he_o be_v set_v behind_o door_n he_o offer_v holy_a motion_n to_o we_o he_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o read_v to_o pray_v to_o humble_a and_o afflict_v our_o soul_n to_o meditate_v of_o holy_a thing_n must_v be_v infinite_o cautious_a that_o you_o do_v not_o grieve_v that_o spirit_n by_o which_o he_o be_v present_a with_o you_o if_o you_o grieve_v and_o trouble_v he_o he_o will_v withdraw_v and_o hide_v himself_o from_o you_o and_o then_o christ_n be_v whole_o go_v both_o in_o the_o body_n and_o the_o spirit_n too_o you_o do_v not_o sensible_o enjoy_v he_o neither_o one_o way_n nor_o the_o other_o and_o so_o be_v in_o a_o very_a sad_a case_n since_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v all_o that_o you_o enjoy_v of_o christ_n so_o that_o if_o he_o be_v go_v my_o brethren_n all_o be_v go_v you_o must_v be_v very_o wary_a that_o you_o do_v not_o vex_v the_o spirit_n and_o cause_v he_o to_o depart_v from_o you_o but_o you_o will_v ask_v i_o which_o way_n do_v we_o vex_v and_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n we_o will_v know_v it_o that_o so_o we_o may_v be_v careful_a to_o avoid_v it_o i_o may_v speak_v much_o of_o this_o subject_a and_o draw_v out_o my_o discourse_n into_o and_o the_o zeal_n and_o the_o devotion_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o be_v indeed_o the_o main_a thing_n to_o be_v look_v to_o that_o they_o may_v have_v no_o thought_n at_o all_o of_o the_o external_n circumstance_n of_o their_o prayer_n the_o gesture_n or_o the_o manner_n of_o their_o utterance_n which_o be_v considerable_a notwithstanding_o as_o i_o have_v make_v it_o plain_a enough_o and_o therefore_o to_o be_v whole_o careless_a of_o they_o be_v a_o fail_v yea_o though_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o the_o best_a of_o god_n people_n use_v 2_o and_o therefore_o in_o the_o second_o place_n let_v i_o persuade_v you_o to_o think_v such_o outward_a circumstance_n worthy_a of_o your_o thought_n the_o very_a gesture_n and_o the_o utterance_n of_o your_o prayer_n let_v there_o be_v due_a apprehend_v he_o and_o look_v upon_o he_o when_o he_o be_v make_v his_o petition_n to_o he_o the_o point_n you_o see_v have_v two_o branch_n first_o god_n be_v the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n then_o christ_n do_v look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o father_n and_o apprehend_v he_o as_o a_o father_n when_o he_o be_v make_v his_o petition_n to_o he_o god_n be_v the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n i_o shall_v not_o waste_v away_o my_o time_n to_o prove_v it_o it_o be_v so_o clear_o and_o express_o teach_v in_o scripture_n every_o where_o you_o shall_v observe_v they_o often_o own_v one_o another_o under_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o father_n and_o a_o son_n sometime_o the_o father_n own_v our_o saviour_n for_o his_o son_n and_o this_o he_o do_v by_o a_o immediate_a attestation_n out_o of_o heaven_n itself_o mat._n 3.17_o lo_o a_o voice_n from_o heaven_n say_v this_o be_v my_o belove_a son_n me_n think_v he_o seem_v to_o point_v he_o out_o to_o special_a observation_n this_o be_v he_o sometime_o our_o saviour_n on_o the_o other_o side_n acknowledge_v and_o own_v the_o father_n and_o this_o be_v very_o usual_a upon_o all_o occasion_n but_o how_o be_v god_n the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n or_o in_o what_o sense_n do_v he_o call_v he_o father_n here_o no_o otherwise_o then_o we_o do_v this_o will_v need_v a_o little_a open_n to_o clear_v it_o to_o you_o in_o a_o word_n or_o two_o you_o must_v consider_v that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v two_o sort_n of_o son_n either_o he_o have_v son_n make_v or_o else_o he_o have_v son_n beget_v he_o have_v son_n make_v and_o that_o both_o by_o creation_n and_o adoption_n first_o he_o be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o father_n by_o creation_n and_o thus_o he_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o universal_a fatherhood_n to_o all_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n style_v he_o the_o father_n of_o all_o eph._n 