know_v not_o that_o there_o be_v man_n send_v for_o he_o from_o cornelius_n until_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n tell_v he_o and_o reveal_v it_o to_o he_o so_o that_o he_o have_v not_o that_o knowledge_n which_o he_o have_v of_o secret_a thing_n not_o make_v know_v in_o a_o ordinary_a way_n by_o sense_n he_o have_v it_o not_o habitual_o but_o by_o several_a act_n or_o if_o they_o have_v such_o a_o the_o beginning_n who_o shall_v betray_v he_o yet_o he_o do_v admit_v he_o that_o he_o know_v will_v prove_v a_o devil_n and_o therefore_o he_o act_v therein_o according_a to_o his_o humanity_n and_o much_o heighten_v his_o love_n to_o christ_n again_o now_o remember_v this_o be_v not_o by_o any_o thing_n external_a external_a addition_n to_o a_o thing_n may_v make_v it_o appear_v the_o great_a but_o not_o real_o the_o great_a as_o a_o man_n clothes_n make_v he_o seem_v big_a than_o he_o be_v yet_o he_o be_v the_o same_o in_o they_o and_o out_o of_o they_o no_o big_a at_o all_o there_o be_v very_o great_a difference_n between_o a_o weight_n hang_v upon_o a_o clock_n the_o more_o weight_n the_o more_o the_o motion_n be_v hasten_v and_o a_o child_n that_o go_v but_o timerous_o and_o weak_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n within_o he_o prevail_v that_o he_o can_v run_v fast_o and_o so_o grow_v in_o stature_n and_o agility_n there_o be_v much_o difference_n &_o so_o there_o be_v much_o difference_n between_o a_o hypocrite_n grow_v in_o appearance_n in_o duty_n in_o service_n in_o zeal_n which_o appear_v to_o we_o for_o we_o can_v but_o judge_v the_o root_n by_o the_o fruit_n therefore_o we_o think_v they_o be_v grow_v there_o but_o all_o this_o while_o be_v mistake_v for_o it_o be_v not_o the_o root_n of_o the_o matter_n within_o it_o be_v some_o external_a weight_n and_o that_o be_v hang_v upon_o their_o affection_n some_o by-respect_n or_o another_o to_o their_o credit_n their_o profit_n their_o kingdom_n as_o jehu_n that_o set_v they_o a_o work_n so_o fast_o more_o than_o before_o there_o be_v great_a difference_n between_o such_o a_o one_o and_o a_o child_n of_o god_n such_o as_o david_n who_o heart_n be_v perfect_a who_o from_o the_o inward_a revelation_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o discovery_n of_o his_o love_n teach_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o quickning_n they_o grow_v up_o more_o and_o more_o there_o be_v much_o difference_n i_o say_v but_o this_o be_v the_o second_o i_o be_o afraid_a i_o shall_v be_v too_o tedious_a herein_o yet_o i_o hope_v this_o will_v not_o be_v unuseful_a to_o make_v thing_n as_o plain_a as_o i_o can_v as_o we_o go_v that_o much_o increase_v as_o a_o child_n and_o a_o man_n he_o be_v the_o same_o person_n when_o a_o babe_n and_o when_o a_o man_n only_o he_o be_v much_o increase_v by_o a_o continual_a nourishment_n so_o it_o be_v here_o a_o man_n grace_n be_v the_o same_o the_o same_o habit_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o love_n but_o grow_v much_o strong_a as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o thomas_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o disciple_n you_o see_v it_o it_o be_v the_o same_o that_o be_v a_o tender_a plant_n and_o now_o be_v become_v a_o strong_a oak_n or_o cedar_n only_o now_o it_o be_v more_o root_v then_o before_o and_o grow_v up_o and_o spread_v itself_o though_o a_o child_n of_o god_n have_v many_o shake_n with_o contrary_a wind_n temptation_n and_o false_a doctrine_n and_o sometime_o his_o knowledge_n may_v be_v corrupt_v and_o sometime_o his_o faith_n may_v be_v shake_v yet_o i_o believe_v he_o be_v never_o pluck_v up_o by_o the_o root_n and_o then_o plant_v again_o when_o once_o he_o have_v receive_v that_o grace_n and_o obtain_v that_o mercy_n to_o be_v faithful_a to_o believe_v and_o have_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n implant_v in_o the_o soul_n these_o be_v never_o destroy_v altogether_o once_o alive_a to_o god_n and_o that_o life_n never_o fail_v because_o the_o principle_n the_o fountain_n