answerable_a to_o the_o rebellion_n and_o sinfulness_n of_o our_o disposition_n he_o be_v a_o king_n to_o subdue_v whatsoever_o be_v ill_a in_o we_o and_o likewise_o to_o subdue_v all_o opposite_a power_n without_o we_o by_o little_a and_o little_o he_o will_v trample_v all_o enemy_n under_o his_o foot_n and_o under_o our_o foot_n too_o ere_o long_o now_o as_o we_o be_v curse_v by_o reason_n of_o our_o sinful_a condition_n so_o he_o be_v a_o priest_n to_o satisfy_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n for_o we_o he_o be_v make_v a_o curse_n for_o we_o he_o become_v a_o servant_n that_o be_v so_o he_o may_v die_v and_o undergo_v the_o curse_a death_n of_o the_o cross_n not_o only_a death_n but_o a_o curse_a death_n and_o so_o his_o blood_n may_v be_v a_o atonement_n as_o a_o priest_n so_o answerable_a to_o the_o three_o fold_v ill_a in_o we_o you_o see_v here_o be_v a_o threefold_a office_n in_o christ._n office_n now_o christ_n perform_v these_o three_o office_n in_o this_o order_n first_o of_o all_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n when_o he_o be_v baptize_v the_o spirit_n be_v put_v upon_o he_o as_o in_o isaiah_n 61._o to_o preach_v deliverance_n to_o the_o captive_n first_o he_o preach_v wherefore_o he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n why_o god_n send_v he_o and_o discover_v to_o the_o world_n the_o state_n they_o be_v in_o and_o when_o he_o have_v preach_v as_o a_o prophet_n then_o as_o a_o priest_n he_o die_v and_o offer_v himself_o a_o sacrifice_n after_o death_n his_o kingly_a office_n be_v most_o apparent_a for_o than_o he_o rise_v again_o as_o a_o triumphant_a king_n over_o death_n and_o all_o our_o enemy_n and_o ascend_v in_o his_o triumphant_a chariot_n to_o heaven_n and_o there_o he_o sit_v glorious_o as_o a_o king_n in_o his_o throne_n at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n so_o that_o how_o ever_o at_o his_o baptism_n and_o before_o when_o he_o be_v sanctify_v in_o his_o mother_n womb_n he_o be_v both_o king_n priest_n and_o prophet_n yet_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o order_n of_o manifestation_n he_o manifest_v himself_o first_o to_o be_v a_o prophet_n second_o a_o priest_n and_o three_o to_o be_v a_o king_n for_o his_o kingly_a office_n break_v forth_o but_o seldom_o in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o abasement_n sometime_o it_o do_v to_o show_v that_o he_o be_v ruler_n and_o commander_n of_o earth_n and_o sea_n and_o devil_n and_o all_o he_o wrought_v miracle_n but_o the_o glorious_a manifestation_n of_o his_o kingly_a office_n it_o be_v after_o his_o resurrection_n now_o the_o fundamental_a principal_a the_o chief_a office_n to_o which_o he_o be_v anoint_v by_o the_o spirit_n upon_o which_o the_o rest_n depend_v it_o be_v his_o priestly_a office_n for_o wherefore_o be_v his_o teach_n but_o to_o instruct_v we_o what_o he_o must_v do_v and_o suffer_v for_o we_o and_o what_o benefit_n we_o have_v by_o his_o sacrifice_n reconciliation_n with_o god_n and_o freedom_n from_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o right_a unto_o life_n everlasting_a by_o his_o obedience_n to_o the_o curse_a death_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o how_o come_v he_o to_o be_v a_o king_n to_o rule_v over_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n and_o to_o have_v a_o right_n unto_o we_o but_o because_o as_o a_o priest_n he_o die_v for_o we_o first_o he_o wash_v we_o with_o his_o blood_n he_o purge_v we_o with_o his_o blood_n and_o then_o he_o make_v we_o king_n and_o priest_n rev_n 1_o all_o other_o benefit_n come_v from_o this_o he_o wash_v our_o soul_n in_o his_o blood_n first_o whatsoever_o we_o have_v from_o god_n be_v especial_o from_o the_o great_a work_n of_o christ_n as_o a_o priest_n abase_v himself_o and_o die_v for_o we_o and_o thereupon_o he_o come_v to_o be_v a_o prophet_n and_o a_o king_n thus_o we_o see_v the_o order_n of_o christ_n office_n how_o they_o come_v to_o be_v fruitful_a to_o