antinomian_o what_o they_o shall_v be_v it_o be_v one_o that_o be_v against_o the_o law_n that_o be_v the_o signification_n of_o the_o greek_a word_n now_o the_o question_n be_v who_o be_v most_o against_o the_o law_n of_o god_n i_o do_v not_o deny_v but_o there_o be_v some_o and_o they_o may_v be_v call_v antinomian_o though_o we_o shall_v not_o miscall_v people_n yet_o they_o deserve_v it_o but_o now_o a_o saint_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n he_o be_v not_o a_o antinomian_a he_o be_v not_o against_o the_o law_n because_o he_o have_v satisfy_v the_o law_n every_o man_n must_v pay_v the_o law_n and_o they_o that_o will_v fulfil_v the_o law_n with_o their_o own_o righteousness_n they_o do_v the_o law_n wrong_n they_o that_o do_v most_o here_o and_o they_o that_o suffer_v most_o in_o hell_n they_o can_v never_o satisfy_v the_o law_n but_o a_o christian_n have_v satisfy_v the_o law_n because_o he_o have_v give_v it_o a_o perfect_a righteousness_n now_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v owe_v ten_o thousand_o pound_n and_o he_o have_v but_o fifty_o shilling_n a_o year_n come_v in_o and_o it_o may_v be_v one_o year_n he_o pay_v ten_o shilling_n another_o year_n he_o pay_v a_o noble_a and_o none_o that_o satisfy_v the_o law_n so_o roundly_o and_o fulfil_v it_o so_o perfect_o as_o he_o that_o relinquish_v all_o that_o be_v in_o he_o and_o lay_n hold_v on_o jesus_n christ_n and_o in_o he_o pay_v god_n to_o a_o farthing_n therefore_o when_o paul_n be_v prove_v strong_o that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o christ_n and_o not_o by_o the_o law_n say_v he_o we_o take_v not_o away_o the_o law_n his_o daughter_n just_a like_o he_o in_o our_o wisdom_n and_o understanding_n and_o body_n and_o soul_n poor_a earthly_a creature_n natural_a frail_a creature_n we_o be_v and_o by_o that_o curse_n that_o be_v lay_v upon_o he_o we_o must_v all_o die_v and_o lay_v down_o these_o earthly_a tabernacle_n these_o earthly_a creature_n must_v be_v dissolve_v as_o we_o have_v bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o earthly_a not_o only_o as_o we_o have_v bear_v the_o image_n of_o old_a adam_n sin_n and_o wickedness_n and_o pride_n and_o frowardness_n so_o now_o we_o shall_v bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o new_a not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o grace_n and_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n that_o if_o i_o be_v in_o he_o all_o those_o corruption_n of_o nature_n shall_v out_o and_o i_o shall_v have_v a_o new_a nature_n that_o be_v true_a but_o that_o be_v not_o all_o but_o as_o i_o whole_o bear_v the_o image_n and_o shape_n of_o old_a adam_n his_o body_n and_o soul_n and_o sense_n and_o all_o those_o must_v die_v so_o when_o these_o body_n shall_v be_v raise_v we_o shall_v as_o absolute_o and_o large_o bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o new_a adam_n the_o lord_n jesus_n in_o our_o body_n &_o sense_n and_o all_o our_o whole_a man_n soul_n and_o body_n in_o respect_n of_o substance_n as_o well_o as_o quality_n we_o shall_v bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o second_o adam_n as_o lively_a and_o in_o as_o large_a a_o extent_n as_o ever_o we_o bear_v the_o image_n of_o the_o earthly_a adam_n therefore_o that_o be_v a_o great_a comfort_n i_o will_v tell_v you_o why_o because_o it_o be_v not_o only_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o a_o christian_n that_o trouble_v he_o but_o his_o earthiness_n so_o many_o distemper_n and_o trouble_n that_o it_o be_v a_o
