty_n but_o no_o joy_n or_o joy_n but_o no_o fear_n his_o heart_n be_v not_o in_o a_o good_a frame_n we_o must_v bring_v a_o better_a frame_n of_o heart_n before_o god_n then_o so_o before_o we_o can_v say_v that_o we_o have_v the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n again_o for_o another_o sign_n how_o do_v joy_n in_o they_o have_v you_o many_o affliction_n in_o inward_a or_o in_o outward_a man_n and_o no_o comfort_n in_o they_o it_o be_v a_o uncomfortable_a sign_n to_o you_o the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n be_v not_o so_o shed_v abroad_o in_o your_o heart_n that_o you_o may_v gather_v you_o have_v life_n but_o if_o you_o find_v that_o in_o the_o multitude_n of_o your_o thought_n within_o you_o god_n comfort_n delight_v your_o soul_n psal_n 94.19_o 20._o in_o the_o midst_n of_o sorrow_n you_o find_v some_o comfort_n if_o your_o life_n in_o christ_n make_v your_o sad_a time_n joyful_a and_o comfortable_a to_o you_o and_o so_o in_o outward_a affliction_n though_o affliction_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v grievous_a yet_o wait_v a_o while_n and_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o more_o able_a to_o move_v itself_o in_o its_o place_n than_o it_o be_v say_v to_o live_v such_o or_o such_o a_o life_n if_o you_o see_v a_o creature_n stir_n and_o move_v not_o further_o then_o by_o the_o help_n of_o another_o than_o you_o say_v it_o live_v not_o but_o if_o it_o stir_v of_o itself_o than_o you_o say_v it_o live_v nor_o be_v it_o strait_a way_n alive_a if_o it_o move_v unless_o it_o be_v in_o its_o place_n for_o you_o see_v earthly_a thing_n will_v move_v downward_o if_o they_o be_v upward_o and_o light_a thing_n will_v move_v upward_o but_o these_o be_v out_o of_o their_o place_n they_o be_v rather_o move_v then_o themselves_o do_v move_v when_o they_o be_v out_o of_o their_o place_n and_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o from_o a_o power_n of_o move_v but_o rather_o a_o affection_n to_o rest_n than_o a_o power_n to_o move_v themselves_o and_o further_o suppose_v they_o shall_v move_v themselves_o meet_v it_o be_v they_o shall_v move_v themselves_o to_o such_o action_n as_o argue_v as_o argue_v this_o and_o that_o life_n which_o they_o express_v suppose_v a_o tree_n move_v itself_o and_o nourish_v itself_o and_o grow_v and_o that_o in_o its_o place_n yet_o it_o do_v not_o move_v itself_o to_o see_v nor_o hear_v and_o beast_n that_o do_v move_v themselves_o to_o see_v and_o hear_v yet_o they_o can_v move_v themselves_o to_o act_n of_o reason_n and_o man_n that_o can_v move_v to_o act_n of_o reason_n yet_o can_v move_v themselves_o to_o any_o spiritual_a duty_n and_o work_n of_o grace_n so_o that_o that_o motion_n which_o argue_v the_o life_n
of_o the_o soul_n be_v a_o power_n to_o move_v itself_o and_o in_o its_o place_n unto_o spiritual_a duty_n that_o be_v the_o true_a nature_n of_o the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n do_v you_o therefore_o see_v a_o creature_n no_o further_o move_v itself_o then_o according_a to_o its_o lightness_n you_o shall_v sometime_o have_v man_n to_o move_v themselves_o out_o of_o their_o levity_n come_v to_o a_o eminent_a duty_n in_o the_o pride_n of_o their_o nature_n note_n note_n and_o will_v lift_v themselves_o up_o to_o some_o duty_n but_o this_o be_v not_o out_o of_o a_o inward_a principle_n but_o out_o of_o the_o lightness_n of_o their_o spirit_n desire_v to_o be_v above_o spirit_n lightness_n of_o spirit_n will_v move_v they_o to_o this_o and_o that_o duty_n and_o rather_o move_v from_o hence_o then_o from_o any_o inward_a principle_n of_o grace_n and_o so_o sometime_o creature_n out_o of_o their_o heaviness_n and_o baseness_n of_o mind_n will_v be_v do_v spiritual_a