of_o they_o be_v to_o be_v judge_v from_o thence_o that_o christ_n be_v the_o eternal_a son_n of_o god_n that_o he_o take_v upon_o he_o our_o nature_n die_v for_o sinner_n in_o short_a all_o the_o main_a proposition_n of_o religion_n all_o proposition_n immediate_o concern_v our_o salvation_n all_o article_n of_o faith_n be_v thing_n which_o fall_v not_o under_o the_o demonstration_n of_o reason_n 3._o there_o be_v therefore_o three_o a_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n st._n paul_n tell_v we_o his_o preach_v be_v in_o the_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v attend_v with_o the_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o let_v scoffer_n say_v what_o they_o will_v if_o this_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n attend_v not_o all_o our_o preach_v we_o do_v but_o beat_v the_o air_n and_o labour_n in_o vain_a logician_n right_o tell_v we_o of_o two_o sort_n of_o argument_n the_o one_o they_o call_v topic_n the_o other_o demonstration_n the_o difference_n of_o they_o lie_v in_o the_o effect_n they_o have_v upon_o our_o mind_n the_o former_a make_v a_o thing_n only_o probable_a to_o we_o the_o other_o make_v it_o certain_a if_o a_o notion_n appear_v only_o probable_a to_o we_o we_o have_v some_o doubt_n and_o fear_n and_o suspicion_n about_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o nothing_o be_v demonstrate_v to_o we_o but_o that_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o which_o we_o have_v no_o further_a doubt_n against_o which_o we_o can_v make_v no_o objection_n now_o nothing_o but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n thus_o teach_v the_o gift_n of_o minister_n be_v various_a the_o discourse_n of_o some_o may_v be_v mere_a word_n oratorial_n discourse_n these_o of_o all_o other_o have_v lest_o influence_n upon_o any_o but_o airy_a soul_n other_o more_o mind_n their_o work_n and_o know_v that_o nothing_o but_o the_o word_n of_o god_n lay_v hold_v on_o the_o conscience_n endeavour_v to_o prove_v what_o they_o say_v by_o holy_a writ_n and_o some_o in_o this_o be_v more_o happy_a than_o other_o as_o they_o be_v more_o skill_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o they_o other_o be_v more_o rational_a in_o their_o discourse_n man_n of_o great_a part_n cor._n 2._o 10._o have_v reveal_v they_o to_o we_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o v_o 12._o we_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n which_o be_v of_o god_n that_o we_o may_v know_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v free_o give_v we_o of_o god_n so_o as_o that_o i_o say_v god_n must_v show_v some_o special_a token_n of_o his_o love_n to_o our_o soul_n for_o good_a before_o we_o can_v show_v any_o love_n to_o he_o the_o original_a difference_n betwixt_o a_o person_n true_o pious_a and_o pant_v after_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n and_o other_o lie_v here_o these_o creature_n know_v that_o they_o have_v soul_n soul_n ordain_v to_o a_o eternal_a existence_n either_o in_o hÄ—ll_n or_o heaven_n in_o eternal_a happiness_n or_o in_o eternal_a misery_n they_o believe_v what_o god_n have_v say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o other_o name_n under_o heaven_n by_o which_o man_n and_o woman_n can_v be_v save_v but_o only_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n christ_n neither_o be_v there_o salvation_n in_o any_o other_o that_o he_o that_o believe_v on_o he_o be_v not_o condemn_v and_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o be_v damn_v already_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o and_o he_o shall_v never_o see_v life_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o goodness_n apprehend_v by_o evidence_v and_o appear_v to_o we_o all_o the_o apprehension_n that_o it_o be_v possible_a a_o natural_a man_n shall_v have_v of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n must_v be_v from_o read_v hear_v or_o its_o own_o reason_v and_o conclude_v from_o what_o it_o have_v so_o hear_v or_o read_v for_o it_o want_v both_o the_o demonstrative_a persuasion_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o also_o any_o experimental_a taste_n or_o sensible_a evidence_n all_o knowledge_n which_o have_v no_o better_a foundation_n will_v arise_v no_o high_o than_o to_o beget_v in_o the_o soul_n a_o opinion_n and_o leave_v the_o soul_n at_o some_o incertainty_n and_o unfixed_a and_o hence_o its_o motion_n towards_o a_o object_n of_o which_o it_o have_v no_o better_a evidence_n be_v also_o incertain_a and_o faint_a and_o fluctuate_a knowledge_n be_v the_o foundation_n of_o desire_n reason_n will_v tell_v we_o that_o the_o desire_n must_v bear_v proportion_n with_o the_o knowledge_n the_o unregenerate_a man_n have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o spiritual_a thing_n that_o be_v productive_a of_o more_o than_o a_o opinion_n the_o desire_n must_v be_v incertain_a and_o faint_a according_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o opinion_n that_o cause_v it_o 4._o by_o this_o also_o christian_n may_v be_v able_a to_o take_v some_o measure_n and_o make_v up_o some_o judgement_n of_o themselves_o whether_o the_o desire_n they_o find_v in_o their_o soul_n after_o christ_n and_o his_o love_n be_v such_o as_o be_v peculiar_a to_o the_o soul_n of_o believer_n yea_o or_o no._n we_o usual_o say_v that_o desire_v after_o grace_n be_v evidence_n of_o it_o and_o there_o be_v a_o truth_n in_o it_o but_o all_o desire_n be_v not_o so_o for_o as_o i_o have_v say_v there_o may_v be_v desire_n after_o christ_n and_o his_o love_n in_o a_o unregenerate_a man_n commensurate_a to_o that_o knowledge_n which_o he_o have_v of_o the_o goodness_n of_o they_o but_o this_o will_v speak_v nothing_o of_o good_a to_o the_o soul_n only_o such_o desire_n as_o flow_v from_o a_o christian_n knowledge_n of_o faith_n and_o from_o experience_n he_o that_o have_v only_o a_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o love_n from_o read_v the_o word_n or_o from_o the_o report_n of_o minister_n may_v so_o far_o desire_v christ_n love_n as_o may_v serve_v he_o for_o his_o own_o end_n nay_o though_o he_o have_v no_o great_a faith_n as_o to_o that_o eternal_a state_n of_o happiness_n to_o which_o christ_n bring_v the_o soul_n but_o have_v only_o receive_v notion_n of_o such_o ablessed_a state_n to_o which_o he_o give_v no_o great_a credit_n yet_o for_o his_o own_o security_n because_o his_o notion_n may_v be_v true_a though_o he_o have_v no_o great_a fix_a persuasion_n of_o they_o he_o may_v yet_o desire_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n so_o far_o as_o to_o bring_v he_o to_o

for_o we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o complain_v of_o god_n not_o do_v what_o be_v true_o and_o pure_o his_o part_n while_o we_o have_v not_o do_v what_o be_v our_o part_n and_o in_o our_o power_n now_o though_o the_o change_n of_o the_o heart_n be_v a_o act_n of_o divine_a power_n yet_o act_n of_o moral_a discipline_n and_o the_o avoid_v gross_a and_o scandalous_a sin_n and_o the_o performance_n of_o some_o religious_a duty_n which_o god_n have_v prescribe_v as_o mean_n though_o not_o in_o themselves_o sufficient_a and_o effectual_a be_v thing_n within_o our_o power_n with_o the_o assistance_n only_o of_o that_o common_a grace_n which_o god_n deny_v to_o none_o to_o who_o he_o do_v not_o deny_v the_o gospel_n and_o in_o these_o the_o holy_a spirit_n may_v be_v oppose_v