every_o regiment_n in_o every_o company_n that_o seek_v themselves_o there_o be_v but_o few_o that_o be_v otherwise_o there_o be_v but_o few_o that_o natural_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n and_o that_o you_o may_v see_v what_o a_o fearful_a thing_n it_o be_v that_o you_o may_v look_v to_o iâ—_n you_o shall_v see_v in_o chap_n 3._o 18._o for_o many_o walk_n of_o who_o i_o have_v tell_v you_o often_o and_o now_o tell_v you_o weep_v and_o so_o in_o 2_o cor._n 12._o belove_a i_o do_v not_o read_v that_o paul_n do_v write_v weep_v to_o the_o church_n about_o any_o thing_n but_o about_o this_o and_o what_o be_v it_o he_o weep_v for_o they_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n they_o be_v not_o profane_a man_n but_o professor_n who_o end_n be_v destruction_n who_o mind_n earthly_a thing_n who_o belly_n be_v their_o god_n who_o be_v they_o who_o mind_n earthly_a thing_n who_o belly_n be_v their_o god_n they_o do_v not_o fall_v down_o on_o their_o knee_n and_o worship_v their_o belly_n but_o they_o be_v such_o as_o do_v take_v more_o care_n and_o pain_n for_o their_o belly_n and_o do_v rise_v early_o to_o look_v after_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n then_o after_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o their_o end_n be_v destruction_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o profession_n and_o you_o shall_v know_v they_o by_o this_o they_o mind_n earthly_a thing_n but_o our_o scarce_o i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v what_o a_o fearful_a thing_n it_o be_v and_o how_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v it_o out_o here_o that_o their_o end_n be_v destruction_n and_o paul_n speak_v of_o it_o weep_v therefore_o let_v it_o be_v thy_o work_n now_o to_o look_v to_o thy_o mind_n though_o thou_o profess_v to_o be_v a_o saint_n whether_o it_o be_v natural_a for_o thou_o to_o care_n for_o thyself_o but_o to_o do_v for_o god_n but_o now_o and_o then_o and_o it_o may_v be_v after_o many_o persuasion_n thou_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o do_v something_o for_o god_n and_o for_o the_o people_n of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o thou_o to_o look_v to_o thy_o self_n and_o to_o thy_o own_o honour_n and_o thy_o own_o place_n and_o preferment_n etc._n etc._n the_o lord_n help_v thou_o to_o look_v to_o this_o sermon_n viii_o rom._n 8._o 5._o for_o they_o that_o be_v after_o the_o flesh_n do_v mind_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o they_o that_o be_v after_o the_o spirit_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n i_o have_v speak_v of_o these_o word_n in_o general_n and_o â—ow_o i_o will_v according_a to_o the_o strength_n that_o god_n shall_v give_v i_o speak_v of_o they_o a_o little_a in_o particular_a that_o see_v those_o that_o enjoy_v this_o great_a privilege_n to_o have_v the_o law_n fulfil_v in_o they_o be_v those_o that_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o spirit_n that_o we_o may_v find_v whether_o we_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n or_o after_o the_o spirit_n i_o will_v urge_v it_o a_o little_a further_o and_o that_o according_a to_o the_o apostle_n method_n he_o pitch_v upon_o the_o mind_n and_o the_o mind_n not_o simple_o consider_v but_o as_o it_o be_v act_v and_o set_v forth_o the_o mind_n in_o mind_v therefore_o as_o he_o take_v the_o chief_a faculty_n to_o judge_v the_o rest_n by_o so_o i_o will_v take_v the_o chief_a act_n in_o that_o faculty_n that_o so_o you_o may_v judge_v of_o the_o rest_n by_o that_o one_o and_o so_o keep_v to_o the_o apostle_n method_n now_o the_o chief_a act_n of_o the_o mind_n doubtless_o be_v the_o reason_a part_n of_o the_o mind_n there_o be_v many_o act_n in_o the_o mind_n as_o it_o understand_v it_o think_v it_o imagine_v but_o especial_o the_o reason_a part_n it_o belong_v to_o the_o mind_n to_o reason_n concern_v thing_n and_o reason_n