of_o what_o he_o see_v amiss_o in_o kingdom_n or_o church_n to_o this_o some_o answer_n have_v be_v give_v already_o to_o which_o may_v be_v add_v thus_o much_o more_o 1._o be_v very_o sure_o that_o what_o you_o think_v to_o be_v amiss_o be_v so_o indeed_o before_o you_o go_v about_o to_o mend_v it_o man_n be_v too_o apt_a to_o make_v their_o own_o irregular_a desire_n and_o wish_n yea_o and_o not_o seldom_o a_o irrational_a conceit_n and_o phantasy_n or_o even_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o this_o in_o some_o other_o man_n or_o party_n for_o who_o they_o have_v a_o kindness_n the_o rule_n of_o right_n and_o wrong_n and_o so_o judge_v every_o thing_n to_o be_v amiss_o which_o they_o or_o such_o as_o they_o count_v their_o friend_n dislike_v measure_v thing_n by_o their_o proper_a rule_n not_o that_o of_o self-interest_n or_o affection_n but_o god_n word_n view_n and_o examine_v they_o by_o a_o true_a light_n be_v not_o mislead_v by_o man_n report_n or_o vain_a surmise_n but_o try_v all_o thing_n and_o then_o hold_v fast_o that_o which_o be_v good_a if_o you_o take_v not_o this_o course_n instead_o of_o mend_v what_o be_v amiss_o you_o will_v only_o mar_v that_o which_o his_o good_a be_v sure_a that_o what_o you_o will_v amend_v be_v against_o god_n will_n or_o else_o it_o need_v no_o mend_n and_o none_o will_v owe_v you_o thanks_o for_o your_o vain_a device_n 2._o be_v as_o sure_a in_o the_o next_o place_n that_o you_o be_v every_o way_n right_o fit_v and_o due_o qualify_v for_o the_o work_n you_o take_v in_o hand_n see_v that_o you_o have_v both_o skill_n and_o strength_n and_o good_a authority_n for_o what_o you_o undertake_v it_o be_v not_o every_o bold_a bungler_n that_o have_v face_n enough_o to_o praise_v himself_o and_o laugh_v at_o other_o who_o be_v fit_a for_o such_o a_o work_n as_o be_v the_o reformation_n of_o kingdom_n and_o church_n it_o be_v not_o all_o a_o thing_n to_o hold_v a_o plow-staff_n and_o a_o sceptre_n be_v content_a to_o employ_v your_o talent_n according_o as_o you_o be_v fit_v with_o they_o and_o think_v it_o be_v god_n will_v you_o shall_v busy_v yourselves_o in_o those_o employment_n for_o which_o he_o have_v best_o furnish_v you_o and_o in_o those_o station_n wherein_o he_o have_v think_v fit_a to_o place_v you_o if_o he_o have_v design_v you_o for_o high_a calling_n he_o will_v probable_o have_v give_v you_o a_o more_o suitable_a education_n and_o furnish_v you_o with_o better_a tool_n and_o if_o other_o man_n who_o pretend_v to_o high_a thing_n shall_v tell_v you_o that_o they_o be_v wise_a enough_o both_o for_o themselves_o and_o you_o and_o thereby_o will_v tempt_v you_o to_o second_v they_o in_o their_o device_n be_v sure_a first_o that_o they_o have_v indeed_o all_o that_o which_o you_o find_v want_v in_o yourselves_o to_o fit_v they_o for_o be_v your_o leader_n in_o such_o bold_a attempt_n and_o that_o be_v not_o only_a wisdom_n and_o strength_n but_o good_a authority_n and_o a_o just_a call_v unto_o the_o work_n from_o god_n let_v they_o produce_v their_o commission_n and_o show_v you_o thus_o it_o be_v write_v and_o that_o must_v be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n declare_v in_o his_o word_n not_o whisper_v into_o the_o ear_n by_o a_o pigeon_n not_o dictate_v from_o a_o infallible_a chair_n not_o send_v in_o some_o flash_n of_o new_a light_n or_o suggest_v by_o something_o blasphemous_o call_v the_o spirit_n within_o they_o for_o the_o truth_n of_o all_o which_o you_o must_v at_o last_o be_v content_a with_o their_o own_o bare_a word_n which_o be_v sure_a rame_z by_o any_o sin_n or_o wickedness_n or_o a_o hypocritical_a show_n of_o piety_n for_o this_o be_v to_o build_v our_o reputation_n upon_o god_n dishonour_n 3._o how_o we_o endeavour_v to_o build_v our_o own_o reputation_n upon_o the_o ruin_n of_o another_o man_n for_o this_o be_v a_o sin_n against_o both_o the_o