duty_n but_o as_o the_o one_o do_v they_o to_o be_v see_v of_o man_n and_o perform_v the_o mere_a letter_n of_o the_o duty_n and_o in_o the_o pride_n of_o his_o heart_n not_o out_o of_o any_o inward_a affection_n to_o such_o duty_n so_o there_o be_v other_o that_o for_o profit_n sake_n will_v move_v themselves_o base_o unto_o spiritual_a duty_n as_o christ_n say_v of_o his_o hearer_n they_o follow_v he_o for_o loaf_n joh._n 6.26_o so_o that_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o move_v to_o such_o or_o such_o a_o business_n or_o to_o be_v stir_v about_o such_o duty_n out_o of_o a_o inward_a affection_n to_o the_o duty_n and_o inclination_n of_o heart_n and_o love_n of_o such_o a_o work_n and_o another_o thing_n to_o be_v carry_v to_o such_o work_n out_o of_o a_o inward_a levity_n of_o nature_n or_o because_o by_o such_o duty_n a_o man_n may_v excel_v other_o and_o go_v beyond_o his_o neighbour_n and_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o be_v act_v and_o stir_v in_o spiritual_a duty_n out_o of_o a_o inward_a love_n to_o they_o and_o another_o to_o perform_v they_o out_o of_o a_o base_a respect_n to_o the_o profit_n and_o pleasure_n that_o may_v be_v find_v in_o they_o in_o outward_a peace_n and_o rest_n as_o sometime_o the_o case_n so_o stand_v that_o if_o a_o man_n do_v betake_v himself_o to_o spiritual_a duty_n he_o shall_v perhaps_o find_v the_o more_o favour_n in_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n and_o to_o please_v authority_n if_o it_o take_v the_o better_a side_n and_o so_o from_o a_o heavy_a baseness_n of_o their_o heart_n to_o such_o regard_n they_o will_v have_v respect_n unto_o spiritual_a duty_n but_o these_o do_v not_o move_v but_o as_o heavy_a thing_n move_v downward_z and_o light_a thing_n upward_o a_o stone_n will_v move_v downward_o and_o fire_n upward_o absolom_n have_v a_o marvellous_a strong_a affection_n to_o be_v do_v 2_o sam._n 15.4_o he_o tell_v they_o every_o man_n shall_v have_v justice_n if_o he_o be_v but_o make_v king_n in_o the_o grow_v as_o bad_a as_o their_o master_n and_o it_o may_v be_v worse_o but_o this_o be_v we_o apt_a to_o do_v when_o we_o be_v out_o of_o our_o place_n apt_a to_o be_v move_v but_o it_o be_v not_o true_a life_n because_o only_o that_o which_o move_v in_o its_o place_n that_o only_a life_n and_o yet_o further_o a_o thing_n may_v move_v in_o its_o place_n and_o yet_o move_v from_o some_o kind_n of_o outward_a respect_n as_o a_o watch_n or_o a_o clock_n it_o move_v but_o it_o be_v from_o the_o weight_n that_o lie_v and_o hang_v upon_o it_o and_o so_o it_o be_v rather_o a_o violent_a motion_n than_o a_o natural_a so_o be_v it_o many_o time_n with_o man_n the_o weight_n of_o the_o law_n or_o the_o weight_n of_o the_o authority_n of_o governor_n do_v so_o carry_v they_o a_o end_n in_o those_o way_n they_o walk_v in_o that_o they_o go_v through_o with_o it_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v but_o from_o a_o outward_a principle_n from_o some_o outward_a weight_n that_o hang_v upon_o they_o but_o yet_o suppose_v man_n shall_v be_v do_v in_o their_o place_n as_o jehu_n be_v he_o be_v mighty_a in_o his_o place_n and_o be_v very_o much_o against_o baal_n and_o destroy_v the_o house_n of_o spiritual_a require_v not_o only_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v for_o the_o better_a a_o good_a work_n but_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v wrought_v first_o in_o sense_n of_o our_o own_o insufficiency_n affection_n to_o duty_n but_o out_o of_o their_o place_n and_o calling_n or_o in_o their_o call_n they_o do_v such_o duty_n but_o rather_o out_o of_o their_o own_o strength_n then_o from_o the_o strength_n of_o christ_n and_o not_o out_o of_o a_o conscionable_a respect_n