be_v the_o chief_a part_n and_o be_v call_v and_o account_v by_o scholar_n the_o chief_a part_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o they_o say_v that_o man_n be_v a_o reasonable_a creature_n now_o i_o say_v if_o we_o will_v find_v ouâ—_n by_o the_o scripture_n what_o we_o be_v whether_o we_o be_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n or_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n for_o there_o be_v the_o hinge_n of_o it_o we_o must_v examine_v it_o by_o the_o mind_n and_o not_o by_o the_o mind_n simple_o as_o it_o be_v a_o faculty_n but_o the_o mind_n act_v and_o exercise_v and_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o exercise_n let_v we_o take_v the_o reason_a part_n of_o it_o that_o be_v the_o best_a part_n for_o of_o all_o the_o act_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o reason_n be_v the_o strong_a and_o that_o that_o most_o immediate_o flow_v from_o the_o understanding_n therefore_o if_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v carnal_a the_o whole_a soul_n be_v so_o and_o if_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o be_v spiritual_a the_o whole_a soul_n be_v spiritual_a that_o be_v one_o thing_n that_o do_v move_v i_o to_o pitch_v upon_o that_o it_o be_v the_o chief_a beside_o i_o find_v that_o the_o apostle_n in_o 1_o cor._n 5._o 16._o he_o distinguish_v those_o that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n from_o those_o that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n by_o the_o reason_a part_n for_o say_v he_o henceforth_o know_v we_o no_o man_n after_o the_o flesh_n yea_o though_o we_o have_v know_v christ_n after_o the_o flesh_n yet_o now_o henceforth_o know_v we_o he_o no_o more_o we_o do_v not_o say_v he_o henceforth_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n and_o we_o know_v it_o by_o our_o knowledge_n we_o do_v know_v thing_n not_o according_a to_o the_o flesh_n but_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n if_o christ_n himself_o be_v here_o we_o will_v not_o look_v upon_o he_o with_o a_o fleshly_a eye_n what_o this_o knowledge_n be_v you_o may_v see_v in_o the_o verse_n before_o for_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n constrain_v we_o because_o we_o thus_o judge_v we_o thus_o reason_n that_o if_o one_o die_v for_o all_o then_o be_v all_o dead_a and_o that_o he_o die_v for_o all_o that_o they_o which_o live_v shall_v not_o henceforth_o live_v unto_o themselves_o but_o unto_o he_o which_o die_v for_o they_o and_z rise_v again_z we_o know_v say_v he_o that_o we_o be_v spiritual_a and_o not_o fleshly_a by_o our_o judge_n of_o thing_n by_o our_o reason_n of_o thing_n for_o thus_o we_o judge_v or_o thus_o we_o reason_n that_o if_o one_o die_v for_o all_o that_o be_v do_v die_v for_o all_o then_o sure_o we_o all_o be_v dead_a and_o we_o reason_n further_o that_o if_o one_o man_n do_v die_v for_o we_o and_o we_o be_v suffer_v to_o live_v we_o shall_v employ_v our_o life_n not_o for_o ourselves_o but_o for_o he_o that_o die_v for_o we_o this_o kind_n of_o reason_v we_o have_v that_o walk_n after_o the_o spirit_n and_o not_o after_o the_o flesh_n therefore_o i_o will_v pitch_v upon_o that_o and_o the_o rather_o because_o the_o lord_n have_v be_v please_v for_o end_n best_o know_v to_o he_o to_o keep_v that_o in_o my_o mind_n and_o to_o six_o it_o so_o on_o my_o thought_n that_o i_o can_v not_o pass_v it_o by_o and_o i_o usual_o judge_v in_o such_o case_n that_o god_n do_v often_o do_v it_o for_o your_o sake_n and_o therefore_o according_a to_o this_o method_n we_o shall_v observe_v this_o doctrine_n or_o this_o lesson_n doct_n that_o those_o that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n or_o that_o walk_n according_a to_o