of_o it_o that_o feed_v it_o never_o fail_v the_o seed_n of_o god_n abide_v as_o the_o apostle_n say_v it_o be_v true_a there_o may_v be_v sickness_n and_o weakness_n and_o wound_n and_o distemper_n that_o may_v 14._o hinder_v the_o growth_n of_o a_o child_n but_o yet_o he_o live_v and_o grow_v afterward_o again_o yea_o more_o than_o he_o do_v before_o haply_o and_o this_o be_v the_o case_n and_o though_o david_n and_o peter_n break_v their_o bone_n though_o they_o be_v sore_o shake_v yet_o they_o be_v not_o pluck_v up_o by_o the_o root_n as_o tree_n dead_a and_o so_o plant_v again_o nor_o do_v any_o grace_n of_o god_n plant_n wither_v away_o altogether_o like_o jonah_n gourd_n the_o reason_n that_o be_v give_v for_o the_o wither_v away_o of_o some_o of_o the_o corn_n that_o 21._o be_v green_a be_v because_o it_o have_v not_o root_v this_o the_o three_o four_o another_o consideration_n to_o make_v out_o further_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o growth_n be_v this_o there_o must_v first_o be_v a_o life_n before_o there_o be_v a_o growth_n either_o vegetative_a or_o sensitive_a or_o rational_a you_o know_v if_o there_o be_v no_o life_n in_o the_o tree_n if_o it_o have_v not_o a_o root_n alive_a to_o maintain_v it_o it_o grow_v not_o at_o all_o stand_v at_o the_o same_o stay_n for_o proportion_n and_o grow_v dry_a indeed_o and_o rot_a and_o fit_a for_o burn_v and_o so_o there_o must_v be_v life_n in_o a_o man_n before_o he_o grow_v when_o he_o be_v dead_a all_o growth_n cease_v there_o be_v nothing_o but_o dissolution_n upon_o dissolution_n then_o and_o so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n there_o must_v be_v a_o root_n a_o plant_n into_o christ_n a_o graft_n into_o he_o by_o his_o engraft_a word_n before_o we_o can_v grow_v up_o in_o he_o we_o must_v be_v one_o with_o christ_n for_o 21._o you_o know_v that_o which_o have_v no_o root_n wither_v it_o may_v make_v a_o show_n for_o a_o time_n and_o flourish_n even_o as_o the_o grass_n upon_o the_o house_n top_n but_o it_o wither_v before_o it_o grow_v up_o paul_n may_v plant_v and_o apollo_n 6._o may_v water_v but_o it_o be_v he_o the_o lord_n that_o give_v the_o increase_n he_o that_o minister_v seed_n to_o the_o sower_n both_o minister_n bread_n for_o your_o food_n and_o multiply_v 10._o your_o seed_n sow_v and_o increase_v the_o fruit_n of_o your_o righteousness_n now_o this_o he_o do_v in_o and_o through_o christ_n for_o he_o be_v the_o only_a pipe_n through_o which_o grace_n be_v convey_v to_o we_o as_o thing_n here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v to_o make_v this_o out_o full_o first_o that_o all_o the_o nourishment_n be_v from_o christ_n as_o the_o breast-milk_n be_v from_o the_o mother_n that_o bring_v it_o forth_o so_o it_o be_v with_o we_o in_o 11._o respect_n of_o christ_n he_o travel_v his_o soul_n travel_v with_o we_o he_o
that_o be_v up_o and_o do_v thou_o find_v thy_o faith_n be_v weak_a it_o may_v be_v thou_o can_v scarce_o call_v it_o any_o thing_n but_o unbelief_n labour_v to_o act_v it_o put_v it_o forth_o often_o often_o be_v roll_a thyself_o and_o thy_o burden_n poor_a burden_a soul_n upon_o the_o lord_n jesus_n cast_v thyself_o upon_o he_o and_o thou_o shall_v find_v as_o much_o rest_n in_o it_o for_o the_o present_a so_o also_o a_o increase_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o feel_n also_o that_o thou_o do_v believe_v after_o a_o time_n and_o so_o for_o other_o thing_n alas_o be_v there_o a_o day_n that_o go_v over_o our_o head_n but_o there_o be_v use_v for_o faith_n it_o be_v the_o very_a life_n of_o a_o christian_a the_o life_n i_o now_o live_v i_o live_v by_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o 20._o son_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o as_o much_o need_n of_o the_o exercise_n of_o it_o daily_o as_o of_o any_o vital_a act_n whatsoever_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v you_o have_v occasion_n for_o it_o either_o some_o temptation_n from_o your_o own_o heart_n some_o corruption_n stir_v and_o