know_v christ_n jesus_n and_o he_o be_v far_o to_o seek_v do_v therefore_o labour_v to_o cover_v his_o wickedness_n and_o sinfulness_n which_o now_o he_o feel_v by_o some_o of_o these_o figleaf_n they_o seek_v it_o not_o by_o faith_n but_o â—ought_v salvation_n by_o their_o own_o righteousness_n he_o that_o make_v flesh_n his_o arm_n as_o all_o duty_n and_o endeavour_n of_o man_n be_v when_o trust_v to_o the_o lord_n say_v curse_v be_v that_o man_n jer._n 17.5_o 6._o only_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o leave_v his_o elect_n here_o he_o that_o be_v marry_v unto_o the_o law_n rom._n 7._o can_v be_v match_v unto_o christ_n till_o he_o be_v first_o divorce_v not_o from_o the_o duty_n themselves_o but_o from_o trust_v to_o they_o and_o rest_v in_o they_o and_o therefore_o say_v paul_n 2.19_o i_o through_o the_o law_n be_o dead_a to_o it_o that_o i_o may_v live_v unto_o god_n he_o that_o trust_v to_o riches_n can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n no_o more_o than_o a_o camel_n please_v and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o such_o a_o soul_n as_o be_v unwilling_a to_o stoop_v be_v unhumble_v and_o he_o that_o be_v so_o do_v not_o only_o on_o his_o part_n resist_v god_n but_o the_o lord_n also_o resist_v he_o james_n 4.7_o 8._o and_o hence_o you_o shall_v observe_v many_o a_o one_o have_v lie_v long_o under_o distress_n of_o conscience_n because_o they_o have_v either_o rest_v in_o their_o duty_n which_o can_v not_o quiet_a or_o because_o they_o have_v not_o so_o cast_v off_o their_o confidence_n in_o they_o so_o as_o to_o lie_v down_o quiet_o before_o god_n that_o he_o may_v do_v what_o he_o will_v with_o they_o be_v so_o long_a object_n of_o god_n resistance_n not_o of_o his_o grace_n by_o what_o mean_n do_v the_o lord_n work_v this_o in_o general_n answ._n by_o the_o spirit_n immediate_o act_v upon_o the_o soul_n for_o after_o a_o christian_a be_v in_o christ_n he_o have_v by_o the_o habit_n of_o humility_n and_o the_o virtue_n of_o faith_n some_o power_n to_o humble_v himself_o but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n do_v it_o immediate_o by_o its_o own_o omnipotent_a hand_n else_o the_o proud_a heart_n will_v never_o down_o for_o we_o be_v