we_o the_o rest_n especial_o by_o virtue_n of_o his_o priestly_a office_n note_v this_o by_o the_o way_n christ_n priestly_a office_n include_v two_o branch_n his_o sacrifice_a himself_o for_o we_o a_o priest_n be_v to_o offer_v sacrifice_n and_o to_o pray_v for_o the_o people_n our_o saviour_n christ_n do_v both_o in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o humiliation_n in_o his_o prayer_n in_o joh._n 17._o there_o as_o a_o priest_n he_o commend_v his_o sacrifice_n to_o god_n before_o he_o die_v and_o now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n make_v intercession_n for_o we_o to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n he_o appear_v for_o we_o there_o we_o see_v then_o to_o what_o purpose_n god_n put_v the_o spirit_n upon_o christ_n to_o enable_v he_o to_o be_v a_o prophet_n a_o priest_n and_o a_o king_n and_o thereupon_o to_o take_v away_o those_o mischief_n and_o evil_n that_o we_o be_v subject_a and_o enthral_a too_o so_o that_o we_o have_v a_o supply_n for_o all_o that_o may_v any_o way_n abase_v we_o and_o cast_v we_o down_o in_o the_o all_o sufficiency_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n who_o be_v anoint_v with_o the_o spirit_n for_o this_o end_n object_n it_o may_v be_v object_v christ_n be_v god_n himself_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n and_o give_v the_o spirit_n therefore_o how_o can_v the_o
persuade_v the_o soul_n first_o of_o the_o love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ._n what_o be_v all_o our_o performance_n if_o they_o be_v not_o out_o of_o love_n to_o god_n and_o how_o shall_v we_o love_v god_n except_o we_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o love_v we_o first_o therefore_o the_o gospel_n breed_v love_n in_o we_o to_o god_n and_o have_v the_o spirit_n together_o with_o it_o work_v a_o bless_a frame_n of_o sanctification_n whereby_o we_o be_v dispose_v to_o every_o good_a duty_n therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n let_v we_o attend_v upon_o the_o preach_n of_o salvation_n by_o christ_n alone_o people_n be_v send_v to_o stock_n and_o stone_n and_o to_o saint_n and_o instead_o of_o the_o word_n they_o be_v send_v to_o legend_n and_o such_o thing_n christ_n be_v obscure_v thereupon_o they_o be_v dark_a age_n those_o age_n wherein_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v most_o be_v where_o christ_n be_v most_o preach_v and_o people_n be_v best_a always_o where_o there_o be_v most_o spirit_n and_o they_o be_v most_o joyful_a and_o comfortable_a and_o holy_a where_o christ_n be_v true_o lay_v open_a to_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n the_o peach_v of_o mere_a morality_n if_o man_n be_v not_o careful_a to_o open_a christ_n to_o know_v how_o salvation_n be_v wrought_v by_o christ_n and_o how_o all_o good_a come_v by_o christ_n it_o will_v never_o make_v a_o man_n perfect_o good_a and_o fit_v he_o for_o heaven_n it_o may_v make_v a_o man_n reform_v many_o abuse_n like_o a_o philosopher_n which_o have_v its_o reward_n and_o respect_n among_o man_n but_o nothing_o to_o give_v comfort_n at_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n and_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n only_o that_o whereby_o the_o spirit_n be_v convey_v be_v the_o knowledge_n and_o preach_v of_o christ_n in_o his_o state_n and_o office_n obedience_n again_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v in_o obedience_n to_o this_o gospel_n act_n 5.32_o he_o give_v the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o they_o that_o obey_v he_o now_o there_o be_v the_o obedience_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o obedience_n of_o life_n when_o the_o soul_n be_v wrought_v to_o obedience_n to_o believe_v and_o resist_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n for_o in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o spirit_n be_v give_v in_o some_o degree_n to_o reprobate_n it_o be_v offer_v it_o knock_v