while_o corruption_n be_v in_o the_o soul_n the_o soul_n act_v not_o without_o it_o all_o the_o act_n of_o the_o soul_n have_v a_o tincture_n and_o defilement_n more_o or_o less_o from_o it_o according_a to_o the_o strength_n or_o weakness_n of_o corruption_n so_o the_o soul_n act_v less_o or_o more_o sinful_o and_o it_o be_v mighty_o hinder_v in_o act_v according_a to_o its_o own_o nature_n as_o a_o spirit_n thereby_o but_o not_o to_o carry_v this_o too_o far_o last_o as_o the_o body_n be_v still_o crave_v one_o thing_n or_o other_o meat_n drink_z sleep_n clothes_n the_o cool_a shade_n or_o warm_a fire_n etc._n etc._n so_o corrupt_a nature_n be_v still_o crave_v now_o to_o have_v this_o and_o then_o to_o have_v that_o just_a satisfy_v this_o or_o that_o motion_n fulfil_v and_o as_o solomon_n say_v the_o eye_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o see_v nor_o the_o ear_n with_o hear_v so_o corrupt_a nature_n be_v never_o satisfy_v with_o sin_v but_o as_o the_o more_o many_o what_o be_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n of_o corruption_n they_o be_v deed_n agreeable_a to_o it_o corrupt_a deed_n such_o as_o covet_v lie_v boast_a vain_a glory_v murmur_a dissemble_a with_o those_o many_o other_o of_o that_o evil_a kind_n that_o curse_a generation_n the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n be_v the_o fruit_n and_o birth_n of_o it_o which_o be_v sometime_o call_v the_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n as_o in_o that_o gal._n 5.19_o sometime_o the_o member_n of_o the_o flesh_n or_o our_o member_n which_o be_v upon_o the_o earth_n col._n 3.5_o mortify_v therefore_o your_o member_n affection_n stir_v these_o be_v deed_n and_o work_n before_o god_n they_o have_v as_o real_a evil_n and_o offensiveness_n in_o they_o in_o god_n eye_n as_o any_o outward_a action_n and_o therefore_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v make_v light_n but_o our_o heart_n shall_v mourn_v be_v ashamed_a humble_v and_o break_v for_o they_o as_o well_o as_o for_o outward_a sin_n some_o one_o may_v here_o ask_v why_o say_v our_o apostle_n if_o you_o mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n why_o say_v he_o not_o if_o you_o mortify_v the_o body_n it_o may_v be_v think_v he_o shall_v rather_o have_v speak_v of_o mortify_v the_o body_n of_o corruption_n itself_o than_o the_o deed_n of_o it_o i_o answer_v 1._o the_o apostle_n may_v thus_o express_v himself_o because_o the_o deed_n of_o corrupt_a nature_n break_v a_o man_n head_n to_o piece_n or_o stop_v his_o breathe_n and_o you_o kill_v his_o body_n if_o any_o say_v rather_o the_o way_n to_o mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n be_v to_o mortify_v the_o body_n itself_o to_o mortify_v the_o root_n be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o mortify_v the_o fruit_n than_o i_o answer_v the_o apostle_n intend_v that_o that_o we_o mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n by_o mortify_v the_o body_n corrupt_a nature_n itself_o which_o must_v be_v do_v for_o if_o any_o can_v mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o old_a man_n bare_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n still_o remain_v unsubdued_a that_o will_v not_o avail_v three_o it_o be_v by_o the_o mortification_n of_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n that_o we_o know_v whether_o it_o be_v mortify_v yea_o or_o no_o as_o by_o the_o move_n of_o the_o natural_a body_n by_o the_o eye_n hand_n and_o nostril_n we_o know_v a_o man_n body_n to_o be_v alive_a or_o dead_a four_o
