love_n of_o god_n a_o love_n of_o virtue_n and_o a_o hatred_n of_o vice_n where_o ever_o any_o of_o these_o three_o have_v place_n there_o the_o soul_n live_v where_o thou_o find_v thy_o conscience_n refresh_v and_o thy_o soul_n recreate_v from_o the_o great_a terror_n &_o manifold_a pang_n of_o sin_n no_o question_n the_o soul_n live_v for_o this_o be_v the_o effect_n of_o the_o right_a spirit_n affection_n for_o we_o come_v not_o to_o christ_n by_o any_o outward_a motion_n of_o our_o body_n but_o by_o a_o inward_a motion_n &_o apprehension_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o god_n find_v we_o all_o if_o i_o speak_v to_o you_o of_o thing_n in_o this_o language_n which_o you_o understand_v be_v it_o of_o thing_n past_a though_o never_o so_o long_o since_o of_o thing_n to_o come_v though_o never_o so_o far_o off_o of_o thing_n absent_a though_o never_o so_o far_o distant_a yet_o so_o soon_o as_o i_o speak_v the_o word_n whether_o it_o be_v of_o thing_n past_a or_o to_o come_v the_o thing_n itself_o will_v come_v into_o your_o mind_n the_o word_n be_v hear_v no_o soon_o by_o your_o ear_n but_o the_o thing_n signify_v by_o the_o same_o word_n come_v into_o your_o mind_n what_o make_v the_o thing_n signify_v though_o absent_a to_o come_v into_o my_o mind_n this_o can_v not_o be_v except_o there_o be_v a_o conjunction_n between_o the_o word_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v by_o the_o word_n as_o for_o example_n if_o i_o speak_v of_o the_o king_n who_o be_v now_o a_o great_a way_n distant_a from_o we_o i_o pray_v god_n bless_v he_o you_o will_v no_o soon_o hear_v the_o word_n but_o the_o king_n who_o be_v the_o thing_n signify_v by_o the_o word_n will_v come_v into_o your_o mind_n if_o i_o speak_v of_o thing_n past_a though_o they_o be_v already_o expire_v yet_o the_o thing_n signify_v will_v present_o come_v into_o your_o mind_n so_o there_o be_v a_o conjunction_n you_o see_v between_o the_o word_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v by_o the_o word_n mark_v this_o conjunction_n and_o you_o shall_v get_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o conjunction_n and_o couple_v of_o the_o sign_n which_o be_v the_o thing_n signify_v in_o the_o sacrament_n for_o observe_v what_o sort_n of_o conjunction_n be_v between_o the_o word_n and_o the_o thing_n signify_v by_o the_o word_n the_o same_o sort_n of_o conjunction_n be_v between_o the_o sacrament_n which_o be_v see_v to_o your_o hand_n take_v the_o one_o so_o your_o heart_n take_v the_o other_o as_o your_o tooth_n eat_v the_o one_o so_o the_o tooth_n of_o your_o soul_n which_o be_v faith_n eat_v the_o other_o that_o be_v apply_v christ_n unto_o your_o soul_n so_o you_o see_v there_o be_v a_o conjunction_n here_o secret_a and_o mystical_a and_o therefore_o christ_n can_v be_v conjoin_v but_o by_o a_o secret_a and_o mystical_a conjunction_n the_o conjunction_n between_o christ_n and_o we_o be_v a_o secret_a and_o mystical_a conjunction_n which_o the_o apostle_n in_o the_o five_o of_o the_o ephes._n call_v body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n to_o we_o and_o on_o our_o part_n there_o must_v be_v a_o mean_n or_o else_o though_o he_o offer_v we_o will_v not_o receive_v therefore_o of_o necessity_n there_o as_o the_o faithful_a again_o see_v the_o scripture_n and_o look_v to_o that_o perfection_n that_o be_v require_v therein_o look_v to_o the_o progress_n and_o increase_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v require_v therein_o and_o see_v on_o the_o other_o side_n their_o great_a want_n how_o far_o we_o be_v from_o this_o progress_n how_o be_v it_o possible_a but_o the_o soul_n must_v doubt_v again_o lay_v aside_o this_o trial_n and_o look_v down_o upon_o our_o behaviour_n to_o these_o sin_n that_o be_v in_o our_o flesh_n and_o to_o the_o lust_n whereunto_o our_o heart_n be_v incline_v and_o to_o the_o angry_a face_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n how_o be_v it_o possible_a but_o we_o must_v doubt_v therefore_o i_o conclude_v there_o be_v never_o a_o servant_n of_o god_n but_o in_o their_o soul_n they_o have_v this_o doubt_v look_v on_o themselves_o they_o doubt_v look_v on_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n