the_o doctrine_n which_o they_o deliver_v from_o these_o word_n be_v quite_o repugnant_a unto_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n throughout_o the_o whole_a scripture_n and_o therefore_o that_o can_v be_v the_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n which_o they_o do_v give_v again_o if_o the_o rhemist_n have_v think_v these_o word_n to_o have_v make_v any_o whit_n to_o that_o purpose_n it_o be_v very_o like_v they_o will_v not_o have_v fail_v to_o have_v give_v that_o note_n hence_o for_o we_o see_v how_o ready_a they_o be_v to_o wrest_v all_o place_n to_o the_o maintenance_n of_o not_o as_o our_o adversary_n do_v imagine_v that_o he_o be_v able_a of_o himself_o to_o do_v all_o thing_n not_o only_o the_o thing_n speak_v of_o before_o but_o all_o thing_n general_o which_o the_o law_n of_o god_n require_v through_o the_o help_n of_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v he_o and_o give_v further_a strength_n and_o virtue_n unto_o his_o own_o strength_n and_o virtue_n what_o then_o be_v the_o apostle_n meaning_n in_o these_o word_n sure_o this_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o tenor_n of_o they_o to_o clear_v himself_o of_o boast_v himself_o touch_v the_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v speak_v of_o he_o renounce_v all_o his_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n as_o if_o by_o his_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n he_o have_v be_v able_a to_o do_v those_o thing_n and_o he_o attribute_v all_o unto_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n of_o christ_n say_v i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n even_o all_o the_o thing_n that_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o that_o be_v i_o can_v be_v abase_v and_o i_o can_v abound_v etc._n etc._n for_o so_o this_o universal_a speech_n be_v to_o be_v restrain_v unto_o the_o subject_n and_o matter_n here_o speak_v of_o as_o usual_o it_o be_v in_o other_o place_n of_o the_o scripture_n or_o if_o we_o will_v needs_o enlarge_v it_o further_o then_o thus_o i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o be_v all_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o my_o duty_n and_o calling_n but_o how_o by_o my_o own_o power_n or_o strength_n no_o but_o through_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v and_o enable_v i_o he_o do_v not_o say_v through_o the_o help_n of_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v in_o our_o english_a bibles_n albeit_o that_o also_o may_v be_v say_v for_o that_o he_o be_v often_o say_v to_o help_v we_o in_o the_o thing_n wherein_o he_o alone_o work_v altogether_o without_o we_o but_o he_o say_v i_o be_o able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n through_o christ_n who_o work_n whole_o and_o only_o it_o be_v to_o strengthen_v i_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n in_o my_o inner_a man_n for_o so_o the_o word_n seem_v here_o to_o signify_v to_o do_v these_o thing_n even_o to_o suffer_v adversity_n and_o not_o be_v cast_v down_o through_o heaviness_n and_o likewise_o to_o enjoy_v prosperity_n and_o not_o be_v puff_v up_o with_o pride_n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o simple_a meaning_n of_o the_o apostle_n here_o where_o i_o note_v these_o two_o point_n first_o that_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o those_o thing_n second_o by_o who_o it_o be_v that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n even_o by_o christ_n which_o &c._n &c._n in_o the_o first_o point_n where_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o he_o be_v able_a etc._n etc._n it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o he_o say_v i_o be_o able_a he_o do_v not_o say_v i_o be_v able_a etc._n etc._n for_o indeed_o before_o he_o be_v call_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v so_o but_o he_o say_v i_o be_o able_a imply_v that_o now_o that_o christ_n dwell_v in_o he_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n now_o that_o he_o be_v engraft_v into_o christ_n his_o body_n by_o the_o wash_n of_o the_o new_a birth_n and_o the_o