enough_o to_o foreware_v they_o of_o adhere_v to_o she_o for_o can_v a_o man_n touch_v pitch_n and_o not_o be_v defile_v church_n a_o hint_n towards_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o true_a church_n but_o for_o all_o that_o have_v be_v say_v it_o may_v be_v some_o will_v say_v that_o grand_a question_n propound_v by_o a._n s._n in_o the_o second_o chapter_n of_o his_o book_n remain_v yet_o unanswered_a viz_o which_o be_v the_o true_a church_n etc._n etc._n first_o to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o be_v the_o true_a church_n and_o no_o other_o who_o fruit_n make_v manifest_a that_o they_o be_v govern_v by_o the_o invisible_a head_n christ_n and_o that_o continue_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n and_o that_o be_v find_v in_o the_o same_o order_n or_o discipline_n in_o their_o assembly_n that_o the_o true_a church_n be_v in_o the_o primitive_a time_n and_o that_o have_v the_o same_o way_n of_o ordain_v minister_n that_o the_o true_a church_n have_v and_o that_o live_v sober_o righteous_o and_o godly_a in_o this_o present_a world_n as_o the_o true_a church_n do_v but_o the_o people_n call_v quaeker_n be_v such_o as_o hereafter_o i_o shall_v prove_v therefore_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n be_v the_o true_a church_n second_o it_o be_v manifest_a by_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n that_o they_o be_v govern_v by_o the_o invisible_a head_n christ_n for_o christ_n command_v his_o follower_n not_o to_o swear_v at_o all_o which_o command_v the_o aforesaid_a people_n observe_v and_o keep_v as_o this_o nation_n of_o england_n full_a well_o know_v again_o christ_n come_v not_o to_o destroy_v man_n life_n but_o to_o save_v they_o and_o command_v his_o follower_n to_o love_v their_o enemy_n and_o it_o be_v manifest_a that_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n have_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n because_o they_o seek_v not_o the_o destruction_n of_o any_o but_o the_o preservation_n and_o good_a of_o all_o and_o that_o they_o love_v even_o their_o enemy_n who_o hate_n and_o persecute_v they_o because_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o assist_v or_o be_v helpful_a to_o they_o upon_o all_o occasion_n or_o opportunity_n in_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v tend_v to_o their_o present_a and_o future_a well-being_n therefore_o they_o be_v govern_v by_o the_o invisible_a head_n christ_n again_o christ_n command_v say_v notwithstanding_o will_v say_v christ_n have_v a_o distinct_a be_v from_o his_o spirit_n which_o be_v of_o his_o giving_n forth_o and_o thus_o as_o fancy_n lead_v he_o he_o affirm_v thing_n as_o in_o page_n 43._o he_o say_v if_o scripture_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n it_o make_v void_a the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n for_o faith_n must_v be_v exercise_v in_o the_o scripture_n or_o of_o god_n manifest_v in_o he_o who_o be_v the_o author_n of_o true_a faith_n or_o the_o begetter_n thereof_o and_o be_v also_o the_o object_n thereof_o in_o which_o it_o be_v exercise_v and_o in_o who_o it_o stand_v who_o all_o must_v hear_v that_o receive_v the_o true_a faith_n which_o be_v the_o victory_n that_o overcome_v the_o world_n and_o which_o give_v access_n unto_o god_n in_o which_o god_n signify_v by_o his_o prophet_n that_o the_o filth_n of_o the_o daughter_n of_o zion_n shall_v be_v purge_v away_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o judgement_n and_o of_o burn_v isa_n 4.4_o and_o this_o be_v that_o spirit_n by_o which_o the_o saint_n be_v wash_v cleanse_v sanctify_a and_o justify_v when_o the_o apostle_n tell_v they_o they_o be_v so_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o god_n 1_o cor._n 6.11_o and_o they_o that_o be_v thus_o wash_v and_o bring_v forth_o into_o this_o gospel_n purity_n they_o be_v make_v a_o habitation_n filth_n be_v purge_v away_o there_o be_v room_n for_o he_o to_o dwell_v there_o and_o so_o be_v real_o in_o they_o form_v and_o they_o bring_v forth_o in_o his_o own_o image_n by_o his_o own_o operation_n with_o who_o the_o apostle_n be_v co-worker_n and_o therefore_o travel_v for_o this_o form_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o or_o for_o the_o subject_v they_o in_o the_o faith_n whole_o unto_o christ_n government_n that_o he_o may_v reign_v