how_o through_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v he_o he_o be_v able_a but_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n whereby_o he_o be_v able_a be_v whence_o in_o any_o part_n from_o himself_o no_o no_o such_o word_n but_o from_o christ_n who_o dwell_v in_o he_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o strengthen_v he_o so_o that_o he_o can_v be_v abase_v and_o he_o can_v abound_v and_o still_o be_v content_a with_o his_o estate_n whence_o i_o observe_v that_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n whereby_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v whatsoever_o thing_n be_v good_a be_v not_o from_o ourselves_o but_o from_o christ_n who_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n so_o strengthen_v we_o in_o our_o inner_a man_n that_o we_o can_v be_v content_a with_o prosperity_n or_o adversity_n and_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v ourselves_o but_o our_o sufficiency_n be_v of_o god_n where_o the_o apostle_n do_v not_o deny_v that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o think_v that_o be_v good_a but_o he_o say_v that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a of_o ourselves_o as_o of_o ourselves_o but_o only_o by_o god_n so_o in_o this_o epistle_n it_o be_v god_n say_v he_o which_o work_v in_o you_o both_o the_o will_n and_o the_o deed_n even_o of_o his_o good_a pleasure_n where_o he_o deni_v not_o that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o will_n or_o to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o he_o say_v that_o it_o be_v god_n that_o work_v in_o we_o both_o the_o will_n and_o the_o deed_n of_o his_o good_a pleasure_n not_o to_o trouble_v you_o with_o mo_z place_n to_o this_o purpose_n by_o these_o you_o see_v that_o it_o be_v not_o of_o ourselves_o but_o of_o god_n that_o we_o think_v will_n or_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a we_o think_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o think_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o suggest_v good_a cogitation_n into_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o dwell_v in_o us._n we_o will_v and_o desire_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o will_n and_o desire_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o work_v good_a motion_n and_o holy_a desire_n in_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n we_o fly_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o fly_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v that_o be_v good_a by_o minister_a strength_n unto_o we_o through_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o us._n we_o know_v how_o to_o be_v abase_v and_o how_o to_o abound_v how_o to_o be_v full_a and_o how_o to_o be_v hungry_a etc._n etc._n but_o it_o be_v god_n that_o enable_v we_o hereunto_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n without_o he_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o as_o himself_o tell_v we_o 15.5_o joh._n 15.5_o not_o think_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a thought_n not_o will_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a desire_n not_o do_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a deed_n so_o whole_o be_v every_o good_a gift_n from_o he_o but_o by_o he_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o our_o duty_n require_v of_o we_o though_o not_o in_o that_o degree_n of_o perfection_n which_o we_o ought_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o sin_n which_o hang_v so_o fast_o on_o we_o yet_o so_o as_o he_o will_v be_v well_o please_v with_o we_o and_o perfect_a his_o praise_n in_o our_o weakness_n here_o than_o first_o fall_v to_o the_o ground_n that_o error_n of_o they_o who_o maintain_v that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o our_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n be_v only_o holpen_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n what_o be_v man_n that_o he_o shall_v desire_v to_o part_v stake_n with_o his_o maker_n do_v not_o god_n work_v all_o in_o all_o the_o apostle_n say_v so_o and_o shall_v not_o he_o then_o have_v the_o glory_n of_o all_o have_v thou_o any_o good_a thing_n that_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v of_o the_o lord_n the_o apostle_n think_v not_o why_o then_o reioyc_a thou_o in_o it_o as_o though_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v it_o in_o