comfort_n when_o as_o they_o know_v that_o their_o state_n be_v not_o desperate_a but_o the_o security_n of_o worldling_n deprive_v they_o of_o all_o true_a consolation_n past_a and_o present_a and_o abuse_v they_o with_o false_a comfort_n which_o will_v end_v in_o horror_n and_o despair_n the_o security_n of_o the_o regenerate_a be_v at_o the_o worst_a but_o a_o syncope_n and_o cast_v they_o for_o a_o time_n into_o a_o swoon_n or_o trance_n leave_v no_o appearance_n of_o spiritual_a life_n in_o respect_n of_o motion_n and_o outward_a action_n but_o it_o will_v not_o be_v long_o ere_o they_o recover_v and_o show_v that_o life_n be_v only_o hide_v but_o not_o quite_o take_v away_o by_o the_o function_n and_o operation_n of_o it_o in_o holy_a and_o christian_a duty_n but_o the_o security_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a be_v the_o swoon_n of_o death_n out_o of_o which_o they_o never_o recover_v till_o by_o their_o last_o summons_n they_o be_v awake_v to_o come_v unto_o judgement_n the_o security_n of_o believer_n in_o the_o high_a degree_n be_v but_o like_o the_o frost_n which_o work_v they_o for_o the_o time_n to_o a_o stony_a hardness_n but_o the_o sunshine_n of_o the_o word_n heat_n of_o god_n anger_n and_o fire_n of_o affliction_n thaw_v they_o bring_v they_o again_o to_o their_o wont_a softness_n and_o cause_v they_o to_o resolve_v and_o melt_v in_o the_o tear_n of_o true_a repentance_n but_o the_o security_n of_o the_o wicked_a make_v they_o like_o brickbat_n the_o more_o hard_o the_o more_o they_o be_v heat_n by_o the_o former_a mean_n yea_o of_o more_o than_o adamantine_a hardness_n so_o as_o nothing_o will_v soften_v they_o and_o cause_v they_o to_o relent_v final_o the_o security_n of_o god_n child_n when_o it_o be_v at_o the_o worst_a do_v only_o like_o ash_n hide_v and_o cover_v under_o it_o the_o true_a fear_n of_o god_n so_o as_o it_o yield_v for_o the_o time_n no_o light_n or_o heat_n and_o yet_o it_o live_v in_o they_o and_o will_v revive_v when_o god_n spirit_n blow_v upon_o it_o and_o give_v a_o fresh_a supply_n of_o grace_n as_o it_o be_v of_o more_o fuel_n but_o the_o security_n of_o the_o ungodly_a like_a water_n do_v quite_o extinguish_v it_o or_o rather_o it_o can_v never_o be_v kindle_v in_o they_o because_o there_o be_v contain_v in_o their_o heart_n a_o main_n flood_n or_o sea_n of_o carnal_a corruption_n §._o 3_o of_o the_o difference_n between_o carnal_a security_n in_o the_o faithful_a and_o wicked_a and_o first_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o cause_n and_o thus_o we_o see_v that_o howsoever_o the_o carnal_a security_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o godly_a be_v alike_o in_o many_o thing_n yet_o there_o be_v diverse_a main_n difference_n between_o they_o though_o it_o be_v consider_v in_o the_o regenerate_a in_o the_o high_a degree_n and_o so_o insensible_a that_o it_o deprive_v they_o of_o all_o sense_n and_o spiritual_a feel_n of_o their_o dangerous_a estate_n and_o condition_n but_o if_o we_o compare_v that_o carnal_a security_n which_o be_v ordinary_o in_o the_o regenerate_a and_o be_v more_o subdue_v and_o abate_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n with_o that_o which_o be_v in_o the_o unregenerate_a worldling_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o the_o difference_n between_o they_o be_v many_o and_o much_o more_o perspicuous_a and_o easy_a to_o be_v discern_v for_o first_o they_o differ_v in_o respect_n of_o their_o cause_n from_o which_o they_o spring_v not_o so_o much_o because_o they_o be_v diverse_a in_o their_o nature_n for_o for_o the_o most_o part_n they_o be_v the_o same_o even_o the_o same_o flesh_n and_o natural_a corruption_n and_o the_o same_o fruit_n which_o arise_v from_o it_o but_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o diverse_a measure_n and_o degree_n for_o the_o security_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a