in_o they_o over_o all_o who_o be_v god_n bless_v forever_o one_o thing_n more_o which_o i_o find_v in_o the_o close_a of_o his_o book_n which_o he_o and_o whereas_o he_o say_v let_v we_o labour_n with_o god_n for_o his_o bless_a spirit_n to_o guide_v we_o in_o all_o truth_n he_o therein_o seem_v to_o own_o truth_n to_o be_v a_o mystery_n within_o also_o for_o if_o the_o spirit_n be_v to_o be_v receive_v it_o must_v be_v within_o and_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n because_o as_o j._n n._n elsewhere_o confess_v it_o be_v of_o the_o same_o be_v nature_n power_n and_o tendency_n with_o god_n who_o be_v truth_n and_o with_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o truth_n and_o the_o spirit_n be_v the_o unction_n which_o be_v receive_v from_o the_o holy_a one_o which_o be_v true_a and_o not_o a_o lie_n so_o here_o he_o seem_v to_o own_o truth_n a_o mystery_n within_o the_o spirit_n be_v mystery_n which_o before_o he_o say_v be_v contrary_a to_o truth_n be_v intent_n and_o thus_o his_o confusion_n appear_v from_o time_n to_o time_n and_o moreover_o if_o in_o such_o a_o dangerous_a time_n as_o he_o suppose_v this_o to_o be_v the_o spirit_n be_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n know_v no_o man_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o he_o to_o who_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n reveal_v they_o and_o he_o say_v let_v we_o not_o be_v hasty_a to_o receive_v a_o opinion_n before_o we_o have_v weigh_v the_o same_o by_o the_o law_n and_o testimony_n see_v there_o be_v many_o false_a spirit_n go_v out_o into_o the_o world_n answ_n that_o there_o be_v many_o false_a spirit_n go_v out_o into_o the_o world_n i_o grant_v and_o that_o be_v a_o false_a babilonish_a spirit_n that_o contradict_v itself_o as_o the_o spirit_n of_o j.n._n have_v do_v as_o before_o show_v and_o that_o be_v the_o true_a spirit_n of_o grace_n which_o teach_v to_o live_v godlike_a in_o this_o present_a world_n but_o that_o which_o lead_v into_o confusion_n be_v not_o godlike_a but_o such_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o j.n._n therefore_o not_o to_o be_v receive_v and_o that_o all_o opinion_n and_o spirit_n be_v to_o be_v try_v by_o the_o law_n and_o testimony_n i_o own_o but_o what_o be_v this_o law_n and_o testimony_n be_v it_o not_o the_o light_n and_o spirit_n in_o the_o inward_a part_n for_o solomon_n say_v the_o law_n be_v light_a and_o liberty_n the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o light_n thereof_o in_o the_o inward_a part_n for_o this_o be_v that_o perfect_a rule_n that_o lead_v in_o the_o way_n in_o which_o a_o wayfaring-man_n though_o a_o fool_n can_v err_v and_o without_o this_o there_o be_v none_o able_a to_o understand_v the_o scripture_n nor_o to_o practice_v they_o because_o of_o ourselves_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o yet_o we_o be_v willing_a to_o have_v our_o doctrine_n principle_n and_o practice_n try_v by_o the_o scripture_n of_o truth_n but_o than_o say_v j.n._n the_o most_o dangerous_a spirit_n be_v this_o will_v keep_v people_n out_o of_o a_o expectation_n of_o see_v and_o behold_v that_o glory_n that_o be_v endless_a while_o on_o this_o side_n the_o grave_a be_v not_o much_o inferior_a as_o to_o the_o ill-consequence_n of_o it_o to_o the_o other_o for_o that_o will_v deprive_v people_n of_o the_o chief_a happiness_n of_o this_o life_n and_o of_o the_o happy_a enjoyment_n of_o that_o glory_n which_o their_o peace_n and_o joy_n be_v full_a of_o in_o believe_v while_o they_o remain_v on_o this_o side_n the_o grave_a and_o may_v also_o endanger_v to_o deprive_v they_o of_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v receive_v in_o the_o life_n that_o be_v to_o come_v for_o if_o the_o earnest_a of_o the_o incorruptible_a inheritance_n which_o be_v a_o part_n thereof_o be_v not_o receive_v in_o this_o life_n what_o true_a comfort_n can_v there_o be_v enjoy_v in_o this_o life_n so_o then_o that_o spirit_n of_o grace_n or_o word_n of_o grace_n which_o manifest_v its_o light_n and_o strength_n in_o the_o inward_a part_n by_o its_o own_o operation_n for_o the_o beget_n of_o faith_n in_o and_o concern_v itself_o in_o all_o that_o hear_v and_o receive_v it_o this_o i_o say_v of_o god_n and_o in_o the_o place_n of_o the_o live_a spirit_n six_o he_o say_v it_o deni_v the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n