spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n stir_v up_o sigh_n and_o groan_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n which_o can_v be_v utter_v so_o when_o thou_o can_v not_o speak_v a_o word_n to_o the_o lord_n yet_o thou_o may_v cry_v job_n can_v noâ—_n speak_v yet_o his_o soul_n cry_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o his_o eye_n cry_v to_o the_o lord_n job_n 16._o 20._o my_o friend_n scorn_v i_o but_o my_o eye_n pour_v out_o tear_n unto_o god_n when_o he_o know_v not_o how_o to_o speak_v a_o word_n his_o eye_n look_v to_o the_o lord_n if_o he_o can_v pour_v out_o his_o prayer_n his_o eye_n shall_v speak_v and_o his_o soul_n shall_v speak_v this_o may_v be_v a_o effectual_a prayer_n object_n ah_o but_o i_o be_o fill_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o my_o unworthiness_n i_o dare_v not_o go_v before_o the_o lord_n i_o dare_v not_o beg_v any_o mercy_n nor_o stand_v in_o his_o presence_n i_o be_o fill_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o my_o own_o unworthiness_n answ_n i_o tell_v thou_o though_o thou_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o thy_o unworthiness_n yet_o thou_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o cry_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o pour_v out_o thy_o soul_n in_o supplication_n the_o publican_n that_o go_v up_o to_o the_o temple_n he_o dare_v not_o draw_v nigh_o he_o look_v upon_o himself_o as_o a_o unworthy_a sinner_n and_o yet_o pour_v out_o his_o prayer_n to_o the_o lord_n the_o sense_n of_o thy_o unworthiness_n shall_v not_o hinder_v thou_o in_o the_o pour_v out_o of_o thy_o prayer_n to_o the_o lord_n the_o more_o unvorthy_a the_o more_o need_n of_o go_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o more_o sensible_a of_o thy_o unworthiness_n the_o soon_o the_o lord_n declare_v his_o acceptance_n oh_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v we_o all_o mindful_a of_o this_o our_o duty_n we_o be_v apt_a to_o cry_v with_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o o_o that_o in_o the_o day_n of_o our_o distress_n we_o do_v cry_v with_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o spirit_n let_v the_o cry_n that_o spring_v from_o pride_n impatiency_n and_o unbelief_n be_v silent_a lay_v low_o and_o let_v it_o not_o open_v its_o mouth_n but_o cry_v with_o the_o cry_n of_o faith_n with_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o spirit_n this_o will_v be_v a_o good_a evidence_n that_o affliction_n have_v wrought_v the_o right_a way_n and_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v do_v we_o good_a by_o our_o affliction_n till_o the_o flesh_n be_v silent_a and_o the_o spirit_n raise_v up_o to_o cry_v in_o faith_n we_o shall_v never_o have_v any_o evidence_n that_o we_o have_v receive_v benefit_n by_o our_o affliction_n but_o when_o the_o soul_n shall_v be_v in_o affliction_n and_o the_o spirit_n up_o and_o cry_v it_o will_v be_v a_o good_a evidence_n that_o the_o soul_n have_v receive_v good_a by_o the_o affliction_n and_o to_o say_v no_o more_o the_o lord_n will_v soon_o draw_v nigh_o to_o that_o soul_n that_o shall_v thus_o be_v find_v wait_v for_o he_o when_o the_o flesh_n shall_v be_v silent_a and_o the_o spirit_n cry_v the_o lord_n will_v soon_o hear_v that_o cry_n you_o know_v the_o lord_n be_v a_o tender_a heart_a father_n and_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v any_o of_o his_o child_n to_o be_v tempt_v above_o what_o they_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v he_o will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o sink_v under_o their_o burden_n but_o will_v come_v in_o with_o deliver_v mercy_n for_o the_o lord_n do_v sometime_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o flesh_n so_o he_o have_v hear_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o flesh_n though_o not_o the_o sinful_a cry_n