of_o sin_n and_o a_o thirst_a and_o long_v after_o righteousness_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v often_o find_v in_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n before_o such_o time_n as_o they_o receive_v this_o caline_z and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n by_o the_o full_a assurance_n of_o their_o salvation_n now_o to_o prove_v these_o to_o be_v the_o fruit_n and_o attendant_n of_o true_a faith_n the_o rather_o to_o qualify_v and_o allay_v the_o sharp_a and_o bitter_a combat_n of_o the_o trouble_a soul_n let_v we_o diligent_o consider_v first_n the_o principal_a efficient_a cause_n and_o worker_n of_o this_o sorrow_n and_o mourning_n which_o i_o speak_v of_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o regeneration_n and_o adoption_n for_o this_o cause_n the_o apostle_n call_v it_o a_o a_o one_o as_o he_o will_v not_o despise_v and_o how_o can_v this_o be_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v a_o thing_n so_o acceptable_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o so_o well_o accept_v of_o he_o if_o to_o walk_v in_o righteousness_n but_o now_o lest_o that_o in_o give_v sentence_n and_o judgement_n upon_o this_o sorrow_n we_o shall_v be_v deceive_v it_o be_v here_o again_o to_o be_v call_v to_o his_o original_n only_o from_o the_o law_n of_o god_n without_o any_o taste_n or_o touch_v of_o the_o gospel_n but_o that_o other_o sorrow_n which_o we_o use_v in_o this_o place_n as_o a_o mark_n of_o true_a repentance_n and_o which_o i_o account_v as_o the_o forerunner_n of_o repentance_n be_v only_o incident_a and_o do_v proper_o appertain_v to_o the_o elect_a and_o choose_a of_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v find_v to_o have_v a_o far_o further_a step_n than_o have_v the_o former_a and_o therefore_o lest_o we_o deceive_v ourselves_o herein_o as_o hypocrite_n often_o do_v let_v we_o in_o a_o word_n or_o two_o as_o brief_o as_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o difference_n betwixt_o these_o two_o kind_n of_o sorrow_n this_o counterfeit_a and_o hypocritical_a sorrow_n sorrow_n counterf_n it_o and_o hypocritical_a sorrow_n which_o as_o i_o say_v be_v find_v in_o hypocrite_n arise_v from_o the_o law_n and_o that_o only_a in_o consideration_n of_o the_o heavy_a and_o terrible_a judgement_n in_o the_o same_o denounce_v against_o the_o transgressor_n thereof_o and_o hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o they_o mourn_v and_o sigh_v only_o for_o that_o they_o see_v and_o perceive_v themselves_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o great_a sin_n and_o wiekedness_n by_o force_n and_o by_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o law_n to_o be_v bring_v into_o a_o dangerous_a or_o a_o damnable_a estate_n but_o as_o for_o the_o sin_n itself_o which_o by_o they_o be_v commit_v day_n by_o day_n although_o it_o be_v in_o the_o proper_a nature_n thereof_o never_o so_o filthy_a or_o abominable_a yet_o do_v they_o not_o mourn_v for_o it_o but_o remain_v still_o in_o they_o with_o as_o great_a love_n and_o take_v as_o great_a pleasure_n therein_o and_o have_v as_o great_a a_o desire_n to_o commit_v the_o same_o from_o have_v even_o this_o first_o mark_n of_o true_a repentance_n but_o it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o with_o the_o man_n regenerate_v regenerate_v difference_n betwixt_o the_o sorrow_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a and_o regenerate_v for_o although_o his_o sorrow_n begin_v in_o deed_n in_o the_o law_n for_o that_o thereby_o he_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n first_o of_o his_o sin_n and_o second_o of_o the_o heavy_a judgement_n by_o the_o law_n due_a unto_o the_o same_o yet_o do_v not_o his_o sorrow_n there_o stay_v and_o make_v