in_o the_o inward_a man_n even_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o air_n at_o midnight_n darkness_n be_v of_o god_n create_v and_o therefore_o whenever_o the_o lord_n bring_v we_o into_o a_o state_n of_o darkness_n affliction_n and_o temptation_n either_o outward_a or_o inward_a it_o be_v time_n then_o to_o worship_v the_o lord_n second_o 2._o we_o shall_v then_o worship_v the_o lord_n in_o time_n of_o affliction_n and_o temptation_n for_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n only_o that_o can_v enable_v a_o man_n to_o bear_v temptation_n or_o affliction_n there_o be_v need_n i_o say_v that_o we_o shall_v apply_v ourselves_o to_o the_o lord_n for_o he_o only_o can_v enable_v a_o poor_a creature_n to_o grapple_v with_o his_o affliction_n and_o temptation_n if_o the_o lord_n help_v not_o the_o proud_a helper_n in_o the_o world_n shall_v stoop_v and_o not_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v up_o a_o man_n under_o the_o least_o affliction_n especial_o when_o the_o affliction_n be_v accompany_v with_o temptation_n and_o be_v wound_v a_o wound_a spirit_n who_o can_v bear_v it_o be_v only_o everlasting_a arm_n that_o can_v support_v under_o such_o a_o condition_n sure_o therefore_o it_o be_v our_o spiritual_a advantage_n i_o be_o the_o lord_n thy_o god_n that_o teach_v thou_o to_o profit_n isa_n 48._o 17._o god_n only_o can_v teach_v to_o profit_v blessed_n be_v the_o man_n who_o thou_o correct_a and_o teach_v job_n 5._o 17._o when_o god_n instruction_n and_o teach_n go_v along_o with_o his_o correction_n that_o man_n be_v bless_v that_o affliction_n shall_v be_v bless_v affliction_n itself_o can_v do_v it_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v need_n that_o we_o shall_v apply_v ourselves_o too_o god_n four_o 4._o god_n only_o can_v remove_v the_o affliction_n and_o he_o only_o can_v rebuke_v the_o distemper_n and_o silence_v the_o temptation_n for_o certain_o both_o affliction_n and_o temptation_n as_o i_o say_v before_o they_o be_v the_o lord_n messenger_n they_o be_v the_o army_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n they_o go_v and_o they_o come_v at_o his_o command_n he_o give_v out_o the_o word_n and_o he_o bid_v affliction_n to_o charge_n and_o it_o charge_v and_o if_o he_o bid_v it_o to_o retreat_n it_o shall_v retreat_v god_n only_o can_v deliver_v from_o affliction_n and_o from_o temptation_n therefore_o sure_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o worship_n in_o affliction_n and_o temptation_n be_v to_o fetch_v home_o the_o straggle_a sheep_n to_o bring_v god_n and_o the_o spirit_n nigh_o together_o therefore_o it_o be_v fit_a that_o we_o shall_v fall_v down_o and_o worship_n for_o therein_o do_v we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n when_o the_o soul_n fall_v down_o and_o worship_n god_n with_o internal_a worship_n fear_v he_o love_v he_o trust_v he_o and_o submit_v and_o so_o affliction_n attain_v its_o end_n six_o and_o last_o 6._o this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o ease_v and_o rest_n in_o our_o affliction_n we_o cry_v out_o for_o ease_n and_o rest_n that_o be_v the_o thing_n we_o seek_v after_o the_o way_n to_o have_v ease_n and_o rest_n be_v to_o fall_v down_o and_o worship_n for_o by_o so_o do_v the_o soul_n do_v cast_v its_o burden_n upon_o the_o lord_n when_o it_o do_v thus_o fall_v down_o and_o worship_n with_o the_o worship_n of_o the_o spirit_n fear_n and_o love_n and_o trust_v now_o the_o soul_n cast_v its_o burden_n upon_o the_o lord_n and_o his_o burden_n be_v leave_v there_o it_o bring_v in_o unspeakable_a rest_n i_o say_v when_o the_o soul_n by_o inward_a worship_n have_v go_v to_o god_n and_o leave_v his_o burden_n upon_o the_o lord_n be_v upon_o god_n than_o he_o will_v not_o expect_v much_o from_o the_o creature_n and_o apply_v himself_o to_o the_o creature_n because_o they_o be_v mean_n and_o because_o it_o be_v a_o ordinance_n but_o dare_v not_o expect_v much_o second_o if_o a_o man_n do_v meet_v with_o disappointment_n and_o he_o do_v apply_v himself_o to_o the_o creature_n in_o god_n way_n disappointment_n will_v not_o add_v any_o great_a trouble_n or_o vexation_n to_o that_o man_n or_o woman_n though_o he_o meet_v with_o little_a refreshment_n nay_o though_o instead_o of_o help_n and_o refreshment_n he_o shall_v meet_v with_o a_o addition_n of_o his_o sorrow_n and_o trouble_n yet_o if_o in_o god_n way_n he_o will_v not_o be_v trouble_v because_o his_o eye_n be_v upon_o god_n and_o i_o see_v it_o be_v not_o the_o will_n of_o the_o lord_n i_o shall_v yet_o