to_o all_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n or_o if_o it_o be_v from_o outward_a principle_n and_o to_o wrong_v end_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n not_o seek_v after_o nor_o tend_v to_o the_o build_n up_o themselves_o nor_o other_o in_o grace_n all_o these_o be_v such_o as_o man_n may_v be_v carry_v to_o do_v from_o outward_a ourselves_o rather_o then_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o church_n good_a it_o be_v true_a no_o man_n that_o have_v common_a grace_n man_n that_o have_v gift_n of_o preach_v and_o gift_n of_o pray_v may_v love_v to_o act_v and_o move_v they_o or_o any_o other_o zealous_a gift_n but_o yet_o notwithstanding_o you_o shall_v find_v this_o to_o be_v true_a that_o till_o the_o heart_n be_v be_v too_o busy_a in_o our_o own_o strength_n and_o too_o mighty_a in_o the_o grace_n we_o have_v receive_v and_o rather_o aim_v at_o ourselves_o then_o at_o he_o and_o then_o no_o marvel_n if_o god_n leave_v we_o to_o a_o world_n of_o deadness_n but_o when_o god_n have_v thus_o by_o this_o mean_n let_v we_o see_v that_o all_o our_o life_n be_v in_o he_o and_o that_o we_o be_v dead_a heart_a further_a than_o we_o have_v life_n from_o he_o than_o god_n be_v wont_v not_o to_o fail_v but_o to_o help_v we_o thus_o far_o at_o the_o least_o to_o look_v with_o a_o wist_v and_o a_o sad_a eye_n upon_o the_o forlornnes_n of_o our_o estate_n and_o to_o cry_v out_o of_o ourselves_o o_o what_o dead_a heart_a creature_n and_o dull_a spirit_a thing_n be_v we_o and_o bemoan_v ourselves_o as_o will_v not_o suffer_v their_o brethren_n to_o rest_v in_o sin_n much_o less_o
themselves_o and_o therefore_o this_o be_v the_o warmth_n of_o this_o knowledge_n it_o both_o burn_v up_o their_o own_o lust_n like_o chaff_n and_o all_o the_o sinful_a distemper_n that_o we_o see_v in_o the_o life_n and_o way_n of_o our_o brethren_n this_o be_v one_o part_n of_o the_o heat_n of_o a_o christian_a soul_n that_o his_o knowledge_n be_v a_o warm_a knowledge_n look_v what_o he_o know_v he_o think_v he_o must_v do_v whereas_o another_o man_n know_v many_o thing_n but_o he_o do_v they_o not_o but_o a_o christian_a if_o he_o know_v it_o to_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n he_o must_v do_v it_o and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o god_n servant_n be_v many_o time_n count_v very_o busy_a as_o indeed_o the_o fire_n be_v ever_o very_o busy_o work_v no_o creature_n in_o the_o house_n so_o busy_a as_o the_o fire_n be_v and_o so_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n people_n make_v they_o to_o be_v so_o busy_a in_o do_v and_o therein_o they_o express_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n second_o breath_n 2._o where_o there_o be_v life_n there_o be_v breath_n where_o ever_o be_v true_a life_n there_o be_v this_o warmth_n a_o warmth_n in_o their_o breath_n both_o in_o the_o natural_a and_o spiritual_a body_n in_o this_o natural_a body_n while_o we_o live_v it_o be_v warm_a and_o so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v we_o breathe_v more_o or_o less_o it_o be_v but_o for_o a_o little_a time_n if_o at_o all_o breath_n be_v intercept_v it_o may_v be_v in_o some_o sudden_a fit_n but_o ordinary_o if_o it_o tarry_v long_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o death_n but_o if_o there_o be_v life_n there_o be_v breathe_v and_o that_o breathe_n be_v warm_a some_o warm_a breath_n come_v from_o he_o that_o be_v alive_a and_o true_o so_o shall_v you_o find_v it_o in_o your_o spiritual_a life_n if_o there_o be_v any_o true_a life_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a soul_n there_o be_v always_o some_o kind_n of_o warm_a breathe_n there_o be_v some_o measure_n of_o warmth_n in_o his_o