renew_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o these_o thing_n to_o be_v abase_v etc._n etc._n whence_o i_o observe_v this_o lesson_n for_o we_o that_o be_v regenerate_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o engraft_v into_o the_o true_a olive_n tree_n christ_n jesus_n we_o be_v able_a to_o be_v full_a and_o to_o be_v hungry_a to_o abound_v and_o to_o have_v want_n and_o to_o do_v the_o so_o i_o say_v if_o any_o man_n be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a it_o be_v the_o man_n unregenerate_a in_o who_o christ_n dwell_v not_o by_o the_o power_n of_o his_o spirit_n here_o then_o be_v the_o point_n not_o whether_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a for_o that_o we_o hold_v but_o whether_o we_o be_v able_a by_o our_o own_o power_n and_o strength_n at_o all_o to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o who_o it_o be_v that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v these_o
thing_n which_o be_v the_o second_o point_n that_o i_o note_v in_o these_o word_n touch_v the_o second_o point_n then_o you_o see_v the_o apostle_n say_v he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n but_o how_o through_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v he_o he_o be_v able_a but_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n whereby_o he_o be_v able_a be_v whence_o in_o any_o part_n from_o himself_o no_o no_o such_o word_n but_o from_o christ_n who_o dwell_v in_o he_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o strengthen_v he_o so_o that_o he_o can_v be_v abase_v and_o he_o can_v abound_v and_o still_o be_v content_a with_o his_o estate_n whence_o i_o observe_v that_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n whereby_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v whatsoever_o thing_n be_v good_a be_v not_o from_o ourselves_o but_o from_o christ_n who_o ourselves_o but_o our_o sufficiency_n be_v of_o god_n where_o the_o apostle_n do_v not_o deny_v that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o think_v that_o be_v good_a but_o he_o say_v that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a of_o ourselves_o as_o of_o ourselves_o but_o only_o by_o god_n so_o in_o this_o epistle_n it_o be_v god_n say_v he_o which_o work_v in_o you_o both_o the_o will_n and_o the_o deed_n even_o of_o his_o good_a pleasure_n where_o he_o deni_v not_o that_o we_o be_v able_a to_o will_n or_o to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o he_o say_v that_o it_o be_v god_n that_o work_v in_o we_o both_o the_o will_n and_o the_o deed_n of_o his_o good_a pleasure_n not_o to_o trouble_v you_o with_o mo_z place_n to_o this_o purpose_n by_o these_o you_o see_v that_o it_o be_v not_o of_o ourselves_o but_o of_o god_n that_o we_o think_v will_n or_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a we_o think_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o think_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o suggest_v good_a cogitation_n into_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o dwell_v in_o us._n we_o will_v and_o desire_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o will_n and_o desire_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a by_o work_v good_a motion_n and_o holy_a desire_n in_o we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n we_o fly_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v we_o fly_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o do_v that_o be_v good_a by_o minister_a strength_n unto_o we_o through_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o us._n we_o know_v how_o to_o be_v abase_v and_o how_o to_o abound_v how_o to_o be_v full_a and_o how_o to_o be_v hungry_a etc._n etc._n but_o it_o be_v god_n that_o enable_v we_o hereunto_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v us._n without_o he_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o as_o himself_o tell_v we_o 15.5_o joh._n 15.5_o not_o think_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a thought_n not_o will_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a desire_n not_o do_v any_o part_n of_o a_o good_a deed_n