who_o be_v the_o captain_n of_o our_o salvation_n who_o be_v our_o high_a priest_n who_o be_v ascend_v into_o heaven_n and_o enter_v into_o the_o holy_a of_o all_o make_v without_o hand_n as_o the_o high_a priest_n under_o the_o law_n he_o enter_v into_o the_o holy_a place_n make_v with_o hand_n not_o without_o blood_n which_o he_o offer_v for_o himself_o and_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o people_n in_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n have_v he_o appear_v to_o put_v away_o sin_n by_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o himself_o heb._n 9.24_o and_o he_o be_v able_a also_o to_o save_v they_o to_o the_o utmost_a that_o come_v unto_o god_n by_o he_o see_v he_o ever_o live_v to_o make_v intercession_n for_o they_o and_o god_n the_o father_n have_v regard_n to_o the_o prevail_a intercession_n of_o his_o son_n he_o he_o hear_v always_o and_o if_o we_o pray_v in_o faith_n and_o in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n our_o prayer_n shall_v enter_v into_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o father_n as_o the_o father_n hear_v the_o son_n always_o so_o he_o hear_v those_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o pray_v in_o his_o name_n they_o be_v sure_a to_o receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n whereby_o they_o cry_v abba_n father_n therefore_o ask_v in_o his_o name_n and_o receive_v that_o your_o joy_n may_v be_v full_a you_o shall_v receive_v fullness_n of_o joy_n that_o will_v give_v satisfaction_n to_o your_o soul_n and_o you_o shall_v receive_v a_o double_a portion_n of_o the_o divine_a spirit_n and_o come_v with_o a_o filial_a confidence_n and_o humble_a boldness_n to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o his_o own_o if_o you_o have_v fix_v your_o faith_n upon_o this_o and_o if_o you_o have_v a_o live_a faith_n in_o your_o heart_n iâ—_n will_v open_v to_o you_o and_o give_v you_o the_o comfort_n of_o it_o i_o say_v it_o be_v a_o lamentation_n and_o may_v be_v for_o a_o lamentation_n that_o the_o true_a faith_n of_o it_o be_v so_o little_o preach_v in_o christendom_n therefore_o christendom_n be_v as_o a_o wilderness_n which_o may_v have_v be_v as_o the_o garden_n of_o the_o lord_n
it_o that_o it_o may_v bring_v forth_o more_o fruit._n he_o cut_v and_o dress_v it_o with_o his_o pruning-knife_n that_o he_o may_v cut_v off_o fruitless_a and_o superfluous_a branch_n you_o may_v take_v notice_n from_o hence_o that_o it_o be_v manifest_a that_o those_o that_o be_v graft_v into_o christ_n and_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n they_o may_v have_v some_o superfluity_n that_o may_v need_v cut_v off_o but_o so_o long_o as_o the_o branch_n bring_v forth_o fruit_n the_o husbandman_n will_v not_o cut_v it_o off_o if_o there_o be_v any_o life_n or_o virtue_n in_o it_o he_o will_v spare_v it_o that_o it_o may_v become_v fruitful_a god_n be_v the_o wise_a husbandman_n every_o branch_n that_o bear_v fruit_n he_o purge_v it_o that_o it_o may_v bring_v forth_o more_o fruit_n he_o come_v with_o his_o prune_v knife_n and_o cut_v off_o the_o superfluous_a branch_n that_o the_o fruitful_a branch_n may_v grow_v and_o flourish_v by_o the_o sap_n and_o moisture_n they_o receive_v from_o the_o heavenly_a vine_n as_o new_o bear_v babe_n say_v the_o apostle_n desire_v the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n that_o you_o may_v grow_v thereby_o those_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n may_v have_v some_o superfluity_n if_o we_o may_v be_v as_o instrument_n to_o cut_v off_o those_o superfluity_n and_o save_v the_o branch_n it_o be_v well_o in_o this_o parable_n of_o the_o vine_n represent_v god_n as_o the_o husbandman_n christ_n as_o the_o vine_n and_o believer_n as_o the_o branch_n god_n the_o father_n act_v the_o part_n of_o a_o husbandman_n what_o be_v the_o office_n that_o god_n exercise_v towards_o christ_n the_o vine_n under_o this_o figure_n metaphor_n and_o allegory_n represent_v he_o as_o a_o husbandman_n we_o know_v what_o christ_n the_o true_a vine_n do_v to_o we_o that_o be_v branch_n if_o we_o be_v graft_v by_o faith_n into_o he_o he_o supply_v we_o with_o heavenly_a sap_n and_o moisture_n the_o vine_n give_v sap_n and_o moisture_n to_o every_o branch_n it_o have_v such_o plenty_n of_o sap_n and_o moisture_n and_o fatness_n in_o itself_o as_o to_o make_v every_o branch_n fruitful_a there_o be_v no_o want_n in_o christ_n the_o good_a vine_n to_o minister_v and_o convey_v heavenly_a sap_n and_o virtue_n to_o every_o branch_n that_o abide_v in_o he_o we_o now_o understand_v what_o the_o office_n of_o christ_n the_o true_a vine_n be_v to_o believer_n that_o be_v the_o branch_n and_o what_o he_o do_v to_o they_o but_o may_n some_o say_v what_o do_v god_n to_o christ_n what_o do_v god_n the_o father_n the_o heavenly_a husbandman_n do_v unto_o christ_n the_o noble_a vine_n what_o influence_n have_v the_o son_n from_o the_o father_n we_o need_v influence_n from_o the_o son_n of_o god_n but_o what_o influence_n have_v the_o son_n from_o the_o father_n i_o answer_v christ_n as_o the_o son_n of_o man_n needs_o a_o continual_a influence_n from_o the_o father_n as_o we_o need_v a_o continual_a influence_n from_o christ_n as_o the_o father_n have_v life_n in_o himself_o so_o he_o have_v give_v to_o the_o son_n to_o have_v life_n in_o himself_o and_o he_o quicken_v who_o he_o will_n say_v christ_n john_n 5.19_o very_o very_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o the_o son_n can_v do_v nothing_o of_o himself_o but_o what_o he_o see_v the_o father_n do_v for_o what_o thing_n soever_o he_o do_v these_o also_o do_v the_o son_n likewise_o upon_o he_o the_o form_n of_o a_o servant_n it_o behove_v he_o to_o bear_v the_o weight_n of_o our_o sin_n in_o his_o own_o body_n upon_o the_o tree_n and_o become_v a_o sacrifice_n and_o die_v for_o we_o and_o then_o to_o rise_v again_o from_o the_o dead_a and_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n and_o live_v for_o ever_o to_o make_v intercession_n for_o we_o we_o need_v such_o a_o high_a priest_n that_o be_v sensible_o touch_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o infirmity_n and_o in_o all_o point_v tempt_v like_a as_o we_o be_v yet_o without_o sin_n that_o be_v a_o excellent_a place_n wherein_o david_n