christ_n we_o have_v all_o good_a thing_n that_o we_o have_v whether_o for_o this_o life_n present_a or_o that_o that_o be_v to_o come_v and_o whatsoever_o good_a thing_n we_o do_v we_o be_v whole_o enable_v thereunto_o through_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v us._n let_v not_o we_o therefore_o set_v foot_n into_o any_o part_n of_o his_o glory_n but_o as_o it_o be_v write_v let_v he_o that_o rejoice_v rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n second_o let_v this_o teach_v we_o what_o we_o be_v in_o ourselves_o much_o worse_a than_o thus_o and_o yet_o how_o ready_a be_v we_o to_o soothe_v up_o ourselves_o and_o how_o glad_o do_v we_o hear_v the_o praise_n of_o other_o for_o any_o thing_n that_o we_o say_v or_o do_v well_o nay_o rather_o than_o fail_v we_o will_v break_v out_o into_o our_o own_o praise_n and_o worse_o than_o that_o we_o will_v either_o shut_v he_o out_o of_o all_o unto_o who_o all_o praise_n be_v due_a or_o else_o enter_v upon_o a_o part_n with_o he_o so_o far_o in_o love_n be_v we_o with_o ourselves_o that_o we_o forget_v christ_n though_o without_o christ_n there_o be_v nothing_o to_o be_v love_v in_o us._n but_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o know_v what_o we_o be_v in_o ourselves_o and_o let_v we_o be_v confound_v in_o ourselves_o and_o for_o whatsoever_o we_o say_v or_o sometime_o he_o strengthen_v we_o sometime_o to_o do_v &_o sometime_o to_o suffer_v those_o thing_n which_o otherwise_o we_o can_v not_o how_o ought_v our_o mouth_n then_o to_o be_v fill_v with_o his_o praise_n and_o how_o ought_v we_o always_o to_o depend_v upon_o he_o by_o he_o we_o stand_v and_o without_o he_o we_o fall_v let_v our_o song_n therefore_o always_o be_v of_o he_o and_o let_v his_o praise_n be_v ever_o in_o our_o mouth_n for_o such_o mercy_n as_o we_o have_v of_o he_o and_o let_v we_o pray_v always_o with_o all_o manner_n prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o spirit_n notwithstanding_o etc._n etc._n in_o these_o word_n the_o apostle_n according_a to_o that_o wisdom_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o most_o wise_o commend_v the_o philippian_n for_o their_o liberality_n send_v unto_o he_o for_o the_o apostle_n have_v before_o most_o peremptory_o signify_v his_o constancy_n both_o in_o adversity_n and_o prosperity_n that_o try_v the_o spirit_n which_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n and_o which_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o error_n that_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o put_v a_o difference_n between_o good_a and_o evil_a that_o you_o may_v be_v pure_a in_o doctrine_n in_o life_n and_o in_o manner_n that_o you_o may_v be_v without_o offence_n until_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n yes_o belove_a therefore_o we_o labour_v among_o you_o and_o admonish_v you_o therefore_o we_o show_v you_o the_o whole_a counsel_n of_o god_n therefore_o as_o much_o as_o we_o can_v we_o help_v forward_o your_o knowledge_n therefore_o we_o that_o walk_v not_o as_o they_o ought_v because_o they_o err_v in_o their_o heart_n you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o try_v the_o spirit_n whether_o they_o be_v of_o god_n that_o you_o be_v not_o deceive_v by_o they_o that_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o put_v a_o difference_n between_o thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o that_o you_o may_v fly_v the_o corruption_n which_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o be_v pure_a that_o you_o may_v hold_v a_o right_a course_n and_o be_v without_o offence_n that_o you_o may_v deny_v ungodliness_n and_o worldly_a lust_n and_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n etc._n etc._n and_o if_o for_o these_o end_n we_o thus_o do_v then_o for_o these_o end_n also_o you_o ought_v even_o all_o of_o you_o all_o that_o hear_v we_o to_o labour_v for_o increase_v in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n read_v hear_v meditate_v pray_v every_o holy_a course_n you_o ought_v to_o use_v that_o you_o may_v increase_v and_o abound_v in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n to_o this_o end_n that_o in_o such_o ignorance_n you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v that_o in_o such_o corruption_n you_o may_v be_v pure_a that_o in_o such_o declination_n you_o may_v be_v without_o offence_n unti_fw-la