so_o whole_o be_v every_o good_a gift_n from_o he_o but_o by_o he_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o our_o duty_n require_v of_o we_o though_o not_o in_o that_o degree_n of_o perfection_n which_o we_o ought_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o sin_n which_o hang_v so_o fast_o on_o we_o yet_o so_o as_o he_o will_v be_v well_o please_v with_o we_o and_o perfect_a his_o praise_n in_o our_o weakness_n apostle_n say_v so_o and_o shall_v not_o he_o then_o have_v the_o glory_n of_o all_o have_v thou_o any_o good_a thing_n that_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v of_o the_o lord_n the_o apostle_n think_v not_o why_o then_o reioyc_a thou_o in_o it_o as_o though_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v it_o in_o christ_n we_o have_v all_o good_a thing_n that_o we_o have_v whether_o for_o this_o life_n present_a or_o that_o that_o be_v to_o come_v and_o whatsoever_o good_a thing_n we_o do_v we_o be_v whole_o enable_v thereunto_o through_o christ_n which_o strengthen_v us._n let_v not_o we_o therefore_o set_v of_o and_o he_o give_v it_o he_o know_v that_o without_o he_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o and_o therefore_o be_v strengthen_v we_o in_o all_o thing_n sometime_o his_o own_o arm_n help_v we_o and_o sometime_o he_o strengthen_v we_o sometime_o to_o do_v &_o sometime_o to_o suffer_v those_o thing_n which_o otherwise_o we_o can_v not_o how_o ought_v our_o mouth_n then_o to_o be_v fill_v with_o his_o praise_n and_o how_o ought_v we_o always_o to_o depend_v upon_o he_o by_o he_o we_o stand_v and_o without_o he_o we_o fall_v let_v our_o song_n therefore_o always_o be_v of_o he_o and_o let_v his_o praise_n be_v ever_o in_o our_o mouth_n for_o such_o mercy_n as_o we_o have_v of_o he_o and_o let_v we_o pray_v always_o with_o all_o manner_n prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o spirit_n notwithstanding_o etc._n etc._n in_o these_o word_n the_o apostle_n according_a to_o that_o wisdom_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o most_o wise_o commend_v the_o philippian_n for_o their_o liberality_n send_v unto_o he_o for_o the_o apostle_n have_v before_o most_o peremptory_o signify_v his_o constancy_n both_o in_o adversity_n and_o prosperity_n that_o spring_v and_o that_o be_v from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n for_o still_o we_o must_v remember_v that_o these_o four_o last_o vantage_n whereof_o the_o apostle_n speak_v do_v so_o follow_v the_o renounce_n of_o all_o our_o own_o work_n and_o the_o rejoice_v only_o in_o christ_n jesus_n as_o that_o they_o all_o issue_n from_o the_o first_o vantage_n that_o we_o have_v thereby_o namely_o from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n through_o faith_n whence_o i_o observe_v that_o only_o they_o that_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n through_o faith_n do_v feel_v in_o themselves_o by_o the_o powerful_a operation_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n whereby_o they_o die_v unto_o sin_n and_o live_v unto_o god_n in_o righteousness_n and_o true_a holiness_n and_o to_o this_o the_o apostle_n seem_v to_o give_v witness_n where_o he_o say_v that_o our_o heart_n be_v purify_v by_o faith_n 15.9_o act._n 15.9_o for_o it_o be_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v we_o be_v purify_v and_o purge_v from_o dead_a work_n to_o serve_v the_o live_a god_n but_o how_o be_v it_o it_o be_v by_o faith_n in_o christ_n jesus_n so_o that_o the_o apostle_n meaning_n be_v that_o only_o they_o that_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n in_o christ_n jesus_n be_v purge_v from_o dead_a work_n to_o serve_v the_o live_a god_n for_o if_o this_o purification_n be_v by_o faith_n then_o only_o they_o that_o have_v faith_n be_v thus_o purge_v so_o our_o saviour_n also_o say_v 15.4_o joh._n 15.4_o as_o the_o branch_n can_v bear_v fruit_n of_o itself_o except_o it_o abide_v in_o the_o vine_n no_o more_o can_v you_o except_v you_o abide_v in_o i_o whence_o it_o be_v most_o plain_a that_o they_o only_o that_o be_v down_o with_o heaviness_n but_o let_v we_o be_v cheerful_a in_o our_o