prayer_n the_o prayer_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n it_o always_o but_o lip-labour_n and_o according_o lust_n labour_n the_o word_n vanish_v away_o in_o the_o air_n but_o there_o be_v ever_o more_o or_o less_o some_o kind_n of_o warmth-in_a the_o prayer_n of_o god_n servant_n according_a to_o what_o the_o apostle_n speak_v rom._n 8.26_o even_o then_o when_o we_o know_v not_o what_o to_o pray_v for_o nor_o how_o to_o pray_v as_o we_o ought_v then_o the_o spirit_n help_v our_o infirmity_n that_o when_o we_o sometime_o can_v bring_v out_o a_o word_n to_o god_n the_o heart_n be_v full_a sometime_o of_o anguish_n and_o discouragement_n in_o respect_n of_o inward_a desertion_n or_o temptation_n and_o outward_a affliction_n but_o yet_o though_o in_o such_o a_o case_n we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o tell_v what_o to_o pray_v for_o yet_o there_o be_v ever_o in_o a_o christian_a soul_n something_o that_o make_v he_o seek_v to_o god_n and_o the_o very_a sigh_n of_o such_o a_o soul_n come_v from_o ome_z warm_v of_o spirit_n within_o he_o the_o scald_a sigh_n and_o deep_a groan_n of_o the_o soul_n they_o come_v from_o a_o spirit_n of_o life_n and_o warmth_n in_o christ_n jesus_n therefore_o though_o it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v many_o cold_a prayer_n that_o god_n servant_n do_v put_v up_o yet_o there_o be_v some_o kind_n of_o sigh_n and_o groan_n that_o spring_v from_o they_o which_o argue_v some_o heat_n and_o life_n in_o they_o and_o so_o be_v it_o as_o they_o breathe_v thus_o to_o god-ward_o so_o do_v they_o breathe_v one_o to_o another_o so_o that_o if_o they_o speak_v of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n they_o speak_v not_o of_o god_n and_o his_o word_n light_o and_o wanton_o or_o loose_o as_o those_o that_o have_v no_o affection_n to_o they_o but_o if_o they_o speak_v of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n of_o his_o threaten_n promise_n or_o of_o any_o of_o his_o commandment_n or_o any_o of_o the_o work_n of_o his_o providence_n they_o speak_v not_o of_o they_o cold_o as_o those_o that_o take_v no_o pleasure_n in_o they_o but_o if_o they_o speak_v of_o any_o of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n they_o speak_v with_o some_o reverence_n and_o desire_v after_o they_o and_o settle_v a_o confirmation_n in_o they_o they_o have_v love_n to_o the_o word_n and_o rejoice_v in_o it_o and_o stand_v in_o awe_n and_o in_o fear_n of_o it_o and_o they_o exercise_v their_o heart_n and_o wit_n about_o it_o when_o at_o any_o time_n they_o speak_v of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n so_o that_o there_o be_v some_o kind_n of_o warmth_n in_o the_o expression_n of_o a_o chirstian_a in_o some_o savoury_a affection_n whereby_o he_o esteem_v of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n above_o what_o be_v find_v in_o a_o hypocrite_n three_o ordinance_n spiritual_a warmth_n dige_v god_n ordinance_n there_o be_v a_o certain_a kind_n of_o warmth_n by_o which_o the_o soul_n do_v not_o only_o affect_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n but_o by_o which_o it_o do_v in_o some_o measure_n digest_v they_o there_o be_v no_o live_a man_n want_v some_o such_o measure_n of_o heat_n as_o make_v he_o able_a to_o digest_v some_o kind_n of_o diet_n though_o not_o always_o strong_a meat_n especial_o if_o he_o be_v in_o any_o measure_n of_o health_n and_o that_o be_v no_o small_a measure_n of_o heat_n psal_n 119.20_o the_o very_a long_a desire_n it_o always_o have_v to_o god_n judgement_n be_v it_o that_o even_o make_v his_o soul_n to_o break_v within_o he_o and_o so_o to_o pant_v after_o god_n word_n and_o his_o presence_n in_o his_o ordinance_n psalm_n 