into_o the_o way_n of_o peace_n and_o rest._n this_o sure_a word_n of_o god_n be_v give_v by_o god_n unto_o man_n to_o direct_v man_n unto_o god_n and_o to_o effect_v this_o it_o have_v a_o power_n to_o make_v the_o child_n of_o man_n the_o son_n of_o god_n yea_o it_o have_v a_o power_n to_o nourish_v this_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a sonship_n &_o so_o bestow_v a_o gift_n of_o growth_n as_o well_o as_o a_o gift_n of_o life_n for_o it_o cause_v the_o son_n and_o heir_n of_o god_n to_o grow_v unto_o their_o perfect_a stature_n of_o grace_n &_o glory_n the_o great_a spirit_n of_o god_n which_o pour_v that_o portion_n of_o the_o spirit_n into_o we_o wherein_o lie_v our_o sanctification_n and_o seal_v pour_v also_o in_o the_o prophet_n seer_n and_o apostle_n the_o word_n and_o counsel_n of_o god_n so_o the_o spirit_n within_o we_o and_o the_o word_n without_o we_o be_v near_o of_o kin_n they_o have_v one_o father_n even_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v god_n and_o be_v work_v towards_o the_o increase_n of_o our_o spiritual_a estate_n by_o heavenly_a traffic_n and_o merchandise_n that_o the_o talent_n of_o grace_n be_v increase_v may_v increase_v the_o talent_n of_o glory_n but_o now_o perchance_o it_o will_v be_v demand_v what_o these_o help_n be_v by_o which_o the_o man_n of_o god_n may_v enlarge_v his_o stature_n and_o grow_v up_o to_o his_o head_n christ_n jesus_n for_o satisfaction_n to_o which_o demand_n i_o will_v point_v he_o to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o treasure_n of_o the_o perfect_a knowledge_n of_o this_o art_n of_o felicity_n but_o yet_o to_o give_v some_o stay_n to_o hungry_a soul_n that_o present_o desire_v the_o prosperity_n of_o the_o spirit_n &_o will_v not_o be_v delay_v i_o may_v name_v some_o of_o the_o chief_a though_o likewise_o i_o may_v leave_v other_o unnamed_a to_o stir_v they_o up_o somewhat_o to_o seek_v for_o their_o own_o provision_n and_o here_o as_o the_o first_o mean_n of_o increase_v the_o spirit_n i_o will_v name_v the_o increase_n of_o those_o mean_n by_o which_o the_o spirit_n be_v first_o receive_v we_o must_v strive_v to_o increase_v that_o faith_n and_o affiance_n by_o which_o we_o cleave_v unto_o christ_n christ_n cleave_v unto_o us._n for_o the_o more_o we_o cleave_v unto_o christ_n the_o more_o christ_n cleave_v unto_o we_o the_o more_o we_o comprehend_v he_o the_o seal_n of_o his_o word_n we_o can_v choose_v if_o we_o be_v spiritual_a but_o we_o must_v plain_o look_v on_o christ_n himself_o for_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n be_v the_o image_n of_o christ_n he_o have_v stamp_v on_o it_o his_o own_o likeness_n and_o therein_o we_o may_v see_v he_o bear_v live_a teach_v die_a &_o rise_v again_o therein_o may_v we_o behold_v his_o grace_n and_o gift_n his_o excellency_n and_o dignity_n his_o love_n unto_o man_n and_o his_o labour_n for_o men._n the_o sacrament_n also_o christ_n have_v imprint_v with_o his_o own_o resemblance_n and_o they_o be_v the_o character_n and_o representation_n of_o christ._n so_o in_o they_o may_v we_o see_v christ_n redeem_v by_o passion_n and_o wash_v by_o regeneration_n feed_v and_o quicken_n by_o vivification_n yea_o and_o not_o to_o fulfil_v the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o the_o heedless_a man_n he_o have_v rage_v he_o have_v lust_v he_o have_v covet_v before_o he_o think_v he_o do_v so_o and_o as_o a_o most_o good_a but_o he_o that_o will_v serious_o inquire_v for_o true_a happiness_n must_v in_o his_o inquiry_n lie_v aside_o his_o body_n and_o the_o doctrine_n thereof_o and_o he_o must_v retire_v into_o his_o innermost_a and_o most_o secret_a closet_n of_o light_n and_o reason_n and_o