at_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o vile_a person_n that_o live_v in_o filthy_a and_o false_a course_n of_o life_n who_o tongue_n and_o body_n be_v all_o instrument_n of_o a_o unsanctified_a soul_n to_o offend_v god_n they_o have_v gracious_a motion_n offer_v they_o but_o then_o they_o do_v not_o obey_v they_o therefore_o the_o spirit_n seize_v not_o upon_o they_o to_o rule_v in_o they_o they_o have_v the_o spirit_n knock_v upon_o they_o he_o do_v not_o dwell_v in_o they_o and_o take_v up_o his_o lodging_n in_o they_o the_o spirit_n be_v give_v to_o they_o that_o obey_v the_o sweet_a motion_n of_o it_o now_o who_o be_v it_o that_o hear_v the_o bless_a word_n of_o god_n the_o bless_a tiding_n of_o salvation_n but_o he_o have_v sweet_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o be_v in_o love_n with_o god_n and_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o to_o hate_v sin_n a_o little_a for_o a_o time_n then_o present_o upon_o it_o corruption_n join_v and_o and_o swell_v against_o those_o motion_n and_o they_o only_a rest_n in_o the_o bare_a motion_n and_o never_o come_v to_o any_o perfection_n this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o reprobate_n in_o the_o church_n they_o have_v many_o motion_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o subdue_v to_o obedience_n not_o to_o constant_a obedience_n therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n let_v we_o labour_n to_o subject_v ourselves_o unto_o it_o when_o we_o have_v any_o good_a motion_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n or_o by_o conference_n or_o by_o read_v of_o good_a thing_n as_o holy_a thing_n have_v a_o savour_n in_o they_o the_o spirit_n breathe_v in_o holy_a exercise_n oh_o give_v way_n to_o the_o motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n we_o shall_v not_o have_v they_o again_o perhaps_o turn_v not_o back_o those_o bless_a messenger_n let_v we_o entertain_v they_o let_v the_o spirit_n dwell_v and_o rule_v in_o we_o it_o be_v the_o most_o bless_a lodger_n that_o ever_o we_o entertain_v in_o all_o our_o life_n if_o we_o let_v the_o spirit_n guide_v and_o rule_v we_o it_o will_v lead_v we_o and_o govern_v and_o support_v we_o in_o life_n and_o death_n and_o never_o leave_v we_o till_o it_o have_v raise_v our_o body_n the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o we_o at_o length_n will_v quicken_v our_o dead_a body_n rom._n 8._o it_o will_v never_o leave_v we_o till_o it_o have_v bring_v we_o to_o heaven_n this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o god_n that_o give_v way_n to_o the_o motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n to_o rule_v and_o guide_v they_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o rebel_a against_o it_o this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o many_o of_o we_o the_o lord_n be_v merciful_a to_o we_o and_o cure_v we_o that_o we_o do_v not_o only_o not_o receive_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n deep_o into_o we_o but_o if_o they_o be_v such_o a_o cross_n we_o in_o our_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n though_o the_o word_n and_o spirit_n join_v together_o there_o be_v a_o rise_n of_o the_o proud_a spirit_n of_o man_n against_o so_o much_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o motion_n of_o it_o and_o against_o such_o part_n of_o the_o word_n as_o cross_v we_o this_o will_v be_v lay_v heavy_a to_o our_o charge_n one_o day_n that_o we_o will_v bring_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o our_o corruption_n and_o not_o bring_v our_o heart_n to_o god_n spirit_n and_o hereupon_o be_v those_o phrase_n in_o the_o scripture_n of_o tempt_v the_o spirit_n ananias_n and_o saphira_n tempt_v the_o spirit_n that_o be_v when_o man_n will_v do_v that_o which_o be_v naught_o and_o try_v whether_o god_n will_v forgive_v they_o and_o put_v it_o off_o or_o no_o how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o tempt_v the_o spirit_n that_o put_v it_o off_o perhaps_o