l_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o in_o such_o wallow_n in_o unrighteousness_n you_o may_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o fruit_n etc._n etc._n very_o just_o then_o be_v they_o hence_o to_o be_v reprove_v that_o in_o seek_v after_o knowledge_n even_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n propose_v rather_o any_o other_o end_n which_o they_o shall_v not_o than_o these_o which_o they_o shall_v for_o of_o those_o that_o do_v vouchsafe_v to_o search_v the_o scripture_n many_o there_o be_v who_o ostentation_n that_o man_n may_v think_v and_o speak_v of_o they_o as_o great_a rabbin_n good_a expounder_n of_o the_o law_n and_o very_o skilful_a in_o the_o scripture_n such_o be_v they_o of_o who_o knowledge_n the_o apostle_n speak_v when_o he_o say_v that_o knowledge_n puff_v up_o for_o as_o they_o regard_v nothing_o in_o seek_v after_o knowledge_n but_o a_o vain_a ostentation_n 8.1_o 1_o cor._n 8.1_o so_o have_v attein_v unto_o knowledge_n they_o swell_v and_o look_v so_o big_a as_o if_o all_o knowledge_n be_v shut_v up_o in_o their_o breast_n other_o there_o be_v who_o end_n be_v to_o inform_v their_o own_o understanding_n that_o they_o may_v not_o be_v ignorant_a in_o the_o law_n of_o their_o god_n but_o may_v know_v the_o story_n of_o the_o bible_n the_o course_n and_o meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n such_o be_v they_o that_o delight_n themselves_o only_o with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n but_o show_v not_o any_o fruit_n of_o their_o knowledge_n in_o a_o sober_a honest_a and_o godly_a life_n indeed_o man_n general_o in_o seek_v knowledge_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n aim_v rather_o at_o every_o other_o end_n then_o at_o that_o whereat_o they_o shall_v but_o we_o belove_a may_v not_o be_v like_a unto_o they_o here_o you_o see_v wherefore_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o these_o word_n this_o you_o must_v know_v that_o then_o there_o be_v as_o still_o there_o be_v pestilent_a and_o deceive_a spirit_n which_o trouble_v the_o church_n and_o corrupt_v or_o discredit_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o this_o also_o you_o must_v know_v that_o then_o there_o be_v as_o still_o there_o be_v some_o which_o because_o of_o such_o man_n wilful_o reject_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o other_o which_o foolish_o believe_v every_o spirit_n that_o speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n the_o apostle_n therefore_o will_v they_o and_o in_o they_o we_o neither_o wilful_o to_o reject_v every_o thing_n because_o of_o some_o wicked_a man_n nor_o yet_o foolish_o to_o admit_v every_o thing_n that_o be_v speak_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n but_o to_o try_v and_o sift_v and_o examine_v all_o thing_n by_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o word_n and_o what_o then_o when_o by_o trial_n we_o see_v and_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o he_o will_v we_o to_o keep_v that_o which_o be_v good_a for_o that_o be_v the_o end_n wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o try_v thing_n so_o that_o hence_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v a_o employment_n very_o behooveful_a for_o we_o all_o that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v one_o from_o another_o that_o see_v the_o that_o can_v be_v the_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n which_o they_o do_v give_v again_o if_o the_o rhemist_n have_v think_v these_o word_n to_o have_v make_v any_o whit_n to_o that_o purpose_n it_o be_v very_o like_v they_o will_v not_o have_v fail_v to_o have_v give_v that_o note_n hence_o for_o we_o see_v how_o ready_a they_o be_v to_o wrest_v all_o place_n to_o the_o maintenance_n of_o their_o erroneous_a opinion_n so_o that_o they_o pass_v this_o place_n over_o with_o silence_n it_o be_v very_o like_a that_o they_o otherwise_o think_v of_o the_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n than_o other_o of_o their_o profession_n have_v do_v and_o do_v whether_o then_o we_o look_v unto_o the_o doctrine_n which_o they_o gather_v from_o these_o word_n quite_o repugnant_a unto_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n throughout_o the_o whole_a scripture_n or_o unto_o the_o judgement_n of_o some_o of_o themselves_o as_o it_o may_v seem_v it_o appear_v that_o the_o apostle_n meaning_n be_v not_o as_o our_o adversary_n