yet_o the_o cry_n of_o nature_n the_o lord_n have_v hear_v that_o cry_n he_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o ishamel_n when_o as_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o perish_v for_o thirst_n the_o lad_n cry_v and_o he_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o lad_n and_o the_o lord_n open_v the_o eye_n of_o hagar_n and_o she_o see_v a_o well_o of_o water_n he_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o flesh_n so_o gracious_a be_v the_o lord_n yea_o he_o hear_v she_o cry_v of_o the_o young_a raven_n of_o the_o young_a lion_n and_o the_o lord_n he_o open_v his_o hand_n and_o satisfy_v they_o o_o that_o this_o may_v be_v a_o encouragement_n to_o go_v to_o god_n in_o all_o time_n of_o distress_n let_v it_o be_v never_o so_o great_a the_o lord_n be_v a_o god_n of_o compassion_n and_o if_o he_o do_v hear_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o unreasonable_a creature_n and_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o flesh_n o_o sure_o the_o lord_n will_v fast_o twice_o a_o week_n i_o give_v tithe_n of_o all_o i_o possess_v but_o the_o publican_n he_o smite_v upon_o his_o breast_n say_v god_n be_v merciful_a to_o i_o a_o sinner_n and_o the_o publican_n do_v the_o saint_n do_v good_a work_n ignorant_o do_v good_a and_o do_v not_o know_v no_o that_o which_o be_v do_v out_o of_o ignorance_n be_v sinful_a no_o they_o know_v what_o they_o do_v and_o merit_n no_o the_o more_o they_o be_v enable_v and_o assist_v to_o do_v for_o christ_n the_o more_o they_o be_v engage_v unto_o christ_n christ_n be_v not_o engage_v to_o they_o but_o they_o engage_v to_o christ_n and_o beside_o whatever_o they_o have_v do_v in_o the_o service_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o they_o it_o be_v accompany_v with_o many_o weakness_n and_o frailty_n that_o if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o christ_n and_o his_o righteousness_n and_o christ_n present_v they_o god_n the_o father_n can_v not_o accept_v the_o best_a service_n that_o ever_o be_v do_v by_o the_o best_a man_n and_o beside_o the_o saint_n know_v that_o when_o they_o have_v do_v all_o they_o can_v they_o be_v unprofitable_a servant_n if_o they_o can_v do_v a_o thousand_o time_n more_o for_o god_n yet_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o plead_v christ_n teach_v we_o so_o luke_n 17._o 10._o so_o likewise_o you_o when_o you_o shall_v have_v do_v all_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v command_v you_o say_v we_o be_v unprofitable_a servant_n we_o have_v do_v that_o which_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o do_v mark_v if_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o any_o of_o god_n people_n to_o do_v all_o that_o the_o lord_n require_v yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o to_o plead_v you_o have_v do_v but_o that_o which_o be_v your_o duty_n that_o which_o be_v your_o debt_n now_o the_o payment_n of_o a_o debt_n be_v no_o engagement_n he_o to_o who_o the_o debt_n be_v pay_v be_v not_o engage_v you_o have_v do_v but_o your_o duty_n and_o so_o the_o best_a of_o all_o the_o saint_n if_o they_o can_v do_v all_o that_o be_v require_v they_o do_v but_o pay_v their_o debt_n there_o be_v a_o debt_n of_o thankfulness_n not_o debt_n of_o justice_n we_o have_v do_v that_o which_o be_v duty_n which_o we_o owe_v to_o mercy_n and_o free_a grace_n again_o the_o saint_n can_v plead_v their_o suffering_n though_o a_o man_n suffer_v never_o so_o much_o and_o suffer_v never_o so_o well_o and_o suffer_v upon_o a_o good_a ground_n and_o suffer_v for_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n yet_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o he_o can_v plead_v by_o way_n of_o merit_n for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n suffer_v without_o sin_n there_o be_v merit_n in_o christ_n suffering_n because_o he_o