4.6_o he_o be_v in_o this_o regard_n the_o father_n of_o our_o body_n and_o the_o father_n of_o our_o spirit_n the_o father_n of_o our_o body_n mediate_o and_o virtual_o create_v in_o the_o loin_n of_o adam_n the_o father_n of_o our_o spirit_n immediate_o and_o actual_o for_o one_o i_o mean_v above_o the_o rest_n though_o not_o for_o one_o among_o the_o rest_n so_o that_o he_o have_v his_o privilege_n in_o this_o regard_n as_o the_o apostle_n intimate_v eph._n 1.5_o god_n have_v predestinate_v we_o to_o the_o adoption_n of_o child_n by_o jesus_n christ_n perhaps_o the_o meaning_n may_v be_v this_o first_o he_o have_v adopt_v christ_n as_o man_n and_o as_o a_o creature_n and_o then_o he_o have_v adopt_v we_o by_o he_o as_o part_v of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o as_o member_n of_o his_o body_n and_o as_o this_o father_n have_v his_o son_n make_v both_o by_o creation_n and_o adoption_n so_o he_o have_v his_o son_n beget_v and_o his_o son_n bear_v for_o both_o of_o these_o expression_n we_o shall_v find_v in_o scripture_n he_o have_v beget_v we_o say_v christ_n as_o see_v the_o place_n etc._n etc._n psal_n 45.7_o god_n even_o thy_o god_n and_o christ_n do_v sometime_o call_v he_o his_o god_n as_o john_n 20.17_o i_o ascend_v to_o my_o god_n but_o to_o the_o best_a of_o my_o remembrance_n he_o never_o call_v he_o so_o in_o prayer_n he_o come_v not_o to_o he_o by_o the_o name_n of_o his_o god_n but_o by_o the_o name_n of_o his_o father_n that_o be_v the_o sweet_a and_o precious_a name_n that_o he_o delight_v to_o call_v he_o by_o when_o he_o be_v pour_v out_o his_o prayer_n to_o he_o i_o shall_v add_v no_o more_o for_o proof_n the_o point_n be_v plain_a god_n be_v the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n and_o so_o he_o apprehend_v he_o etc._n etc._n be_v god_n the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n this_o then_o may_v serve_v for_o sweet_a use_n 1_o and_o precious_a consolation_n to_o the_o saint_n and_o to_o those_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n for_o if_o god_n be_v christ_n father_n than_o he_o be_v their_o father_n too_o and_o this_o our_o saviour_n christ_n himself_o acknowledge_v to_o his_o disciple_n for_o their_o comfort_n i_o ascend_v to_o my_o father_n and_o your_o father_n my_o father_n but_o so_o that_o he_o be_v you_o too_o first_o mine_n and_o then_o you_o my_o interest_n indeed_o in_o this_o respect_n be_v

able_a of_o itself_o without_o addition_n to_o make_v we_o wise_a unto_o salvation_n 2_o tim._n 3.15_o this_o be_v a_o perfect_a and_o a_o full_a discovery_n so_o that_o we_o need_v no_o other_o knowledge_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o salvation_n then_o that_o which_o be_v reveal_v to_o we_o in_o the_o scripture_n 3._o three_o christ_n make_v a_o full_a discovery_n of_o his_o father_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v the_o compliment_n of_o all_o in_o this_o business_n indeed_o there_o be_v a_o full_a discovery_n of_o he_o in_o the_o word_n material_o there_o be_v nothing_o want_v there_o but_o it_o be_v not_o full_a to_o we_o without_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o spirit_n christ_n show_v his_o father_n there_o in_o all_o his_o glory_n excellency_n overflow_a love_n to_o his_o people_n but_o if_o the_o spirit_n do_v not_o cure_v the_o blindness_n of_o our_o eye_n and_o open_v they_o and_o take_v away_o the_o vail_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o we_o can_v never_o see_v he_o it_o be_v the_o comforter_n the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o teach_v all_o thing_n conceive_v it_o efficacious_o and_o with_o success_n joh._n 14.28_o who_o discovery_n and_o second_o why_o the_o discovery_n which_o he_o make_v be_v such_o a_o absolute_a and_o full_a discovery_n 1._o first_o as_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n there_o be_v two_o weighty_a reason_n for_o it_o for_o first_o none_o but_o he_o be_v able_a and_o next_o none_o but_o he_o be_v fit_a to_o make_v it_o 1._o first_o none_o but_o jesus_n christ_n be_v able_a to_o make_v this_o full_a discovery_n of_o his_o father_n for_o