pluck_v away_o the_o cawl_n from_o their_o heart_n and_o then_o they_o will_v have_v none_o in_o heaven_n but_o christ_n nor_o in_o the_o earth_n in_o comparison_n of_o he_o and_o then_o the_o holy_a ghost_n convince_v they_o of_o this_o sin_n above_o all_o their_o other_o sin_n that_o they_o have_v not_o believe_v on_o jesus_n christ_n do_v not_o therefore_o censure_v any_o such_o as_o to_o say_v there_o be_v no_o likelihood_n that_o they_o shall_v have_v fellowship_n with_o christ_n for_o if_o the_o lord_n make_v they_o to_o fall_v down_o before_o he_o and_o to_o yield_v up_o their_o spirit_n question_n follow_v quest_n 1._o what_o be_v the_o first_o gift_n that_o ever_o the_o lord_n give_v unto_o his_o elect_n answ_n first_o of_o all_o he_o give_v himself_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o the_o holy_a spirit_n this_o be_v the_o foundation_n and_o if_o you_o shall_v lay_v save_v qualification_n in_o the_o foundation_n before_o these_o the_o foundation_n will_v lie_v uneasy_o unto_o all_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o covenant_n no_o other_o foundation_n but_o he_o take_v he_o first_o for_o he_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n give_v he_o take_v we_o by_o give_v we_o faith_n and_o we_o take_v he_o by_o exercise_v our_o faith_n on_o he_o object_n but_o whether_o do_v not_o the_o lord_n give_v we_o some_o save_a preparation_n before_o jesus_n christ_n for_o there_o be_v those_o that_o be_v gracious_a saint_n that_o have_v conceive_v that_o there_o be_v some_o gracious_a qualification_n which_o the_o lord_n give_v to_o prepare_v for_o jesus_n christ_n answ_n there_o be_v save_a grace_n which_o do_v sanctify_v we_o unto_o god_n our_o father_n but_o whether_o they_o do_v make_v way_n for_o jesus_n christ_n there_o prove_v a_o difference_n but_o you_o may_v discern_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o point_n if_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v any_o save_a qualification_n before_o christ_n than_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o salvation_n before_o christ_n and_o people_n be_v melt_v into_o flesh_n which_o will_v never_o return_v to_o his_o hardness_n more_o neither_o can_v they_o rest_v in_o any_o measure_n of_o softness_n unto_o which_o they_o have_v attain_v but_o still_o be_v carry_v towards_o jesus_n christ_n so_o that_o the_o one_o be_v a_o temporary_a faith_n and_o the_o other_o persever_v though_o both_o work_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n yet_o this_o difference_n will_v be_v find_v between_o they_o not_o only_a when_o hypocrite_n come_v to_o be_v blast_v but_o even_o in_o the_o midden_a of_o their_o profession_n as_o for_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v never_o precedent_n of_o its_o own_o power_n but_o his_o strength_n lie_v out_o of_o himself_o in_o christ_n whereas_o hypocrite_n and_o legal_a christian_n be_v confident_a of_o their_o faith_n that_o they_o can_v make_v use_n of_o it_o unto_o such_o and_o such_o end_n they_o think_v they_o need_v no_o more_o but_o look_v up_o to_o christ_n and_o their_o work_n be_v at_o a_o end_n and_o such_o strength_n they_o find_v in_o themselves_o as_o that_o they_o do_v not_o fear_v but_o that_o they_o shall_v carry_v a_o end_n all_o this_o to_o be_v true_a that_o there_o be_v no_o gift_n of_o christ_n nor_o no_o sanctification_n accompany_v salvation_n but_o it_o do_v knit_v we_o near_o and_o near_o unto_o christ_n and_o the_o more_o we_o be_v fill_v with_o true_a spiritual_a gift_n the_o more_o empty_a we_o be_v of_o our_o own_o strength_n and_o self_n conceit_n and_o so_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v otherwise_o we_o shall_v counterfeit_a for_o they_o be_v from_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o man_n may_v by_o they_o be_v very_o serviceable_a to_o church_n and_o commonweal_n but_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o the_o strong_a and_o the_o more_o your_o gift_n be_v if_o you_o sit_v loose_a from_o christ_n the_o empty_a your_o heart_n be_v of_o he_o but_o you_o will_v say_v may_v not_o a_o christian_a be_v full_a of_o himself_o and_o depend_v upon_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o own_o gift_n yes_o god_n forbid_v i_o shall_v deny_v that_o for_o the_o best_a christian_n have_v go_v astray_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o their_o best_a gift_n and_o hereupon_o abraham_n have_v be_v want_v in_o faith_n moses_n in_o meekness_n peter_n in_o courage_n and_o sarah_n in_o her_o modesty_n they_o have_v be_v so_o apt_a to_o trust_v upon_o those_o grace_n of_o god_n wherein_o they_o have_v most_o abound_v that_o they_o have_v principal_o fail_v therein_o but_o this_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o if_o they_o have_v be_v overtake_v once_o or_o twice_o as_o the_o burn_a child_n dread_v the_o fire_n so_o they_o grow_v to_o be_v more_o sensible_a of_o their_o need_n of_o christ_n more_o fearful_a of_o depart_v from_o he_o more_o careful_a to_o cleave_v unto_o he_o that_o they_o may_v grow_v up_o in_o his_o name_n unto_o all_o well_o please_v in_o his_o sight_n if_o therefore_o there_o be_v a_o sanctification_n that_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n in_o any_o man_n it_o be_v a_o great_a suspicion_n whether_o the_o gift_n thereof_o flow_v from_o fellowship_n with_o christ_n or_o no_o if_o gift_n be_v true_o spiritual_a a_o man_n shall_v usual_o grow_v up_o in_o they_o habenti_fw-la dabitur_fw-la employ_v they_o and_o multiply_v they_o but_o if_o you_o employ_v the_o gift_n you_o have_v
