whereby_o they_o do_v take_v into_o the_o body_n the_o infection_n of_o the_o air_n there_o be_v nothing_o whatsoever_o which_o be_v not_o continual_o spend_v its_o spirit_n in_o the_o air_n as_o be_v demonstrable_a in_o all_o thing_n which_o be_v subject_a to_o wax_v old_a i_o mean_v not_o only_o live_v creature_n in_o the_o course_n of_o their_o life_n but_o even_o vegetable_n and_o the_o part_n of_o live_a creature_n which_o we_o call_v drug_n unto_o which_o we_o ascribe_v several_a virtue_n let_v they_o be_v keep_v never_o so_o choice_o yet_o they_o will_v in_o time_n decay_n and_o lose_v the_o say_a virtue_n which_o we_o ascribe_v unto_o they_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o they_o do_v subsist_v and_o preserve_v themselves_o that_o time_n they_o do_v continue_v by_o this_o expense_n of_o their_o virtue_n that_o be_v their_o spirit_n in_o the_o air_n otherwise_o they_o shall_v sudden_o be_v corrupt_v and_o if_o they_o be_v so_o attenuate_v that_o they_o may_v be_v and_o be_v take_v into_o the_o body_n of_o man_n or_o if_o they_o be_v contiguous_a to_o his_o body_n they_o do_v the_o like_a now_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n body_n as_o they_o be_v always_o move_v out_o and_o return_v into_o the_o body_n they_o do_v continual_o lay_v hold_n on_o that_o which_o they_o find_v in_o the_o air_n to_o be_v most_o agreeable_a to_o their_o own_o nature_n that_o be_v something_o which_o be_v most_o spirituous_a and_o do_v carry_v it_o into_o the_o body_n and_o whatsoever_o they_o find_v in_o the_o stomach_n and_o gut_n of_o a_o spirituous_a nature_n they_o do_v likewise_o carry_v it_o into_o the_o more_o inward_a part_n viz._n into_o the_o vein_n and_o artery_n and_o afterward_o perhaps_o into_o the_o nerve_n so_o that_o whensoever_o any_o medicament_n whether_o drug_n or_o composition_n happen_v within_o the_o reach_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o body_n be_v thereby_o alter_v and_o so_o much_o the_o more_o by_o how_o much_o the_o part_n of_o the_o say_a medicament_n be_v separate_v because_o thereby_o its_o atom_n be_v more_o speedy_o scatter_v here_o we_o must_v know_v that_o the_o medicine_n act_v not_o primary_o upon_o the_o spirit_n but_o the_o spirit_n upon_o the_o medicine_n although_o afterward_o they_o do_v accidental_o suffer_v hence_o it_o be_v that_o emplaster_n do_v perform_v no_o alteration_n upon_o a_o mortify_v part_n neither_o do_v external_a thing_n act_v at_o such_o a_o distance_n whereunto_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o body_n can_v come_v to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o the_o spirit_n atom_n or_o quality_n thereof_o i_o can_v make_v a_o close_a illustration_n of_o