the_o flesh_n be_v sway_v and_o guide_v by_o fleshly_a reason_n and_o those_o that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n be_v sway_v and_o rule_v by_o spiritual_a reason_n true_a gospel_n believer_n be_v rule_v and_o sway_v with_o spiritual_a reason_n and_o all_o carnal_a fleshly_a man_n be_v rule_v by_o carnal_a fleshly_a reason_n for_o such_o as_o the_o mind_n be_v so_o be_v the_o whole_a man_n and_o if_o your_o reason_n be_v right_o than_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o all_o the_o act_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v right_a for_o that_o be_v the_o chief_a you_o may_v judge_v of_o all_o the_o act_n of_o your_o mind_n by_o your_o reason_n and_o therefore_o we_o cull_v out_o that_o for_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o rest_n i_o say_v carnal_a man_n be_v sway_v
that_o our_o soul_n may_v feed_v upon_o first_o that_o the_o law_n require_v of_o every_o man_n a_o righteousness_n to_o fulfil_v it_o or_o that_o every_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o get_v he_o a_o righteousness_n to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n every_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o be_v one_o thing_n the_o second_o lesson_n will_v be_v this_o that_o the_o law_n be_v perfect_o fulfil_v or_o satisfy_v in_o all_o true_a believer_n and_o three_o that_o all_o those_o that_o be_v true_a believer_n or_o that_o have_v these_o privilege_n they_o be_v those_o that_o walk_v not_o according_a to_o the_o flesh_n but_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n these_o be_v the_o three_o lesson_n i_o shall_v speak_v of_o i_o say_v first_o the_o law_n require_v a_o i_o shall_v but_o touch_v they_o reas_n 1._o because_o that_o god_n make_v man_n man_n be_v his_o creature_n and_o the_o lord_n be_v his_o sovereign_n and_o when_o god_n make_v all_o creature_n you_o know_v he_o make_v law_n for_o they_o he_o make_v a_o law_n for_o the_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n etc._n etc._n and_o every_o thing_n go_v according_a to_o the_o law_n that_o god_n determine_v for_o it_o now_o when_o god_n make_v man_n who_o be_v but_o his_o creature_n though_o he_o be_v a_o more_o excellent_a creature_n he_o make_v a_o law_n for_o he_o this_o bless_a law_n of_o god_n which_o be_v in_o his_o book_n here_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n as_o it_o be_v sometime_o call_v therefore_o as_o all_o other_o creature_n be_v bind_v to_o go_v in_o their_o course_n and_o keep_v their_o peculiar_a law_n that_o god_n lay_v on_o they_o so_o man_n also_o be_v bind_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o god_n make_v for_o he_o reas_n 2._o another_o thing_n be_v this_o that_o beside_o the_o sovereignty_n of_o god_n that_o may_v impose_v a_o law_n upon_o he_o there_o be_v second_o a_o compact_a between_o god_n &_o man_n and_o so_o there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o bargain_n for_o god_n lay_v that_o law_n upon_o man_n and_o adam_n as_o a_o public_a person_n he_o undertake_v to_o keep_v that_o law_n by_o a_o contract_n or_o bargain_n if_o god_n as_o it_o be_v have_v have_v no_o right_a before_o to_o lay_v it_o on_o he_o yet_o now_o man_n undertake_v it_o by_o way_n of_o bargain_n to_o keep_v the_o law_n of_o god_n adam_n first_o do_v it_o and_o may_v have_v do_v it_o and_o afterward_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n profess_v to_o do_v it_o all_o these_o word_n we_o will_v do_v we_o will_v keep_v they_o that_o be_v another_o reason_n whereby_o it_o appear_v that_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n be_v bind_v to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n reas_n 3._o another_o thing_n be_v this_o if_o you_o