god_n who_o can_v supply_v what_o want_v if_o he_o will_v and_o will_v if_o he_o see_v it_o good_a if_o we_o have_v plenty_n let_v we_o not_o abuse_v it_o to_o riotousness_n and_o wantonness_n but_o let_v we_o use_v it_o to_o god_n glory_n so_o shall_v our_o want_n be_v comfortable_a and_o our_o riches_n a_o blessing_n unto_o their_o want_n if_o he_o will_v and_o that_o he_o will_v if_o he_o see_v it_o good_a and_o therefore_o they_o droop_v not_o they_o murmur_v not_o but_o they_o depend_v upon_o he_o they_o comfort_v themselves_o in_o he_o which_o shall_v teach_v we_o not_o to_o look_v to_o man_n want_n or_o riches_n but_o how_o these_o work_n on_o their_o affection_n what_o effect_n follow_v these_o in_o they_o for_o poverty_n and_o riches_n plenty_n and_o want_n even_o both_o these_o be_v common_a to_o the_o wicked_a with_o the_o godly_a but_o they_o do_v not_o alike_o affect_v they_o both_o the_o wicked_a through_o want_n droop_v and_o murmur_n &_o fall_v to_o all_o unlawful_a shift_n to_o supply_v their_o want_n but_o the_o godly_a be_v cheerful_a in_o their_o god_n wait_v upon_o he_o depend_v upon_o he_o endure_v patient_o hold_v it_o enough_o that_o god_n can_v if_o he_o will_v and_o will_v if_o he_o see_v it_o good_a supply_v their_o want_n again_o through_o riches_n the_o wicked_a grow_v proud_a run_v after_o their_o lust_n and_o pleasure_n oppress_v their_o brethren_n and_o forget_v their_o god_n but_o the_o godly_a use_n their_o riches_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n the_o good_a of_o their_o brethren_n and_o their_o own_o honest_a and_o lawful_a use_n and_o comfort_n as_o therefore_o we_o bear_v or_o droop_v under_o our_o want_n we_o be_v poor_a or_o rich_a in_o god_n favour_n and_o again_o as_o we_o use_v or_o abuse_v our_o riches_n we_o be_v poor_a or_o rich_a in_o god_n favour_n and_o therefore_o this_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v at_o how_o whereby_o the_o apostle_n prove_v that_o he_o speak_v not_o because_o of_o want_n that_o the_o supply_n of_o his_o want_n by_o their_o help_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o rejoice_v as_o if_o before_o that_o supply_n come_v he_o have_v be_v cast_v down_o through_o heaviness_n but_o now_o that_o they_o have_v holpen_v he_o he_o rejoice_v and_o his_o reason_n stand_v thus_o i_o have_v learned_a to_o be_v content_a with_o my_o own_o estate_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v therefore_o it_o be_v not_o the_o supply_n of_o my_o want_n by_o your_o gift_n that_o cause_v my_o rejoice_v but_o wherein_o he_o know_v how_o to_o carry_v himself_o and_o therewith_o to_o be_v content_a i_o can_v be_v abase_v that_o be_v if_o be_v in_o poverty_n and_o want_n i_o be_v contemn_v and_o debase_v notwithstanding_o whatsoever_o excellent_a grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n i_o have_v i_o know_v how_o to_o carry_v it_o i_o can_v be_v content_a and_o not_o droop_v the_o head_n and_o i_o can_v abound_v that_o be_v if_o i_o abound_v in_o honour_n wealth_n or_o favour_n i_o know_v how_o to_o carry_v it_o i_o can_v be_v content_a and_o not_o be_v proud_a every_o where_o for_o time_n and_o place_n and_o in_o all_o thing_n belong_v to_o this_o life_n i_o be_o instruct_v and_o religious_o teach_v for_o so_o the_o word_n signify_v both_o to_o be_v full_a and_o to_o be_v hungry_a and_o to_o abound_v and_o to_o have_v want_n and_o still_o i_o can_v be_v content_a with_o which_o of_o these_o estate_n soever_o and_o neither_o grow_v insolent_a through_o my_o better_a nor_o be_v cast_v down_o with_o heaviness_n through_o my_o mean_a estate_n nor_o relinquish_v my_o duty_n in_o my_o call_n whatsoever_o be_v my_o state_n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n so_o that_o here_o we_o have_v a_o reason_n of_o his_o denial_n in_o the_o word_n immediate_o before_o and_o a_o confirmation_n of_o the_o reason_n by_o a_o enumeration_n of_o diverse_a state_n wherein_o he_o know_v how_o to_o carry_v himself_o and_o therewith_o to_o be_v content_a now_o let_v we_o see_v what_o instruction_n we_o may_v gather_v hence_o for_o our_o further_a use_n and_o benefit_n the_o