do_v imagine_v that_o he_o be_v able_a of_o himself_o to_o do_v all_o thing_n not_o only_o the_o thing_n speak_v of_o before_o but_o all_o thing_n general_o which_o the_o law_n of_o god_n require_v through_o the_o help_n of_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v he_o and_o give_v further_a strength_n and_o virtue_n unto_o his_o own_o strength_n and_o virtue_n what_o then_o be_v the_o apostle_n meaning_n in_o these_o word_n sure_o this_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o tenor_n of_o they_o to_o clear_v himself_o of_o boast_v himself_o touch_v the_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v speak_v of_o he_o renounce_v all_o his_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n as_o if_o by_o his_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n he_o have_v be_v able_a to_o do_v those_o thing_n and_o he_o attribute_v all_o unto_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n of_o christ_n say_v i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n even_o all_o the_o thing_n that_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o that_o be_v i_o can_v be_v abase_v and_o i_o can_v abound_v etc._n etc._n for_o so_o this_o universal_a speech_n be_v to_o be_v restrain_v unto_o the_o subject_n and_o matter_n here_o speak_v of_o as_o usual_o it_o be_v in_o other_o shall_v be_v teach_v in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o in_o the_o work_n of_o his_o commandment_n for_o they_o serve_v the_o lord_n jesus_n from_o their_o heart_n pure_o out_o of_o the_o that_o you_o more_o approve_v of_o such_o as_o serve_v that_o man_n of_o sin_n in_o seduce_v you_o by_o tradition_n then_o of_o such_o as_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o apostle_n you_o know_v make_v mention_n of_o some_o bad_a one_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o guess_v who_o at_o this_o day_n do_v most_o resemble_v they_o 3.6_o 2_o tim_n 3.6_o which_o creep_v into_o house_n and_o lead_v captive_a simple_a woman_n lade_v with_o sin_n and_o lead_v with_o diverse_a lust_n etc._n etc._n and_o our_o saviour_n likewise_o make_v mention_n of_o such_o as_o compass_v sea_n and_o land_n to_o make_v one_o of_o their_o profession_n 23.15_o mat._n 23.15_o and_o when_o he_o be_v make_v they_o make_v he_o twofold_a more_o the_o child_n of_o hell_n than_o they_o some_o when_o the_o preacher_n begin_v make_v a_o end_n of_o their_o devotion_n and_o leave_v the_o house_n of_o god_n go_v to_o their_o own_o house_n have_v they_o any_o exception_n against_o we_o do_v we_o teach_v for_o doctrine_n man_n precept_n do_v we_o handle_v the_o word_n deceitful_o do_v we_o keep_v back_o any_o of_o god_n counsel_n nay_o in_o all_o these_o thing_n as_o in_o the_o whole_a work_n of_o our_o ministry_n we_o study_v to_o approve_v ourselves_o both_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o man_n a_o exception_n they_o have_v but_o almost_o they_o know_v not_o what_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o try_v the_o spirit_n whether_o they_o be_v of_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o approve_v they_o which_o prophecy_n lie_v unto_o they_o out_o of_o their_o own_o brain_n but_o you_o belove_v learn_v to_o know_v and_o approve_v he_o who_o give_v plain_a proof_n that_o he_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o sincere_a and_o faithful_a preach_v thereof_o yea_o but_o you_o will_v say_v unto_o i_o we_o will_v glad_o approve_v they_o that_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n but_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v who_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n for_o they_o that_o be_v whole_o devote_a unto_o the_o service_n of_o that_o man_n of_o sin_n and_o prophecy_n lie_v out_o of_o their_o own_o brain_n will_v say_v that_o they_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n aswell_o as_o they_o will_v which_o sincere_o preach_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n unto_o the_o confusion_n of_o that_o man_n of_o sin_n note_v therefore_o that_o the_o apostle_n in_o this_o place_n do_v not_o simple_o say_v of_o timothy_n that_o he_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n but_o that_o he_o serve_v with_o he_o embrace_v and_o themselves_o the_o more_o honour_a and_o esteem_v learn_v you_o then_o man_n and_o brethren_n to_o make_v this_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n 1._o