than_o the_o mighty_a wave_n of_o the_o sea_n so_o be_v no_o man_n darius_n find_v himself_o too_o weak_a to_o deal_v with_o the_o wave_n when_o they_o break_v his_o bridge_n of_o boat_n though_o he_o have_v a_o hundred_o thousand_o man_n at_o his_o command_n and_o be_v but_o laugh_v at_o for_o his_o attempt_n by_o shackle_n and_o stripe_n to_o tame_v the_o tempestuous_a water_n but_o christ_n by_o command_v the_o sea_n to_o silence_n show_v and_o make_v manifest_a the_o power_n of_o god_n thus_o when_o our_o lust_n lift_v up_o their_o voice_n when_o our_o flesh_n lift_v up_o its_o wave_n as_o it_o be_v in_o our_o soul_n the_o lord_n be_v more_o mighty_a we_o be_v too_o weak_a to_o grapple_v with_o they_o but_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v mighty_a than_o the_o strong_a motion_n long_o against_o it_o without_o conquest_n over_o it_o can_v this_o lust_n be_v subdue_v can_v it_o ever_o be_v mortify_v and_o sure_o it_o be_v we_o be_v all_o too_o full_a of_o unbelief_n as_o to_o god_n power_n however_o some_o imagine_v they_o believe_v it_o enough_o hence_o they_o say_v can_v god_n prepare_v a_o table_n in_o the_o wilderness_n yea_o moses_n himself_o notwithstanding_o all_o he_o have_v hear_v see_v and_o experience_v of_o the_o power_n of_o god_n yet_o once_o speak_v doubt_o concern_v it_o numb_a 11.21_o 22._o for_o which_o god_n rebuke_v he_o v._o 23._o saying_n be_v the_o lord_n hand_n wax_v short_a and_o hence_o though_o the_o prophet_n make_v a_o full_a confession_n of_o god_n power_n jer._n 32.17_o ah_o lord_n god_n behold_v thou_o have_v make_v the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n by_o thy_o great_a power_n and_o stretch_v out_o arm_n and_o there_o be_v nothing_o too_o hard_o for_o thou_o yet_o observe_v in_o the_o follow_a verse_n he_o seem_v to_o speak_v shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n wherefore_o this_o be_v needful_a to_o be_v declare_v and_o to_o be_v urge_v whatever_o our_o fin_n be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n can_v to_o beat_v down_o its_o lust_n when_o it_o have_v the_o powerful_a assistance_n of_o the_o almighty_a most_o wise_a spirit_n and_o hence_o they_o who_o have_v the_o spirit_n help_v they_o fight_v against_o their_o sin_n with_o delight_n it_o be_v a_o good_a work_n and_o they_o have_v good_a help_n what_o they_o do_v be_v not_o burdensome_a wearisome_a and_o irksome_a as_o it_o be_v to_o other_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o apt_a to_o be_v discourage_v and_o give_v over_o as_o other_o be_v neh._n 4.8_o 9_o they_o conspire_v all_o of_o they_o together_o to_o come_v and_o to_o fight_v against_o jerusalem_n nevertheless_o we_o make_v our_o prayer_n unto_o our_o god_n and_o set_v watch_n against_o they_o day_n and_o night_n nehemiah_n be_v not_o dishearten_v because_o he_o be_v act_v some_o degree_n so_o far_o as_o it_o please_v second_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v some_o more_o other_o less_o and_o the_o same_o person_n sometime_o more_o sometime_o less_o sometime_o the_o spirit_n almost_o quite_o leave_v those_o who_o have_v it_o and_o be_v act_v by_o it_o as_o to_o their_o sense_n they_o be_v even_o altogether_o leave_v to_o themselves_o either_o because_o they_o have_v grieve_v the_o spirit_n or_o for_o their_o trial_n and_o to_o cause_v they_o to_o know_v more_o their_o own_o weakness_n and_o pray_v more_o earnest_o for_o the_o spirit_n help_v hence_o it_o may_v be_v that_o they_o who_o have_v the_o spirit_n and_o have_v go_v far_o in_o the_o war_n against_o their_o sin_n by_o it_o may_v find_v the_o work_n so_o hard_o as_o to_o begin_v for_o a_o time_n as_o we_o ought_v we_o have_v too_o much_o a_o secret_a confidence_n in_o our_o own_o endeavour_n resolution_n and_o duty_n or_o in_o grace_n receive_v thus_o the_o spirit_n be_v grieve_v so_o it_o more_o sensible_a of_o it_o than_o he_o be_v so_o be_v it_o as_o to_o sin_n and_o it_o be_v one_o part_n of_o satan_n work_n to_o bely_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o when_o man_n go_v forth_o against_o their_o sin_n without_o the_o spirit_n satan_n endeavour_v to_o cause_v they_o to_o think_v their_o sin_n dead_a when_o it_o live_v as_o much_o as_o ever_o have_v no_o deadly_a wound_n