suffer_v and_o have_v no_o sin_n of_o his_o own_o he_o be_v the_o lamb_n of_o god_n without_o spot_n but_o now_o the_o best_a of_o saint_n upon_o earth_n who_o do_v suffer_v for_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n can_v suffer_v without_o sin_n though_o it_o be_v not_o punish_v for_o sin_n yet_o still_o there_o be_v sin_n in_o the_o person_n and_o so_o can_v be_v no_o desert_n and_o then_o beside_o it_o be_v that_o which_o the_o saint_n owe_v to_o chris_n as_o they_o owe_v all_o duty_n so_o they_o owe_v all_o suffering_n for_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o if_o they_o shall_v suffer_v a_o thousand_o time_n more_o than_o ever_o any_o man_n suffer_v it_o be_v but_o what_o they_o owe_v and_o therefore_o suffer_v can_v be_v plead_v no_o more_o than_o service_n and_o so_o you_o have_v the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o point_n but_o of_o the_o second_o part_n to_o speak_v more_o brief_o to_o that_o as_o a_o soul_n be_v take_v off_o of_o itself_o so_o it_o plead_v only_a mercy_n flee_v to_o free_a grace_n come_v to_o naked_a mercy_n first_o for_o a_o gracious_a heart_n it_o see_v and_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o fullness_n in_o mercy_n to_o satisfy_v all_o its_o want_n all_o its_o desire_n there_o be_v enough_o in_o mercy_n to_o make_v abundant_a supply_n to_o it_o as_o it_o see_v there_o be_v that_o in_o itself_o which_o may_v make_v it_o run_v from_o itself_o so_o there_o be_v that_o in_o mercy_n and_o free_a grace_n which_o may_v make_v it_o run_v to_o it_o as_o to_o a_o city_n of_o refuge_n there_o be_v a_o fullness_n in_o mercy_n which_o may_v answer_v the_o soul_n desire_n and_o want_n for_o as_o you_o hear_v before_o when_o the_o lord_n do_v discover_v to_o a_o man_n that_o he_o be_v a_o poor_a creature_n destitute_a and_o naked_a why_o the_o same_o spirit_n do_v discover_v that_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o mercy_n to_o supply_v all_o want_n mercy_n have_v make_v great_a provision_n for_o the_o poor_a naked_a destitute_a creature_n and_o as_o it_o discover_v to_o a_o soul_n that_o it_o be_v a_o sinful_a creature_n so_o the_o same_o spirit_n do_v discover_v that_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o mercy_n to_o take_v away_o all_o sin_n and_o pardon_v all_o transgression_n and_o mercy_n and_o free_a grace_n have_v set_v open_a a_o fountain_n a_o infinite_a fountain_n a_o bottomless_a fountain_n of_o merit_n in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o wash_n away_o of_o sin_n and_o as_o the_o soul_n see_v that_o it_o be_v a_o poor_a weak_a creature_n so_o the_o same_o spirit_n do_v discover_v to_o it_o that_o mercy_n be_v strong_a and_o mercy_n be_v able_a to_o reach_v he_o in_o every_o condition_n and_o able_a to_o lift_v he_o up_o in_o the_o low_a condition_n and_o as_o it_o see_v that_o it_o be_v a_o enemy_n to_o god_n so_o the_o same_o spirit_n do_v discover_v that_o mercy_n can_v reconcile_v it_o show_v what_o be_v do_v for_o the_o reconciliation_n of_o poor_a creature_n mercy_n have_v give_v jesus_n christ_n for_o to_o slay_v the_o enmity_n and_o to_o reconcile_v poor_a lose_v creature_n thus_o i_o say_v a_o gracious_a soul_n it_o will_v flee_v to_o mercy_n it_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o fullness_n in_o mercy_n to_o answer_v all_o its_o want_n second_o and_o as_o it_o see_v a_o fullness_n so_o there_o be_v a_o freeness_n in_o the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o therefore_o run_v to_o mercy_n as_o this_o woman_n do_v and_o plead_v mercy_n and_o to_o cast_v herself_o into_o the_o arm_n of_o mercy_n because_o free_a see_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v a_o tender_a heart_a god_n and_o that_o mercy_n fly_v free_o from_o he_o mercy_n make_v free_a invitation_n the_o soul_n see_v and_o hear_v that_o it_o be_v persuade_v to_o apply_v itself_o to_o mercy_n