consider_v what_o there_o be_v that_o may_v free_v a_o man_n from_o keep_v a_o law_n that_o be_v lay_v upon_o he_o you_o shall_v see_v that_o there_o be_v none_o of_o those_o thing_n that_o can_v help_v he_o in_o this_o as_o first_o of_o all_o our_o law_n many_o time_n be_v repeal_v and_o that_o law_n that_o a_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o keep_v a_o few_o year_n ago_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o protest_v against_o now_o as_o the_o service-book_n the_o common-prayer_n etc._n etc._n there_o be_v that_o penalty_n now_o for_o use_v it_o as_o there_o be_v for_o not_o use_v it_o a_o few_o year_n since_o now_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o law_n of_o god_n heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v pass_v away_o but_o one_o jot_n or_o tittle_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v not_o pass_v that_o law_n be_v a_o eternal_a law_n there_o be_v no_o repeal_n of_o it_o then_o second_o you_o know_v judge_n and_o lawgiver_n among_o man_n may_v be_v corrupt_v and_o bribe_v and_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o dispense_v with_o their_o own_o law_n nay_o sometime_o to_o go_v against_o their_o own_o law_n but_o god_n be_v a_o just_a god_n and_o when_o his_o own_o son_n the_o son_n of_o his_o love_n do_v take_v upon_o he_o to_o be_v bear_v under_o the_o law_n and_o to_o be_v a_o surety_n for_o man_n he_o endure_v the_o smart_n of_o the_o law_n and_o be_v deal_v with_o as_o if_o he_o have_v be_v another_o then_o three_o there_o be_v no_o evasion_n or_o escape_v among_o man_n there_o be_v if_o a_o man_n break_v the_o law_n and_o go_v into_o another_o country_n he_o be_v clear_a and_o free_a but_o here_o be_v no_o escape_v one_o can_v go_v away_o whither_o shall_v i_o go_v from_o thy_o presence_n say_v david_n psal_n 139._o where_o shall_v i_o hide_v myself_o from_o thou_o a_o man_n can_v go_v no_o where_n but_o the_o law_n of_o god_n will_v be_v on_o he_o so_o that_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n be_v still_o bind_v to_o fulfil_v the_o whole_a law_n of_o god_n or_o to_o get_v a_o righteousness_n a_o perfect_a righteousness_n to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n of_o god_n now_o there_o be_v but_o three_o way_n in_o the_o world_n to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n first_o either_o a_o man_n must_v do_v it_o in_o his_o own_o person_n as_o most_o man_n do_v beside_o papist_n more_o or_o less_o they_o will_v go_v and_o do_v their_o best_a and_o do_v the_o good_a leave_v the_o evil_a and_o perform_v duty_n and_o they_o think_v by_o their_o do_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n or_o else_o second_o by_o suffer_v that_o be_v partly_o in_o this_o world_n and_o afterward_o in_o hell_n for_o that_o be_v the_o business_n of_o hell_n for_o hell_n be_v nothing_o but_o the_o place_n where_o people_n be_v fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n what_o do_v cain_n and_o other_o wretch_n do_v in_o hell_n they_o be_v pay_v the_o debt_n fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o eternity_n by_o suffering_n because_o they_o do_v not_o fulfil_v it_o by_o do_v while_o they_o be_v here_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o they_o be_v in_o hell_n for_o ever_o because_o they_o can_v never_o pay_v the_o debt_n therefore_o they_o must_v abide_v there_o for_o ever_o for_o if_o it_o can_v be_v suppose_v that_o they_o can_v give_v a_o complete_a righteousness_n that_o may_v satisfy_v the_o law_n they_o shall_v stay_v in_o prison_n no_o long_o they_o shall_v be_v in_o hell_n no_o more_o then_o three_o there_o be_v another_o glorious_a way_n that_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n jesus_n