our_o saviour_n be_v the_o meek_a for_o they_o shall_v inherit_v or_o possess_v the_o earth_n or_o the_o land_n even_o that_o good_a land_n where_o there_o be_v no_o ejection_n no_o disinherit_n of_o such_o as_o be_v possess_v of_o it_o and_o therefore_o be_v the_o meek_a bless_a because_o meekness_n or_o quietness_n be_v the_o way_n or_o title_n to_o get_v possession_n thereof_o 9_o but_o the_o poor_a in_o spirit_n may_v have_v more_o honour_n than_o they_o can_v desire_v so_o may_v such_o as_o mourn_v have_v as_o much_o comfort_n and_o the_o meek_a as_o large_a and_o durable_a righteousness_n a_o inheritance_n as_o their_o heart_n can_v wish_v but_o if_o this_o be_v all_o they_o can_v not_o be_v satisfy_v every_o one_o of_o these_o have_v in_o this_o life_n their_o several_a thirst_v or_o long_n as_o he_o that_o mourn_v thirst_v after_o comfort_n the_o poor_a in_o spirit_n and_o the_o meek_a hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o their_o contentment_n in_o some_o kind_n or_o other_o but_o without_o all_o hope_n of_o satisfaction_n unless_o they_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o somewhat_o else_o beside_o these_o particular_a contentment_n man_n in_o his_o first_o estate_n be_v create_v righteous_a and_o unless_o there_o be_v a_o longing_n after_o that_o righteousness_n which_o our_o first_o parent_n lose_v whatsoever_o we_o gain_v or_o get_v beside_o can_v satisfy_v our_o desire_n either_o in_o re_n or_o in_o spe._n hence_o say_v our_o saviour_n in_o the_o four_o place_n bless_a be_v they_o that_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o righteousness_n for_o they_o shall_v be_v satisfy_v there_o be_v a_o thirst_n after_o honour_n preferment_n and_o ease_n and_o there_o be_v auri_fw-la sacra_fw-la fames_fw-la a_o unquenchable_a hunger_n after_o gold_n and_o pelf_n but_o this_o can_v be_v satisfy_v all_o these_o be_v torture_n to_o the_o soul_n wherein_o they_o harbour_v for_o though_o honour_n be_v god_n though_o gold_n and_o silver_n as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v be_v his_o yet_o he_o be_v not_o these_o these_o be_v not_o the_o same_o that_o he_o be_v but_o as_o we_o say_v late_o god_n be_v righteousness_n he_o be_v peace_n he_o be_v love_n he_o be_v mercy_n and_o therefore_o whosoever_o delight_v in_o these_o he_o true_o delight_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o shall_v assure_o have_v his_o heart_n desire_v he_o only_o shall_v be_v satisfy_v 10._o but_o no_o man_n in_o this_o life_n do_v or_o can_v delight_v in_o these_o work_n as_o he_o ought_v merciful_a the_o most_o righteous_a man_n that_o ever_o live_v on_o earth_n if_o god_n shall_v enter_v into_o judgement_n with_o he_o can_v not_o be_v absolve_v from_o the_o sentence_n of_o the_o law_n and_o so_o long_o as_o he_o stand_v unabsolved_a or_o uncertain_a of_o his_o absolution_n he_o can_v be_v satisfy_v he_o can_v have_v his_o heart_n desire_v he_o always_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o mercy_n and_o mercy_n he_o shall_v have_v that_o be_v merciful_a for_o it_o be_v remarkable_a that_o this_o qualification_n of_o mercifulness_n be_v the_o only_a qualification_n or_o condition_n which_o be_v reward_v in_o kind_n in_o this_o we_o most_o perfect_o resemble_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n hence_o say_v our_o saviour_n blessed_n be_v the_o merciful_a but_o why_o be_v they_o bless_v not_o because_o they_o shall_v receive_v a_o kingdom_n not_o because_o they_o shall_v possess_v the_o land_n not_o because_o they_o shall_v be_v satisfy_v but_o because_o they_o shall_v obtain_v mercy_n without_o the_o exceed_a mercy_n of_o god_n no_o man_n can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n neither_o into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n in_o this_o life_n nor_o into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v and_o he_o that_o mean_v to_o enter_v in_o at_o the_o gate_n of_o mercy_n must_v bring_v his_o ticket_n or_o rather_o his_o *_o counterpart_n indent_a with_o he_o he_o must_v be_v merciful_a as_o his_o heavenly_a father_n be_v merciful_a 6._o otherwise_o he_o shall_v be_v exclude_v righteousness_n towards_o god_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o be_v sever_v from_o mercy_n towards_o man_n can_v not_o suffice_v 11._o but_o that_o which_o come_v near_a to_o true_a blesledness_n itself_o be_v purity_n of_o heart_n heart_n this_o contain_v the_o root_n whereof_o holiness_n be_v the_o fruit_n that_o holiness_n who_o end_n be_v everlasting_a life_n now_o he_o that_o desire_v to_o keep_v this_o purity_n of_o heart_n must_v deprive_v his_o eye_n of_o many_o pleasant_a sight_n and_o his_o ear_n of_o many_o delightful_a sound_n and_o every_o sense_n of_o those_o particular_a contentment_n wherein_o the_o world_n most_o delight_v but_o in_o lieu_n of_o this_o loss_n he_o have_v a_o blessing_n promise_v not_o only_o of_o this_o life_n but_o of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v he_o shall_v see_v god_n as_o he_o be_v face_n to_o face_n and_o in_o this_o life_n he_o shall_v see_v he_o as_o through_o a_o glass_n and_o so_o he_o shall_v see_v he_o in_o his_o word_n and_o in_o his_o attribute_n and_o the_o best_a knowledge_n that_o in_o this_o life_n can_v be_v have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o of_o his_o attribute_n without_o transform_v the_o divine_a nature_n into_o the_o similitude_n of_o our_o corrupt_a affection_n be_v to_o see_v his_o righteousness_n and_o justice_n without_o derogation_n from_o his_o mercy_n or_o goodness_n or_o to_o see_v he_o to_o be_v goodness_n itself_o and_o mercy_n itself_o without_o any_o diminution_n of_o his_o justice_n to_o see_v his_o gracious_a and_o peculiar_a favour_n towards_o some_o without_o suspicion_n or_o imagination_n of_o rigour_n or_o cruelty_n towards_o other_o to_o know_v he_o to_o be_v love_n itself_o without_o admixture_n of_o hatred_n towards_o any_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v make_v 12._o it_o be_v this_o sight_n of_o god_n or_o this_o apprehension_n of_o this_o uniformity_n be-between_a his_o attribute_n which_o must_v transform_v we_o into_o such_o a_o similitude_n of_o peacemaker_n his_o divine_a nature_n as_o in_o this_o life_n can_v be_v have_v that_o be_v such_o as_o may_v make_v we_o the_o child_n of_o peace_n this_o be_v the_o immediate_a fruit_n of_o purity_n of_o heart_n and_o unto_o man_n thus_o dispose_v to_o preserve_v peace_n as_o for_o their_o own_o particular_n and_o to_o make_v peace_n between_o such_o as_o be_v at_o variance_n the_o blessedness_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v can_v not_o be_v promise_v under_o a_o more_o grateful_a title_n then_o under_o the_o