justice_n and_o the_o charity_n which_o we_o owe_v unto_o all_o man_n 4._o how_o we_o abuse_v our_o reputation_n among_o man_n to_o the_o countenance_v of_o faction_n and_o sedition_n or_o any_o evil_a thing_n whatsoever_o in_o short_a let_v our_o own_o glory_n always_o stoop_v and_o veil_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n the_o edification_n of_o the_o church_n the_o peace_n and_o tranquillity_n of_o state_n the_o subjection_n which_o we_o owe_v to_o our_o superior_n and_o the_o good_a of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v no_o vain-glory._n how_o both_o these_o strife_n and_o vainglory_n be_v to_o be_v cast_v out_o we_o must_v learn_v by_o the_o second_o at_o this_o time_n be_v 1._o to_o lay_v down_o a_o brief_a description_n of_o the_o grace_n commend_v lowliness_n of_o mind_n 2._o to_o show_v its_o great_a efficacy_n for_o the_o root_n out_o of_o strife_n and_o vainglory_n the_o two_o grand_a enemy_n to_o love_n and_o peace_n and_o 3._o to_o declare_v the_o practice_n of_o it_o in_o esteem_v each_o other_o better_a than_o ourselves_o 1._o the_o grace_n or_o virtue_n which_o be_v here_o commend_v to_o we_o be_v humility_n or_o lowliness_n of_o mind_n a_o grace_n which_o abundant_o commend_v itself_o and_o engage_v the_o affection_n of_o all_o that_o see_v it_o wherever_o it_o be_v but_o as_o all_o thing_n of_o great_a worth_n common_o be_v almost_o as_o rare_a as_o it_o be_v excellent_a one_o most_o illustrious_a example_n of_o it_o we_o have_v to_o imitate_v which_o be_v its_o worth_n unknown_a be_v enough_o to_o commend_v it_o unto_o all_o christian_n and_o if_o it_o do_v not_o so_o they_o be_v not_o christian_n whatever_o they_o be_v please_v to_o call_v themselves_o look_v upon_o the_o whole_a life_n and_o death_n of_o he_o who_o come_v to_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n jesus_n christ_n and_o you_o see_v this_o divine_a virtue_n express_v to_o the_o life_n how_o wonderful_a then_o must_v it_o be_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o great_a a_o stranger_n in_o the_o christian_a world_n and_o so_o few_o that_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n have_v any_o intimate_a acquaintance_n with_o it_o though_o all_o commend_v it_o in_o other_o yet_o few_o labour_n to_o find_v it_o in_o themselves_o this_o be_v it_o a_o holy_a frame_n and_o temper_n of_o spirit_n whereby_o a_o man_n do_v most_o hearty_o give_v all_o honour_n possible_a to_o god_n as_o much_o as_o be_v due_a to_o every_o man_n and_o be_v content_a with_o a_o very_a little_a for_o himself_o it_o whole_o empty_v he_o of_o all_o self-conceit_n check_v in_o he_o all_o aspire_a thought_n make_v he_o true_o sensible_a what_o he_o be_v and_o teach_v he_o not_o to_o think_v of_o himself_o above_o what_o he_o find_v himself_o to_o be_v and_o to_o be_v content_a although_o other_o shall_v think_v he_o to_o be_v much_o less_o than_o indeed_o he_o be_v the_o humble_a man_n be_v very_o much_o in_o consider_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o creature_n of_o god_n and_o to_o depend_v whole_o upon_o he_o and_o to_o have_v nothing_o at_o all_o but_o only_o what_o it_o have_v please_v god_n to_o bestow_v upon_o he_o he_o consider_v yet_o far_o that_o he_o be_v a_o sinner_n and_o that_o he_o offend_v god_n daily_a and_o serve_v he_o at_o best_a very_o imperfect_o and_o weak_o that_o he_o have_v often_o abuse_v god_n goodness_n and_o be_v thereupon_o become_v less_o than_o the_o least_o of_o his_o mercy_n he_o acknowledge_v that_o his_o want_n and_o infirmity_n be_v much_o more_o than_o his_o ability_n and_o that_o there_o be_v hardly_o any_o creature_n of_o god_n but_o do_v now_o as_o he_o be_v a_o sinner_n excel_v he_o in_o something_o at_o least_o in_o innocence_n and_o that_o in_o one_o respect_n or_o other_o he_o stand_v in_o as_o much_o need_n of_o they_o as_o any_o of_o they_o do_v of_o