master_n there_o be_v no_o upright_a man_n who_o measure_v his_o obligation_n to_o a_o duty_n by_o the_o event_n and_o success_n of_o it_o every_o man_n that_o will_v have_v a_o peaceful_a conscience_n must_v do_v what_o become_v he_o and_o leave_v the_o issue_n of_o it_o to_o god_n but_o however_o he_o must_v do_v it_o with_o all_o the_o discretion_n he_o can_v too_o and_o his_o duty_n will_v direct_v he_o here_o how_o to_o perform_v another_o duty_n which_o seem_v harsh_a and_o hazardous_a for_o instance_n in_o this_o case_n charity_n to_o the_o son_n will_v so_o regulate_v the_o servant_n faith_n to_o his_o master_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o only_o do_v his_o duty_n but_o do_v it_o with_o true_a discretion_n thus_o charity_n will_v direct_v he_o first_o as_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o child_n offence_n that_o he_o be_v not_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o little_a frailty_n and_o inconsiderable_a defect_n much_o less_o to_o complain_v of_o they_o to_o his_o parent_n for_o this_o be_v if_o not_o a_o peevish_a malignity_n of_o spirit_n yet_o at_o least_o a_o busy_a and_o officious_a piece_n of_o impertinence_n not_o without_o some_o mixture_n of_o defect_n of_o charity_n but_o such_o matter_n wherein_o the_o virtue_n the_o honour_n the_o health_n the_o interest_n of_o the_o child_n and_o consequent_o the_o happiness_n and_o comfort_n of_o the_o parent_n be_v concern_v deserve_v the_o servant_n care_n and_o faith_n but_o second_o in_o error_n of_o this_o nature_n charity_n will_v teach_v he_o to_o distinguish_v between_o a_o slip_n or_o fall_v and_o a_o settle_a depravity_n of_o mind_n or_o vicious_a habit_n in_o the_o child_n so_o that_o as_o he_o will_v not_o complain_v at_o all_o of_o little_a and_o trifle_a error_n so_o neither_o will_v he_o too_o soon_o of_o great_a and_o in_o the_o last_o place_n when_o he_o shall_v be_v convince_v of_o the_o indispensible_a necessity_n of_o make_v know_v the_o fault_n of_o a_o child_n charity_n will_v teach_v he_o that_o he_o shall_v proceed_v in_o this_o with_o all_o imaginable_a mildness_n not_o aggravate_v or_o amplify_a the_o crime_n and_o that_o he_o shall_v use_v all_o imaginable_a caution_n both_o to_o prevent_v any_o mischievous_a effect_n of_o such_o discovery_n and_o to_o secure_a as_o much_o as_o in_o he_o lie_v the_o good_a success_n of_o it_o and_o here_o charity_n seem_v to_o i_o to_o point_v out_o the_o way_n to_o this_o and_o to_o tell_v you_o that_o first_o you_o be_v to_o try_v what_o you_o can_v effect_v yourself_o by_o a_o modest_a humble_a &_o affectionate_a representation_n to_o your_o young_a master_n of_o the_o sin_n and_o hazard_v wherein_o he_o be_v engage_v for_o if_o this_o may_v prevail_v it_o be_v not_o so_o charitable_a to_o bring_v he_o into_o peril_n of_o his_o father_n displeasure_n or_o disesteem_a but_o if_o this_o sort_n to_o no_o good_a end_n you_o can_v be_v bind_v by_o faith_n and_o secrecy_n to_o your_o young_a master_n to_o betray_v your_o faith_n and_o duty_n to_o your_o old_a for_o this_o be_v in_o effect_n but_o to_o betray_v both_o you_o must_v therefore_o either_o make_v know_v the_o son_n ill_a course_n to_o his_o father_n or_o if_o there_o be_v apparent_a reason_n to_o apprehend_v no_o good_a effect_n of_o this_o way_n but_o rather_o ill_a one_o for_o want_n of_o a_o well_o poise_v judgement_n or_o tolerable_a temper_n in_o the_o father_n you_o must_v then_o put_v the_o business_n into_o the_o hand_n of_o some_o faithful_a and_o discreet_a friend_n who_o authority_n and_o good_a nature_n may_v so_o far_o mitigate_v the_o violent_a choler_n and_o sweeten_v the_o implacable_a temper_n of_o the_o father_n that_o the_o son_n virtue_n may_v be_v repair_v without_o the_o ruin_n of_o his_o fortune_n i_o have_v in_o this_o advice_n insinuate_v that_o as_o a_o servant_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v peevish_a and_o impertinent_a in_o complain_v of_o trifle_a fault_n so_o neither_o ought_v he_o to_o be_v too_o forward_o in_o reveal_v great_a much_o less_o ought_v he_o to_o exaggerate_v and_o exulcerate_v the_o crime_n but_o my_o meaning_n be_v not_o that_o his_o information_n shall_v want_v any_o one_o grain_n or_o scruple_n of_o truth_n necessary_a to_o give_v the_o friend_n or_o father_n a_o right_a notion_n of_o the_o offence_n nor_o yet_o that_o he_o shall_v delay_v the_o discovery_n of_o a_o fault_n where_o the_o concealment_n breed_v danger_n but_o if_o he_o can_v trust_v his_o own_o judgement_n in_o this_o point_n and_o the_o issue_n of_o his_o delay_n seem_v doubtful_a to_o he_o he_o must_v then_o consult_v some_o body_n else_o who_o judgement_n he_o may_v better_o rely_v upon_o and_o who_o affection_n both_o to_o father_n and_o son_n he_o can_v be_v very_o confident_a of_o the_o servant_n who_o behave_v himself_o thus_o in_o this_o case_n acquit_v himself_o with_o a_o good_a conscience_n towards_o god_n and_o man_n he_o do_v both_o very_a considerable_a service_n for_o there_o can_v be_v nothing_o more_o acceptable_a to_o god_n than_o the_o convert_n a_o sinner_n from_o his_o evil_a way_n nor_o to_o a_o father_n than_o the_o preservation_n of_o a_o child_n just_a on_o the_o brink_n of_o misery_n nor_o indeed_o to_o the_o son_n than_o the_o restore_v he_o to_o his_o virtue_n &_o the_o preserve_n to_o he_o that_o honour_n and_o fortune_n which_o be_v both_o ready_a to_o suffer_v wreck_n so_o that_o this_o servant_n will_v hereby_o procure_v to_o himself_o the_o everlasting_a goodwill_n of_o his_o master_n and_o child_n the_o peace_n of_o his_o own_o