for_o if_o the_o scripture_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n than_o who_o know_v what_o god_n will_v accept_v &_o c_o and_o who_o know_v what_o god_n count_v sin_n and_o wickedness_n etc._n etc._n answ_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v in_o part_n answer_v already_o for_o enoch_n etc._n etc._n have_v this_o testimony_n that_o he_o please_v god_n heb._n 11.5_o before_o the_o scripture_n be_v write_v and_o that_o testimony_n be_v the_o seal_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n which_o i_o dare_v affirm_v every_o true_a believer_n will_v acknowledge_v and_o this_o testimony_n of_o acceptance_n he_o do_v not_o receive_v from_o scripture_n for_o there_o be_v none_o but_o he_o obtain_v it_o by_o faith_n which_o the_o word_n that_o be_v in_o the_o beginning_n be_v the_o author_n of_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v he_o that_o believe_v have_v the_o witness_n in_o himself_o 1_o joh._n 5.10_o by_o which_o it_o appear_v that_o the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n or_o the_o seal_n of_o be_v well-pleasing_a unto_o god_n be_v not_o the_o scripture_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o faith_n but_o that_o j._n n._n and_o other_o may_v see_v the_o confusion_n that_o he_o run_v into_o while_o he_o be_v fight_v against_o the_o truth_n i_o insert_v his_o own_o word_n in_o the_o 77th_o page_n of_o his_o book_n and_o compare_v they_o with_o this_o assertion_n he_o say_v i_o shall_v free_o own_v the_o give_v forth_o of_o his_o bless_a spirit_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n whereby_o they_o be_v direct_v into_o his_o most_o holy_a will_n by_o the_o enlighten_v of_o their_o spirit_n by_o that_o holy_a spirit_n of_o promise_n by_o which_o they_o know_v their_o adoption_n and_o also_o by_o the_o same_o spirit_n can_v own_o god_n to_o be_v their_o father_n etc._n etc._n thus_o far_o be_v his_o own_o word_n by_o which_o the_o reader_n may_v easy_o judge_v whether_o or_o no_o j-n._a do_v not_o speak_v absolute_o contrary_a to_o the_o belief_n or_o persuasion_n of_o his_o mind_n in_o say_v if_o the_o scripture_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n it_o deni_v the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n and_o who_o then_o know_v what_o god_n account_v sin_n and_o wickedness_n etc._n etc._n i_o say_v let_v the_o reader_n but_o compare_v his_o confession_n concern_v the_o spirit_n with_o his_o assertion_n concern_v the_o scripture_n and_o he_o shall_v see_v his_o contradition_n sufficient_o that_o must_v absolute_o be_v know_v also_o and_o how_o then_o can_v it_o be_v say_v that_o without_o scripture_n be_v own_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o ground_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n be_v deny_v see_v that_o which_o manifest_v the_o will_n of_o the_o father_n manifest_v that_o which_o be_v acceptable_a to_o he_o and_o thereby_o it_o be_v know_v and_o all_o this_o may_v be_v know_v by_o the_o spirit_n
as_o j._n n._n confess_v to_o the_o wound_n of_o his_o own_o work_n and_o indeed_o what_o he_o have_v acknowledge_v be_v to_o be_v know_v by_o the_o spirit_n be_v even_o enough_o for_o any_o man_n to_o know_v or_o enough_o to_o give_v satisfaction_n to_o every_o soul_n who_o breathe_v after_o the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n for_o what_o can_v give_v more_o satisfaction_n to_o a_o man_n then_o to_o know_v the_o holy_a will_n of_o god_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o to_o know_v his_o adoption_n and_o to_o know_v that_o god_n be_v his_o father_n certain_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n for_o he_o that_o have_v this_o knowledge_n to_o question_v his_o acceptance_n with_o god_n and_o this_o may_v be_v know_v without_o scripture_n even_o by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o promise_n as_o j.n._n confess_v therefore_o to_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n do_v not_o deny_v the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n and_o thus_o out_o of_o his_o own_o mouth_n he_o be_v judge_v seven_o he_o say_v if_o the_o scripture_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n then_o all_o man_n be_v leave_v in_o the_o dark_a etc._n that_o god_n will_v save_v even_o before_o scripture_n be_v write_v which_o make_v he_o say_v