there_o ask_v of_o his_o soul_n assure_v truth_n and_o resolution_n concern_v his_o chief_a and_o sovereign_a good_n yea_o because_o the_o darkness_n of_o a_o heavy_a and_o sensual_a body_n since_o the_o fall_n subject_a to_o corruption_n have_v much_o dim_v the_o light_n of_o the_o soul_n she_o have_v need_n to_o return_v to_o that_o uppermost_a light_n by_o which_o at_o first_o she_o be_v kindle_v thence_o to_o receive_v a_o second_o enlighten_v that_o by_o a_o addition_n of_o the_o high_a light_n she_o may_v find_v out_o her_o high_a &_o chief_a happiness_n the_o soul_n thus_o rectify_v labour_n and_o in_o some_o measure_n attain_v to_o behold_v thing_n in_o their_o truth_n as_o also_o to_o see_v the_o difference_n of_o thing_n confound_v or_o misorder_a by_o the_o ignorance_n of_o corruption_n and_o to_o place_v each_o thing_n in_o his_o due_a rank_n and_o consequent_o the_o chief_a and_o sovereign_a good_a far_o above_o all_o as_o indeed_o to_o the_o eye_n of_o wisdom_n it_o shine_v in_o a_o notable_a and_o manifest_a supereminence_n and_o as_o she_o give_v due_a acknowledgement_n to_o this_o good_a be_v discover_v so_o she_o call_v aloud_o to_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n to_o strive_v towards_o it_o be_v know_v and_o acknowledge_v she_o advise_v they_o to_o set_v up_o their_o rest_n upon_o it_o to_o adventure_v all_o for_o it_o and_o never_o to_o leave_v labour_v until_o the_o soul_n and_o happiness_n be_v join_v together_o chap._n ii_o how_o that_o must_v be_v condition_v which_o be_v the_o end_n and_o happiness_n of_o man._n now_o if_o with_o such_o wise_a searcher_n of_o felicity_n we_o shall_v make_v the_o like_a enquiry_n examine_v all_o thing_n in_o their_o weight_n and_o worth_n we_o must_v needs_o meet_v in_o one_o truth_n truth_n be_v but_o one_o even_o a_o common_a centre_n in_o which_o all_o rectify_a understanding_n meet_v the_o more_o wise_a a_o man_n be_v the_o more_o possession_n have_v he_o of_o this_o truth_n and_o therefore_o whosoever_o can_v challenge_v to_o himself_o to_o be_v the_o wise_a of_o man_n he_o must_v also_o be_v the_o large_a discoverer_n of_o happiness_n and_o with_o he_o especial_o shall_v other_o wisdom_n meet_v even_o of_o necessity_n now_o that_o we_o firm_o ground_v our_o discovery_n let_v we_o first_o inquire_v what_o condition_n that_o thing_n must_v have_v which_o shall_v be_v the_o happiness_n of_o man._n that_o which_o shall_v make_v man_n happy_a must_v first_o be_v able_a to_o bestow_v on_o man_n a_o absence_n of_o misery_n for_o happiness_n &_o misery_n can_v dwell_v together_o in_o one_o subject_n again_o it_o must_v give_v a_o man_n a_o real_a possession_n and_o enjoy_n of_o the_o chief_a good_a and_o that_o in_o perpetuity_n &_o everlastingness_n man_n must_v possess_v the_o sovereign_n good_a for_o he_o can_v never_o be_v happy_a by_o enjoy_v imperfection_n but_o that_o only_a which_o be_v perfect_o good_a can_v make_v a_o man_n perfect_o happy_a he_o must_v also_o enjoy_v this_o sovereign_a good_a in_o a_o perpetuity_n else_o the_o fear_n of_o lose_v happiness_n must_v needs_o lose_v part_n of_o it_o before_o it_o be_v lose_v and_o if_o not_o so_o yet_o he_o can_v be_v term_v happy_a who_o shall_v have_v a_o time_n when_o he_o shall_v be_v without_o happiness_n and_o sure_o if_o we_o find_v a_o sovereign_a good_a which_o be_v everlasting_a it_o will_v bestow_v itself_o on_o we_o in_o it_o own_o nature_n even_o everlasting_o last_o the_o beatifical_a object_n of_o man_n must_v be_v the_o most_o agreeable_a object_n of_o his_o most_o excellent_a part_n now_o man_n chief_a part_n be_v a_o lightsome_a reasonable_a and_o understand_v spirit_n therefore_o that_o from_o which_o can_v issue_v unto_o man_n