three_o such_o a_o soul_n will_v flee_v to_o mercy_n because_o it_o know_v that_o all_o that_o god_n do_v for_o his_o people_n in_o the_o business_n of_o salvation_n it_o be_v for_o the_o exaltation_n of_o mercy_n and_o free_a grace_n the_o great_a work_n of_o the_o redemption_n of_o soul_n it_o be_v only_o for_o the_o exaltation_n of_o mercy_n and_o free_a grace_n it_o be_v free_a grace_n that_o find_v out_o the_o way_n of_o redeem_v soul_n and_o free_a grace_n that_o give_v sinner_n to_o christ_n and_o free_a grace_n that_o give_v christ_n for_o sinner_n and_o free_a grace_n give_v christ_n unto_o sinner_n and_o all_o that_o god_n do_v in_o sanctify_v and_o save_v his_o people_n be_v upon_o the_o account_n of_o mercy_n and_o free_a grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n he_o invite_v soul_n to_o himself_o and_o he_o make_v choice_n of_o such_o as_o may_v most_o of_o all_o declare_v the_o
he_o to_o his_o own_o mother_n to_o be_v his_o nurse_n and_o she_o pay_v his_o own_o mother_n for_o he_o and_o so_o the_o lord_n he_o will_v deal_v with_o you_o that_o be_v parent_n that_o act_n in_o faith_n and_o perform_v your_o duty_n in_o faith_n the_o lord_n will_v reward_v you_o for_o your_o love_n to_o your_o own_o child_n for_o take_v care_n of_o your_o own_o child_n all_o your_o labour_n be_v take_v notice_n of_o by_o the_o lord_n and_o you_o shall_v be_v reward_v oh_o what_o a_o encourageis_n here_o to_o all_o parent_n to_o look_v after_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o so_o your_o service_n may_v be_v accept_v of_o the_o lord_n one_o thing_n more_o and_o so_o i_o conclude_v and_o that_o be_v a_o word_n to_o child_n be_v it_o so_o that_o there_o be_v so_o much_o love_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o parent_n to_o their_o child_n be_v there_o so_o much_o that_o parent_n do_v from_o love_n to_o child_n oh_o that_o child_n will_v labour_v to_o know_v what_o be_v their_o duty_n that_o they_o owe_v to_o parent_n it_o can_v be_v tell_v it_o can_v be_v express_v how_o much_o it_o be_v that_o child_n owe_v unto_o parent_n child_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o ever_o you_o shall_v requite_v the_o love_n of_o your_o parent_n oh_o the_o pain_n the_o travel_n and_o sorrow_n of_o bring_v forth_o and_o bring_v up_o oh_o that_o child_n may_v know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a engagement_n lie_v upon_o they_o to_o love_v their_o parent_n to_o respect_v their_o parent_n to_o take_v heed_n that_o they_o do_v not_o grieve_v their_o parent_n to_o pass_v by_o all_o in_o shall_v labour_v to_o requite_v your_o parent_n to_o remember_v their_o love_n their_o care_n their_o sorrow_n their_o pain_n and_o travel_n and_o you_o be_v bind_v by_o the_o law_n of_o christ_n to_o requite_v your_o parent_n this_o be_v good_a this_o be_v piety_n and_o this_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n and_o so_o that_o place_n levit._fw-la 19_o 3._o you_o shall_v fear_v every_o man_n his_o there_o be_v infinite_a bowel_n in_o the_o everlasting_a father_n and_o if_o there_o be_v so_o much_o pity_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o parent_n that_o they_o be_v willing_a and_o ready_a to_o give_v out_o good_a thing_n to_o their_o child_n and_o willing_a to_o pass_v by_o and_o to_o pardon_v the_o miscarriage_n of_o their_o child_n oh_o how_o much_o more_o willing_a be_v our_o god_n to_o pass_v not_o either_o they_o be_v none_o of_o his_o child_n or_o else_o under_o a_o sore_a temptation_n for_o let_v i_o say_v unto_o you_o that_o though_o it_o be_v not_o for_o your_o prayer_n that_o god_n do_v regard_n prayer_n yet_o if_o you_o do_v not_o look_v up_o for_o a_o answer_n if_o you_o do_v not_o regard_v your_o prayer_n neither_o will_n god_n regard_v your_o prayer_n and_o let_v i_o say_v further_o that_o this_o be_v a_o great_a dishonour_n to_o god_n oh_o what_o a_o 〈◊〉_d