i_o shall_v have_v the_o like_a motion_n another_o time_n i_o shall_v have_v better_a occasion_n when_o i_o can_v gain_v no_o more_o when_o i_o can_v have_v my_o pleasure_n no_o more_o thus_o man_n resist_v the_o spirit_n as_o saint_n stephen_n say_v that_o be_v when_o the_o spirit_n discover_v to_o they_o what_o they_o shall_v believe_v and_o what_o they_o shall_v do_v and_o they_o see_v it_o cross_v their_o resolution_n to_o be_v naught_o hereupon_o they_o resist_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o else_o will_v close_v with_o their_o soul_n and_o sanctify_v they_o and_o fit_v they_o for_o heaven_n if_o they_o will_v give_v way_n to_o it_o and_o there_o be_v a_o quench_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v when_o man_n have_v sweet_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o present_o by_o some_o ill_a language_n or_o course_n of_o life_n they_o defile_v their_o vessel_n and_o quench_v the_o sweet_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o all_o these_o of_o tempt_v of_o resist_v and_o quench_v the_o spirit_n for_o undoubted_o live_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o church_n we_o have_v many_o heavenly_a motion_n especial_o those_o that_o have_v so_o much_o goodness_n in_o they_o as_o to_o attend_v upon_o god_n ordinance_n they_o have_v those_o motion_n at_o those_o time_n that_o they_o never_o have_v after_o perhaps_o
but_o they_o either_o resist_v they_o or_o quench_v they_o and_o wrong_v and_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n as_o saint_n paul_n say_v grieve_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n whereby_o you_o be_v seal_v to_o the_o day_n of_o redemption_n ephes._n 5._o man_n speak_v or_o do_v somewhat_o that_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o they_o their_o conscience_n be_v enlighten_v by_o the_o spirit_n tell_v they_o that_o they_o have_v do_v that_o which_o be_v naught_o yet_o notwithstanding_o for_o this_o or_o that_o advantage_n to_o please_v this_o or_o that_o company_n they_o will_v speak_v or_o do_v that_o which_o be_v ill_a and_o then_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v give_v in_o some_o measure_n before_o be_v grieve_v at_o this_o carnal_a and_o sinful_a liberty_n therefore_o if_o you_o will_v be_v guide_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n take_v heed_n of_o all_o these_o and_o of_o such_o like_a course_n another_o mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v come_v to_o obtain_v the_o spirit_n prayer_n be_v prayer_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n next_o to_o christ_n himself_o our_o saviour_n be_v the_o most_o excellent_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o be_v worth_a the_o beg_n and_o get_v luke_n 11.13_o how_o much_o more_o shall_v your_o heavenly_a father_n give_v his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o they_o that_o ask_v he_o insinuate_v that_o we_o can_v ask_v nothing_o great_a than_o the_o spirit_n a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o sanctify_a judgement_n next_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o his_o sin_n through_o christ_n he_o beg_v nothing_o more_o than_o the_o spirit_n to_o witness_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o to_o fit_v he_o for_o other_o favour_n especial_o to_o fit_v we_o for_o the_o world_n to_o come_v god_n can_v give_v nothing_o great_a nor_o we_o can_v beg_v nothing_o great_a if_o we_o have_v sanctify_v judgement_n than_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n therefore_o let_v we_o have_v a_o high_a esteem_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o the_o motion_n of_o it_o and_o out_o of_o a_o high_a esteem_n in_o our_o heart_n beg_v of_o god_n the_o guidance_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o he_o will_v lead_v we_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o subdue_v our_o corruption_n that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v lead_v by_o