42.1_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o pant_v and_o longing_n and_o eager_a desire_n after_o god_n by_o which_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o christian_a close_n with_o god_n in_o his_o ordinance_n and_o turn_v they_o into_o the_o more_o warm_a other_o 4._o spiritual_a warmth_n heat_v other_o but_o put_v cold_a clog_n and_o piece_n of_o wood_n together_o and_o they_o be_v never_o a_o whit_n the_o warm_a but_o if_o you_o take_v but_o two_o or_o three_o of_o they_o thing_n that_o be_v well_o kindle_v and_o they_o will_v set_v all_o a_o fire_n that_o come_v nigh_o they_o though_o ready_a before_o to_o go_v out_o for_o want_n of_o supply_n if_o you_o lay_v two_o or_o three_o warm_a brand_n together_o they_o will_v kindle_v one_o another_o and_o true_o so_o it_o be_v among_o christian_n take_v you_o a_o christian_n that_o have_v this_o spiritual_a warmth_n in_o he_o though_o almost_o benumb_v for_o want_n of_o good_a company_n and_o good_a conference_n and_o breathe_v forth_o of_o god_n spirit_n and_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n yet_o if_o he_o meet_v with_o two_o or_o three_o like_o himself_o they_o presnt_o begin_v to_o kindle_v one_o another_o and_o the_o breath_n of_o such_o christian_n be_v like_a bellows_o to_o blow_v up_o spark_n savoury_a and_o sweet_a expression_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o edify_v themselves_o by_o their_o mutual_a fellowship_n one_o with_o another_o yea_o and_o sometime_o they_o grow_v so_o warm_a by_o this_o mean_n as_o that_o they_o be_v fit_a to_o admonish_v one_o another_o to_o exhort_v and_o to_o comfort_n and_o if_o need_v require_v to_o rebuke_v one_o another_o as_o occasion_n serve_v 1_o pet._n 4.8_o have_v fervent_a love_n one_o to_o another_o above_o all_o thing_n have_v fervent_a love_n among_o yourselves_o this_o be_v a_o special_a thing_n love_v heart_n so_o cold_a in_o their_o prayer_n and_o appetite_n so_o little_a to_o the_o word_n and_o so_o unprofitable_a under_o it_o how_o shall_v a_o man_n hear_v so_o much_o and_o profit_v so_o little_a if_o a_o man_n aid_n digest_v the_o word_n and_o be_v it_o not_o a_o common_a complaint_n of_o christian_n how_o much_o they_o hear_v and_o how_o little_a they_o profit_n yea_o and_o will_v not_o some_o christian_n say_v he_o profit_v nothing_o at_o all_o no_o not_o any_o thing_n and_o be_v it_o so_o many_o time_n that_o christian_n come_v together_o and_o they_o be_v little_a edification_n one_o to_o another_o very_o little_a profit_n sit_v together_o and_o talk_v of_o matter_n that_o little_o edify_v but_o rather_o corrupt_v the_o spirit_n one_o of_o another_o how_o be_v it_o then_o that_o you_o say_v where_o ever_o there_o be_v life_n there_o be_v heat_n so_o such_o as_o make_v they_o more_o lively_a in_o christian_a duty_n and_o it_o may_v be_v object_v that_o luke_n 24.32_o do_v not_o our_o heart_n burn_v within_o we_o etc._n etc._n a_o sign_n that_o till_o he_o come_v to_o they_o and_o come_v into_o conference_n with_o they_o and_o do_v rub_v they_o up_o they_o be_v very_o cold_a heart_a and_o dull_a spirit_v and_o go_v on_o their_o way_n with_o much_o darkness_n of_o soul_n without_o life_n and_o strength_n of_o soul_n until_o he_o come_v to_o put_v life_n into_o their_o spirit_n answ_n it_o be_v true_a many_o time_n god_n servant_n be_v very_o cold_a and_o benumb_v and_o a_o cold_a spirit_n grow_v upon_o they_o exceed_o so_o as_o that_o they_o scarce_o feel_v any_o life_n breathe_v in_o their_o knowledge_n or_o prayer_n or_o appetite_n to_o the_o word_n or_o love_n to_o their_o brethren_n little_a warmth_n in_o any_o of_o these_o partly_o through_o want_n of_o supply_v the_o life_n of_o god_n grace_n with_o fit_a nourishment_n whereby_o the_o heart_n shall_v grow_v