none_o but_o he_o be_v perfect_o acquaint_v with_o he_o alas_o all_o man_n be_v stranger_n to_o the_o father_n the_o worst_a man_n absolute_o and_o in_o all_o respect_n and_o the_o best_a in_o some_o measure_n and_o all_o the_o knowledge_n which_o any_o soul_n have_v of_o he_o it_o have_v from_o jesus_n christ_n too_o but_o now_o my_o brethren_n jesus_n christ_n have_v the_o full_a knowledge_n of_o his_o father_n he_o do_v not_o know_v he_o outward_o alone_a but_o he_o know_v his_o very_a heart_n and_o the_o secret_n of_o his_o bosom_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v say_v to_o lodge_v there_o and_o so_o to_o be_v the_o only_a possible_a revealer_n of_o the_o father_n to_o the_o world_n no_o man_n have_v see_v god_n at_o any_o time_n the_o only_o beget_v son_n which_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n he_o have_v declare_v he_o joh._n 1.18_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o any_o one_o to_o make_v the_o father_n know_v unless_o he_o know_v he_o now_o this_o be_v proper_a and_o peculiar_a to_o the_o son_n no_o man_n know_v the_o father_n but_o the_o but_o christ_n be_v able_a so_o none_o but_o christ_n be_v fit_a to_o manifest_v his_o father_n to_o his_o people_n he_o be_v the_o only_a mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n there_o be_v but_o one_o as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o and_o that_o be_v christ_n 1_o tim._n 2.5_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v congruous_a that_o he_o shall_v manage_v and_o transact_v the_o business_n all_o the_o business_n between_o god_n and_o man_n that_o all_o shall_v go_v through_o his_o hand_n he_o be_v to_o make_v god_n friend_n with_o we_o and_o to_o make_v we_o friend_n with_o god_n the_o peace_n must_v be_v on_o both_o side_n and_o how_o shall_v he_o effect_v the_o latter_a but_o by_o reveal_v and_o make_v know_v his_o father_n to_o we_o in_o all_o his_o beauty_n and_o his_o glory_n and_o his_o excellency_n in_o himself_o in_o all_o the_o tenderness_n and_o dearness_n of_o his_o love_n to_o we_o and_o so_o to_o join_v our_o heart_n to_o he_o this_o latter_a be_v especial_o the_o name_n of_o god_n which_o christ_n be_v as_o a_o saviour_n to_o discover_v viz._n his_o attribute_n of_o love_n and_o mercy_n this_o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o christ_n indeed_o to_o manifest_v this_o name_n of_o god_n all_o that_o be_v sweet_a and_o lovely_a in_o he_o to_o his_o people_n this_o may_v suffice_v to_o let_v you_o know_v why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n of_o the_o father_n to_o his_o people_n we_o have_v but_o one_o thing_n yet_o behind_o why_o the_o discovery_n that_o he_o make_v be_v such_o a_o absolute_a and_o full_a discovery_n i_o give_v you_o but_o two_o reason_n of_o it_o and_o i_o have_v do_v for_o this_o time_n he_o do_v it_o
be_v bestow_v upon_o he_o so_o that_o they_o be_v sever_v separate_v from_o the_o world_n they_o be_v no_o long_o of_o the_o wicked_a unbelieve_a world_n but_o of_o another_o party_n that_o be_v divide_v and_o distinguish_v from_o the_o world_n in_o the_o world_n they_o be_v indeed_o but_o they_o be_v not_o of_o the_o world_n and_o these_o be_v evident_o they_o of_o who_o our_o saviour_n speak_v in_o this_o place_n the_o man_n who_o thou_o give_v i_o out_o of_o the_o world_n now_o to_o those_o he_o here_o affirm_v that_o he_o have_v manifest_v and_o make_v know_v his_o father_n name_n and_o you_o must_v understand_v it_o to_o be_v speak_v by_o our_o saviour_n here_o exclusive_o i_o have_v manifest_v thy_o name_n unto_o the_o man_n which_o thou_o give_v i_o out_o of_o the_o world_n that_o be_v to_o they_o and_o none_o other_o why_o do_v not_o christ_n make_v know_v his_o father_n name_n to_o all_o without_o distinction_n do_v he_o not_o preach_v to_o all_o do_v he_o not_o open_a not_o as_o to_o the_o inward_a and_o effectual_a revelation_n he_o do_v not_o manifest_v it_o by_o his_o spirit_n save_o to_o all_o no_o my_o beloved_n this_o be_v the_o privilege_n but_o of_o a_o few_o and_o in_o particular_a of_o those_o who_o be_v bestow_v upon_o he_o by_o his_o father_n to_o