to_o beware_v of_o such_o as_o they_o again_o by_o write_v again_o when_o our_o apostle_n take_v his_o last_o farewell_n of_o see_v the_o ephesian_n any_o more_o how_o careful_o do_v he_o warn_v they_o of_o false_a teacher_n take_v spiritual_a worship_n of_o god_n there_o be_v no_o people_n so_o far_o without_o god_n in_o this_o world_n jew_n or_o gentile_a turk_n or_o other_o but_o that_o both_o they_o know_v there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o likewise_o think_v they_o worship_v he_o with_o true_a worship_n but_o how_o a_o great_a many_o nation_n and_o language_n shall_v either_o know_v the_o true_a god_n or_o true_o worship_v he_o it_o can_v scarce_o be_v imagine_v see_v they_o want_v the_o holy_a word_n of_o life_n where_o alone_o we_o both_o clear_o know_v he_o and_o likewise_o how_o to_o worship_v he_o nay_o how_o such_o as_o be_v forbid_v of_o marriage_n and_o forbid_v of_o meat_n to_o some_o man_n at_o all_o time_n and_o to_o all_o man_n at_o sometime_o under_o pretence_n of_o holy_a religion_n and_o devout_a of_o the_o circumcision_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o of_o his_o tribe_n of_o his_o stock_n of_o his_o religion_n of_o his_o zeal_n yea_o and_o lest_o he_o shall_v seem_v to_o leave_v out_o any_o thing_n without_o christ_n wherein_o he_o have_v any_o confidence_n he_o speak_v express_o of_o all_o thing_n without_o christ_n that_o for_o christ_n he_o count_v all_o thing_n loss_n so_o that_o the_o conclusion_n though_o most_o hard_o will_v not_o be_v avoid_v but_o that_o they_o that_o trust_v to_o be_v save_v by_o their_o merit_n be_v not_o circumcise_v with_o the_o true_a and_o spiritual_a circumcision_n but_o be_v as_o yet_o stranger_n from_o the_o covenant_n of_o promise_n and_o have_v no_o inheritance_n among_o the_o son_n of_o god_n let_v we_o therefore_o man_n and_o brethren_n renounce_v all_o confidence_n in_o any_o thing_n without_o christ_n whatsoever_o and_o let_v we_o trust_v only_o in_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n jesus_n he_o alone_o be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o christ_n and_o christ_n with_o we_o and_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o sensible_o represent_v unto_o our_o eye_n and_o taste_n as_o that_o our_o faith_n be_v full_o assure_v thereof_o so_o that_o henceforth_o we_o know_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o christ_n be_v we_o together_o with_o whatsoever_o be_v he_o but_o if_o we_o present_v ourselves_o at_o these_o holy_a mystery_n without_o due_a preparation_n and_o examination_n of_o ourselves_o we_o have_v no_o such_o benefit_n but_o rather_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n prove_v therefore_o yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n whether_o you_o feel_v your_o heart_n assure_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o the_o punishment_n of_o your_o sin_n be_v full_o discharge_v in_o christ_n and_o that_o whatsoever_o christ_n have_v do_v pertain_v not_o only_o to_o other_o but_o even_o to_o you_o also_o if_o you_o believe_v these_o thing_n and_o know_v soul_n that_o christ_n be_v all_o in_o all_o unto_o they_o they_o know_v not_o what_o christ_n be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o his_o child_n they_o have_v a_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n but_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o seize_v upon_o their_o soul_n and_o therefore_o they_o do_v not_o know_v the_o full_a sweetness_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o full_a worth_n of_o christ_n for_o if_o they_o know_v in_o their_o own_o soul_n that_o christ_n be_v make_v of_o god_n unto_o they_o wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n sanctification_n and_o redemption_n they_o will_v only_o rejoice_v in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o have_v no_o confidence_n in_o the_o flesh_n but_o therefore_o they_o rejoice_v in_o the_o flesh_n and_o have_v confidence_n in_o their_o own_o work_n and_o in_o their_o own_o righteousness_n because_o they_o know_v not_o christ_n if_o therefore_o we_o will_v know_v christ_n with_o a_o save_a knowledge_n and_o a_o feel_a knowledge_n of_o he_o in_o ourselves_o we_o must_v utter_o renounce_v all_o confidence_n in_o our_o own_o merit_n and_o all_o trust_n in_o our_o own_o righteousness_n whatsoever_o what_o shall_v we_o say_v then_o unto_o they_o that_o stand_v upon_o