they_o believe_v that_o notable_a vessel_n acknowledge_v himself_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o this_o doubt_v 1._o cor._n 4.8_o where_o he_o say_v we_o be_v always_o in_o affliction_n but_o not_o in_o distress_n we_o doubt_v but_o we_o despair_v not_o that_o good_a vessel_n acknowledge_v doubt_v only_o he_o deny_v despair_n he_o grant_v that_o this_o doubt_v have_v place_n in_o the_o soul_n with_o faith_n but_o not_o despair_v see_v despair_n cut_v the_o pillar_n of_o our_o hope_n and_o consequent_o of_o our_o faith_n therefore_o it_o can_v remain_v in_o the_o soul_n with_o faith_n under_o doubt_v he_o comprehend_v all_o other_o error_n stammering_n and_o wrastling_n whereby_o the_o soul_n be_v trouble_v wrestle_v between_o hope_n &_o despair_n but_o all_o these_o imperfection_n be_v free_o pardon_v in_o the_o righteous_a merit_n of_o christ_n or_o else_o there_o be_v no_o place_n of_o salvation_n for_o us._n i_o wish_v those_o who_o know_v this_o to_o comfort_v themselves_o with_o it_o &_o they_o that_o have_v not_o experience_n of_o this_o to_o remember_v the_o lesson_n that_o they_o may_v make_v use_n thereof_o if_o at_o any_o time_n it_o shall_v please_v the_o lord_n to_o assault_v they_o with_o these_o terrible_a visitation_n the_o by_o his_o own_o spirit_n and_o be_v the_o work_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n and_o i_o pray_v you_o know_v he_o not_o the_o meaning_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n therefore_o when_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o tongue_n be_v take_v from_o you_o that_o you_o may_v not_o praise_v he_o with_o your_o tongue_n then_o let_v every_o member_n of_o the_o body_n and_o soul_n concur_v to_o praise_v he_o as_o long_o as_o there_o be_v any_o of_o they_o free_a there_o be_v none_o exempt_v from_o these_o trouble_n there_o be_v none_o can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n except_o first_o he_o i_o say_v a_o patheticke_a and_o cut_a kind_n of_o speech_n signify_v that_o his_o heart_n be_v so_o stuff_v and_o swell_v his_o tongue_n will_v not_o serve_v he_o to_o express_v the_o matter_n what_o shall_v i_o say_v as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v where_o shall_v i_o borrow_v any_o word_n to_o express_v the_o matter_n where_o shall_v i_o borrow_v praise_n that_o i_o may_v answer_v so_o great_a goodness_n and_o kindness_n as_o i_o have_v find_v in_o my_o particular_a in_o this_o god_n of_o i_o i_o turn_v not_o so_o soon_o unto_o he_o and_o the_o tear_n distil_v not_o so_o soon_o from_o my_o eye_n but_o he_o accept_v my_o person_n he_o grant_v my_o health_n and_o promise_v i_o his_o favourable_a and_o merciful_a protection_n all_o the_o rest_n of_o my_o day_n how_o be_o i_o able_a to_o meet_v these_o benefit_n in_o word_n much_o less_o in_o deed_n yea_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o the_o tongue_n to_o utter_v that_o which_o the_o heart_n think_v but_o suppose_v i_o can_v as_o i_o will_v i_o shall_v praise_v thou_o as_o i_o may_v and_o as_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o the_o grace_n a_o notable_a kind_n of_o thanksgiving_n learn_v of_o his_o predecessor_n david_n who_o when_o he_o be_v in_o like_a case_n thanksgiving_n use_v the_o like_a form_n of_o praise_n say_v what_o shall_v i_o render_v to_o god_n for_o all_o his_o benefit_n a_o form_n of_o praise_n wherein_o this_o good_a king_n grant_v three_o thing_n first_o he_o grant_v this_o ingenious_o that_o the_o benefit_n which_o he_o receive_v be_v free_a free_o bestow_v on_o he_o without_o any_o procurement_n of_o he_o yea_o the_o spirit_n because_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n like_v of_o this_o king_n heart_n suppose_v his_o word_n will_v not_o serve_v he_o since_o those_o corporal_a sacrifice_n in_o the_o old_a law_n cease_v there_o be_v not_o a_o spiritual_a sacrifice_n more_o acceptable_a to_o god_n then_o be_v the_o sacrifice_n of_o

death_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o life_n of_o the_o body_n may_v be_v conjoin_v well_o with_o the_o death_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o we_o may_v live_v in_o the_o body_n and_o be_v dead_a in_o the_o