he_o he_o remember_v how_o unable_a he_o be_v of_o himself_o to_o help_v himself_o to_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a either_o for_o his_o soul_n or_o body_n without_o the_o assistance_n and_o blessing_n of_o another_o and_o now_o consider_v all_o this_o and_o much_o more_o to_o this_o purpose_n his_o own_o glory_n vanish_v from_o his_o sight_n he_o entertain_v low_a and_o just_a thought_n of_o himself_o as_o a_o poor_a weak_a wicked_a and_o for_o that_o a_o very_a contemptible_a creature_n that_o can_v deserve_v nothing_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n not_o do_v either_o god_n or_o his_o neighbour_n or_o himself_o any_o considerable_a part_n of_o that_o service_n which_o he_o ought_v to_o do_v he_o look_v upon_o all_o that_o he_o have_v as_o another_o free_a gift_n and_o bounty_n he_o look_v upon_o all_o that_o he_o do_v or_o can_v do_v in_o relation_n to_o god_n his_o neighbour_n and_o himself_o as_o imperfect_a at_o best_a and_o without_o god_n blessing_n vain_a if_o not_o hurtful_a and_o hence_o he_o look_v upon_o himself_o as_o a_o very_a unworthy_a and_o useless_a thing_n but_o only_o as_o he_o may_v be_v a_o instrument_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o great_a and_o good_a god_n and_o may_v by_o the_o power_n and_o wisdom_n of_o his_o manager_n be_v direct_v to_o something_o good_a from_o hence_o it_o also_o come_v that_o whatsoever_o this_o humble_a man_n have_v he_o hold_v himself_o as_o a_o debtor_n to_o god_n for_o it_o so_o also_o most_o unworthy_a of_o it_o and_o it_o whatever_o it_o be_v too_o good_a for_o he_o and_o can_v but_o admire_v god_n goodness_n and_o bounty_n to_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o he_o be_v in_o permit_v he_o yet_o to_o live_v if_o he_o suffer_v any_o evil_n he_o account_v it_o a_o very_a light_a thing_n in_o comparison_n of_o what_o he_o have_v deserve_v to_o suffer_v and_o therefore_o repine_v not_o at_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o suffering_n but_o admire_v god_n goodness_n still_o in_o deal_v so_o gentle_o with_o he_o and_o bless_v he_o that_o they_o be_v no_o great_a whatsoever_o he_o do_v if_o it_o be_v sinful_a he_o take_v it_o all_o to_o himself_o he_o own_v the_o shame_n of_o it_o and_o think_v of_o himself_o as_o a_o sinner_n ought_v to_o do_v and_o if_o it_o be_v good_a he_o bless_v god_n that_o have_v enable_v he_o to_o do_v it_o and_o call_v nothing_o of_o it_o his_o own_o beside_o the_o imperfection_n of_o it_o nor_o can_v he_o think_v any_o part_n of_o the_o world_n behold_v to_o he_o for_o do_v but_o a_o very_a little_a part_n of_o his_o duty_n in_o it_o and_o very_o imperfect_o nothing_o that_o he_o either_o be_v or_o have_v or_o do_v can_v swell_v he_o up_o with_o any_o proud_a thought_n of_o himself_o but_o still_o he_o be_v less_o in_o his_o own_o eye_n than_o he_o can_v be_v in_o any_o man_n else_o and_o account_n himself_o a_o very_a unworthy_a thing_n this_o be_v a_o man_n of_o a_o lowly_a mind_n and_o that_o this_o be_v a_o right_a christian_a temper_n sufficient_o appear_v from_o two_o thing_n which_o i_o need_v but_o only_a name_n 1._o because_o it_o have_v so_o much_o of_o the_o image_n of_o jesus_n christ_n visible_a in_o it_o who_o make_v himself_o of_o no_o reputation_n as_o before_o we_o see_v 2._o because_o it_o have_v his_o special_a blessing_n rest_v upon_o it_o bless_a be_v the_o poor_a in_o spirit_n for_o they_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n matt._n 5._o 3._o which_o i_o shall_v now_o suppose_v enough_o to_o commend_v this_o lovely_a virtue_n to_o the_o practice_n of_o christian_n and_o proceed_v to_o the_o second_o thing_n viz._n 2._o to_o show_v in_o a_o few_o word_n the_o efficacy_n of_o this_o heavenly_a virtue_n to_o drive_v out_o strife_n and_o vain-glory._n and_o the_o thing_n be_v so_o obvious_a that_o this_o and_o this_o only_o can_v do_v