be_v a_o fruit_n of_o flesh_n in_o its_o full_a strength_n and_o vigour_n but_o that_o of_o the_o regenerate_a as_o it_o be_v mortify_v weaken_a and_o subdue_v to_o the_o spiritual_a part_n that_o proceed_v from_o palpable_a ignorance_n from_o utter_a forgetfulness_n and_o total_a neglect_n of_o god_n in_o his_o save_a attribute_n which_o be_v the_o only_a cause_n that_o work_v god_n fear_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o so_o reign_v and_o rule_v in_o they_o without_o opposition_n and_o resistance_n like_o a_o king_n in_o his_o throne_n but_o this_o arise_v from_o these_o cause_n as_o they_o be_v abate_v oppose_v and_o in_o part_n subdue_v by_o their_o contrary_a virtue_n the_o knowledge_n remembrance_n and_o consideration_n of_o god_n and_o his_o attribute_n of_o wisdom_n justice_n power_n mercy_n and_o goodness_n and_o therefore_o be_v much_o weaken_v in_o its_o natural_a strength_n like_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o it_o do_v not_o usual_o in_o hostile_a manner_n assault_v we_o in_o the_o open_a field_n but_o like_o a_o tyrant_n depose_v from_o his_o regency_n or_o a_o sly_a rebel_n that_o want_v force_n it_o secret_o and_o cunning_o steal_v upon_o we_o insinuate_v and_o wind_v itself_o into_o our_o heart_n at_o unaware_o when_o we_o least_o suspect_v it_o and_o fight_v against_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n out_o of_o ambushment_n and_o upon_o advantage_n and_o sometime_o give_v it_o the_o foil_n and_o for_o a_o time_n make_v it_o give_v place_n but_o be_v renew_a and_o strengthen_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o re-encountreth_a carnal_a security_n drive_v it_o from_o its_o hold_n and_o again_o bring_v it_o under_o subjection_n and_o the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o all_o other_o cause_n of_o security_n before_o mention_v be_v it_o not_o over_o long_o to_o stand_v several_o upon_o they_o all_o which_o in_o the_o unregenerate_a be_v in_o their_o vigour_n strength_n and_o sole_a regency_n have_v no_o opposite_n to_o moderate_v and_o weaken_v they_o but_o in_o the_o regenerate_a they_o be_v in_o part_n mortify_v by_o god_n spirit_n subdue_v and_o depose_v from_o their_o rule_n by_o those_o grace_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o they_o and_o answerable_o their_o security_n be_v either_o total_a or_o but_o in_o part_n strong_a or_o weak_a according_a to_o the_o quality_n and_o nature_n of_o the_o cause_n from_o which_o it_o spring_v §._o 4_o the_o second_o difference_n in_o their_o effect_n second_o they_o differ_v in_o their_o effect_n which_o in_o the_o one_o be_v more_o strong_a and_o permanent_a in_o the_o other_o more_o weak_a and_o momentaine_v for_o the_o security_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a strike_v with_o a_o deadly_a blow_n all_o the_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o bring_v they_o into_o a_o deep_a lethargy_n which_o deprive_v they_o of_o all_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o their_o disease_n and_o consequent_o of_o all_o desire_n to_o be_v cure_v of_o it_o yea_o it_o make_v they_o like_o the_o blind_a and_o dumb_a shepherd_n of_o who_o the_o prophet_n speak_v to_o delight_v 10._o esa_n 56._o 10._o in_o sleep_v unwilling_a to_o be_v awake_v and_o angry_a with_o those_o who_o use_v any_o mean_n to_o rouse_v they_o up_o so_o that_o the_o more_o they_o sleep_v the_o more_o they_o may_v till_o at_o last_o they_o be_v bring_v to_o eternal_a death_n and_o destruction_n or_o if_o by_o the_o trumpet_n of_o the_o word_n sound_v loud_o in_o their_o ear_n they_o be_v somewhat_o disturb_v in_o their_o carnal_a rest_n either_o with_o pharaoh_n they_o will_v not_o at_o all_o acknowledge_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n nor_o 2._o exod._n 5._o 2._o have_v any_o desire_n of_o reconcile_a themselves_o unto_o he_o by_o unfeigned_a repentance_n but_o use_v all_o mean_n