be_v it_o it_o be_v a_o loss_n to_o god_n and_o it_o be_v a_o loss_n also_o to_o the_o soul_n for_o a_o man_n to_o lose_v all_o his_o prayer_n it_o be_v a_o loss_n indeed_o when_o as_o a_o soul_n do_v not_o regard_n whether_o god_n answer_v or_o no_o god_n lose_v he_o lose_v that_o glory_n which_o will_v redound_v to_o he_o in_o the_o answer_n of_o prayer_n call_v upon_o i_o say_v god_n in_o the_o day_n of_o trouble_n and_o i_o will_v deliver_v thou_o and_o thou_o shall_v glorify_v i_o now_o if_o the_o soul_n call_v upon_o god_n and_o do_v not_o observe_v whether_o god_n hear_v or_o no_o it_o can_v glorify_v god_n for_o the_o return_n of_o prayer_n but_o god_n lose_v that_o honour_n that_o thankfulness_n poor_a tradesman_n in_o conclusion_n that_o soul_n that_o do_v not_o look_v after_o the_o return_n of_o prayer_n lose_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o faith_n and_o dependence_n and_o experience_n for_o god_n by_o give_v out_o a_o answer_n to_o the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n he_o do_v encourage_v they_o and_o engage_v they_o to_o trust_v in_o he_o at_o all_o time_n so_o long_o as_o they_o live_v they_o that_o lose_v the_o return_n of_o prayer_n lose_v the_o strengthen_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o engage_v of_o their_o heart_n to_o god_n but_o second_o let_v i_o speak_v to_o such_o poor_a soul_n as_o be_v in_o the_o same_o condition_n with_o this_o woman_n of_o canaan_n that_o have_v pray_v and_o have_v not_o meet_v with_o one_o word_n of_o answer_n poor_a soul_n be_v this_o the_o condition_n of_o any_o of_o you_o i_o know_v that_o it_o have_v be_v and_o may_v still_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o lord_n dear_a servant_n they_o may_v pray_v and_o the_o lord_n may_v seem_v to_o give_v no_o answer_n remember_v it_o be_v so_o with_o david_n jeremiah_n and_o habakkuk_n and_o with_o christ_n himself_o and_o let_v i_o say_v this_o unto_o thou_o that_o if_o thou_o regard_v any_o iniquity_n in_o thy_o heart_n any_o know_a sin_n that_o thou_o regard_v or_o connive_v at_o or_o if_o there_o be_v slightness_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o thy_o duty_n or_o content_a thyself_o with_o a_o slothful_a performance_n of_o thy_o duty_n or_o thou_o do_v not_o regard_v thy_o prayer_n when_o thou_o have_v put_v it_o up_o to_o the_o lord_n for_o this_o we_o have_v cause_n to_o be_v humble_v and_o no_o wonder_n the_o lord_n do_v not_o answer_v our_o prayer_n but_o now_o if_o thy_o own_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n can_v testify_v that_o thou_o desire_v to_o regard_v no_o iniquity_n in_o thy_o heart_n but_o to_o walk_v up_o to_o thy_o duty_n and_o desire_v to_o be_v conformable_a to_o christ_n and_o desire_v to_o cry_v in_o faith_n and_o to_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n for_o a_o answer_n be_v of_o good_a comfort_n
though_o thou_o do_v not_o meet_v with_o one_o word_n of_o answer_n from_o the_o lord_n though_o thou_o have_v cry_v night_n and_o day_n week_n month_n and_o year_n and_o have_v not_o meet_v with_o with_o one_o word_n of_o answer_n yet_o be_v comfort_v this_o may_v be_v the_o condition_n of_o god_n own_o people_n and_o let_v i_o say_v further_o by_o way_n of_o encouragement_n that_o the_o lord_n he_o extend_v much_o good_a to_o thou_o in_o this_o defer_v and_o delay_v to_o give_v out_o a_o answer_n it_o be_v for_o gracious_a and_o merciful_a end_n to_o thy_o soul_n that_o the_o lord_n do_v while_o thou_o have_v wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n there_o have_v be_v some_o secret_n hint_n of_o comfort_n that_o after_o thou_o have_v be_v before_o the_o lord_n thou_o have_v be_v at_o ease_n and_o thy_o trouble_n be_v not_o so_o great_a as_o it_o be_v hannah_n when_o she_o pour_v out_o her_o soul_n before_o the_o lord_n she_o be_v in_o great_a distress_n but_o before_o she_o go_v away_o the_o