warm_a as_o natural_a fire_n if_o it_o be_v not_o supply_v with_o new_a fuel_n it_o will_v go_v out_o and_o partly_o sometime_o by_o pour_v cold_a water_n upon_o it_o which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v to_o damp_n the_o fire_n and_o we_o do_v power_n cold_a water_n upon_o this_o life_n of_o grace_n when_o we_o admit_v of_o any_o sinful_a lust_n in_o our_o soul_n those_o do_v marvellous_o eat_v out_o all_o that_o life_n and_o heat_n of_o spirit_n that_o sometime_o we_o have_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o sometime_o by_o a_o excessive_a use_n of_o worldly_a thing_n which_o without_o a_o very_a spiritual_a mind_n do_v clog_v the_o soul_n as_o much_o as_o if_o you_o shall_v throw_v cold_a water_n upon_o a_o fire_n it_o will_v damp_n it_o very_o much_o so_o be_v this_o case_n man_n sometime_o walk_v in_o worldly_a business_n with_o worldly_a affection_n and_o sometime_o give_v leave_n to_o distemper_a lust_n and_o sometime_o neglect_v to_o put_v any_o fuel_n to_o the_o fire_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o find_v the_o heart_n well_o warm_v with_o some_o good_a sermon_n or_o a_o good_a prayer_n or_o conference_n or_o the_o like_a they_o think_v this_o fire_n will_v never_o go_v out_o and_o so_o they_o begin_v to_o neglect_v it_o and_o so_o either_o the_o fire_n go_v quit_v out_o or_o else_o be_v so_o damp_a as_o that_o you_o can_v discern_v no_o life_n no_o savour_n or_o power_n of_o religion_n there_o and_o therefore_o such_o a_o thing_n may_v befall_v god_n servant_n they_o may_v grow_v dull_a heart_a one_o way_n or_o other_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v but_o yet_o thus_o much_o let_v i_o say_v though_o this_o new_a life_n into_o they_o and_o do_v blow_v up_o the_o spirit_n and_o heat_n of_o that_o decay_a life_n which_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o grief_n and_o care_n their_o heart_n be_v heat_v yet_o so_o that_o take_v you_o a_o christian_a man_n when_o he_o be_v even_o in_o the_o most_o disorder_v framelook_v how_o much_o he_o have_v lose_v of_o his_o spiritual_a heat_n so_o much_o of_o his_o true_a life_n if_o he_o have_v leave_v to_o be_v warm_a so_o much_o life_n have_v he_o lose_v and_o if_o his_o warmth_n be_v smother_v his_o life_n be_v smother_v for_o the_o present_a and_o even_o as_o life_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o the_o very_a sad_a face_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n that_o they_o fall_v into_o and_o sometime_o in_o the_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o in_o such_o a_o case_n it_o sometime_o will_v break_v forth_o into_o so_o a_o christian_a soul_n when_o his_o heat_n be_v most_o damp_a there_o be_v a_o sad_a face_n in_o his_o spirit_n that_o he_o discern_v all_o be_v not_o well_o with_o he_o his_o spirit_n be_v benumb_v &_o his_o heart_n in_o his_o own_o thought_n be_v freeze_v within_o he_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o and_o a_o matter_n of_o sadness_n to_o his_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v express_v himself_o sometime_o with_o many_o sad_a and_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n about_o his_o forlorn_a and_o lose_v estate_n and_o yet_o sometime_o you_o shall_v have_v his_o heart_n even_o then_o when_o his_o heart_n be_v most_o cold_a which_o be_v worse_o than_o the_o former_a for_o you_o shall_v come_v not_o only_o to_o have_v nothing_o leave_v but_o sadness_n of_o heart_n to_o behold_v it_o but_o he_o may_v loose_v his_o sadness_n too_o and_o even_o
many_o time_n convey_v such_o a_o spirit_n of_o grace_n into_o we_o as_o give_v we_o power_n to_o receive_v christ_n what_o power_n have_v the_o cripple_n to_o stand_v much_o less_o to_o walk_v act._n