have_v comfort_n and_o why_o shall_v i_o fret_v myself_o see_v the_o instrument_n be_v but_o a_o empty_a pipe_n and_o no_o creature_n can_v refresh_v and_o look_v to_o the_o creature_n for_o help_v and_o for_o relief_n and_o o_o that_o this_o may_v teach_v we_o to_o go_v more_o to_o god_n and_o apply_v ourselves_o more_o to_o christ_n object_n but_o it_o may_v be_v some_o poor_a soul_n will_v say_v well_o i_o have_v not_o only_o go_v to_o the_o creature_n but_o i_o have_v apply_v myself_o to_o god_n and_o yet_o true_o i_o meet_v with_o little_a refreshment_n i_o have_v cry_v to_o christ_n in_o the_o time_n of_o my_o affliction_n and_o yet_o my_o burden_n do_v continue_v answ_n first_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v it_o may_v be_v when_o thou_o have_v come_v to_o christ_n thou_o have_v complain_v of_o thy_o burden_n and_o of_o thy_o affliction_n but_o thou_o have_v not_o complain_v of_o thy_o sin_n thou_o have_v not_o complain_v of_o that_o which_o be_v the_o great_a matter_n of_o complaint_n and_o if_o thou_o have_v at_o any_o time_n look_v more_o to_o thy_o burden_n and_o affliction_n and_o have_v not_o complain_v of_o that_o which_o be_v the_o great_a matter_n of_o complaint_n no_o wonder_n then_o though_o thou_o have_v meet_v with_o no_o ease_n second_o let_v i_o say_v it_o may_v be_v thou_o have_v bring_v thy_o complaint_n and_o spread_v they_o before_o the_o lord_n yet_o thou_o have_v not_o leave_v thy_o burden_n with_o the_o lord_n many_o a_o soul_n come_v with_o a_o great_a burden_n ah_o but_o it_o carry_v it_o away_o and_o do_v not_o leave_v it_o with_o the_o lord_n and_o if_o the_o burden_n be_v not_o leave_v with_o the_o lord_n no_o wonder_n that_o we_o have_v no_o ease_n christ_n be_v willing_a we_o shall_v leave_v our_o burden_n with_o he_o and_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v find_v refreshment_n three_o and_o let_v i_o say_v further_o that_o it_o may_v be_v the_o lord_n have_v hear_v thy_o cry_n and_o thy_o complaint_n but_o thou_o be_v not_o aware_a of_o it_o thou_o have_v not_o take_v notice_n of_o it_o through_o unthankfulness_n thou_o have_v not_o observe_v that_o of_o and_o this_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o your_o go_v to_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n oh_o that_o we_o may_v be_v invite_v by_o this_o to_o apply_v ourselves_o more_o to_o christ_n in_o time_n of_o distress_n and_o spread_v our_o complaint_n before_o christ_n for_o in_o go_v to_o the_o creature_n many_o time_n the_o spirit_n be_v wound_v ah_o but_o in_o go_v to_o god_n the_o spirit_n shall_v be_v support_v though_o christ_n do_v not_o give_v out_o a_o present_a answer_n yet_o the_o heart_n shall_v be_v support_v under_o all_o its_o burden_n but_o now_o in_o go_v to_o man_n many_o time_n the_o heart_n and_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v wound_v by_o those_o disappointment_n that_o we_o meet_v withal_o while_o we_o expect_v that_o from_o the_o creature_n which_o it_o can_v do_v two_o thing_n only_o i_o shall_v propound_v to_o urge_v this_o duty_n upon_o you_o to_o make_v we_o more_o in_o go_v to_o christ_n and_o less_o to_o the_o creature_n it_o be_v a_o great_a sin_n and_o folly_n when_o as_o we_o leave_v christ_n and_o go_v to_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o day_n of_o our_o distress_n first_o it_o be_v a_o great_a sin_n for_o what_o do_v we_o then_o but_o set_v up_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o room_n of_o christ_n you_o know_v how_o sensible_a jacob_n be_v of_o this_o evil_a he_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o great_a evil_n when_o as_o rachel_n come_v to_o he_o the_o fountain_n to_o the_o break_a cistern_n to_o leave_v the_o fountain_n and_o think_v a_o break_a cistern_n shall_v supply_v he_o it_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o folly_n for_o a_o man_n to_o go_v to_o a_o deaf_a man_n one_o that_o can_v hear_v pour_v out_o his_o complaint_n &_o expect_v that_o he_o shall_v speak_v a_o word_n of_o refreshment_n so_o much_o folly_n there_o be_v when_o we_o there_o be_v when_o we_o do_v go_v to_o the_o creature_n and_o do_v not_o go_v to_o god_n we_o go_v to_o they_o that_o be_v poor_a and_o naked_a and_o forsake_v god_n that_o have_v all_o store_n of_o gentile_n and_o show_v mercy_n to_o the_o gentile_n no_o but_o afterward_o there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o christ_n do_v not_o go_v himself_o to_o the_o gentile_n and_o do_v not_o show_v mercy_n to_o the_o gentile_n nay_o he_o forbid_v his_o apostle_n and_o his_o