picture_n of_o the_o devil_n he_o can_v be_v a_o drunkard_n or_o adulterer_n but_o he_o can_v be_v proud_a and_o envious_a and_o malicious_a and_o contentious_a and_o self-seeking_a and_o vainglorious_a and_o in_o these_o we_o play_v the_o devil_n and_o therefore_o i_o say_v our_o mortification_n must_v be_v inward_a it_o must_v fall_v upon_o our_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a man_n of_o sin_n within_o we_o and_o therefore_o by_o mortification_n we_o understand_v not_o only_o corporal_a austerity_n such_o as_o affect_v the_o sense_n as_o maceration_n fasting_n and_o other_o external_a exercise_n which_o rob_v the_o sense_n of_o what_o be_v most_o agreeable_a to_o it_o which_o though_o they_o be_v good_a and_o sometime_o necessary_a yet_o be_v not_o the_o principal_a but_o we_o as_o be_v operate_v by_o the_o same_o principle_n and_o with_o the_o same_o disposition_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n herein_o appear_v the_o great_a difference_n between_o christian_a virtue_n and_o moral_a or_o humane_a a_o man_n that_o have_v refine_a principle_n and_o perfection_n and_o act_n according_a to_o they_o may_v be_v call_v good_a but_o a_o man_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n be_v a_o new_a creature_n and_o have_v another_o goodness_n a_o new_a goodness_n and_o his_o action_n be_v conformable_a to_o this_o new_a be_v and_o life_n to_o difference_n christian_n virtue_n from_o