christ_n he_o have_v keep_v the_o law_n and_o perfect_o fulfil_v it_o now_o a_o man_n by_o believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o by_o be_v unite_v to_o he_o and_o marry_v to_o fulfil_v the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n by_o your_o own_o do_n belove_a it_o be_v a_o great_a matter_n to_o bring_v poor_a sinner_n to_o be_v awaken_v to_o see_v their_o sin_n or_o to_o break_v off_o their_o course_n in_o sin_n for_o there_o be_v many_o drunkard_n and_o swearer_n and_o jeerer_n of_o religion_n and_o prophaner_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n that_o sit_v as_o sot_n all_o the_o year_n and_o be_v never_o awaken_v but_o general_o when_o man_n be_v awaken_v out_o of_o their_o sin_n this_o be_v the_o resolution_n of_o all_o mankind_n of_o every_o man_n none_o except_v unless_o god_n have_v mercy_n on_o he_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v i_o see_v i_o be_o in_o a_o damnable_a way_n and_o thâ—s_a course_n will_v bring_v i_o to_o hell_n by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n of_o god_n he_o faith_n not_o by_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n though_o that_o be_v true_a there_o be_v infinite_a mercy_n but_o say_v he_o that_o god_n may_v declare_v his_o righteousness_n in_o christ_n to_o save_v we_o it_o be_v a_o merciful_a thing_n for_o god_n to_o give_v we_o christ_n and_o to_o give_v we_o heart_n to_o know_v that_o christ_n and_o to_o believe_v in_o that_o christ_n it_o be_v infinite_a mercy_n but_o now_o that_o we_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o unite_v in_o he_o as_o there_o be_v mercy_n so_o it_o be_v righteous_a and_o just_a with_o god_n to_o save_v we_o because_o we_o be_v righteous_a person_n mistake_v i_o not_o i_o say_v every_o poor_a saint_n through_o christ_n be_v a_o righteous_a person_n a_o just_a man_n i_o say_v in_o and_o through_o christ_n he_o have_v take_v away_o all_o our_o sin_n and_o forgive_v all_o our_o iniquity_n coloss_n 2._o so_o that_o when_o god_n save_v believer_n he_o do_v not_o only_o save_v they_o out_o of_o mercy_n but_o out_o of_o righteousness_n he_o can_v do_v no_o otherwise_o therefore_o it_o be_v three_o time_n over_o his_o righteousness_n his_o righteousness_n his_o righteousness_n rom._n 3._o and_o that_o be_v a_o bless_a word_n in_o heb._n 12._o you_o be_v come_v to_o the_o spirit_n of_o just_a man_n make_v perfect_a i_o do_v not_o conceive_v that_o it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n whole_a spirit_n now_o i_o say_v take_v it_o in_o a_o general_a sense_n to_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n be_v not_o only_o to_o walk_v sinful_o and_o carnal_o but_o when_o a_o man_n walk_v though_o devout_o and_o righteous_o in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n yet_o if_o it_o be_v after_o the_o principle_n of_o old_a adam_n if_o he_o do_v not_o walk_v by_o a_o principle_n plant_v in_o he_o from_o the_o new_a adam_n the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n all_o this_o be_v but_o flesh_n now_o then_o for_o a_o man_n to_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n what_o be_v that_o all_o his_o principle_n spring_v from_o the_o root_n of_o jesse_n from_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n all_o his_o action_n be_v upon_o another_o ground_n now_o i_o say_v all_o the_o principle_n and_o action_n of_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n spring_v from_o one_o of_o these_o therefore_o it_o be_v convenient_a and_o necessary_a that_o you_o consider_v how_o the_o two_o adam_n be_v the_o two_o spring_n of_o all_o mankind_n the_o two_o pillar_n as_o it_o be_v upon_o which_o god_n have_v lay_v all_o mankind_n and_o all_o that_o be_v do_v in_o