that_o they_o belong_v to_o all_o the_o faithful_a and_o consequent_o unto_o i_o who_o do_v believe_v and_o be_o assure_v of_o they_o see_v they_o be_v promise_v on_o no_o other_o condition_n security_n diverse_a difference_n between_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o presumptuous_a security_n but_o the_o tempter_n will_v object_v that_o many_o through_o carnal_a presumption_n do_v persuade_v themselves_o that_o all_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v belong_v unto_o they_o and_o therefore_o we_o may_v easy_o be_v deceive_v not_o be_v able_a to_o discern_v between_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o presumptuous_a security_n i_o answer_v that_o those_o who_o be_v endue_v with_o god_n spirit_n may_v easy_o discern_v the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n from_o the_o carnal_a language_n of_o presumption_n as_o be_v evident_a by_o that_o which_o before_o i_o have_v deliver_v and_o also_o may_v more_o plain_o appear_v by_o manifest_a difference_n if_o the_o one_o be_v compare_v with_o the_o other_o for_o presumption_n be_v a_o fruit_n of_o original_a corruption_n which_o accompany_v we_o from_o our_o mother_n womb_n till_o it_o be_v beat_v down_o with_o god_n sanctify_a spirit_n but_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v a_o thing_n supernatural_a which_o no_o man_n ever_o feel_v before_o his_o conversion_n unto_o god_n when_o as_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n he_o be_v humble_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n sorrow_v and_o grieve_v for_o his_o sin_n past_a and_o detest_a they_o from_o his_o hart_n and_o purpose_v to_o leave_v and_o forsake_v they_o in_o the_o time_n to_o come_v if_o therefore_o we_o have_v have_v always_o this_o testimony_n in_o our_o mind_n that_o we_o be_v in_o god_n favour_n and_o elect_a and_o never_o feel_v our_o conversion_n nor_o discern_v any_o fruit_n thereof_o then_o do_v this_o testimony_n proceed_v from_o carnal_a presumption_n and_o not_o from_o god_n spirit_n second_o those_o who_o have_v the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n make_v conscience_n of_o the_o diligent_a and_o careful_a use_n of_o the_o outward_a mean_n of_o salvation_n as_o the_o hear_n and_o read_v of_o the_o word_n the_o receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o other_o holy_a duty_n of_o god_n service_n because_o they_o know_v that_o the_o inward_a testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v not_o ordinary_o sever_v from_o the_o outward_a testimony_n of_o the_o word_n and_o the_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n and_o our_o election_n be_v not_o wrought_v immediate_o in_o we_o by_o revelation_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o by_o the_o prea_n of_o the_o word_n and_o use_n of_o the_o sacrament_n make_v effectual_a by_o the_o inward_a cooperation_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o presumption_n as_o it_o arise_v not_o from_o the_o use_n of_o these_o mean_n make_v thus_o effectual_a but_o from_o carnal_a security_n so_o be_v it_o not_o confirm_v thereby_o for_o the_o less_o that_o the_o presumptuous_a man_n hear_v the_o word_n and_o perform_v the_o duty_n of_o piety_n and_o god_n service_n the_o more_o confident_o do_v he_o boast_v of_o his_o faith_n and_o full_a assurance_n and_o therefore_o he_o make_v no_o conscience_n of_o use_v these_o mean_n ordain_v of_o god_n nay_o contrariwise_o he_o will_v not_o stick_v to_o affirm_v that_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n too_o often_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o trouble_v man_n mind_n and_o afflict_v their_o conscience_n move_v they_o to_o doubt_v of_o god_n mercy_n which_o before_o they_o never_o call_v into_o question_n and_o why_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o fond_a presumption_n three_o presumption_n be_v most_o confident_a and_o never_o doubt_v nor_o make_v any_o question_n of_o his_o election_n &_o salvation_n who_o thus_o and_o regenerate_v so_o that_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n if_o the_o the_o flesh_n and_o unregenerate_a part_n still_o love_v the_o world_n be-because_a it_o be_v still_o worldly_a but_o if_o in_o the_o it_o can_v never_o be_v utter_o quench_v though_o through_o our_o gretuous_a foil_n and_o fall_n in_o the_o combat_n of_o tentation_n it_o may_v be_v as_o it_o be_v bring_v into_o a_o trance_n so_o as_o we_o can_v sensible_o discern_v any_o action_n motion_n or_o life_n of_o faith_n yet_o the_o habit_n and_o grace_n itself_o after_o it_o be_v once_o give_v of_o god_n be_v never_o take_v away_o neither_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v quite_o destroy_v by_o all_o the_o power_n of_o hell_n and_o this_o may_v appear_v by_o diverse_a reason_n first_o because_o faith_n be_v not_o natural_a mother_n then_o sure_o much_o more_o shall_v we_o find_v in_o our_o heavenly_a father_n 49.15_o esa_n 49.15_o for_o though_o a_o mother_n may_v forget_v the_o fruit_n of_o her_o womb_n yet_o strength_n for_o as_o it_o fare_v with_o those_o that_o lie_v upon_o their_o deathbead_n so_o it_o be_v with_o our_o sick_a flesh_n and_o the_o corruption_n thereof_o after_o that_o nature_n seem_v spend_v and_o the_o power_n thereof_o whole_o decay_v oftentimes_o fall_v into_o some_o grievous_a fit_n wherein_o there_o be_v a_o fight_n between_o life_n and_o death_n their_o strength_n seem_v redouble_v and_o far_o great_a than_o ever_o it_o be_v but_o be_v of_o good_a comfort_n it_o be_v no_o sign_n of_o health_n but_o a_o pang_n of_o death_n which_o near_o approach_v and_o thus_o you_o see_v the_o death_n of_o sin_n and_o our_o natural_a corruption_n now_o as_o in_o the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n there_o be_v a_o certain_a progress_n therein_o namely_o when_o the_o dead_a carcase_n