be_v member_n of_o his_o body_n so_o say_v our_o saviour_n to_o his_o father_n here_o i_o have_v manifest_v thy_o name_n unto_o the_o man_n which_o thou_o give_v i_o out_o of_o the_o world_n to_o they_o and_o not_o to_o other_o or_o else_o at_o least_o to_o they_o so_o as_o i_o have_v not_o do_v to_o other_o they_o have_v a_o privilege_n in_o this_o respect_n which_o other_o be_v not_o make_v partaker_n of_o i_o have_v make_v it_o know_v to_o they_o effectual_o and_o save_o and_o not_o to_o other_o you_o see_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n the_o point_n to_o be_v observe_v be_v two_o first_o there_o be_v some_o certain_a man_n who_o god_n the_o father_n give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n out_o of_o the_o world_n second_o that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v make_v his_o father_n know_v effectual_o and_o save_o to_o they_o and_o none_o beside_o they_o at_o this_o time_n of_o the_o first_o doctrine_n there_o be_v some_o certain_a man_n who_o god_n the_o father_n give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n out_o of_o the_o world_n in_o prosecution_n of_o this_o observation_n i_o shall_v distinct_o evidence_n and_o clear_v these_o four_o thing_n first_o there_o be_v some_o man_n who_o god_n the_o father_n give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n second_o there_o be_v a_o certain_a number_n of_o they_o three_o they_o be_v of_o the_o world_n before_o the_o father_n give_v they_o to_o the_o son_n and_o four_o after_o they_o be_v give_v up_o to_o jesus_n christ_n they_o be_v of_o the_o world_n no_o long_o all_o these_o particular_n be_v wrap_v up_o in_o the_o observation_n and_o the_o text_n as_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o brief_o and_o in_o order_n first_o there_o be_v some_o man_n who_o god_n the_o father_n give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n so_o he_o himself_o describe_v the_o person_n to_o who_o he_o manifest_v his_o father_n name_n not_o by_o their_o inward_a disposition_n not_o by_o their_o outward_a action_n or_o condition_n but_o by_o the_o act_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o or_o concern_v they_o his_o giving_z they_o to_o jesus_n christ_n they_o be_v the_o man_n say_v he_o who_o thou_o give_v i_o so_o that_o some_o have_v this_o privilege_n you_o see_v above_o the_o rest_n of_o lose_a mankind_n that_o god_n the_o father_n give_v they_o to_o his_o son_n christ_n and_o give_v they_o to_o he_o in_o a_o special_a manner_n as_o i_o show_v you_o even_o now_o not_o to_o be_v his_o servant_n only_o but_o to_o be_v his_o member_n too_o he_o bestow_v they_o upon_o christ_n to_o be_v his_o own_o peculiar_a people_n i_o will_v not_o stay_v on_o this_o because_o it_o have_v be_v large_o handle_v heretofore_o second_o now_o for_o the_o second_o thing_n there_o be_v a_o certain_a number_n of_o they_o there_o be_v some_o certain_a man_n who_o god_n the_o father_n give_v to_o christ_n they_o be_v thus_o many_o not_o a_o person_n more_o or_o less_o the_o number_n of_o they_o be_v exact_o know_v to_o god_n and_o christ_n he_o know_v how_o many_o of_o they_o there_o be_v to_o a_o man_n and_o hence_o our_o saviour_n speak_v of_o they_o in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o be_v able_a to_o distinguish_v they_o from_o all_o the_o world_n beside_o i_o have_v manifest_v thy_o name_n unto_o the_o man_n who_o thou_o give_v i_o out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o so_o he_o tell_v we_o that_o he_o know_v his_o sheep_n that_o be_v give_v he_o of_o his_o father_n as_o his_o own_o expression_n be_v john_n 10.27_o 29._o and_o yet_o he_o call_v his_o sheep_n by_o name_n ver_fw-la 3._o and_o in_o the_o 9_o verse_n of_o this_o very_a chapter_n i_o pray_v for_o they_o say_v he_o i_o pray_v not_o for_o the_o world_n but_o for_o they_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o so_o that_o our_o saviour_n christ_n distinguish_v you_o see_v he_o know_v who_o be_v his_o own_o by_o free_a donation_n of_o his_o father_n and_o for_o they_o he_o pray_v he_o know_v who_o be_v not_o give_v he_o and_o for_o they_o he_o