the_o world_n and_o those_o that_o walk_v after_o the_o one_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n and_o those_o that_o be_v after_o the_o other_o walk_n after_o the_o spirit_n so_o much_o in_o general_n now_o more_o particular_o by_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n in_o this_o place_n there_o be_v three_o thing_n mean_v the_o first_o thing_n mean_v by_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n according_a as_o most_o of_o our_o godly_a and_o learned_a translate_v it_o be_v when_o a_o man_n walk_v according_a to_o the_o dictate_v and_o suggestion_n of_o corrupt_a nature_n so_o flesh_n be_v take_v for_o original_a sin_n that_o be_v that_o corruption_n of_o nature_n that_o be_v prone_a to_o every_o evil_a and_o that_o be_v a_o enemy_n to_o all_o good_a so_o a_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n be_v when_o the_o course_n and_o bend_v of_o a_o man_n soul_n and_o life_n go_v after_o sin_n though_o he_o do_v some_o good_a sometime_o yet_o when_o his_o course_n be_v that_o way_n that_o be_v his_o continuedness_n and_o contentedness_n be_v after_o sin_n this_o be_v to_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n first_o when_o it_o be_v his_o continue_a course_n for_o walk_v be_v not_o a_o step_n or_o a_o leap_n or_o a_o stride_n but_o walk_v be_v a_o thing_n of_o many_o pace_n so_o it_o be_v call_v a_o go_v from_o iniquity_n to_o iniquity_n rom._n 6._o and_o then_o there_o be_v in_o walk_a contentedness_n and_o sweetness_n a_o man_n be_v not_o say_v to_o walk_v when_o he_o be_v tire_v or_o when_o he_o go_v in_o danger_n but_o walk_v it_o pleasant_a to_o all_o young_a and_o old_a so_o when_o he_o say_v they_o that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v not_o only_a when_o man_n be_v overtake_v by_o lust_n and_o sin_n
but_o people_n that_o in_o their_o ordinary_a course_n go_v with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o contentment_n in_o evil_a way_n but_o though_o this_o be_v true_a that_o this_o be_v comprehend_v in_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n yet_o this_o be_v very_o lame_a and_o short_a of_o the_o full_a and_o whole_a meaning_n of_o this_o place_n i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o the_o main_a nor_o chief_a meaning_n of_o this_o place_n it_o be_v not_o primary_o not_o principal_o mean_v this_o be_v a_o truth_n and_o it_o will_v follow_v as_o a_o necessary_a consequence_n as_o i_o shall_v show_v anon_o and_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o apostle_n mean_v it_o when_o he_o say_v we_o walk_v not_o according_a to_o the_o flesh_n because_o in_o rom._n 6._o he_o take_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n in_o that_o point_n but_o i_o think_v this_o be_v not_o the_o chief_a meaning_n my_o reason_n be_v these_o first_o because_o i_o find_v that_o the_o very_a scope_n of_o this_o learned_a epistle_n be_v different_a if_o not_o almost_o contrary_a to_o this_o his_o scope_n be_v not_o to_o quarrel_v with_o they_o for_o want_v of_o do_v good_a work_n and_o for_o walk_v in_o sinful_a work_n but_o the_o scope_n of_o it_o be_v to_o beat_v they_o off_o from_o their_o own_o work_n and_o to_o bring_v they_o to_o christ_n and_o therefore_o he_o say_v abraham_n be_v justify_v without_o work_n he_o all_o along_o disparage_v their_o work_n as_o they_o do_v they_o therefore_o i_o think_v he_o do_v not_o go_v so_o far_o from_o his_o text_n or_o from_o his_o scope_n as_o to_o make_v this_o the_o main_a business_n their_o sanctification_n or_o holiness_n the_o not_o walk_v in_o evil_n or_o the_o walk_n in_o good_a work_n second_o this_o can_v be_v the_o chief_a scope_n of_o the_o place_n because_o if_o you_o take_v these_o word_n they_o