disciple_n go_v not_o into_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gentile_n but_o go_v you_o rather_o to_o the_o lose_a sheep_n of_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n so_o that_o there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o it_o please_v the_o lord_n not_o to_o send_v the_o gospel_n but_o to_o restrain_v it_o from_o the_o gentile_n but_o there_o be_v a_o time_n also_o when_o christ_n do_v send_v forth_o his_o glorious_a gospel_n to_o the_o gentile_n so_o that_o you_o see_v in_o what_o respect_n christ_n speak_v here_o he_o be_v not_o send_v but_o to_o the_o lose_a sheep_n of_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n i_o be_o not_o send_v but_o to_o the_o lose_a sheep_n of_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n here_o be_v a_o seem_a denial_n that_o christ_n give_v to_o this_o woman_n he_o seem_v to_o tell_v she_o plain_o that_o he_o can_v do_v it_o for_o she_o it_o be_v beside_o his_o present_a work_n and_o commission_n he_o be_v not_o send_v to_o do_v it_o there_o be_v the_o denial_n nay_o the_o trial_n be_v the_o great_a in_o that_o christ_n answer_v thus_o not_o only_o to_o the_o woman_n request_n but_o to_o the_o disciple_n request_n this_o heighten_v the_o temptation_n and_o trial_n and_o make_v it_o the_o great_a so_o long_o as_o this_o woman_n see_v that_o the_o disciple_n be_v plead_v for_o she_o she_o may_v have_v hope_n though_o there_o be_v no_o ground_n of_o hope_n as_o to_o her_o request_n christ_n be_v silent_a thereunto_o yet_o it_o may_v revive_v her_o spirit_n to_o see_v his_o disciple_n step_v in_o and_o they_o to_o improve_v their_o interest_n in_o christ_n but_o when_o christ_n shall_v not_o only_o give_v a_o denial_n to_o the_o woman_n but_o to_o the_o disciple_n this_o be_v a_o sore_a trial_n if_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o mighty_o strengthen_v her_o faith_n she_o can_v never_o have_v hold_v up_o her_o head_n she_o will_v have_v conclude_v oh_o alas_o my_o estate_n and_o condition_n it_o be_v sad_a it_o be_v in_o vain_a for_o i_o to_o expect_v any_o salvation_n any_o mercy_n he_o be_v silent_a at_o my_o request_n and_o he_o give_v a_o denial_n when_o his_o disciple_n pray_v for_o i_o and_o if_o god_n will_v not_o hear_v his_o own_o people_n why_o then_o sure_o my_o condition_n be_v sad_a thus_o lay_v the_o temptation_n and_o yet_o the_o lord_n support_v this_o woman_n spirit_n so_o that_o we_o may_v observe_v this_o that_o god_n sometime_o do_v seem_v not_o only_o to_o be_v silent_a at_o the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n when_o they_o cry_v themselves_o 1._o but_o he_o give_v a_o denial_n when_o other_o step_v in_o and_o pray_v for_o they_o nay_o observe_v that_o after_o a_o soul_n have_v wait_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n 2._o when_o it_o have_v pray_v and_o have_v believe_v and_o when_o it_o have_v call_v in_o the_o help_n of_o other_o prayer_n yet_o the_o lord_n may_v seem_v to_o give_v a_o denial_n and_o the_o condition_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v worse_o and_o the_o temptation_n seem_v to_o rise_v high_a even_o after_o a_o soul_n have_v wait_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n and_o yet_o the_o lord_n may_v have_v a_o gracious_a design_n towards_o the_o soul_n for_o mark_v it_o this_o woman_n condition_n be_v worse_a now_o then_o ever_o it_o be_v the_o disciple_n have_v pray_v for_o she_o and_o yet_o even_o after_o this_o christ_n seem_v to_o give_v a_o flat_a denial_n and_o tell_v they_o that_o he_o can_v do_v it_o for_o she_o it_o be_v beside_o his_o commission_n he_o be_v not_o send_v to_o do_v it_o so_o that_o after_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n after_o her_o own_o prayer_n and_o the_o disciple_n prayer_n this_o woman_n meet_v with_o a_o flat_a denial_n and_o yet_o the_o lord_n jesus_n have_v a_o design_n of_o mercy_n to_o this_o poor_a woman_n yea_o it_o be_v god_n ordinary_a way_n to_o his_o people_n after_o they_o have_v use_v the_o mean_n to_o remove_v such_o a_o burden_n such_o a_o temptation_n such_o a_o corruption_n they_o have_v go_v to_o the_o lord_n they_o have_v wait_v they_o have_v believe_v and_o call_v in_o the_o help_n of_o other_o and_o yet_o temptation_n grow_v high_a and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o that_o the_o lord_n my_o have_v a_o design_n of_o mercy_n the_o child_n of_o israel_n when_o they_o be_v in_o the_o land_n of_o egypt_n under_o bondage_n and_o slavery_n they_o cry_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o
