a_o care_n over_o i_o to_o try_v and_o examine_v i_o but_o no_o man_n can_v do_v this_o so_o profitable_o to_o i_o as_o i_o myself_o and_o though_o we_o have_v never_o so_o many_o tryer_n and_o examiner_n all_o be_v nothing_o if_o we_o try_v not_o ourselves_o so_o whether_o there_o be_v a_o second_o or_o a_o three_o tryer_n and_o examiner_n let_v ourselves_o be_v one_o and_o the_o first_o ability_n to_o try_v himself_o be_v a_o profane_a comer_n come_v unclean_o and_o therefore_o must_v needs_o come_v to_o his_o own_o destruction_n let_v every_o man_n therefore_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n grow_v in_o understanding_n grow_v in_o the_o spirit_n that_o he_o may_v be_v the_o more_o able_a to_o try_v and_o examine_v his_o own_o conscience_n to_o the_o end_n that_o you_o may_v the_o hart_n resemble_v the_o righteous_a judgement_n of_o god_n follow_v upon_o a_o deed_n do_v by_o we_o flow_v from_o a_o knowledge_n in_o the_o mind_n a_o feeling_n accompany_v with_o a_o motion_n thou_o ought_v to_o take_v heed_n to_o thy_o conscience_n and_o last_o of_o all_o in_o respect_n that_o the_o health_n of_o thy_o soul_n stand_v in_o the_o estate_n of_o thy_o conscience_n and_o if_o thy_o soul_n be_v in_o good_a health_n thy_o body_n can_v be_v ill_o therefore_o in_o respect_n that_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n depend_v upon_o the_o estate_n of_o the_o conscience_n every_o one_o with_o god_n or_o not_o second_o whether_o your_o conscience_n be_v in_o love_n in_o charity_n and_o in_o amity_n with_o your_o neighbour_n or_o not_o in_o these_o two_o point_n chief_o you_o must_v try_v and_o examine_v yourselves_o to_o know_v whether_o you_o be_v at_o peace_n with_o god_n or_o not_o you_o must_v first_o try_v whether_o you_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n or_o not_o as_o the_o apostle_n
turn_v to_o god_n &_o so_o conjoin_v thou_o with_o god_n &_o make_v all_o thy_o action_n well_o pleass_v unto_o he_o there_o be_v no_o good_a action_n that_o we_o do_v though_o it_o seem_v never_o so_o good_a before_o the_o world_n but_o it_o be_v abomination_n before_o god_n if_o it_o be_v not_o do_v in_o faith_n and_o will_v forward_o our_o condemnation_n have_v faith_n all_o the_o creature_n and_o by_o the_o draw_n of_o the_o spirit_n i_o understand_v no_o other_o thing_n but_o the_o frame_n and_o create_v of_o faith_n in_o our_o soul_n which_o make_v we_o new_a creature_n now_o let_v we_o see_v what_o order_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n keep_v in_o draw_v we_o and_o inform_v and_o create_v this_o faith_n in_o our_o soul_n first_o of_o all_o i_o divide_v the_o soul_n into_o no_o or_o other_o this_o be_v set_v up_o in_o the_o throne_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o on_o this_o idol_n thou_o bestow_v the_o service_n of_o thy_o whole_a heart_n of_o thy_o whole_a mind_n of_o thy_o whole_a soul_n and_o body_n so_o that_o the_o service_n both_o of_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n which_o shall_v be_v bestow_v upon_o god_n only_o be_v employ_v upon_o that_o idol_n which_o be_v set_v up_o in_o thy_o heart_n that_o be_v in_o the_o place_n of_o god_n in_o the_o steed_n of_o the_o most_o high_a god_n and_o thou_o be_v more_o addict_v to_o the_o service_n of_o that_o idol_n than_o say_v whether_o you_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n or_o not_o for_o be_v in_o the_o faith_n and_o justify_v thereby_o on_o necessity_n you_o must_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n then_o the_o be_v send_v &_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o sacrament_n as_o ordinary_a mean_n and_o instrument_n which_o ordinary_a mean_n be_v only_o then_o effectual_a when_o as_o the_o holy_a spirit_n concur_v inward_o in_o our_o heart_n with_o the_o word_n strike_v outward_o in_o our_o ear_n and_o with_o the_o sacrament_n outward_o receive_v and_o except_o the_o holy_a spirit_n grant_v his_o concurrence_n to_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n word_n and_o sacrament_n both_o will_v not_o work_v faith_n so_o all_o depend_v upon_o the_o work_n of_o this_o holy_a spirit_n the_o whole_a regeneration_n of_o mankind_n the_o renew_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o of_o the_o conscience_n depend_v on_o the_o power_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o therefore_o it_o behove_v we_o careful_o to_o employ_v ourselves_o in_o call_v upon_o god_n for_o his_o holy_a spirit_n by_o the_o same_o mean_n and_o no_o other_o that_o the_o holy_a spirit_n beget_v faith_n in_o we_o by_o the_o same_o mean_n he_o nourish_v and_o augment_v that_o which_o he_o have_v beget_v and_o therefore_o as_o we_o get_v faith_n by_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n so_o by_o continual_a and_o diligent_a hear_n we_o have_v this_o faith_n his_o mercy_n examine_v i_o say_v whether_o this_o darkness_n of_o the_o natural_a understanding_n be_v turn_v into_o light_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o not_o if_o thou_o be_v become_v a_o child_n of_o the_o light_n a_o child_n of_o the_o day_n if_o thou_o be_v become_v as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v light_a in_o the_o lord_n if_o there_o be_v this_o alteration_n make_v in_o thy_o mind_n that_o whereas_o natural_o before_o it_o be_v close_v up_o in_o darkness_n whereas_o it_o be_v fill_v with_o vanity_n and_o error_n wheren_n it_o be_v close_v up_o in_o blindness_n if_o the_o lord_n have_v at_o any_o time_n enlighten_v the_o eye_n of_o thy_o mind_n and_o make_v thou_o to_o see_v thy_o own_o misery_n to_o see_v the_o ugliness_n of_o thy_o own_o nature_n to_o see_v the_o grace_n in_o christ_n no_o doubt_n the_o holy_a spirit_n have_v begin_v a_o good_a work_n work_n in_o thou_o a_o work_n which_o will_v bring_v forth_o repentance_n which_o in_o his_o own_o time_n he_o will_v perfect_v so_o this_o be_v the_o first_o care_n which_o you_o ought_v to_o have_v and_o the_o first_o point_n wherein_o you_o ought_v to_o examine_v your_o mind_n to_o see_v if_o there_o be_v any_o light_n in_o it_o whereby_o you_o may_v know_v your_o misery_n and_o have_v a_o insight_n of_o the_o free_a mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n this_o be_v do_v that_o thou_o find_v a_o