gen._n 49.18_o o_o lord_n i_o have_v wait_v for_o thy_o salvation_n by_o all_o which_o it_o appear_v that_o to_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n do_v not_o leave_v man_n so_o in_o the_o dark_a as_o j._n n._n affirm_v but_o that_o they_o be_v still_o in_o a_o capacity_n to_o know_v that_o god_n will_v save_v and_o also_o to_o see_v the_o salvation_n of_o god_n which_o be_v promise_v to_o they_o that_o order_n their_o conversation_n aright_o and_o whereas_o he_o say_v that_o the_o scripture_n direct_v to_o the_o mean_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v obtain_v life_n i_o answer_v i_o shall_v easy_o acknowledge_v that_o for_o as_o i_o have_v before_o say_v they_o contain_v many_o true_a testimony_n of_o he_o who_o be_v the_o alone_a leader_n unto_o life_n and_o they_o be_v profitable_a for_o doctrine_n for_o instruction_n etc._n etc._n that_o people_n may_v be_v direct_v to_o christ_n the_o way_n which_o they_o testify_v of_o and_o that_o they_o may_v be_v turn_v from_o darkness_n to_o the_o light_n which_o discover_v the_o darkness_n and_o that_o they_o may_v come_v to_o receive_v with_o meekness_n the_o engraft_a word_n or_o the_o word_n which_o be_v graft_v in_o they_o by_o it_o to_o be_v teach_v and_o lead_v unto_o the_o possession_n of_o life_n for_o this_o be_v the_o mean_n by_o which_o life_n be_v obtain_v which_o the_o scripture_n testify_v of_o and_o direct_v unto_o and_o for_o this_o work_n we_o own_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v profitable_a but_o this_o do_v not_o run_v parallel_n with_o the_o affirmation_n of_o j._n n._n in_o the_o 24_o page_n of_o his_o book_n where_o he_o affirm_v that_o life_n be_v in_o the_o scripture_n for_o its_o one_o thing_n to_o say_v that_o there_o be_v life_n therein_o and_o another_o thing_n to_o say_v they_o direct_v to_o the_o mean_n by_o which_o life_n be_v obtain_v if_o john_n newman_n assert_v not_o other_o thing_n then_o the_o latter_a there_o have_v be_v no_o controversy_n about_o this_o point_n for_o so_o far_o we_o own_o the_o scripture_n but_o his_o confusion_n show_v what_o his_o spirit_n be_v oft-tmes_a contradict_v and_o oppose_v himself_o as_o be_v usual_a with_o those_o that_o oppose_v the_o unchangeable_a truth_n but_o i_o perceive_v a_o objection_n may_v arise_v in_o the_o ignorant_a concern_v this_o thing_n that_o if_o the_o word_n which_o be_v able_a to_o save_v be_v graft_v in_o people_n and_o be_v nigh_o unto_o all_o even_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o mouth_n why_o then_o be_v not_o all_o save_v or_o why_o do_v not_o all_o see_v the_o salvation_n of_o god_n or_o why_o do_v the_o apostle_n exhort_v they_o to_o receive_v it_o with_o meekness_n if_o it_o be_v in_o they_o already_o i_o answer_v though_o the_o word_n or_o spirit_n which_o be_v one_o be_v in_o they_o yet_o they_o be_v disobedient_a thereunto_o do_v not_o receive_v it_o or_o have_v not_o receive_v it_o but_o have_v always_o resist_v it_o as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v they_o act_v 7.51_o and_o so_o be_v like_a unto_o those_o that_o job_n speak_v of_o say_v they_o be_v of_o they_o that_o rebel_n against_o the_o light_n who_o know_v not_o the_o way_n of_o it_o etc._n etc._n job_n 24.13_o so_o that_o although_o the_o word_n or_o light_n or_o spirit_n be_v in_o a_o people_n and_o they_o rebel_v against_o it_o or_o resist_v the_o reproof_n and_o instruction_n thereof_o or_o do_v despite_n to_o the_o strive_n thereof_o how_o can_v such_o be_v say_v to_o have_v receive_v it_o for_o they_o only_o receive_v the_o word_n and_o the_o spirit_n that_o receive_v the_o reproof_n and_o instruction_n thereof_o and_o in_o they_o it_o be_v know_v to_o be_v a_o spirit_n or_o prince_n of_o peace_n and_o a_o word_n of_o life_n and_o consolation_n and_o such_o know_v their_o beloved_n to_o lie_v all_o might_n betwixt_o their_o breast_n but_o although_o he_o be_v nigh_o even_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o many_o they_o can_v be_v say_v to_o receive_v he_o while_o they_o rebel_v against_o he_o and_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o save_v but_o condemn_v by_o he_o for_o this_o be_v the_o condemnation_n that_o light_n be_v come_v and_o man_n love_v darkness_n rather_o than_o light_n joh._n 3.19_o and_o though_o he_o light_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n yet_o it_o