that_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n in_o this_o sense_n that_o be_v those_o that_o follow_v sinful_a course_n if_o you_o take_v they_o so_o that_o none_o but_o such_o as_o walk_v holy_o have_v a_o right_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o his_o righteousness_n or_o if_o you_o take_v they_o in_o this_o sense_n that_o they_o only_o that_o walk_n in_o a_o holy_a life_n can_v come_v to_o know_v that_o they_o have_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n fulfil_v the_o law_n for_o they_o neither_o of_o these_o can_v hold_v 1._o for_o the_o first_o that_o no_o man_n can_v have_v to_o do_v with_o christ_n or_o his_o righteousness_n but_o that_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n that_o walk_v in_o a_o holy_a way_n and_o not_o in_o sinful_a course_n this_o be_v contrary_n to_o the_o stream_n of_o the_o gospel_n why_o because_o the_o gospel_n all_o along_o offer_v christ_n to_o sinner_n to_o the_o chief_a of_o sinner_n to_o alien_n and_o to_o the_o ungodly_a 2._o then_o again_o if_o this_o be_v so_o sanctification_n shall_v be_v before_o justification_n a_o man_n must_v be_v holy_a before_o he_o shall_v be_v justify_v as_o for_o the_o latter_a sense_n to_o wit_n that_o the_o apostle_n shall_v mean_v this_o that_o no_o man_n can_v know_v any_o other_o way_n that_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n do_v belong_v to_o he_o but_o only_o by_o not_o walk_v after_o the_o flesh_n or_o by_o walk_v after_o the_o spirit_n this_o can_v be_v neither_o for_o however_o we_o may_v know_v a_o little_a in_o a_o way_n of_o sense_n by_o our_o walk_n yet_o the_o main_a way_n to_o know_v our_o justification_n be_v the_o same_o way_n that_o we_o come_v by_o justification_n for_o faith_n be_v the_o evidence_n of_o thing_n not_o see_v the_o main_a evidence_n whereby_o i_o know_v i_o be_o justify_v be_v because_o the_o word_n of_o faith_n say_v so_o the_o word_n tell_v i_o and_o faith_n evidence_v it_o that_o faith_n that_o i_o believe_v by_o it_o show_v i_o that_o i_o believe_v therefore_o though_o i_o be_v inconstant_a in_o my_o way_n of_o grace_n that_o to_o sense_n show_v i_o a_o little_a yet_o it_o do_v not_o sole_o and_o chief_o and_o primary_o so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o substance_n of_o it_o that_o that_o sense_n which_o godly_a reverend_a man_n give_v of_o this_o place_n it_o be_v true_a but_o it_o be_v not_o all_o nor_o concern_v the_o privilege_n those_o various_a prerogative_n and_o privilege_n that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n the_o israelite_n have_v in_o a_o natural_a fleshly_a way_n from_o generation_n to_o generation_n be_v bear_v of_o such_o parent_n of_o such_o tribe_n they_o have_v such_o privilege_n belong_v to_o they_o they_o have_v the_o oracle_n and_o the_o covenant_n and_o the_o table_n etc._n etc._n and_o this_o be_v call_v flesh_n and_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o apostle_n have_v this_o in_o his_o eye_n say_v he_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n be_v fulfil_v in_o we_o that_o for_o now_o it_o spring_v from_o another_o root_n and_o it_o come_v now_o in_o a_o spiritual_a and_o not_o in_o a_o fleshly_a way_n as_o it_o do_v before_o for_o they_o have_v their_o mercy_n general_o in_o the_o old_a testament_n according_a to_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v by_o generation_n isaac_n as_o he_o be_v abraham_n son_n and_o jacob_n his_o son_n etc._n etc._n but_o now_o it_o be_v hear_v a_o man_n in_o a_o few_o modest_a word_n to_o commend_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n but_o all_o must_v be_v by_o study_n and_o read_v and_o learning_n and_o for_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o