pray_v not_o there_o be_v a_o certain_a number_n of_o they_o know_v to_o christ_n three_o now_o this_o select_a company_n be_v of_o the_o world_n before_o the_o father_n give_v they_o to_o the_o son_n i_o do_v not_o mean_v before_o he_o give_v they_o by_o election_n but_o before_o he_o give_v they_o to_o he_o by_o actual_a union_n and_o incorporation_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v say_v express_o to_o be_v give_v to_o jesus_n christ_n out_o of_o the_o world_n so_o that_o the_o world_n be_v always_o beforehand_o with_o jesus_n christ_n in_o this_o regard_n the_o world_n have_v the_o possession_n of_o they_o first_o and_o afterward_o they_o come_v to_o appertain_v to_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o first_o place_n they_o be_v the_o world_n as_o all_o unsanctify_v and_o unregenerate_v person_n be_v and_o then_o at_o length_n they_o come_v to_o be_v the_o lord_n four_o and_o then_o when_o they_o be_v once_o the_o lord_n they_o be_v no_o long_o of_o the_o world_n which_o be_v the_o last_o thing_n in_o the_o point_n they_o be_v give_v jesus_n christ_n out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o consequent_o when_o he_o have_v they_o once_o they_o be_v not_o of_o it_o they_o be_v no_o long_a man_n of_o this_o world_n as_o for_o the_o rest_n that_o be_v not_o actual_o bestow_v on_o christ_n they_o be_v inhabitant_n indweller_n of_o the_o earth_n as_o they_o be_v often_o style_v in_o the_o revelation_n they_o be_v the_o man_n of_o this_o world_n as_o the_o prophet_n david_n call_v they_o who_o have_v their_o portion_n in_o this_o present_a life_n psal_n 17.14_o they_o be_v not_o of_o the_o father_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v but_o of_o the_o world_n 1_o john_n 2.16_o they_o be_v of_o the_o world_n therefore_o speak_v they_o of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o world_n hear_v they_o john_n 4.5_o but_o they_o that_o be_v deliver_v up_o to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o become_v his_o member_n they_o be_v of_o the_o world_n no_o long_o and_o this_o the_o saint_n in_o scripture_n have_v confess_v that_o they_o be_v stranger_n pilgrim_n sojourner_n in_o this_o world_n and_o therefore_o look_v for_o and_o make_v towards_o their_o own_o country_n hebr._n 11.6_o i_o be_o a_o stranger_n on_o the_o earth_n say_v david_n psal_n 119.196_o not_o in_o his_o place_n of_o banishment_n alone_o with_o the_o philistines_n but_o in_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n too_o yea_o presence_n of_o his_o father_n to_o the_o country_n whence_o he_o come_v he_o do_v it_o in_o a_o glorious_a and_o triumphant_a way_n he_o do_v not_o steal_v away_o out_o of_o the_o world_n as_o if_o he_o have_v ashamed_a of_o that_o which_o he_o have_v do_v or_o suffer_v there_o as_o if_o he_o have_v be_v overcome_v no_o he_o go_v away_o triumph_v as_o one_o that_o have_v absolute_o conquer_v and_o beat_v all_o that_o stand_v against_o he_o bring_v along_o his_o prisoner_n with_o he_o 2._o jesus_n christ_n be_v go_v away_o etc._n etc._n that_o he_o may_v send_v down_o his_o spirit_n to_o his_o people_n that_o be_v another_o work_n he_o have_v to_o do_v the_o spirit_n be_v not_o to_o come_v down_o till_o he_o come_v up_o and_o therefore_o he_o ascend_v that_o the_o spirit_n may_v descend_v abundant_o upon_o his_o people_n and_o this_o be_v that_o of_o which_o he_o mind_v his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n when_o he_o be_v about_o to_o leave_v they_o joh._n 16.7_o it_o be_v expedient_a for_o you_o that_o i_o go_v away_o and_o why_o so_o for_o if_o i_o do_v not_o go_v away_o the_o comforter_n the_o holy_a spirit_n will_v not_o come_v while_o i_o be_o with_o you_o in_o the_o flesh_n you_o be_v so_o take_v up_o with_o carnal_a and_o fleshly_a apprehension_n of_o i_o that_o you_o be_v make_v incapable_a of_o great_a degree_n &_o measure_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o no_o edify_n that_o be_v in_o english_a no_o build_n it_o be_v of_o great_a concernment_n to_o the_o entertainment_n of_o christ_n jesus_n in_o the_o world_n that_o his_o disciple_n be_v at_o near_a