at_o upon_o they_o as_o strong_a than_o they_o be_v it_o be_v a_o disgraceful_a injury_n to_o a_o physician_n when_o his_o patient_n get_v good_a by_o his_o prescription_n and_o be_v real_o better_a for_o they_o to_o say_v they_o be_v as_o bad_a as_o sick_a as_o ever_o they_o have_v get_v no_o good_a thereby_o so_o be_v it_o a_o dishonour_n and_o wrong_v to_o the_o bless_v most_o precious_a spirit_n of_o grace_n for_o those_o who_o have_v it_o and_o be_v act_v by_o it_o or_o make_v use_n of_o it_o to_o say_v they_o be_v never_o the_o better_a that_o their_o sin_n retain_v their_o former_a strength_n notwithstanding_o as_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v either_o weak_a unskilful_a or_o unfaithful_a it_o be_v good_a for_o we_o to_o think_v and_o confess_v the_o worst_a of_o ourselves_o and_o we_o shall_v be_v humble_v and_o ashamed_a that_o our_o sin_n be_v no_o more_o subdue_v but_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o we_o dishonour_v not_o the_o spirit_n nor_o speak_v more_o against_o ourselves_o than_o be_v true_a as_o we_o must_v not_o speak_v false_o for_o god_n so_o not_o against_o ourselves_o all_o false_a witness_n be_v a_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o let_v i_o say_v our_o heart_n be_v very_o deceitful_a in_o this_o thing_n we_o do_v not_o always_o act_v through_o the_o spirit_n nor_o be_v we_o sensible_a of_o our_o need_n of_o it_o nor_o do_v we_o so_o hearty_o seek_v it_o or_o rely_v on_o it_o as_o we_o sometime_o suppose_v i_o doubt_v not_o there_o be_v many_o who_o can_v testify_v that_o they_o have_v experience_v the_o deceitfulness_n of_o their_o heart_n in_o this_o as_o well_o as_o in_o other_o thing_n they_o have_v think_v that_o they_o do_v resolve_v and_o strive_v through_o the_o spirit_n but_o afterward_o they_o have_v find_v that_o they_o do_v look_v too_o much_o to_o themselves_o and_o too_o little_a to_o the_o spirit_n that_o they_o have_v more_o self_n confidence_n than_o they_o be_v aware_a of_o some_o may_v here_o desire_v far_a advice_n how_o they_o shall_v do_v this_o work_n through_o the_o spirit_n how_o their_o heart_n shall_v be_v bring_v to_o a_o thorough_a trust_n in_o the_o spirit_n that_o they_o may_v have_v its_o help_n against_o their_o sin_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v first_o when_o sin_n prevail_v in_o you_o not_o only_o confess_v that_o but_o this_o that_o you_o have_v not_o make_v use_n of_o there_o be_v no_o sin_n more_o hateful_a to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n than_o pride_n be_v therefore_o it_o help_v we_o against_o other_o sin_n it_o will_v sure_o smite_v that_o last_o be_v exhort_v sin_n mortify_v their_o sin_n they_o have_v not_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o can_v act_v through_o it_o but_o if_o we_o do_v destroy_v our_o corruption_n through_o the_o spirit_n than_o we_o be_v quicken_v and_o we_o shall_v retain_v that_o spiritual_a life_n we_o have_v 2_o pet._n 1.10_o if_o you_o do_v these_o thing_n you_o shall_v never_o fall_v never_o fall_v as_o adam_n do_v so_o as_o yet_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o your_o sin_n but_o if_o your_o affection_n be_v draw_v out_o to_o other_o according_a as_o you_o perceive_v they_o to_o be_v engage_v against_o all_o their_o sin_n this_o speak_v well_o and_o the_o sign_n be_v the_o clear_a if_o you_o do_v in_o your_o heart_n esteem_v and_o rejoice_v in_o such_o who_o have_v get_v a_o great_a conquest_n over_o their_o sin_n than_o you_o have_v yet_o attain_v to_o four_o it_o be_v a_o hopeful_a evidence_n if_o you_o have_v much_o tenderness_n towards_o such_o who_o be_v struggle_v and_o strive_v against_o their_o sin_n when_o you_o see_v they_o sometime_o foil_v thereby_o yet_o it_o appear_v that_o they_o do_v wrestle_v against_o their_o sin_n your_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o pity_n towards_o they_o you_o