our_o own_o lust_n and_o so_o consequent_o by_o satan_n that_o lead_v we_o by_o our_o own_o lust_n in_o the_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o perdition_n so_o much_o for_o that_o i_o will_v put_v my_o spirit_n etc._n etc._n and_o he_o shall_v show_v judgement_n to_o the_o gentile_n after_o christ_n be_v full_o furnish_v as_o he_o be_v furnish_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o with_o a_o commission_n from_o heaven_n from_o father_n son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n have_v this_o high_a commission_n and_o gift_n for_o it_o by_o the_o spirit_n he_o fall_v upon_o his_o office_n present_o we_o be_v never_o fit_a for_o any_o thing_n till_o we_o have_v the_o spirit_n and_o when_o we_o have_v the_o spirit_n it_o be_v active_a and_o vigorous_a and_o work_a he_o shall_v show_v judgement_n to_o the_o gentile_n object_n what_o be_v mean_v by_o judgement_n here_o by_o judgement_n be_v mean_v law_n answ._n he_o shall_v declare_v his_o law_n here_o his_o truth_n and_o together_o with_o declare_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v his_o evangelicall_n law_n he_o shall_v declare_v it_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o bow_v the_o neck_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n to_o the_o obedience_n of_o this_o his_o judgement_n christ_n then_o by_o himself_o and_o his_o apostle_n and_o minister_n shall_v declare_v his_o truth_n which_o be_v the_o sceptre_n of_o his_o government_n to_o the_o gentile_n and_o not_o only_o declare_v it_o as_o prince_n do_v their_o law_n by_o proclamation_n and_o statute_n etc._n etc._n but_o he_o shall_v declare_v it_o to_o the_o heart_n by_o his_o spirit_n now_o in_o the_o hebrew_n language_n ordinary_o wise_a government_n be_v call_v judgement_n he_o shall_v declare_v judgement_n that_o be_v his_o manner_n of_o government_n he_o shall_v declare_v it_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o cause_v our_o spirit_n to_o submit_v to_o it_o and_o indeed_o grace_n be_v call_v judgement_n in_o the_o phrase_n of_o scripture_n the_o grace_n of_o sanctification_n because_o it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o judgement_n to_o god_n law_n it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o it_o and_o wrought_v by_o it_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o it_o god_n call_v judgement_n judgement_n it_o be_v call_v so_o frequent_o in_o the_o psalm_n and_o in_o other_o place_n of_o scripture_n because_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n show_v what_o god_n do_v judge_v judgement_n be_v original_o in_o god_n who_o be_v the_o first_o truth_n and_o the_o first_o good_a the_o first_o truth_n judge_v best_a of_o truth_n what_o be_v light_n and_o what_o be_v darkness_n what_o be_v truth_n and_o what_o be_v error_n what_o be_v good_a and_o what_o be_v ill_a what_o be_v safe_a and_o what_o be_v dangerous_a all_o will_v grant_v that_o god_n be_v the_o first_o light_n and_o the_o firâ—t_o truth_n therefore_o he_o do_v original_o judge_v of_o the_o difference_n of_o thing_n for_o even_o as_o in_o the_o creation_n he_o put_v a_o eternal_a difference_n between_o thing_n shall_v be_v above_o another_o and_o all_o in_o judgement_n so_o in_o the_o govern_n of_o mankind_n he_o show_v his_o judgement_n by_o his_o word_n and_o that_o word_n show_v how_o god_n judge_v of_o thing_n law_n show_n judgement_n what_o be_v to_o be_v do_v and_o what_o be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v the_o gospel_n show_v god_n judgement_n what_o he_o will_v have_v we_o believe_v and_o hope_v for_o and_o how_o we_o must_v carry_v ourselves_o in_o way_n of_o thankefullness_n if_o we_o do_v this_o than_o the_o gospel_n the_o word_n of_o god_n judge_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o we_o shall_v be_v save_v if_o we_o do_v the_o contrary_a the_o word_n again_o judge_v what_o our_o state_n shall_v be_v we_o shall_v be_v damn_v so_o it_o be_v call_v judgement_n because_o it_o