a_o end_n but_o end_v indeed_o in_o the_o gospel_n and_o and_o although_o that_o this_o his_o sorrow_n in_o these_o respect_n be_v find_v and_o prove_v to_o be_v great_a yet_o be_v he_o not_o therein_o leave_v comfortless_a but_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o sorrow_n find_v comfort_n as_o shall_v appear_v hereafter_o again_o this_o sorrow_n proceed_v of_o the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o law_n bring_v forth_o desperation_n in_o the_o a_o kind_n and_o love_a father_n and_o therefore_o if_o at_o any_o time_n he_o afflict_v and_o chastise_v they_o they_o do_v and_o be_v bold_a to_o confess_v the_o same_o also_o that_o he_o do_v it_o another_o the_o interpretation_n of_o tongue_n and_o all_o these_o thing_n work_v even_o the_o self_n same_o spirit_n distribute_v to_o every_o man_n several_o as_o he_o will_n so_o that_o in_o nature_n and_o essence_n it_o be_v the_o same_o spirit_n that_o work_v in_o the_o distribution_n of_o all_o these_o gift_n both_o to_o the_o elect_a and_o also_o reprobate_n although_o the_o person_n and_o blood_n in_o her_o ordinary_a reach_n and_o capacity_n can_v never_o come_v or_o attain_v unto_o and_o therefore_o i_o do_v call_v this_o a_o supernatural_a kind_n of_o work_v which_o although_o by_o illumination_n and_o enlighten_v of_o the_o mind_n with_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o life_n and_o salvation_n whereby_o the_o mind_n be_v teach_v and_o instruct_v be_v only_o proper_a and_o peculiar_a unto_o the_o choose_a and_o elect_a of_o god_n they_o only_o be_v regenerate_v they_o only_o be_v in_o christ_n adopt_v and_o they_o and_o none_o but_o they_o be_v sanctify_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n for_o the_o resolution_n of_o this_o doubt_n let_v this_o suffice_v it_o come_v next_o to_o be_v consider_v of_o the_o true_a mark_n whereby_o this_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n may_v be_v discern_v and_o know_v how_o the_o elect_n may_v know_v this_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n to_o be_v in_o they_o and_o that_o witness_n and_o testimony_n that_o they_o feel_v in_o they_o to_o be_v the_o true_a testimony_n and_o witness_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n chap._n xxxiiii_o of_o the_o true_a mark_v whereby_o the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n may_v be_v know_v so_o lively_a and_o effectual_a and_o withal_o if_o thou_o find_v any_o such_o witness_n of_o thy_o election_n as_o have_v be_v before_o rouch_v thou_o be_v then_o to_o assure_v thyself_o that_o it_o be_v the_o witness_n of_o none_o other_o but_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n for_o as_o this_o spirit_n have_v once_o take_v possession_n in_o we_o can_v be_v idle_a and_o unfruitful_a but_o be_v always_o work_v in_o some_o measure_n more_o or_o less_o so_o neither_o will_n satan_n seek_v by_o such_o godly_a motion_n to_o deceive_v those_o that_o be_v true_o regenerate_v as_o he_o do_v the_o hypocrite_n and_o reprobate_n but_o take_v a_o far_o contrary_a course_n that_o be_v as_o much_o as_o in_o he_o lie_v or_o that_o he_o can_v or_o may_v to_o rebate_v and_o lessen_v such_o good_a motion_n and_o to_o falsify_v this_o undoubted_a and_o certain_a witness_n in_o they_o because_o he_o see_v they_o to_o be_v truth_n in_o deed_n otherwise_o he_o shall_v rather_o confirm_v then_o hinder_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n which_o be_v a_o thing_n clean_o contrary_a and_o against_o his_o nature_n for_o he_o be_v a_o a_o liar_n and_o the_o father_n of_o lie_n 8.44_o joh._n 8.44_o and_o can_v abide_v to_o speak_v the_o truth_n except_o it_o be_v to_o his_o own_o advantage_n he_o be_v a_o common_a ancient_a and_o a_o profess_a enemy_n of_o the_o elect_a and_o choose_a of_o god_n