disquiet_v your_o peace_n or_o some_o scourge_n from_o without_o some_o buffet_n of_o satan_n some_o deadness_n and_o their_o trade_n with_o it_o and_o it_o grow_v and_o true_o i_o be_o persuade_v it_o be_v the_o great_a reason_n we_o be_v many_o of_o we_o so_o weak_a as_o we_o be_v we_o lie_v complain_v and_o make_v sad_a moan_n before_o the_o lord_n of_o our_o weakness_n and_o yet_o be_v careless_a in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o grace_n wherein_o we_o pretend_v we_o will_v grow_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o slothful_a kill_v he_o for_o his_o hand_n refuse_v to_o labour_n 25._o we_o may_v mourn_v ourselves_o away_o off_o our_o leg_n and_o spend_v our_o day_n in_o lamentable_a complain_n and_o shall_v never_o be_v the_o better_a except_o we_o put_v forth_o into_o act_n what_o we_o have_v already_o receive_v if_o we_o be_v not_o faithful_a in_o trade_v with_o a_o little_a will_v he_o give_v we_o they_o do_v one_o strengthen_v another_o the_o act_n of_o our_o grace_n do_v as_o i_o may_v say_v cooperate_v and_o sweet_o conspire_v to_o the_o promote_a one_o of_o another_o that_o be_v to_o say_v of_o the_o act_n and_o these_o act_n than_o strengthen_v the_o habit_n as_o for_o instance_n you_o see_v in_o a_o arch_n one_o stone_n strengthen_v another_o take_v away_o one_o of_o they_o and_o all_o the_o rest_n be_v ready_a to_o fall_v upon_o your_o head_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v so_o earnest_o that_o they_o shall_v add_v to_o faith_n temperance_n etc._n etc._n not_o as_o if_o they_o can_v add_v 12._o one_o habit_n to_o another_o for_o they_o be_v infuse_v together_o but_o the_o act_n be_v to_o be_v add_v one_o to_o another_o for_o if_o you_o do_v these_o thing_n say_v the_o apostle_n than_o you_o shall_v not_o be_v barren_a nor_o unfruitful_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n yea_o you_o shall_v never_o fall_v yea_o you_o shall_v have_v a_o abundant_a entrance_n into_o the_o everlasting_a kingdom_n the_o strength_n of_o a_o building_n you_o know_v lie_v not_o in_o the_o strength_n of_o one_o piece_n but_o in_o the_o due_a exercise_v all_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n we_o have_v already_o receive_v not_o only_a faith_n nor_o only_a love_n nor_o only_a humility_n nor_o only_a self-denial_n but_o all_o labour_v to_o act_v they_o all_o and_o temperance_n and_o heavenly-mindedness_a etc._n etc._n and_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o as_o each_o grace_n do_v grow_v by_o the_o exercise_v of_o itself_o so_o by_o the_o exercise_v of_o they_o all_o they_o will_v have_v a_o mutual_a influence_n each_o upon_o the_o other_o to_o strengthen_v one_o another_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n will_v strengthen_v the_o act_n of_o love_n and_o that_o will_v strengthen_v faith_n again_o and_o so_o for_o the_o rest_n three_o if_o you_o will_v grow_v in_o grace_n you_o must_v be_v much_o in_o prayer_n for_o a_o man_n of_o much_o prayer_n be_v a_o man_n of_o much_o grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o prophet_n put_v they_o both_o together_o he_o will_v pour_v out_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o supplication_n 10._o and_o so_o be_v dry_v up_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v parch_v and_o burn_v up_o with_o the_o scorch_a heat_n of_o the_o displeasure_n of_o god_n o_o when_o the_o lord_n set_v a_o soul_n in_o his_o sight_n and_o look_n upon_o he_o as_o a_o consume_a fire_n with_o his_o eye_n as_o a_o flame_a fire_n ready_a with_o a_o 4._o sight_n of_o he_o to_o devour_v he_o and_o he_o can_v get_v out_o of_o his_o sight_n o_o to_o all_o that_o whosoever_o be_v wound_v though_o never_o so_o desperate_o whosoever_o be_v sick_a unto_o the_o death_n one_o of_o the_o stone_n another_o of_o the_o gout_n another_o of_o the_o plague_n i_o will_v cure_v you_o all_o o_o then_o if_o poor_a creature_n do_v believe_v this_o be_v persuade_v of_o it_o they_o will_v come_v and_o not_o before_o o_o say_v one_o i_o be_v a_o plague_n
